NSM 3.1 Agent Heartbeat

Hello,
i'm testing a new install of NSM 3.1 on a new Windows 2008 R2 installation to see if we can migrate from 3.0.3 to 3.1
But as soon as i Authorize the (local) agent i get a "Warning: A heartbeat has not been received for more then 5 minutes."
i have put login on the agent en engine to debug but the only usefull info is from the agent log:
Successfully performed a heartbeat communication
Received a "ACK" HB response
Received an "Authorized" HB response, nStatus = 0.
there is noting in the engine log.
Hope you can help me,
Niels van de Haar

Niels,
This is a cosmetic UI issue we recently discovered in NSM 3.1 (and in
Novell File Reporter 2.0.0 as well.) The Agent is actually heartbeating
just fine and will work without issue. However, when the Engine and
Agent are in timezones between UTC+1 and UTC+14, the UI incorrectly
calculates the time between heartbeats and displays this error.
A fix for this problem has already been implemented for forthcoming
releases of Storage Manager and File Reporter. Our apologies for the
confusion it creates!

    Agent is Running and Ready
OMS_HOME/sysman/log 의 secure.log 를 확인해 보면 OMS is "secure locked" 라는 에러가 보입니다.
The OMS is "secure locked", then the agent also needs to be secure.
    [ 사전 check 사항 ]
OMS(즉, Repository node) 에게 정보를 upload하지 않았기 때문입니다.
    emctl upload agent
    Solution Description
    1. On oms server: (Grid Control
    <OMS_HOME>/bin/emctl status oms -secure
    mesdev02:/u01/app/oracle$$OMS_HOME/bin/emctl status oms -secure

Checking the security status of the OMS at location set in /u01/app/oracle/OracleHomes/oms10g/sysman/config/emoms.properties... Done.
OMS is secure on HTTPS Port 1159
    <AGENT_HOME>/bin/emctl stop agent
    [mesdev01:/oracle/app/oracle/product/agent10g/bin]./emctl stop agent
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3 Grid Control 10.2.0.3.0.
Copyright (c) 1996, 2007 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    Stopping agent ... stopped.
    3. Verify no residue emagent processes running:
이와 같은 명령으로 남아 있는 emagent process가 있는지 확인합니다.
    ps -ef|grep emagent
    [mesdev01:/oracle/app/oracle/product/agent10g/bin]ps -ef|grep emagent
    oracle 4353 3125 0 16:19:34 pts/tb 0:00 grep emagent
    4. If running secure please resecure agent on :
    <AGENT_HOME>/bin/emctl secure agent
    --> 'Specify Security Options' 단계에서
    --> Management Service Security 항목에서
--> OMS와 함께 Secure Communication을 하고자 하는 agent에 password 설정을 하는데,
--> Require Secure Communication for all agents 를 check 표시하였다면
(기본적으로 Require Secure Communication for all agents는 enable되어야 함).
    [mesdev01:/oracle/app/oracle/product/agent10g/bin]./emctl secure agent

    EMD_URL set in /oracle/app/oracle/product/agent10g/sysman/config/emd.properties

When you restart the engine all the agents on linux servers lose their heartbeat connections. is there and easier way to restart the heartbeat connection the using nsmagent-config on each agent server?

    Agent is Running and Ready
I installed another agent on other server and don't have any problems.
There are no any iptables etc.
I googled for problem, found some tips regarding "secure agent" , but it didn't help
    Looking through logs ( emagent.nohup, emctl.log, gcagent.log) can't see anythin suspicious.
Where i could dig problems source? any other logs except those shown above?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
Could you tell me how did you fix this issue?

  • There is no connection to the remote host

    Hi,
I have installed the NFR 1.01 on OES2. I have an agent on an other OES2 also and an agent on a Netware6.5 sp7 server. In the admin console is see all agents but no volumes. When i click on the Netware agent i receive a message "There is no connection to the remote host".
On the main screen in the "scan collection" when i ask for "rebuild storage list" nothing happens. (except "rebuild is in progress" the whole day long).
Whats wrong or what have I missed?
    Thanks
    Herman

    Herman,
In your agentncp config please clear the Alternate Hostname, and restart
the agent. Does the agent heartbeat in to the engine?
    thanks,

    Kannan,
the error in your logs like "NoClassDefFoundError" etc. point us towards issues with jar files. either they are missing or not the correct ones.
A general practice in such situation is to
stop all servers except CMS,IFRS,OFRS > repair the base installation
    OR
If you have a working environment with the exact same patch, copy the 'lib' folder from "/bobje/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/java/" to the non-working server.
PS: please attach the logs to the thread instead of pasting the content.

    Team,
I have configured CX, MT and PS. When I navigate to Monitor -> Agent Heartbeat; I see "Unknown" value under Machine and Agent Role tab. Looks like I am missing something? Please advice. Many thanks!

    Hi Avihai,<o:p></o:p>

This is normal behavior. This kind of status will be

  • Wily Introscope on PI production

    Hello experts,
Don't know if this is the right subforum, please redirect me if this isn't the case.
We have been experiencing some memory issues on a productive PI server. I've been able to narrow down the cause to the Wily agent heartbeat, consuming massive amounts of memory over time. (using notes 743207 and 1024206)
Since the agent on the server is kind of ancient, and updating agents was still on my to-do list after the solution manager stack upgrade, i was planning on updating the agent. However, some time ago, i've read a SAP note warning customers about the fact NOT to use Wily on productive PI systems because it would introduce performance issues with PI. So, with that in mind, i was thinking of removing Wily from the productive PI server completely. (Undeploying it i guess..)
After looking into it again today, i was unable to find the note warning customers NOT to use Wily in productive PI environments. Perhaps, something has changed/solved at the side of SAP..? Anyone any ideas regarding the usage of Wily on PI productive systems?
The PI servers mentioned are all 7.1 systems, SOLMAN 7.0 EnhP. 1, Wily agent used is ISAGENT.8.2.3.5-2011-01-14
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
I have from the last two weeks a new project to identify if exist any performance problem in SAP PI 7.10 in a customer with a high volume of transactions per day (around 80.000 IDOC's in SAP from/to PI and some with 40.000 segments).
My first work was to create a report to extract information about the start time, end time, size of message, etc of the messages in PI searching tables and save throught a JOB to printer spool.
With this information I can find if some of the interfaces consumes more time comparing start time vs end time. Also I can find if some interface have a big size. When I have this information, I will review the corresponding interface (message mapping, BPM, etc) to identify if exist any solution to get best performance on it.
Also exist a specific document from SAP for performance check
See: SAP Note 894509 – PI Performance Check

  • Tomcat problem with FileMaker Server

I'm not sure if this is an OS X issue or a FileMaker issue, but I'm kind of lost so I hope someone here can help.
Something happened to the computer we're running FileMaker Server Advanced on and now I can't get the web part of it to work. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the web publishing software, but I can't even get into the administration console at http://localhost/fmi/config - this produces an internal server error from Apache (error 500 - see for yourself at http://medlem.venstre.no ).
    The FileMaker log says
[Wed Feb 21 18:06:33 2007] [jkajpcommon.c (1198)]: Error connecting to tomcat. Tomcat is probably not started or is listenning on the wrong port. Failed errno = 61
    The Tomcat server.log says
    2007-02-21 15:22:20,828 WARN [org.jboss.jmx.adaptor.snmp.agent.Heartbeat] Heartbeat disabled
and that's the only line in that log file.
I've tried googling but I haven't really managed to come up with anything helpful. Any tips from any of you? I'm not really that savvy with Apache and Unix things but with proper direction I think I can figure it out...
The FileMaker server and web additions software are both 8.0v4 on a single machine setup - Mac OS X Server 10.4.8.

I am using Tomcat 5.0.27 and it is working perfectly. perhaps check the stdout.log to see what errors are thrown while starting the tomcat. Check the port also

  • 163 : An illogical condition has occurred.

    Hi,
we're trying to migrate home directories from a OES2 server to a windows (AD) file server. Most of the homedir is copied, but after a while we get the "163 : An illogical condition has occurred". Is there a way to figure out what this is?

This is more than likely to do with Storage Manager trying to migrate folder(s) which have non-standard characters in the foldername. We have gone through a similar exercise of migrating from eDirectory to AD and hit this problem on several occasions. We are a university with international students so can probably guess the extent of the problem! Interestingly, right clicking the home directory on the Novell side and choosing 'Novell/NetWare Copy' the folders migrated with no problem. I did raise this issue with Condrey who sent several updated versions of the NSM Client and Agents but none were able to resolve the problem. In the end I just had to copy the failed homedirs by hand.
In addition, some very deep folder structures will not copy from eDirectory to AD because of the maximum path length of 256 characters on the AD, although this can be confirmed as the cause because 'Novell/NetWare Copy' will also fail!

  • Cluster Volumes

    1. After trying to install the netware agent using my windows 7 machine, I got an error message about it not being able to determine my version of netware. So I switched to an XP machine to install the Netware agent.
    2. My Netware servers are cluster servers. After installing the agent, I am only able to scan the SYS volumes on those servers. I couldn't find any information on how to setup the agent for the cluster virtual servers. Anybody done this who can share what they know?

    Hi Marc,
1.(a) I will have our testing department test the agent installation
from a Windows 7 box. I haven't heard of any issues, and the entire
department is running Windows 7. But I will have you some results soon.
I just tried it with my Windows 7 installing an agent to a VM Netware
    6.5 sp8 server.
I will still get a ruling from our testing department.
2.(a) The engineers are about to release a version of the NFR Agent
that will have "proxy" abilities to be able to proxy for cluster virtual
servers as well as NAS virtual servers. In the meantime, I have a back
door way to do it. With the agent installed on the cluster node itself,
there is a SRAGENT.CFG file under SYS:NFR. You can modify that file and
add a tag (if it doesn't exist) below the <BaseDir> tag:
    <ServerName>virtual server name</ServerName>
Let the agent heartbeat in with this name and you will be able to scan
    the volumes.
    Hope this helps!

  • Heartbeat failure monitor - how to adjust for specific agent

    hi guys,
in our environment we put the default heartbeat settings to 10 samples and 60 seconds intervals.
i have a customer asking for different values on a specific machine hs is the owner of. i looked around and found this:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc540380.aspx
acording to this article, i can change the interval for a specific agent but i can't do the same for the amount of samples (it says i can only control the amount of samples at the MS level). is that indeed correct? i mean, if i want all my environment to
have a value of 10 samples and 1 specific server to have the value of 5 samples, it can't be done?
    thanks a lot,
    Uri

    Hi,
You could change the Global Heartbeat Settings,it change the heartbeat interval at the global level. Changes made in this procedure affect all the agents in the management group.

  • NSM Event Agent for AD location - Best practice

    Hello,
We are currently designing our NSM 3.1 for AD implementation and would like some guidance with regard to installing the NSM Event Agent. We have come up with two options:
The first option is to install the NSM Event Agent on a Domain Controller where new user accounts are provisioned.
The second option is to install the NSM Event Agent on a server with the other NSM components.
The argument for option 1 is that NSM will be notified as soon as an account is created.
The argument for option 2 is that MS best practice is that no other software should be installed on a DC and that the NSM Event Agent will perform a network request to talk to the nearest domain controller to obtain a list of changes since it last connected.
Is there any preferred option, or does it not matter?
    Regards,
    Jonathan

    Jonathan,
Unlike eDirectory event monitoring, Active Directory event monitoring is
accomplished with a polling mechanism. Therefore putting your Event
Monitor on the domain controller will not significantly increase
performance. As long as the Event Monitor is in a site with a domain
controller, it should pick up events as quickly as it can.
For further reading on AD sites and domain/forest topology we recommend
    reviewing http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc755294.aspx.
Remember that for AD, NSM requires only one Event Monitor per domain
(and in fact you'll only be able to authorize one Event Monitor per
domain through the NSM Admin client.) However, deploying a second Event
Monitor as a backup may be helpful. When the AD Event Monitor is
installed and configured for the first time, it first has to build a
locally-cached replica of the domain it resides in. In a large domain
this can take a long time, so having a second EM already running, which
can be authorized immediately if the primary EM goes down, will ensure
that you catch up with events in AD more quickly.
