Nso and nsf file in my trash as recovered files.

With user name and password from my server. While I never login from my local computer to my server. Why is this info there, apart from some software sniffing my server or creating a log of my server password...
This is really scary and how can I find out what is happening?
The nso file have the clear text of the username and password and the nsf have the username and password in encrypted text.
here is an example of the file name :
nso2009.02.11.10.00.36.017.txt
or
nsf2009.02.11.10.00.36.017.txt
I guess a complete re-installation is needed but I would really like to know what is going on, if it's only my computer that is compromised or the server as well. (once again)
thanks

It is Safari, as I have occasionally seen the same thing. I think what happens is this:
1. You go to a site that specifies some odd-ball font that you do not have installed, but you do have a copy of it somewhere (in my case I have an enormous font collection on a backup drive)
2. The system now knows where all fonts are--don't remember whether this started in Leopard or Snow Leopard--regardless of WHERE those fonts are, and Safari has access to this info
3. Since the font isn't installed Safari asks you if it can use the font
4. Safari copies the font into a temporary location, probably one of the standard tmp folders in /private/var/folders/ and leaves the font there
5. When you shutdown and subsequently restart the system disposes of a lot of gunk that gets left in the tmp folder, and puts said gunk in the Recovered Items folder.
If it annoys you to have stuff in the Trash, you could go ahead and install the fonts. However I have never bothered since TextEdit ALWAYS leaves a bit of trash behind, and I use it nearly every day, so I almost always have to empty the Trash and the Recovered Items folder anyway.

  • HT1338 Lost all of my 4950 pics!  My daughter said they were in the wrong file and threw them in the trash.  It shows all thumbnails for photos but nothing?  We can't seem to retrieve them?  Anyone know how?  THX

I'm not sure what to post in?  So here goes.  I'm a photographer and had 4950 pics edited and store on my mac.  My daughter was setting up photo shop and she took iphoto and put it in the trash by accident.  We tried retrieving it and nothing!  It shows that all of the pics all still in iphoto and the thumbnails are there but no pics?  Anyone know how to put these back?  It took me over a year to edit these!  I'm really freaking out!  HELP PLEASE!!!!!   THX

First locate the file with the name: iPhoto Library
Search on your Mac for it if need be using the Find command in the File menu.
When you find this file, hold down the control key and click on it, select Show Package Contents.
Look for a folder called Originals or Masters. That folder has the original photos.
The folder called Previews has the edited photos.
If your iPhoto database is damaged, you might in the worst case have to manually re-import these photos into a new library, but that's only a last resort. Don't move or change anything in the iPhoto Library for now.
If you found this iPhoto Library file, then you still have your actual photos. Now don't touch those photos or move anything. Close up the iPhoto Library window. Put the iPhoto Library back in your Pictures folder. Run iPhoto and hold down the option key. Select that iPhoto Library when requested to select the iPhoto Library. If that doesn't work, select "other" and navigate to that iPhoto Library and select it.
Let follks here know which of the above steps worked and which (if any) did not.

  • SAP File System are being updated at Storage Level and as well as in Trash

    Hi Friends,
We are facing a strange but serious issue with our linux system. We have multiple instance installed on it but one of the instance's file system are being visible in Trash.
    The exact issue is this.
    1. We have db2 installed on Linux now one of our instance's Mount Points are being available in LInux Trash if i create a file at storage level i.e /db2/SID/log_dir/touch test it will be dynamically updated in the trash and will be create in Trash also.
2  this can not be a normal behavior  of any O.S.
3 if i delete any file from trash related to this particular SID (instance) file will be deleted from the actual location.
i know this is not related to SAP Configuration but i just want to find out root cause analysis. if any Linux expert can help in this issue waiting for an early reply.
    Regards,

    Hi Nelis,
I think you have misinterpreted this issue. let me explain you in detail. we have following mount points in storage including SAP installed on it.
    /db2/BID
    /db2/BID/log_dir
    /db2/BID/log_dir2
    /db2/BID/log_archive
    /db2/BID/db2dump
    /db2/BID/saptemp1
    /db2/BID/sapdata1
    /db2/BID/sapdata2
    /db2/BID/sapdata3
    /db2/BID/sapdata4
Now i can see the same mount points in the Trash of linux and if i create a folder ./ file in any of the above mentioned mount point it will be dynamically updated in Trash and if i delete some thing at storage / os level the same will be deleted from trash and vis versa.
I have checked everything no softlink exists anywhere but i am not sure about storage / os level thats what i want to find out?

They do. It's called Time Machine.
You need to reinstall all of your Apps. That should replace all of the support files you nuked.

if you use time machine, you should be able to get it back that way. Although IBA saves changes on an ongoing basis, it doesn't create a back up or supplemental copy elsewhere on your drive.

  • [Thunar] Is it possible to remove trash and delete files instantly?

Hi, I use xfce and I would like to know if it is possible to remove trash support and delete files instantly without having to hold shift key.

    @zoid Thanks i 'll give thunar no-trash a try.
@david batson If i uninstall gvfs then I wouldn't be able to use removable devices, not to mention that files actually move to trash but there is no way of accessing it
    @lmsguer That's what I do so far.

  • I have a macbook air late 2010 and keep getting a warning that my hard drive is full and to delete things so I purchased a external hard drive (1TB) but I'm just not sure what the correct way to transfer and store files to the external drive is. First MAC

I purchased a macbook air about 5 months ago and lately i keep recieving a warning that the hard drive or disk is full and that I will need to move items to trash in order to free up space on it. I purchased a external hard drive 1 TB but I'm very new to mac and ios and unsure as to how I'm suppose to transfer my files (video, pics, music etc.) from my mac over to the external hard drive in the correct way so I won't end up deleting them permenately or screwing anything up with my mac as far as the applications and programs being able to run. Am I supposed to just copy to the external hard drive and then move to and empty the trash? That's pretty much all I could come up with, but then what if i need or want to access that file again at a later time. Also, I have an i Phone and i pad so with i cloud it automatically syncs all my purcheses and if i delete something from itunes on my mac it deletes from my ipad.
I'd appreciate any kind of input i think im just a little lost here. I have to say i love my Mac and wouldn't trade it for anything (except maybe a macbook pro w/more memory)... Is there something I'm missing???

To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit.

For some odd reason I'm not getting sound of of my hdtv/monitor.HELP? I uninstalled all the drives and apps I download. I moived files either to trash if not needed, and others to other external drives. I went into disk utility and did a repair disk permission and verify disk. Clean out junk files. Now my hdtv/monitor does not give me any sound, nor does my mac mini. Can someone please tell me what to do?

    What drivers?

  • Can't find Originals and Modified files in finder

Just upgraded to iPhoto 9 and find that the Original and Modified folders are missing. I can find them when I get file info from a photo in iphoto and they seem to be subfiles of the iphoto app. However in finder, they are not accessible. Am I missing something?

With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder became a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There is never a need for the user to browse the Library via the Finder or any other app. Any time you do you risk damaging the Library.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
All of the above are a: faster and b: safer than rooting through the old Library folders.
    Regards
    TD

  • Can't drag and drop files in iTunes 7.6

I've suddenly lost the ability to drag and drop files in iTunes, so I can't change the order of items within a playlist, move tracks from one playlist to another, or move a selection of tracks to an external drive. When I click & hold on a track, nothing happens at all; if you try to drag the file it doesn't move then bounce back - just no reaction at all. One day it worked fine, next time I launched iTunes the problem appeared. I'd had 7.6 up and running for about a month without this problem, and had no other software downloads or updates immediately before the problem appeared. I'd not changed any iTunes preferences either.
I've checked that lefthand column in the playlist is selected, & that shuffle is turned off, & I'm not trying to move things into a smart list. I've tried trashing the com.apple plist, and repairing disk permissions. My iTunes library lives on an external hard drive, but this hasn't been an issue before. Drag and drop still works fine in other apps, so I don't suppose it's a mouse or Finder issue.
I see a few other people have posted about this, but I haven't seen any solutions yet that worked for me. Am I missing something blindingly obvious? If anyone's got any ideas on this one I'd be eternally grateful - the ability to move things around easily was one of the main attractions of iTunes for me.

Thanks David - that wasn't it, but I have managed to find a fix after trawling through various forums - I logged out then logged back in. Simple as that! Sadly I'm still none the wiser as to what caused the problem in the first place, so don't know if or when it'll reoccur. I also found it was affecting iPhoto after I first posted, so not an iTunes specific problem obviously. Thanks to all those who posted fixes in various forums, though some looked a little too scary for me to try out...

  • Safari and PDF file links

Why can't I open PDF file links in Safari? The new window that opens shows only a black screen. I have the latest verison of Mac software and Adobe software loaded.
    Thanks,

To  view PDF in Safari Preview remove Adobe plug ins if any.
    Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-ins
    Look for these two files.
    AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
    AdobePDFViewer.plugin
Right click it and then select Move to Trash”.

  • Lotus Notes Backup data .nsf file corrupted

    Hello friends,
One of my users backed up data (nsf file) of Lotus notes got corrupted. The file size is 4 GB. Now the user is asking me to retrieve the data (mails) and i am not able to find any utility.
Anyone having idea about any such free utility / tool to repair corrupt .nsf file.
    Thanks in advance.

Lotus Notes Database data corruption usually occurs when the software application or the operating system crashes while the .OND data file is open in memory. In most cases, headers or parts of the data file are not saved to disk causing the data
corruption or the application to fail. There are ways to recover all or part of your data file. U should immediately make 2 or 3 backup copies of the corrupted OND file(s) and stop using the computer except to send the file(s) for recovery analysis.
There is a very good tool NSF Repair Kit such is powerful that repairs & Recovers Lotus Notes NSF file & restores them in original format to any user-intended location.
    1. Make a new copy of the database and deselect Access Control List in the “Specify What to Copy” section of the Copy Database dialog box. This will bypass the corrupt ACL and create a default ACL that you can then modify as necessary.
    2. Replace the design of a mail database with a non-mail template and then do a replace back to the mail template, which has been known to correct corrupted ACLs.
    3. From the Administration client > Files tab, select a healthy ACL database where the ACL is similar to the one that needs to be replaced. Right-click and select ACL.Copy. Select the bad ACL database then right-click and select ACL.Paste. This
is an easy way to reset the ACL.
U may try to download and repair to link
    http://www.nsf.repair/
If all are failed, then go to ur Lotus dir and search for data directory and take full backup of archieve directory.
Or other source of solution your trouble can be at:- http://www.filerepairforum.com/forum/other/other-aa/lotus-notes/247-lotus-notes-8-5
    Hope this may help u!
