NSS-300 and Rsync

We have a client who is interested in backing up 5 remote locations to a windows server at a 6th location.  The networks
are MPLS or DMVPN connected.  We would rather they buy a NSS-326 for the main location due to the additional benefits of the Smart Storage device and the customer is interested to know if using Rsync from a NSS to a Windows Server over VPN is a Cisco Approved Configuration.

This should work fine if there is enough Bandwidth to keep up. Our rsync is scheduled so that could help.

  • NSS issues and can't do any administration

    Hello all,
    I hope this is not a re post, I have searched on the forum and Google and can not find anything and am in dire need of some help! I have a SLES 10 SP4, with OES 2 installed on it. It also runs Groupwise 2012. I have NSS setup and configured and it has been running great for the past 2 years. The other day a colleague of mine restarted the server cause it 'was acting funny'. Now that the server has been restarted, we can not access the groupwise nss volume. If I access the server from a windows machine(\\servername) all i get is the sys volume listing. I have gone on the console of the server and try to restart nss, it looks as if it starts up, but I can not access my NSS volume through windows using the server name or with the novell client. If I try to use imanager to check the pools and volumes, It says that the version file can not be read, and NSS may not be running on the server. If I use nsscon, and try to run any nss commands, /pools and /volumes shows everything as active. As I looked through log files I did find that ncp2nss is reporting can not open /_admin/Manage_NSS/manage.cmd the says ncp2nss halted(0). I have removed NDS and re added NDS, I have refreshed the NSS and NCP through Yast-OES Install, and I have verified that LDAP, and nam are running. If i go to the server console, I can navigate to the /media/nss/GROUPWISE volume and see all the files, and Groupwise is still working fine. I can not administer Groupwise and add users from Console one, and my backup uses the unc path to backup databases, which is not accessible. Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance

    Can you give some more detail on the server itself... is it running physical or virtual? Have there been changes to the disk configuration (adding/removing/expanding) or other while keeping the server online?
    Also, does your colleague have a little more description to what was acting funny? Or was it just slow at times?
    -Willem
    No there have been no changes to the disks or server at all. It is a physical server, not virtual. As for certificates, when I removed edirectory, I deleted everything in the OU dealing with the server, and assume that when edir was added back it created new certs. I did however go through iManager and repair default certs there, telling it to overwrite all certs. The only other Certs I have not touched is the CA for the tree, however I have other servers running NSS volumes and they are fine. Also noticed that the pools and volumes for this server are NOT in edir, and with out iManager, or nssmu, I am not sure of how to update edir with volume information, and not sure if that is the problem. and Last, unfortunately, no my colleague has given me very little information on what was going on.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Personal LaserWriter 300 and Macintosh SE

    I have a Personal Laserwriter 300 and a Macintosh SE running system 6.0.8. After installing all the correct software, selecting the right settings (i think), and clicking print i get the message "There is a problem with the Printer. Check to make sure..." etc. But i know everything works (at least, the hardware) because I am able to plug the laserwriter into my beige g3 (os 9.2.2), enable printer sharing, network the G3 and SE using phonenet (or whatever they are) adapters, and print fine from the SE. It works over the network, but not when the printer is hooked directly to the SE. Would anybody know how to fix this? Maybe I am doing something wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    The serial ports on a Mac can be used for two similar serial protocols. One is "serial", just what you would expect it to be. The other was originally called AppleTalk, but AppleTalk was greatly expanded when Ethernet came on the scene, so Apple tries to refer to it as LocalTalk, but they do not want to re-write the manuals from 1985, so the unambiguous way is to call it AppleTalk/LocalTalk.
    According to the AppleSpec on the Personal LaserWriter 300, it is a serial-only printer, not an AppleTalk/Localtalk printer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=112495
    If you turn on Appletalk on the port the printer is using, I expect it will not work any more. AppleTalk/LocalTalk speed is 240,000 bits/sec, and I expect if you try to use PhoneNet cubes to connect to it, it will not work any more, because they are tuned to run best at a higher speed. There are around five different cables that end in a Mini-DIN-8 connector. The Apple System/Peripheral-8 cable, Part Number M0187 is the one you want. A modem cable will not be wired correctly.
    Are you using the same cables each time? could you have a bad cable?

  • How to revive a dead 9600/300 and 8500/120 Powermac

    I now have a 9600/300 and a 8500/120 Powermac. Both ran perfect when I bought them used for a day after I updated their system software to 8.6 for many hours. After shutting them down both would not restart (completely dead). I did the usual procedures: new battery, cuda reset, processor reset, tried to start up on external Zip drive with a known good 8.6 system on a disk.
    Nothing! I am at the end of my know how. Most Mac owners I know come for
    help to me. Any ideas on where to go from here? Please help!

    Walter,
    Time to start isolating components. Do you have an 8.1 system CD or an external hard drive? Is your keyboard suspect? Can you power up with just a mouse and no keyboard? Can you hear the power supply fan come on? Have you changed power cords? Change item by item.
    Also, how long are you giving the boot process? Check out this link:

  • Updating mysql and rsync on leopard server.

    I would like to update to the latest versions of both mysql and rsync on a leopard server. There are already pre-installed versions from the original OS install. I am looking for the best practice approach here. Do I remove the pre-installed first or do I just install the latest builds over what is there? I tried installing mysql over the older version but it installed in a different directory than the original. And since Mysql exists in Server Admin, how will my updating affect it's operation here in Server Admin? If I remove both applications, how to best do this via command line to make sure I get everything, including older man pages? I also want to make sure I can access both applications by just typing the command name at a prompt. I believe I have to add the path to my bash shell somehow. I'm doing this just for my own education and not for a critical need. I would like to know how to properly do this but all I find on the net is installing instructions. Thank you.

    If you want to use Server Admin to manage your server then stick with the pre-built applications shipped by Apple. Server Admin won't ever know to manage applications installed elsewhere.
    If you want to build and install your own I'd recommend installing in parallel, in a separate directory from the Apple-provided versions. If you don't then some of your apps are going to get overwritten by some future system update (e.g. if Apple include an updated version of rsync in a system update, it will likely replace your version).

  • Veeam and OES NSS drives and GroupWise

    Can anyone give me some tips and or tricks when it comes to backing up SLES 11 Sp3 / OES 11 Sp2 servers with NSS drives and GroupWise 2014 using Veeam 8.0?
    I am testing Veeam 8.0 for our company and am a little leery about do a restore of files on our production server and really dont want to setup a complete test server if it pretty straight forward.
    Just wondering,
    Ken

    Veeam 8.0 does have a restore using NSS file system option. My concern is when Veeam does a FLR proxie and brings up a duplicate (excluding IP Address) of my main OES 11 System. Will they conflict having the same name/tree structure or wont the original OES tree even know its there?
    I dont really have the equipment to setup a full test environment so I am hoping someone can help me with this.
    Thanks,
    Ken

    The PC running the OPC server is connected to PLC S7-300 via the RS232 serial port and the Siemens RS232-MPI adapter (product no. 6ES7972-0CA23-0XA0).
    But I encounter such problem when I create an object(S7_HMI)in IA Server:

    First of all, Thank You very much for Your answer.
    I'm using the TS Adapter that make the conversion from MPI to the serial bus.
    I have made yet control panels to supervisor systems with Omron PLCs and I correctly use the DataSocket with the DSC module: with Omron PLCs I've never had any problems of communications. The problems is now with Siemens. For the communication between control panel and PLC I have to use the internal modem of my computer and the OPC is S7_MPI of IA opc Server.I wondering if this OPC is ok for modem communications (inside there is a form to insert the phone number of the remote station) or if every kind of modem are compatible with S7-300 modem it has inside.I've noted that my computer modem don't do the phone number when i run the front panel!In running mode, if I take a look to the Block Diagram and I click the "Highlight Execution" button I don't see any animation on the code generated by the HMI Wizard to connect the only one tag to the DataSocket URL.
    Have You any other suggestions to solve the problem?

  • Kernel_Task High CPU Usage (300%) and Fan Speed - On Battery and Plugged In

    Hi Everyone,
    Came here to ask for help given my bad situation with MBA 13 Mid-2013 (Mavericks 10.9.2). Yesterday I`ve opened my MBA and it was very laggy and sluggish, and I could hear the fan going crazy on speed. After opening Activity Monitor, Kernel_Task was consuming 300% of CPU in average... I suspect that may be related to recently installed CleanMyMac2, after performing a series of cleaning tasks to save space on my MBA (couldn`t say I wasn`t  afraid of doing it). But this situation came a week after the cleaning above, so it`s kind of confusing. Last app I've downloaded was OneNote from AppStore. Two days later the problem started out.
    I`ve checked in a lot of discussions on this kernel situation, but none was like mine. The majority had relation with the Mac being on battery; after plugged in everything worked. In my case it happens both ways, on A/C and on battery. Tried the resets but no success at all. Also tried to boot in safe mode, but somehow didn`t work for me in Mavericks.
    I`m desperate to find a solution but it`s kinda hard to find it. That`s why I`m asking for your help! Thanks a lot!!!

  • Batch change dpi from 72 to 300 and export as jpg

    Hi All,
    I have searched high and low, and have yet to find a script that will accomplish this task. I am in need of a script that will change Illustrator's default 72 dpi, to 300 dpi so I can print a series of (about 200) respectable looking images. They also need to be exported to jpg.
    Is this possible to do in batch?
    I have tried countless approaches. The closest I have come is using Graphic Converter Pro, unfortunately it cannot change the dpi from 72 to 300 (as far as I could tell). Any help is greatly appreciated. I have access to Mac OS and Windows. I've been trying to tackle this for quite some time. Thank you!

    Hi, thanks for your responses. I do have Photoshop. What I am trying to do is take about 100 .ai files and export them to .jpg. However, they are going to be printed, and any sort of batch export as .jpg I have tried so far has resulted in substantial resolution (72 dpi). I am well aware of how to change the resolution for exporting each file individually, however what I want to do is batch the whole process together. I will try the resizing approach. Thanks both of you!

  • How to save secret key in the NSS certDB and then retrieve it through Java?

    Hi,
    I 'm pretty new trying to handle keying material for NSS fips mode.
    After following the guidelines from http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/security/p11guide.html#NSS I need my code to use SecretKeyFactory method generateSecret with DESedeKeySpec parameter in the following way:
    Provider nss = new sun.security.pkcs11.SunPKCS11(configFileName);
    Security.addProvider(nss);
    SecretKeyFactory keyFactory = SecretKeyFactory.getInstance("DESede", nss);
    DESedeKeySpec keySpec = new DESedeKeySpec(new String("abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvw").getBytes("UTF-8"));
    SecretKey key = keyFactory.generateSecret(keySpec);
    The question is: what are the steps needed to save secret key "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvw" in NSS certDB in the fips mode (nssModule = fips in pkcs#11 conf. file) and how should it be retrieved in the Java code?
    Any help will be appreciated...

    OK...I didn't test this in FIPS mode, but it works in keystore mode (which says persistent storage of keys)
    KeyGenerator kg = KeyGenerator.getInstance("DESede",nss);
    kg.init(192);  //yields 168-bit key
    SecretKey tripleDesKey = kg.generateKey();
    KeyStore.SecretKeyEntry skEntry = new KeyStore.SecretKeyEntry(tripleDesKey);
    ks.setEntry(randAlias, skEntry, new KeyStore.PasswordProtection(password));I was generating some random bytes and base64'ing them to get a random alias on each execution of the program. I'd also loop through and print out the aliases before I generated another key to ensure it was storing the key in between runs which it was.
    Command-line proof the keys are in db:
    symkeyutil -L -d .

  • Has somebody already used Applicom PCI2000ETH Card or Applicom SW1000ETH software to communicate with ETHERNET bewteen siemens s7-300 and LabVIEW DSC ?

    I want to use ETHERNET and not PROFIBUS to communicate and I think you can do that with only the applicom software SW-1000ETH. You must just have an ethernet card on your PC. So, you could use a notebook with an
    ethernet card. You can also use Applicom PCI2000ETH for better performance.

    Hi,
    You might be able to get the configuration listed above working as long as you can get from Siemens/Applicom or any other third party provider a OPC Server that communicates with the S7-300. Since LabVIEW DSC is a OPC client, you would be able to establish connection.
    The National Instruments driver for the S7-300 (Containnned in the product called "IA OPC Server CD") does not support communication through ethernet directly, you would either have to have a Profibus board or use a serial port with a Siemens HMI Adapter.
    I hope it helps

  • Asking again: any fixes for http:/1.1 300 and 500 errors in iCal-Server?

    Hi there
    I've set up several OS X servers in the last few months, most of them with ical services up and running. Quite everything works smooth, but most customers experience sooner or later errors like
    http:/1.1 300... (mostly with repeating events, which seem to be buggy in iCal&CalDAV already for a long time)
    http:/1.1 500...
    neither are there any relevant entries in the log, nor does it occur on a regular base - in fact, we can observe these errors all 2 or 3 weeks or so. Stopping an restarting of iCal services usually fixes them. DNS is set up perfectly well, including the SRV-entries.
    What about you? Do we just have to live with these errors? Or do I really have to sell Kerio to my customers?
    Thanks for any suggestion
    Regards
    Roman

    Hi Roman
    I have had a few years setting up and administering various calendar options on Xserve.
    The Apple built in iCal server is by far the worst of the lot.
    Previous to that we used phpicalendar- http://phpicalendar.net/documentation/index.php/Main_Page
    It is a bit dated and does not support the same feature set as the Apple one. It works well though.
    Kerio on the other hand is great, works well and is easy to use, apart from accepting invites on iOS devices. Its also a much better mailserver than Apple's one.
    Another option is to write a script to run everyday to stop and restart the ical service?

  • Asha 300 and Mail for Exchange error - will not in...

    Hi there,
    I have just purchased an Asha 300 to trial Mail for Exchange, however every time I try to install Mail for Exchange I get the error message "You are running an unsupported OS version.  Please upgrade to OS14.53 or later".  When I try to do a software update from the Nokia Suite it says there are no updates available and the software version in v07.57.
    On the Mail for Exchange application it clearly says that the Asha 300 is a compatible device.
    Has anyone come across this before, or any ideas how to get it working?
    Thanks in advance.

    Please, have a look at the 7-letter code printed on your device (product code). That determines the firmware variant you have. And the firmware variant determines which updates you get. Consequently, what is your product code?

    I agree with your thoughts, and was excitedly looking forward to Cisco's entry in the small NAS market and rushed out to buy a NSS326 (Equiv to QNAP TS-659) Unit.  I already own a QNAP TS-639 older model for 1.5 years and loved it - and expected Cisco just to make this even a better unit.  Which in some ways they have (Syslog and Radius features) - although as you've already noticed, elimation of QPKG application support which numbers up to almost 2 dozen applications that are not available on Cisco's version
    Unfortunately if you look on eBay, you'll see my NSS326 up for sale.
    To address your points (from my point of view)
    1) ROCK SOLID:  I've found the hardware to be just that (on both units).  Built well, and I'm sure will last for years.   As for software stability, - see next
    2) FAST FIRMWARE UPDATES:  It's for this reason that the unit is up for sale.   V3.0 of the firmware was a major release.  And there have been issues - although many/most of them have been addressed with still a few (somewhat serious) issues still lingering.   QNAP seems to be attacking these fairly quickly.   Unfortunately there has been 2 releases from QNAP addressing issues since Cisco's adoption of this unit since v3.2.6.   As you'll see in these posts, Cisco is not following QNAPs releases, and will be releasing their own line of firmware.  For me, this is a serious issue - and I wish I knew this before purchasing.  I feel Cisco is already 2 releases behind which includes many fixes to their current platform. (Also see QPKG note above - many missing applications)
    3) SUPPORT:  This is where Cisco excels and always has.   To start 5yr vs 1yr warranty, and of course Cisco TAC is one of the best in the world.  In contrast, QNAP's support quite frankly isn't great - although, it's support community for forums are excellent.   Unfortunately I can't speak specifically on NSS support since I haven't called them for this, so I'm speaking more generally.
    So it really boils down to whats more important for your situation.
    Cheers
