NSS initialization failed: -8177. Cert database
Hi
using Iplanet 4.1SP8 on w2k Server, get this error message starting my ssl secured Web-Server instance. The CORRECT password is stored in the password.txt file in the \config directory (as described in AdminGuide4.1).
Where is the error?

There are many chances of the following when you get the above error
1) Check your permissions of your <web_server_root>/alias directory and the files of certificate db files
The user who is starting the web server should have enough permissions over the cert files.
2) There are chances that your certificate db got corrupted. Restore your cert files from your backup (key3 and cert7)
3) If that is not working , remove the cert files of alias directory, create trust database, request cert and install cert again freshly.

My Web Server went down after running for about 20 minutes and I received the following message in the log file:

I recently installed a fresh copy of Sun Webserver 6.1 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5. After successfully completing the install, I tried to start the administrative server and got the following errors in the log:

Does anyone have any ideas about what might be the problem? I noticed that the /opt/SunWwbsvr/alias folder was empty. Is that normal? I then tried copying the contents of the alias folder from another server to the machine with the empty alias folder. The problem persisted.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Note: Upgrading to WebServer 7 is not currently an option due to some ancient webapps.Dear All,
I am having the same issue as well. The admin we had before has left and has not passed on the iPlanet 6.1 webserver Admin console username and password and the Trust Store username and password as well.
How do we reset the Trust Store password and launch the console?

J2EE Engine start error: Database initialization failed!
My J2EE engine now fails to start - jcontrol stays yellow. I've followed Troubleshooting pages from help.sap.com Admin manual topic "starting J2EE Engine".
Background:
I was running through JDI Scenario 2+ on a fresh installed WebAS 6.40 at SP9. Using NWDevStudio2.09, I attempted to load a DC, but servers stopped responding. So I downed everything (in MMC) including offlining the DB, then put DB back online and restart the J2E engine, and now jcontrol stays yellow.

ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?????Using the Database Administration section of the help.sap.com library, I found the location of SAPDB/MySQL log files. They are in C:\sapdb\data\wrk\J2E. In 'knldiag' I found entries complaining of Log files being full and tasks put in suspension.
So I figured out to do a full back up of the DB and/or backup the log files. The log file bar (in MMC) still showed 100% full, but I figured out to refresh the view and voila it was empty (so one of the backups emptied it, not sure which one).
After that the DB comes up fine and now my J2E WebAS goes all green.

NSS Initialization Failure - Error 8038
We are migrating a SunONE 7 legacy environment from Solaris 10 to Solaris 10 but with a new Solaris 10 Zone build. When we attempt to startup the admin server we get the following error:

Database initialization failed after attach the database.

I have a problem after detaching the database and attaching it again (I moved the database to another partition because of shortage of disk space). Then, I find that the system can not start. (I've two systems and now neither of them could start). The error seems very similar.
In the pure java system(netweaver 04s) log: jvm_bootstrap.out,

com.sap.engine.frame.core.configuration.configurationException: Error while connecting to DB.

What I have attempted:
- Attempted to connect to Shared Services, Workspace url's - YES
- Checked openLDAP & my Database is running - YES
- Added following to Configuration File :
SharedServicesLocation machinex 28080
AUTHENTICATIONMODULE CSS http://machinex:28080/interop/framework/getCSSConfigFile YES, but same error
- Changed essbase.bak to essbase.sec YES but same error
- netstat -an to check for 1423. Port 1423 is not listening, although ALL TCP Ports have been enabled. So YES but same error.
- Read Knowledgebase article # 954322.1 - the suggested things in there don't seem to apply to my case, unless I am missing something.
At this point does anybody have any suggestions ?An update: Just for kicks, I tried restarting Essbase using Start->Programs-EPMSystem->Essbase->EssbaseServer->Essbase.bat and apparently now Essbase is started.
EAS, Studio and Planning however are down.

I am using Crystal Reports Server XI on Linux Server with Oracle Server 10g.
I did install Oracle Client on Report Server and config Oracle SID in tnsnames.ora also. It works well with tnsping command. Then, I published a report which was created in Crystal Reports developer on this server.
When I preview the report on Report Server. I got the following error message:
Error in File Report1: Failed to load database information.
Try to fix the problem I ran web Central Management Console -> Objects ->Report1->Process -> Database and set there the following parameters:
Database driver: Oracle
Server: servers_host_name
Database: (tried both ORACLE_SID and tns_name)
User: oracle_user_name
Password: oracle_pw
It still got the same problem.

Tham.I was having a similar problem in Crystal Reports Server 2008 v1, and had to install the full client to resolve it, which I didn't like. I poked around some, and was able to get the Instant Client working with a few minor changes. Note that I tried it only with the 32-bit Instant Client even though I was on a 64-bit system because that was what SAP recommended when I talked to them.
The changes I had to do was initialize the Oracle environment variables (the instant client doesn't have a script to do this for you) and to create a soft-link which is included in the full client, but not in the instant client.
To setup the environment variables I created a file called env.sh and put it in /opt/crystal/bobje/setup/oracle/, where /opt/crystal was my install path. This ensured that it got called by the /opt/crystal/bobje/setup/env.sh script which runs as part of the System init scripts to initialize the environment. The following is what I put in my file (again for the 32-bit 11g R2 instant client):
export ORACLE_SID=summitdb
export ORACLE_HOME='/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client'
export ORACLE_BASE='/usr/lib/oracle/'
export TNS_ADMIN='/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/network/admin'
export PATH="$:/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/bin"
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$$/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/lib"
After that, I created the missing soft link using this command:
ln -s "$/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1" "$/lib/libclntsh.so.10.1"
Once I had done those two things, and restarted the service using the /etc/init.d script, it worked fine. -

report server project.
•I reconfigured both databases' Compatibility level to SQL Server 2012(110) from SQL Server 2008(100).
•I configured SSRS through Reporting Services Configuration Manager as below:
> I chosen "Use built-in account:" as Service Account
> In "Database" tab, I selected "Choose an existing report server database" and choose "ReportServer2008To2012" db, I used "Windows Authentication" (my login has the System Administrator priviledge). I got all 4 parts
success: Verifying database sku = Success; Generating rights scripts = Success; Applying connection rights = Success; Setting DSN = Success.

Oracle Windows Sevice does not start (ORA-12640: Authentication adapter initialization failed)
I converted a physical windows 2003 machine to a virtual hyperv machine.
The following error occurs in oradim.log when I try to start the Oracle Windows Service on the virtual server:
ORA-12640: Authentication adapter initialization failed
I recreated the service and the password file but with no luck.
I also tried to change sqlnet.ora with the following: (Replaced NTS to NONE)
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)
In this case the service was started but when I tried to connect as sysdba using sqlplus "/ as sysdba" the "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges" error occurs. If you connect using the password then it connects fine. But I would like to be able to connect without a password because I have some scripts that I do not want to hardcode the sysdba password.
I also removed and readded the administrator password from ORA_DBA group but again with no luck.Have you seen this:

It has also been observed that the services like Oracle Enterprise Management Agent, Oracle Enterprise Manager Management Server and Oracle Internet Directory may also fail for the same reason because they cannot connect to the database.
The workarounds for this problem are:
Remove the line sqlnet.authentication_services=(NTS) from SQLNET.ORA or set sqlnet.authentication_services=(NONE) in SQLNET.ORA.
Start the database manually after the Oracle database service has started using SQL*Plus connecting as user name INTERNAL. Note that the INTERNAL user name will not be available after release 8.1.7.
Start the service as a specific user:
Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Services. The Services dialog box appears.
Select the service you want to start.
Click the Startup button. The Service dialog box appears.
Click This account and specify the user name and corresponding password. -

I have created 2 database seperately. But I couldnt started up those 2 database at the same machine. Like either one is alive but not second one. When I startup the second database, got this error message : ORA-27146 Post/Wait Initialization failed.
I have tried to increase the sizes of System file variables at /etc/system, but its not.
I dont know the calculation for those variables when I use 2 or more instances.
Environment : Solaris8 / Oracle 8.1.5.
Please let me know if you need more clarification of problem.

On starting Essbase, system throws error "CSS Initialization Fails"

I have been using the hyperion essbase in the past.
Today the someone removed the network cable connecting to the servers. I put them back but since then i am facing issue where i cannot connect to Essbase server.
I tried restarting the essbase server. On starting the server it first gives the warning:

I've installed MDM 5.0 server with oracle 10.2 as the database on Windows 2003 server.
When I try to create a repository for the first time I'm facing the following issue "Error initializing database engine"
The log says:

I'm able to connect to the database through SQL plus also the tnsping tests are successfull.
Please let me know your ides to resolve this issue.

Even we have installed MDM 7.1 SP 10 Oracle 11.2.0, But we have 3 SAP instance running on the system:
1) SRM:
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
2) CRM:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.2.0 - 64bit
3) MDM:
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
when the server is restarted the MDM is not able to connect to the Database.

SQL Server not starting - FallBack certificate initialization failed
I can not start my SqlServer 2008 Express. The problem seemed to start when I changed my "Built In account, Log in as" from Local Service to Local System. If I try to change back to Local Service I get the messagebox with WMI Provider Error, "Cannot find object or property. [0x80092004]".
Getting a bit confused, but read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900497 mentioned about
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib, Value name: Certificate, Type: REG_SZ not having a valid value then 2005 would not starte - my value is blank. Changing it to 0 did not work.
How can I import a valid certificate using SQL Server Configuration Manager. And how do you turn off Forced Encryption? Not sure if this would fix it, but couldn't hurt.

TheBrendaI know it's probably too late to help with the original poster, but we had this same issue and nothing we tried resolved the problem. Finally, we opened a technical incident with Microsoft and this is the solution that we were provided:
Take backup of below registry key.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\MachineGuid This key should ideally have the GUID of the machine without curly braces, so {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} becomes xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
Then delete the braces.
Try to reboot and start the SQL service . If service don’t start then Uninstall and reinstall SQL.
The above solution worked on two separate machines exhibiting this problem.
