NSP ABAP 700 - which kernel patch to use?

Hi,
I have my NSP ABAP 700 from SDN installed on my home laptop.
I'd like to patch the kernel, however I'm not sure which kernel patch I can use from the Markeplace.
I have Windows XP with MAXDB on an intel architecture.
Is it the one called "Windows Server on IA32 32bit"?
A few years ago it was called somthing like x86 32 bit.
Is it the same?
Anyone has experience with patching kernel for NSP ABAP?
I did kernel patch for WAS 6.20 ABAP and I had to also patch the Database in the end. Is it the same for 7.00?

The page does not really say which one I should use. Also, when I go to each patch page, it says "RELEASED" ....obviously not "OBSOLETED".
My OBP version is:

Do I want the highest numbered patch? Why are multiple OBP patches listed as "current" with no direction on which one to install?

Which kernel do you use?

It could be in your Arch box or in another distro. Do you use the distro's packaged kernel or go about compiling your own? If so, do you use any specific patches like zen, tuxonice, etc?
Currently I'm using kernel26-ice from AUR and modified it slightly removing unnecessary support from config.x86_64. It runs great. And it has a number of nice patches. So what do you use?

currently installed kernels (either from sources or git repository (zen))
1) grsec hardened
2) vanilla + BFS
3) zen stable from git
4) zen unstable from git (2.6.33-rc) - currently fastest (BFS/SIO schedulers)

ABAP and Kernel Patches for Upgrade and Conversion in 4.6C

We are in a process of upgrade and unicode conversion for the source release 4.6C (Kernel 46D_EXT Patch 2225).
"Combined Upgrade&Unicode Conversion Guide" for "SAP Basis 4.6C u2192 SAP NetWeaver 7.0 application Server ABAP Unicode Including Enhancement Package 1 Support Package 01 - 06" , In Software Requirements step, it says
"3. Import 4.6D Kernel patch 2326 from SAP Service Marketplace according to SAP Note 19466"
We wanted to know whether "IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECCESSARY TO GO FOR THE KERNEL PATCH 2326". We dont have "EBCIDIC code pages" in our MDMP system.
We need to know becauase we are also doing OS migration from AIX to Sun and this step will add to our production downtime.
Please advice what are the other causes we should go for the kernel 2326.

We wanted to be very sure whether we should used Kernel 46D Kernel patch 2326 (As it is specifically mentioned in the SAP CU&UC guide and in SAP Note 867193, It is mentioned that "This patch contains enhancements that are required to execute the "INDX Analysis" scan)
OR
Can we go for the latest kernel patch avaialable at market place? And Will the latest kernel patch also contains the "enhancements that are required to execute the "INDX Analysis" ?

Problems applying TP / R3trans patch to 700 unicode kernel

When trying to apply an updated TP and R3trans patch to our kernel with apyr3fix, I get errors. Here are the details from the TP run. If you have any ideas as to what might be the problem, please let me know. Thank you.

try to Change RSTOBJ *CMD with EDTOBJAUT (i.e. WRKOBJ, option 2) and give *USE to R3OWNER.
if it's already authorized
then execute
FIXR3OWNS LIB(<krnlib>) OBJ(*ALL)
then execute APYR3FIX
also check following forum to apply patch on i5/OS

How to use a kernel patch?

hi, I am hoping someone can help me here, I am trying to patch my kernel to detect my trackpoint on my thinkpad using the patch from http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14970 but the patch seems to look for a drivers/input/mouse/psmouse-base.c which I don't seem to have(or can't find), anyone know how to solve this problem? I am applying the patch from my /usr/src/<kernel> directory, am I doing something wrong?
I used the commands
patch -p1 < psmouse-move-fsp-lower.patch
and
patch < psmouse-move-fsp-lower.patch
and I get the same results:
can't find file to patch at input line 24
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?

I would suggest to run --dry-run on every patch applied. Safer.
aside of this
1) download kernel from www.kernel.org (or use abs)
2) unpack it in /usr/src/
3) cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.X
4) patch -p1 --dry-run < path_to_patch\psmouse-move-fsp-lower.patch (you can do this as user)
check for errors, above wil not actually apply patch but dry test it
if no errors run
5) patch -p1 < path_to_patch\psmouse-move-fsp-lower.patch
I tested your patch (dated 2010-01-12 06:04) and it applies cleanly, so obviously you are making some mistake. Try again. Hopefully it will work.
Note: I don't use Arch kernel, I don't even have it installed on my system (and miracuously it never broke). Whichever way you will build kernel is up to you.

ABAP code which will use function module during field mapping in LSMW

During field mapping in LSMW, for one of the field called field, I want to use a function module 'QF05_RANDOM_INTEGER', which will generate random numbers and map that random number to that field.
How do I write ABAP code which uses function module, during filed mapping for a particluar field in LSMW ?

You can write in FORM ROUTINE and LSMW.
I hope you know how to write ABAP code at field level.
If not ...
Come to change mode->select the field->Rule->ABAP Code
write a perform statement in ABAP code at field level.
PERFORM test using val
 changing valu.
Go to Utilities(at menu)->switch layout-> extras ->select Layout->check Form routine-> it will display a FORM Routine... at bottom
this is the place where you can write some code for
 FORM test using value
 changing value1
FM call....
.ENDFORM
Get the value1 returned and use for the Field population.

ftp updates.oracle.com allowed to download patches before but now it says the following.

Use different cpufreq governors based on which kernel is running?

Following the advice in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pro_Audio, I've got to the cpufreq part. I've got both the default kernel and linux-rt installed. I think I want linux-rt to use the performance cpufreq governor, but suspect it would be inappropriate for general non-audio use. Is there a way to make Grub 2 boot linux-rt with performance, without it affecting the default kernel's cpufreq governor? Or maybe some other addition to the boot process that would detect which kernel is running, and then decide which cpufreq governor to use? Unless of course, linux-rt uses performance anyway, which would be convenient. I'm new here. Thanks!

Use a BASH script, which maybe looks for "rt" in `uname -r`
To change to performance (an echo for each "cpu"):

In Abap, it is simple!
In Java I see in the System Info: Kernel Version: 7.00 PatchLevel 108458.44
BUT that doesn't correspond to the real patch level which I can see when I do disp+work which gave me 111

I am not sure whether the patch number you are looking for is available.
Typically you can use "-v" to display the patch level of SAP kernel programs. When I run "jcontrol -v" or "jlaunch -v", the patch number is blank (at least on the 6.40 release I checked)
The SP level should be able to tell how current the Java instance is updated, especially for NetWeaver 7 systems always patched with JSPM stack.

Is Kernel upgrade the same as applying a kernel patch? For any SAP system release, there's
just one kernel version right? We just keep applying new patch versions to update it. Is this
correct? Please throw some light.
secondly, in SPAM, what is the difference between new and imported packages? When trying
to apply latest support packages, what steps should you follow? And what are support package
stacks? I know they are a collection od packages but how to find out which one I will need
depending on the current package status of my system?

SPAM - Support Package Manager is used to put ABAP patches in your system. Imported packages mean the packages that are already imported in your system. say your WAS is on SP9 - this means you will find SP1..SP9 in imported packages. this will be useful if you are patching it up in stages. you will find which are already imported and hence put the rest. Sometimes higher patches needs to have some prerequisites. you may find if these prerequisites are satisfied.
New packages are already loaded but yet to be imported. You will find the traffic light - Yellow. for imported packs you will find it green.
if you want to apply latest support packs, first load them into your ABAP system after downloading them from service market place. you may do it using the SUPPORT PACKAGE --> Load FROM FORNT END. then upload the car files and Display/Define Queue. then Import Queue. after queue is imported, Confirm
Presto! you have finished upgrading.

first Find which stack your system is running. this is source stack. then find give the target (say SP14) in service market place. this will give all necessary stacks from your source to target. download them.

Kernel patch upgrade for multiple instance

Hi expert,
I want to know will we follow the same process while upgrade the kernel patch only for Multiple ABAP STAK.
We have system which has 3 instances....................so my question is exactly where we ned to put the kernel files (Generlly it should be in /EXE or /RUN file)and in which instance.......

1.If I copy the patches only in central instance will it affect to all other instances.....?
If you have configured your SAP system correctly then Yes, Kernel upgrade in Central Instance will reflect in Dialog Instances also.
2.what is the concept of SAPMNT..(/sapmnt/SID/exe ).........?
/sapmsnt/SID/SYS/exe -> to share the kernel across the instances
3.What is the difference between EXE and RUN directory ............will it make any difference if I copy into EXE folder instead of
/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run is located on the host system of the R/3 instance and is for locally-stored executables
/sapmsnt/SID/SYS/exe/run -> Central Instance directory
/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe - Dialog Instance directory
you can check the values of DIR_EXECUTABLE or DIR_CT_RUN (if you are using sapcpe) to determine the kernel directories for central and dialog instances respectively
