NPD Workflow Cancel Locks IE

This is a really strange one 2 different users on two different PCs are having issue with in 6.1.0.1, patched to 32. Thought Id post here first before I open SR.
They open an NPD activity ususally from an email notification they have received. They click the workflow button for the activity, and the workflow popup appears.
Sometimes they realize they are not ready to workflow it, so they hit the Cancel button. The popup disappears, but then the activity and the browser is completely locked up.
No scroll bars, no buttons work. They have to close the browser and start over.
Now here is the weird part. I cant reproduce this on my Win 7, IE 8 laptop. Had a team member also try on his Win7, IE 8 machine. Works fine.
These 2 users are Win XP, IE7. So we found another third Win XP with IE 7, and cant reproduce there either.
So we compared all IE7 settings between this machine and the users, but everything matches.
Anyone have an idea?
And we cleared local IE caches too.

ok we figured out what was going on here. If your editing an NPD activity and while in edit mode you click workflow, and then decide to cancel the wf popup using the Cancel button, the IE screen never refreshes. The scroll bars never return. To the user it looks like IE "locks up".
Well I discovered if you simply click over to another tab and then back to the tab your were on it does the refresh and the scroll bars come back.
We opened an SR because this is not acceptable behavior for a user that edits Routing Requirements all the time.

Workflow canceled automatically. I have three users KMSLS,KMSCO,KMSQA who triggers the list workflow at different levels.
KMSLS has full control
KMSCO and KMSQA has contribute permission.
KMSLS is able to initiate the workflow and emails are getting sent when a new item is created in the list.
but I am Workflow gets canceled automatically by user KMSCO and KMSQA. I even tried to give full control to these user but getting same error as below. Please help me...

Hi Vikas,
Please check and make sure your User Profile service and User Profile Synchronization service are running, then start a full user profile sync to make sure your users are in user profile service, then check if the workflow is still auto canceled for those
two users with contribute permission.

Workflow process locked by admin

Hi
I was using WLI BPM and suddenly the worklist application got hung. I killed the
server and brought it up and the studio again. Now when I try to open the workflow
in the studio, I get the message that 'The workflow is locked by admin'. I want
to unlock the workflow. Are there any tables that I can access and update? How
can I do this? I deleted all the running instances. Still it gives the same message.
Any help would be truly appreciated.

We have not restarted the planning services, but checked in few tables namely "HSP_PLANNING_UNIT_LOGS"
which shows the current owners ids set to 50001 which I believe is admin for all the possible combinations for the scenario and versions...
It is a production application, we can get the schema backup which will have the original states and the owner Ids but how can we populate the
existing tables to get the states back in the current application, rather than restoring all in a separate application...

Problem: workflows cancel each other

Hi all,
I'm facing a strange problem right now, probably some fundamental misunderstanding about how workflows work. :-(
My hr-system exports data to a database-resource with a change-flag and I run active sync to detect changes. This is the source for attributes like firstname, lastname, etc.
Works as expected.
However, I provision to an Active Directory, which generates attributes like email-address, so this Active Directory is my source for some specific attributes like the preferred email-address. I use active sync, which works as expected.
Sounds good? Hmmm, not really.
Currently, I get updates from hr, process them through active sync and provision data to active directory which in turn creates an active sync event for the active directory resource, even before processing of the original hr-update is completed. That process is suspended for one minute (workitem with timeout) for replication to take place and in that minute the active directory update is detected....
When all is said an done, both update-workflows are cancelled and do not complete as expected. The second one (active directory-triggered) complains about a locked user account, which is perfectly ok. But I expected that process to wait for the lock to expire? And why is the hr-based workflow never resumed properly and disappers?
Currently I just have no idea what's going on and how to synchronize those workflows in a way that makes both of them complete (and succeed).
Any ideas anybody?

this is precisely what I expected, but not what I see. :-(
So, let's say there are resources "HR" and "AD", then according to my naming conventions I create users "ASuserHR" and "ASuserAD" and forms "myASformHR" and "myASformAD". Further I had to create special workflows "myWFupdateHR" and "myWFupdateAD".
Now, there is a change in "HR" for user "testuser" and ASuserHR processes this changes, starts the workflow "myWFupdateHR" which performs enableUser on resource "AD" and then suspends by creating a workitem for "Configurator" with a timeout of one minute to wait for replication. I can see this happening in the audit-log and consider assigning the workitem to ASuserHR in the future.
Then "AD" triggers and user "ASuserAD" tries to access "testuser", which is locked, so ASuserAD fails. I can see this happening in the audit-log.
In my testlab usually everything continues as expected, but in production frequently ASuserHR just fails to complete the workflow. I've only been able to watch such a behaviour once in my testlab (yesterday late, after my original posting) and discovered a server-task owned by ASuserHR which said "failed with errors" and "could not access testuser, which is locked by ASuserAD".
So it looks like the user is locked by ASuserHR first but somehow it can happen (sometimes) that ASuserAD creates a conflict. I'll try to reproduce the situation again (perhaps I can find the reason it only happens sometimes), but I'm rather baffled.
Regarding my environment: production is sun idm 8.0p11 and test ist oracle waveset 8.1.1p3

Workflow Canceled Error in Sharepoint 2013

A new SP 2013 installation, one server with SP, WF, etc and the other is simply SQL Server. Went through the installation steps for Workflow including the powershell bits. In designer, I am able to create a simple workflow and select 2013 as the type.
When the workflow is run, is shows internal status is canceled and has the following error text below. Note that I am running the workflow as a basic user, not as a system account.

I've found few instances of this via various searches, most discuss not running the workflow as a system account, which is not the case here. The other mentions User Profile Service. I have no desire to have My Sites setup and whenever I start looking at
initiation User Profile Service it begins by creating a MySite web app and site collection to associate the UPS to. Is this all required to get Workflow going?

The WF is designed in SPD2013 and it has below steps..
1. Send email to sharepoint group member.
2. Start WF task with same group.
3. Add item to another list based on WF Outcome variable value.
4. End WF.
I have single server stand alone setup, everything on one server. Setting done for SMTP server on Central Admin out going mail and I am receiving the mail.
User ID used to to login to server is a member of Farm admin and also has Site Collection Admin rights. The WorkFlow service is running using different service account.
Any direction to get the exact error would be great help! Many thanks in advance.

Workflow Cancelled - How to debug the issue

Friends,
We have implemented deployed servers in ep4 successfully in the past. Recently, we upgraded our system to ep5 sp4. Since then we have issues on workflow WS17900036 ( Accoutning ) and WS17900039 ( maintenance ).
Without giving you details of the business process and the flow, I ask you how can I anaylze why the workflow is cancelled. Can you provide some methods, function module specially or in general that I can debug to see the issue?
Any insight or a general guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Workflow Cancellation Notifications - Prevent without changing global sett

I am wondering if anyone has been able to prevent cancellation notifications from being sent to users for a specific workflow. There is a global profile setting but I can't use that as other workflows require the cancellation notification. I was thinking I could use the wfmail template #WFM_CANCELED and hard code a performer to a bogus email address but that hasn't worked. Just thought I check with others if they have come across this requirement and implemented a solution.

Workflow cancel notification

I have created a workflow with OR split. One branch publishes the page whereas other branch cancels the publish action. Irrespective of which branch I select, workflow is completed. So even if next step picked is 'cancel publish', its the publish action that is cancelled and not the workflow.
In the email notification to the initiator, email received is 'Workflow completed' which is technically correct though page publish is cancelled. How can I communicate to the workflow initiator that though the workflow is completed, the page publish step picked is 'cancel publish'.
Also, how can I customize the notification so that the comments inserted in the last action is also written in the email notification?

Workflow Cancellation By External Event (10.1.3.x)

Hi All,
By any means, BPEL process can be ternminated by external event. The requirements is that, i want to terminate the process by an external event using Process Id. By saying that, the external process is not the parent process of process to be killed.
Also, can someone point me to link, which talks about child BPEL process bterminated before the parent BPEL process got terminated.

In the technology preview versions we only tested deployment to the embedded OC4J that comes with JDeveloper TP4.
You can start it in a stand alone mode and deploy to it.
Note that this is not production quality server as far as we are concerned.

Cancel Save Workflow option missing in R17 env

Has anyone noticed the cancel save option in WF is missing in my R17 env.
Can anyone confirm if they have it in any of their R17 env ?

We were a little surprised by this as well. We had built quite a few CO validations with it and at this time will probably rollback the validations until certification is complete.

ODM11gR2 - Workflow hanging

I'm using the Explore Data node. I'm changing the attribute in the Group By and also changing the size of the histograms.
But when I click on the run arrow button at the top or right click and run,
I get a window appearing say 'Saving Workflow Document'. This remain open for 10+ minutes. I cannot cancel it, close it or even close SQL Developer
This typically happens after the 3rd change and run
I have to use the task manager to close the application. When I go back into SQL Dev and open the work flow it tells me that the workflow is locked and can only be opened in read-only.
When I reboot my laptop I can open the workflow but I keep getting the same error as above
Any ideas what might be causing this

I checked the version numbers following Marks last reply....and the data miner version was still the previous version and not 11.2.0.2.04.40 ......so that explains why things werent happening!
Still not sure why the first install had not worked ok as it did finish with "Upgraded extensions -> 11.2.02.04.40"
Anyway, knowing it was still the old version I've just re-run everything this morning. The database was also re-started last night.
The other thing I've done this time was to run "sqldeveloper.exe" explicitly with "run as administrator" when i started it. My windows 7 account is an administrator account so not sure whether this made a difference but I have had a few problems before with windows not always running things with the right priviliges before.
Anyway, this time everything has worked. The install same as before, but on opening the repository I get the option to upgrade it and thats just finished fine.
The versions are now all showing the right ones as well.
I'm suspecting that it may have been the windows admin rights rather than than the database bounce that was the difference...although have not had that problem with previous sqldeveloper upgrades. Or maybe it was something else...either way, the moral of the story to me is a reminder to always checks the versions after an upgrade :-)

Problem while starting on a workflow

Hi,
Base on the description, you fail to start workflow thought you have full control on all sites .
I suggest you to add you to the site with edit permissions. This ended up being a permission for the user initiating the workflow though they had permissions to edit the entire site adding them to the site with
edit permissions (directly and not through an AD group) fixed the problem.
I also suggest you to create User Profile Service Application and then you need to create Sync connection and run full sync. All SharePoint 2013 workflows must be started from real users, not system
account.

Sharepoint 2013 designer workflow custom sendemail activity

Does anybody know sharepoint 2013 designer workflow custom sendemail activity. Current OOB sendemail action from designer workflow cancels the entire workflow when sendemail fails.

What error did you meet when you used the OOB ‘Send Email’ action?
I suggest you fix the error rather than creating a new workflow ‘Send Email’ activity.
Of course, you can also customize a workflow activity to send email, there are two acticles about creating a custom workflow activity for your reference:
