Hi Bas,
I'm surprised you don't already have it, considering the (IMO) very reasonable cost!
NOWS SBE maintenance includes:
An unlimited number of Service Requests (incidents) on any/all component products.
Access to patches/upgrades
Training
Novell GroupWise Mobile Server (GMS) powered by Intellisync
Novell Data Synchronizer
Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack
You can purchase maintenance with two kinds of support: Standard and Priority. I highly recommend the Priority support as you never know when you will need it. There is very little difference between the cost of the two.
Check out the difference between Standard and Priority support here:
How does Novell support vary by SUSE Linux Enterprise subscription type?
I hope this helps. :-)

Novell's Alex Evans stated that they worked it out internally so that GW customers would have access to SLES 11. I don't know if they extended that option to the NOWS-SBE owners that have maintenance.
They did state that the SLES 10 and Windows platforms will be available but not until 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2011. It will be only 64-bit.

  • NOWS SBE based on SLES 9 include GW8, ZENworks

    Hi all,
I'm about buying the Open Workgroup Suite for about 115 with a 5 user license. I downloaded the corresponding evaluation-software on download.novell.com. Now I see that it is based on SLES 9.
How can I now set up Groupwise 8 and ZENworks? On the twitter-feed it says, that GW8 and ZENworks are available for all OWS SBE customers. The update finishes, but there's nothing about GW8 or ZENworks at all. And with the two .sbu-files from download.novell.com I can't get this two things too.
Are GW8 and ZENworks even included in the NOWS based on SLES 9?

These instructions will show you where you can get the current versions of NOWS SBE 2.5.
    http://forums.novell.com/novell-prod....html#poststop
Insert the DVD and follow the scripted install. You will be presented with a web interface (Simba). That interface shows the updates and optional software.
NOWS SBE 2.5 is based on SLES10/SP2 and OES2/SP1. After installing it and registering it, you will be presented with updates. One of those updates will allow you to upgrade to SLES10/sp3 and OES2/SP2. You may need a valid maintenance agreement to get the updates.
The link I provided will show what components are included.

  • Upgrade to NOWS SBE from Novell SBS 6.6 - part 1

    We bought an upgrade from Novell Small Business Suite 6.6 (NW6.5 + GW7 + 20 users) to NOWS SBE (OES11 + GW2012 + 15users, 15 users are currently enough).
The technical documentation I found that because of the incompatibility of different versions of OES and GW will need to upgrade procedure:
    1. in-place upgrade to NW6.5 + GW8
    2. migrate to OES11 + GW8
    3. in-place upgrade to OES11 + GW2012
The upgrade procedure is bound queries on activation and license.
Will be server operational after step 1 if we have not a license to GW8?
Will be server operational after step 2 if we have not a license to GW8?
I ask because I do not know how long the migration will take
whether it will be necessary to use the server after step 1 or 2
And I'm not at all clear dependence server functionality on licenses,
activation, unlock, activation the credential or other,,, during the upgrade and migration.
I did not understand how many different license files, activation, unlock or something further, it is necessary for the correct running NOWS SBE(OES11+GW2012) with 15 users (or NW6.5+GW8 or OES11+ GW8)?
Im not found any document that would explain this.
Thank you in advance for any help, where the search for such information

bit late in the day - you've probably done this already !
I've done several upgrades (22 to be precise) from NW6.5 with GW7 in one
    step
Clone / Mirror Netware Server - I use RAID1 so simply removing one hard disk
& put away (just incase !!)
    Install OES11 into Tree
If using GWDMS - move the storage areas under the PO if you have external
    storage areas
[external storage area still possible but you can run into problems
    check GW databases
copy GW data over using DBcopy (this can be done in advance)
I've found EXT3 works well & less complications *** watch out for the NSS
    experts shoot this down ***
as users don't need access to GW data directly {remember the site I work
with are small 10 users to 80 users - typicaly 40-50users)
Make changes GW paths in consoleone
    Run DBcopy again
Shutdown Netware Server & OES11 Server
Start OES11 & make it the MASTER
    install consoleone and groupwise
(on many installs I have had to manually copy the .DC files for the db's to
update correctly - reported to NTS)
    no major problems

  • Can't add a new NOWS SBE 2.5 server to an existing eDir

    Hi!
I have problem to add a new NOWS SBE 2.5 server to an existing tree.
I'm using the WEB administration interface > add-remove > eDirectory install.
At the end the message is:
"There was a problem with the component installation.
NDS Configuration failed. Please re-install and verify all IP Addresses, Server Contexts and Passwords. If the install involved a remote tree, also verify time synchronization between the servers."
    Please help
    TIA

    1. How it can influence the other components installations?
    2. Shall I continue and install the other components using the WEB administation like installing the iManager?
    3. I'm trying to install NCP. It was supposed to be installed automatically when installing eDir.

    Hi Nanu,
I'm glad you got it working. This is what you have to remember about NOWS SBE...
The install scripts install components in a certain way and add the ability to manage them from the Simba web interface. When the components don't install correctly and you open an SR, my experience has been that the Engineer tries to get the product installed and working rather than trying to fix the problem that caused the install to fail.
When you say that he did a manual install, that can mean several things:
If he manually ran the NOWS SBE install script it should be installed the way NOWS SBE expects it to be.
If he installed the component the way he would normally do on an OES system, then the NOWS SBE specific components/configuration are likely missing.
If option 2 was used, you may have issues trying to manage the component from the Simba GUI and may experience other issues as you try to install other components. I expect it will also affect the installation of patches. I now choose to manually install all components and not use the Simba GUI just to avoid these issues. If the Simba web interface doesn't show eDir as installed, it is likely you won't be able to install other components that depend on it.
If you suspect the Engineer fixed eDir but broke NOES SBE, I would reopen the SR or open a new one and let Novell correct the problem. Another option might be to begin a new installation and manually install all the components.

  • Problems installing Groupwise 8 on NOWS SBE

I have downloaded the Groupwise 8 .sbu file from Novell (NOWS-SBE-groupwise8.sbu) and then uploaded the package file via NOWS SBE Administration.
When I click Add / Remove - Install for GroupWise 8 i get a black transparent screen with 'undefined' written in the top left.
I've left this overnight, thinking it maybe downloading files etc, but nothing happens.
Does anybody have any pointers on this?

    Hi tombott,
You may have other issues with your system that prevent GroupWise from installing.
Make sure your system is properly registered with NCC and that you are able to get your online updates before trying to install GroupWise.
I would install all items one at a time and reboot the server after each component is installed.

  • TC Software Now in Maintenance Mode

FYI, I noticed the below statement at the bottom of the MX800 Dual announcement, appears the TC software for C/EX/older MX series is now in maintenance mode, and only be updated with security and bug fixes which means the last major release of TC software is most likely TC7.  It also means that the endpoints noted in the statement will have a new series of software with an abbreviation of "CE" starting with version 8 instead of continuing to use TC as it currently is now.  In that announcement there is some information regarding the Collaboration Endpoint Software and it's features, also including full Proximity support.
*Products supporting the Collaboration Endpoint Software 8.0 platform include the SX10, SX20, SX80, MX200 G2, MX300 G2, MX700, MX800 Single and MX800 Dual. The TC platform will now be on maintenance mode for security and bug fixes only.

Not surprising considering all of the C-series are now EOS/EOL, anyways, what really caught my attention was this one: "Intelligent Proximity will also enable wireless content sharing from Macs and PCs" - which is absolutely brilliant - or, it would be if they got rid of, or somehow restricted call control access. Having said that, they might have dealt with that as well in CE8.

  • NOWS SBE Facebook - is this product going stale?

    Hi,
Posted a comment on Novells General Facebook page, 'the last update for NOWSBE on their facebook page wasd in 2009 - (2 years ago almost)', the re[ly was 'Thanks, well look into it...' - so what happening? 2.5 is out, and there are a few issues - is there going to be a streamlined, updated version coming soon? Is there going to be competition for 'ClearOS'? What is the process to get the mesage through to devs about what is required for small business customers? wouldn't Facebook be a good way to keep the channels of communication open? I'd be very interested to get some response, feeling a little like SBE is not a priority!

    Hi Robert,
This forum is the main source of information for NOWS SBE. It is available to anyone who has something to contribute. When previous versions of NOWS SBE became available, users provided feedback in this forum almost immediately.
I looked for the Facebook page you mentioned and finally found it. There are only two posts there, both from 2009. That should tell you how often people turn to Facebook for their NOWS SBE information.
Novell doesn't comment on products that have not yet been announced so there is no way to know when or if a new version is forthcoming. If you look at when previous versions of NOWS SBE were released, and if Novell continues to follow that timetable, we should be hearing something soon.
If you have comments or feedback you would like to convey to the developers and/or product manager, there are a few options:
Attend BrainShare 2011 / Salt Lake City where you may have the opportunity to speak directly with Novell developers.
    Submit an enhancement request: http://support.novell.com/enhancement
Start a discussion in this forum. While Novell doesn't officially monitor the forums, developers have been known to drop by from time to time.

If you are new to NOWS SBE, a good place to start is here:
NOWS Small Business Edition 2.5 Documentation
If you are at the console and want to logon to the linux server, use Userid=root, Password=novell
"root" is the all-powerful Linux user that can do everything, so be careful. Until you change it, the default password is "novell"
If this is the first time you are interacting with your new server, then follow the instructions on the very nice looking screen saver. Logon from a browser on another workstation attached to the network and finish the installation. The Userid=sbsadmin, the password is whatever you assigned during the first part of he install.

  • Sles dns and dhcp; OR NOWS SBE dns and dhcp

Ok, I'm finally to the state of setting up dns and dhcp. From what I read the NOWS way is to set it up in the sbsadmin web interface. That seems to use different backend programs than the sles dns and dhcp programs. For instance I think I read that the NOWS uses dhcpd, whereas in yast it says it uses dhcp-server.
SHOULD I use the NOWS way, or the SLES way for dns and dhcp? Looks like the sles way is more easily configured and managed, but I don't know if it will not be functional for my NOWS users.

NOWS SBE doesn't provide a capability to manage DNS/DHCP other than by editing the config files. I would be much more comfortable doing what you are doing however you have to be careful. NOWS SBE sometimes installs modified OES components (or used to) so one never knows what to expect when deviating from a standard NOWS SBE install.

  • NOWS or NOWS-SBE

Before starting any flame wars, most of this is just me asking dumb
    questions:
Customer currently has SBS and they were licensed and got the upgrade
protection before the cutoff date (what, like a little over a year or so
    ago?)
    They have TWO servers, however.
    One server does the file/print
    Other runs GroupWise and BMEE
Would they like to use ZEN? Yes. But do they now? No.
BMEE isn't really going to be missed (we'll be replacing it with an
appliance with a more full featured firewall, VPN, Anti-spam, AV, etc.)
GroupWise well, I can conver that over to SLES10 on Ext3. But I need it
to be on a physically separate box (I hate having everything on ONE
    server).
The file/print server, however, needs to be able to use OES2.
    Why you ask?
Because they don't want to use nasty Linux/Unix file management (icky
    pooh).
What is run on the current box?
    1) WebAccess for GroupWise (meaning the Apache server is on this box,
but all the other code is on the other server)
    2) NetStorage
    3) iPrint
    4) DHCP (probably be moved over to the appliance)
    5) NSS
Would it be nice to be able to use DLU in ZEN and lock down the Windows
    desktops? Yes.
Given that, which do I have them upgrade to, as it's my understanding
    they can do either one.
But it must be OES on SLES10 (so OES2). That way I can do an "in-place
upgrade". Yes, I know, not really an in-place, but all you have to do
is have free drive space, so you can install SLES10 and then you can get
the other stuff up and running and just mount the existing NSS volume
that was on NetWare on OES2 rather than have to suffer the pain of the
Migration utility. (I believe it still resets the timestamps so you
can't see how old your data is, and of course, it takes considerably
longer than mounting an already existing volume).
    Any ideas/suggestions?

I've not found problems running NW 6.5 and backup software -- then
again, I tend to not 'autodeploy' Service Packs -- and check to make
sure that whatever backup software I use works with a specific service
    pack.
I note other reports -- for me, I'm still running 6.5 SP5 plus the post
SP5 updates and either BE 9.1 or 9.2 with its updates.

  • OES2 and NOWS SBE

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any differences between the Novell Remote Manager on OES2 and Novell Workgroup Suite Small Business Edition (SBE)? I am used to working with NRM on OES2 however a customer reported that the NRM on the SBE is not showing some of the things that I am normally used to seeing. I have not really worked with this product and I need to know what if any differences between the two product versions. Thank you,
