NPS Authentication Fails (Reason 16) After Migration to 2012 R2 from 2008 R2

I'm using NPS for wired dot1x authentication and I just migrated my NPS server from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2.  When I point the network switch to start using the new 2012 R2 NPS as the RADIUS server, I get authentication failures - event 6273, reason code
16.  When I switch it back to the 2008 R2 server, it works fine.  The two servers are configured EXACTLY the same as far as I can tell - same RADIUS client config, same connection request policies, same network policies - and it should be since I
used the MS prescribed migration process.  The only thing that differs is the server's certificate name used in the PEAP setup screen.
I'm using computer authentication only, so everything is based on computer accounts and I've selected to NOT validate server credentials on the group policy.
I've verified the shared secrets multiple times.  Both servers are domain controllers.
Here is an example of the errors logged on the 2012 R2 server.

Hi,
Have you added the NPS server to the RAS and IAS Servers
security group in AD DS?
The NPS server needs permission to read the dial-in properties of user accounts during the authorization process.
Try to add a loal user on the NPS server, then test with the local user. If it works, it means that there is something wrong between NPS and DC.
If the issue persists, it means that the configuration between NPS and NAS is wrong.

  • Can't login to server after upgrading to 2012 R2 from 2008 R2.

I upgraded my Server 2008 R2 server to Server 2012 R2 standard.  I am at the login screen.  I press control + alt + del and select the Administrator account (as usual).  I enter my password and press enter.  The screen turn black
and flickers, and then returns to the control + alt +delete screen.  No matter how many times I attempt to login, it doesn't work.  If I reboot the server, it rolls back to 2008 R2.
What can I do to get past this issue?

    Hi Smidley,
In addition, I also recommend you can follow this article to perform the upgrade and feedback.
Note: you need to evaluate if software installed on your Windows Server 2008 R2 is compatible and supported on Windows Server 2012/2012R2. When you find any incompaticle software you need to upgrade or uninstall.

  • Mail Clean Install Help: Mail Won't Work After Migrating to 10.6 from 10.4

I cannot get Mail to open after migrating from 10.4 into 10.6. Mail tries to import my 10.4 folders and messages and then quits unexpectedly. I want to do a clean Mail install to see if I can resolve the problem, but don't know how to do so.
    All advice is greatly appreciated.
    -Brian

Mail, the application, should not cannot contain any message data assets. The Mail application must sit in the Applications folder, and be usable to every User Account on the Mac, and not just yours (understand you might be the only user, but making a point).
Mail, the folder of data for just your emails, should properly be at Home/Library/Mail.
Let me ask again -- in the Applications folder is there an Icon for Mail, and is it the Icon of a postage stamp, or is it perhaps the Icon of a folder?
However, let me note, that now that I have booted back into Snow Leopard, and used Get Info on the Mail Icon in the Applications folder, it is reported to be 77.5 MB! Looking at it from other boot volume (Leopard) does not see all the elements of its "package" apparently. My apologies.
Now it is time for a different test -- Create a New User Account, and as that New User launch Mail and try setting up one new email account - if POP select to leave messages on the server. See the following if not familiar with adding a new user account:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
The reason for doing this is to test the Mail app itself, and not to permanently switch to a new user account. Tell me if the behavior continues in that New User Account with Mail?

  • Re-locating metadata after migration to Aperture 3 from ACDSee photo manager

    Hi all,
Do you have experience from migrating a photo library from ACDSee Photo Manager 2009 (PC-software) to Aperture 3 with relevant metadata following each jpeg picture? Specifically, how to re-locate the metadata entered to ACDSee in Aperture 3 after importing the pictures to Aperture library?
ACDSee uses XMP to embed database information in each file (MGIF, JPG, DNG, PNG, and TIF file formats). Thus the database information (e.g. categories, keywords, descripitons etc) can be embedded inside the file ...  and they should be usable when using other photo libraries... but apparently not. ACDSee Photomanager apparently does not copy the database information to IPTC fields but uses some other place in the files to store it. As a result I cannot re-locate the metadata once I've imported the pictures to Aperture.
Any advises on how to use Aperture to find the "lost" metadata is appreciated.
    regards

I've faced the same problem too, and am making a little progress. The most important metadata for me is the rating (I'm still working on keywords etc) and I've managed to port that to Aperture by embedding it in an unused IPTC field in ACDSee and then searching for that field in Aperture, setting the rating as I go.
Would love to hear some suggestions for setting the keywords, especially ones that don't cause Aperture to crash.

  • How do I migrate a FAX server from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2

Hi- I have two DCs (one 2008 R2, one 2012 R2) I'm going to build a new DC with 2012 R2 and remove the 2008 R2. This server is hosting FAX services. How do I move it to the new server? Can only find articles talking about SBS and using a migration wizard...

  • VWLC 802.1x NPS authentication Fails

    Hi Guys,
Hopefully someone can help me with the following problem i'm facing...
I've a vWLC running 7.3 deployed in our HQ site.
At the HQ we have a W2k8 R2 NPS deployed at works fine for VPN, Router and Switch Authentication
In a few remote branch offices which are connected to the HQ over DMVPN we have a couple of 3500's running in flexconnect mode with local switching.
These AP's register just fine through the VPN link back to the vWLC.
We deployed a few SSID's that are bound to AP groups.
All SSID's that use WPA2 with PSK work fine
All SSID's that use WPA2 with 802.1x Fail
The Security Settings for the failing SSID's are:
    WPA2 Policy
    WPA2 Encryption AES
    Key Man 802.1x
AAA Server is pointing to the right NPS for Auth and Accounting
    Radius overwrite IF is disabled
The settings of the NPS are:
    Conditions:
    Win Group: DOMAIN\Groupxx
NAS Port Type: Wireless - IEEE 802.11
    Settings:
    EAP Conf: Configured
    Access Perm: Granted
    EAP Method: MS PEAP
    Auth Method: EAP
    NAP Enforcement: Allow full access
    Update non complient: True
    Service Type: Login
When a laptop (Mac os 10.8) tries to connect to a 802.1x SSID It Prompts for a username and passwd.
Using DOMAIN\user + passwd the client tries to authenticate for a couple of times and fails
On the vWLC i can see trap:
AAA Authentication Failure for UserName:user  User Type: WLAN USER
At the NPS i can see:

  • Windows OS authentication fails ORA-1017 after renaming AD user

When a user is renamed in Active Directory, they can no longer connect to the Oracle DB thru OS authentication. There is no OID/DIP integration.

Why the Database is still looking for old AD user name?
Does Oracle cache information about OS authenticated users?

    Hi,
Have you added the NPS server to the RAS and IAS Servers
    security group in AD DS?
The NPS server needs permission to read the dial-in properties of user accounts during the authorization process.
Try to add a loal user on the NPS server, then test with the local user. If it works, it means that there is something wrong between NPS and DC.
If the issue persists, it means that the configuration between NPS and NAS is wrong.

  • ITunes fails to load after migrating personal info.

iTunes fails to to load on my out of the box 2.8 single quad MacPro. here's one of the error messages.

it didn't like the other 2 plugins either. i removed the plugins - still would't load. i download a fresh version, installed, same problems.
my old home folder info was migrated from my old G4 Quicksilver running 10.3. i'm thinking compatibility issues with old home folder data and the newer operating system & iTunes. i have nearly 20k music files all organized into playlists that i don't want to reconstruct, so i'd like to at least save my old playlist if possible. my original iTunes folder is backed up on an external drive as is my entire old hard drive.

I just got back from AppleCare, and it was because iTunes Store was down.
    It's gone back to normal.

  • Error "The Connection Failed" in Time Machine, Migration Assistant and Restore From DVD

I am receiving this error when trying to connect to my Time Machine Backup in my Time capsule. I input the proper password to access my Time Capsule and It returns me to the screen with the caption "The connection failed" under the Time Capsule name in the "Select your Disk" screen. What would cause this error. I am connecting via WIFI (AirPort) and have full signal. I am using Mac OSX 10.6.8
I recently had my 1TB hard drive replaced and I am attempting to restore using Time Machine, migration assistant or from the startup dvd (tried multiple ways, no success). The initial setup of mac OSX 10.6 would not let me connect or other attempts after erasing hard drive and reinstalling OSX from disk.
Worked on it all weekend and don't have enough beer to drown the frustration, any help is appreciated.

You are correct TM is not at all easy to do a full restore.
To answer your question: Yes TM disk does show up in finder.
After my initial startup setup I was able to start TM and access all my previous backups. I migrated some files and was able grab the data from finder. Not satisfied with that I tried to do a restore to that previous date, to no success. I then erased the HD and reinstalled OSx and tried again from the setup screen. That didn't work, sulked over some beers. I then tired with Migration assistant...same result (more beer).
In starting TM after trying MA, only one backup was showing in the Star screen (today). None of my previous backups were showing. Since exiting TM it has been "Making Backup Disk Available" ( xGB of 6.29GB). Considering the size, I can only assume that these are my previous backups.
I have reviewed Pondini's posts, FAQs, and tutorials. I am a little scared to try and locate the drives through Terminal as in Pondini's TS #6 guide. If I can get my previous backups to show up, I will be happy with dragging files from Finder to restore my data and slowly work at restoring my settings/applications.

  • Mail 6.2 will no longer open on my macbook pro after migrating my old computer from a time machine back up

    Hi,
I recently got a new 13" macbook pro to replace my old macbook.
I did a migration assistant transfer from a time machine back up of my old macbooks data on to my macbook however Mail 6.2 will no lonfer work for me.
It worked fine before the transfer and no it opens ok but if i click 'new viewer window' it unexpectedly quits
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Eek, sorry for the multiple posting, I keep trying new things and needing to report back. SO, in those accounts that I thought I'd "fixed," I tried going back in and changing the settings back to the way I like them, i.e. leaving the messages on the server for a week (because sometimes I like to see messags on my iphone too) and as soon as I did that, it started downloading old messages before, i.e. back to the same problem.
Meaning, there's no workaround for the account I share with my business partner, because the only way I've "fixed" it on my personal accounts is to have mail removed from the server immediately, which is not possible on the accounts I share. (And is kind of a bummer for my personal accounts, too, given that I like to see mail on my iphone too).
Sorry for info overload, just trying to be helpful and cover all the bases. :-)

  • Migrating SSRS custom security from 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012

web.config file to below line we are getting "500 Internal server error". Tried everything, no luck... can someone please assist here whether we need to rewrite entire custom security code and then migrate it to SSRS 2012 custom

  • Crystal 2011 Failed to load database information error when upgrading from 2008.

I'm unable to get past this error.   Error in File ~tmp34887ec5d7e6780.rpt: Failed to load database information.
Configured Windows 2008 64 bit Server
Installed Crystal Report Server 2011 - BI Enterprise 14.0.0
    Oracle 11g 64 bit version
I can test the connection with success.  I can also run the tnsping command without issues.
I pubished several working reports from Crystal 2008 to the new server with Crystal 2011.    Every time I run a report, I end up with the generic connection error: Error in File ~tmp34887ec5d7e6780.rpt: Failed to load database information.
I saw a post that suggested installing the 32 bit Oracle Client first, and then the 64 bit client, but there was no indication that this would fix the error.  Does anyone know if that is infact the solution, or are there other underlaying issues?
    Thanks,
    Sue

    Hi Sue,
Make sure you have 32 Bit version Oracle Client installed on your server as CR2011 is a 32 bit application and CR2011 Processing Server is also 32 bit.
Check for the required Environment variables:
Navigate to Start -> Control Panel -> System.
Navigate to Advance system settings -> Environmental Variables.
Under the user's variable check the environmental variable as given below if any difference make the changes:
ORACLE_HOME=<64-bit version of the Oracle client>
    ORACLE_HOME32=<32-bit version>
    PATH=<64-bit version>
    PATH32=<32-bit version>
    BOE_USE_32BIT_ENV_FOR=ORACLE_HOME,PATH
    OR
Install Oracle client as ‘Runtime’ install, then there is no need to set the Environment variables.
If the Oracle client is installed prior to Business Objects then just restart the BO servers to make it working.
I am assuming that you are recieving the error from BI launchpad so this post should have been on

    Hi,FireLite,
    What kind of the migration?
If it was cross forest or involved PST files then rules rarely come across correctly and should be recreated.
If it was simply install Exchange 2010 and use move mailbox, then rules should have moved with the mailbox. And please provide more information like below:
1)Does this rule problem happen to all moved mailboxes or just part of them?
2)Would you please verify that you have successfully moved these problem mailbox?
3)Can you manage the rule in outlook for them?Have you tried to create a new rule to see if it works for these mailbox in OWA or Outlook?
Please try to move the mailbox back to Exchange 2007,then move it to another mailstore, after that migrate it again to Exchange 2010 to see if it works.
And here are some resolved cases with similar error for your reference.
