NSS and LUN expanding - what you need to know before you migrate

Thought I'd share, since this isn't in any documentation or TID that I
can find.
Before you move to OES2 Linux with NSS or multipathing code or EVMS, you
may want to consider this limitation (IMO, a major limitation if you're
running an Enterprise).
If you SAN allows you to grow/expand a LUN (ie, LUN1 was 50 GB and now
you grow it to 100 GB), you cannot use the new space until you reboot
the server itself. If you're running NCS, then you need to reboot every
node that can host the clustered resource before you can expand the NSS
pool.
The issue is a bug in the devmapper portion of SLES. ANYTHING that uses
devmapper will prevent the further layers (ie, multipathing or EVMS)
from seeing the additional space until you reboot the server.
Obviously rebooting servers in the middle of the day to add more space
affects Enterprise services to your users. As does making them wait
until off-hours before they can write/save any data to the servers. Not
to mention rebooting multiple nodes in your NCS cluster.
Novell won't fix this until SLES 11. Even then (ie, if you implement
OES2 now and can live with the limitation it won't be truly fixed in
SLES 11 if you're using NSS/EVMS), as the limitation will still be in
EVMS in SLES 11. Therefore, you'd have to migrate your data to LVM2 (I
believe that's what Novell is switching to). Yet another major
disruption for your users.
So, if you're thinking about OES2 with NSS/EVMS or multipathing, you may
want to consider the effect this will have to your userbase (ie, how
many times do you want to migrate your data?)
In our case, looks like it's goint to be one migration --- to MS
Windows.

Hi,
General rule, if you think rebooting is NOT an option AND you are not using clustering - you're looking for trouble.
I know I can increase space to my cluster with out kicking my users offline.
Worked for NSS.
Worked for OCFS.
Limitation noted and ignored.

  • MacBook Pro....things you need to know before you buy!!!

Helpful hints before you buy your MacBook Pro 15 or 17 inch:
    1. New MacBook Pro...does not have a firewire 400 port!!. If you have to transfer data from an old (2 years old) MacBook Pro to new one...need a 800 firewire cable or a 400 to 800 cable!!
    2. New MacBook Pro with HD Cinema 30 inch. The two items are not compatible unless you purchase the $99 Dual (not single), I repeat Dual..."Mini Display Port to Dual-Link adapter:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MTA4NDU1NDM
The reason I am posting this is that I bought a MacBook Pro 15 inch on Monday and I specifically told the Apple people at the store what I had: 2 year old MacBook Pro and Cinema HD and what I would need and they sold me the mini single adapter. Nothing worked. Went to the store 3 times and no one could help me. Finally a guy from Australia, on this forum, was able to answer my call for help!!! I actually had to take his email into the store and show it to the Apple folk and they finally got me the correct adapter. Today is Friday, 4 days later and I am finally able to work on a project that has been on hold while I figured out something fairly simple...so much for these "Apple genius people." Just think the problems I would have had if I had an older Mac laptop or a PC laptop?!?@!

    Hi kleeks,
Glad you got it sorted in the end!
To be fair, most of the Genius bar people are very good and your experience was probably not typical, but it is also worth remembering that some of us here have been using Macs since before some of the Geniuses were even born, so we often know a thing or two that they may not have cottoned on to yet! When in doubt, a second opinion here can often be well worth obtaining.
Really glad you have it running as it should now.
    Cheers
    Rod (the "guy from Australia")

  • What you need to know before buying an antenna

Isn’t it time you upgraded to an antenna? Wait… what? Upgrade to an antenna? Whether or not you’re a cord cutter (meaning you’ve cancelled your monthly television service) you might find that adding an antenna to your entertainment viewing space can be a great upgrade for a variety of reasons. Whatever those reasons are, here’s what you need to know before buying an antenna.

I don't set out to sell anything, I'm an independent writer tasked with writing stuff about things to inform people. We link stuff to help people find things if they want to buy them, but the above isn't a sales pitch, it's info to help people figure out if they want or need something.
I didn't know that there was a cabal of antenna dealers who have been promulgating a myth (as a writer: nicely done there) about the nature of NTSC and ATSC; I hadn't ever considered that the antenna market was that large. When I received the request to write an article about antennas I was actually surprised; antennas don't have the support of major telecommunications companies and I sincerely doubt that there's going to be a run on them because of this article. I saw this as a bit of a public service opportunity to talk about a technology that a small segment would be interested in.
Anyway, I'm not sure we're going to get much farther on this; yes Best Buy sells antennas, but no, they didn't ask for an ad. They asked for an article that focused on how these antennas work and what to look for. Thank you for adding your insight about ATSC - I think that was actually covered in paragraphy three, but it's nice to see it spelled out more directly.
Have a nice day - and if you'd like to discuss this directly, please send me a DM on twitter @thetechnogram

  • Things you need to know before updating

I have seen that more and more users come with a lot of problems after they try to update their devices. These problems are due to unaware of how to properly and carefully prepare the phone before and during the update.Always make sure that:
Battery level: Should be at least at 60~70% charged ( SUS or PCC advice you to have it at least at 50%, but to ensure better performance, keep it well above 50%).
Backup your contacts, data, apps, etc you can use PCC, MyphoneExplorer or Alternatives on How to backup Xperias; it is recommended to use a computer to backup your media (music, videos, photos).
USB: The USB cable should not be disconnected at any time, if the computer stopped recognizing there is NO possibility that the USB cable to disconnect during the process (as this will result in an incomplete install, which will only make more trouble for you).
Power outages: If you know you live in an area that is prone to blackouts (electric failures) and/or slow internet service/connection, try to look for other places to update; as some updates need a reliable and fast internet connection, the update file could be up to 1 GB.
Follow the steps: Carefully follow the steps provided by the update tool whether it’s SUS or PCC.
    Notes:
Some users encountered issues with PCC on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.To overcome these issues, download SUS.
There are instances when SUS does not show all phone models. In these cases, you need to run it in COMPATIBILITY MODE with Windows 7.
For all kind of questions, issues contact any of the support members on the forum.
    Have fun with your devices!

hey guys,i tried to install the latest version of itunes but when i try to open it,it just comes up windows error 2 apple application support was not found, can anyone help me out and tell me what i need to do pls ?

If you run into the "another installation" message even after the reboot of the PC (which is an excellent idea by HTP ProXy), reregistering your Windows Installer Service is worth a try.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
    At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Restart the PC and try another reinstalll.

You will need a Mac, with OS X 10.6+ on it, to be able to develop iOS apps.

When I went and connected my phone to my laptop and hit restore and it got rid of everything my photos my contacts everything and I don't know how to get the stuff back and if you need to know I have an IPhone4S

I take it you were replacing an older iPhone and this was the first time you plugged it in? If so, that's what happens. It restored the backup of your old phone. A backup of the current phone is not made in those circumstances.
If that's not what happened, you need to clarify.

  • What are the main COPA principles in manufacturing you need to know?

    Hello
What are the main COPA principles in manufacturing you need to know?
    thanks

    Mr Comandante,
Which exactly is the information that you are looking for ?
It does not matter which strategy of manufacturing you are using. At the end of the period, the differences between the comparison of the planning costs with the actual costs can be taken to COPA, to be reflected as Inefficiency or differences in Production.
If you are using discrete (Make to order) or Process Manufacturing, you need to configure in the profile of the settlement of the order a profile for COPA.
If you are using repetitive manufacturing in the collector of cost.
Please feel free to ask for any further information that you want, mi estimado amigo

  • I will soon be purchasing a new PC running Windows 7. I need to know how to migrate my iTunes Library and apple devices to the PC. Is there a previously published support document on this topic? Thank You.

I will soon be purchasing a new PC running Windows 7. I need to know how to migrate my iTunes Library and apple devices to the PC. Is there a previously published support document on this topic? Thank You.

Connect a blank powered external drive to the PC.
Right click on the Disk in the File manager and choose format: exFAT
(if it's a XP machine, first install exFAT from Microsoft and reboot)
navigate to your user account folders on the PC and drag and drop copy (or copy and paste) to the external drive.
(if a program has your files, then export them out first)
Hook up the drive to the Mac, and transfer files to the desktop or to their same appropritate folders.
Import photo's into iPhoto program, import music into iTunes etc and they will manage those files.
You can continue to use the external exFAT drive between Mac's and PC's
Do not format the drive NTFS or FAT, NTFS can't be written too by the Mac and FAT can't hold over 4GB sized files.
If you format exFAT on the Mac, it likely won't work correctly on the  PC.
"Migration" type programs are a utter waste of time and effort between PC's and Mac's for the fact that only certain files (and no programs or anything else) will work between them, also it's a hassle and takes too long. So don't even bother with it.

  • HT1320 how can i save me data stored on a non responding ipod classic and says you need to format before using it?

how can i save me data stored on a non responding ipod classic and says you need to format before using it?
in another way : how can i save my date stored on my classic iPOD as a external hard .... when that msgs appears .... volume doesn't contain a recognized file system , make sure the file system is loaded .... then , you need to format ??? can anyone help ?

It sounds like the iPod's storage has data corruption.  You may be able to treat it like an external drive and use data recovery software on it, but it probably won't work because the system is telling you that the drive needs to be formatted before it is recognized.
If the problem is data corruption and there is no hardware-related problem on the iPod's hard drive, a Restore should fix the problem.  But this will obviously erase the iPod's hard drive.
