NSS issues and can't do any administration

I hope this is not a re post, I have searched on the forum and Google and can not find anything and am in dire need of some help! I have a SLES 10 SP4, with OES 2 installed on it. It also runs Groupwise 2012. I have NSS setup and configured and it has been running great for the past 2 years. The other day a colleague of mine restarted the server cause it 'was acting funny'. Now that the server has been restarted, we can not access the groupwise nss volume. If I access the server from a windows machine(\\servername) all i get is the sys volume listing. I have gone on the console of the server and try to restart nss, it looks as if it starts up, but I can not access my NSS volume through windows using the server name or with the novell client. If I try to use imanager to check the pools and volumes, It says that the version file can not be read, and NSS may not be running on the server. If I use nsscon, and try to run any nss commands, /pools and /volumes shows everything as active. As I looked through log files I did find that ncp2nss is reporting can not open /_admin/Manage_NSS/manage.cmd the says ncp2nss halted(0). I have removed NDS and re added NDS, I have refreshed the NSS and NCP through Yast-OES Install, and I have verified that LDAP, and nam are running. If i go to the server console, I can navigate to the /media/nss/GROUPWISE volume and see all the files, and Groupwise is still working fine. I can not administer Groupwise and add users from Console one, and my backup uses the unc path to backup databases, which is not accessible. Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated!!

Can you give some more detail on the server itself... is it running physical or virtual? Have there been changes to the disk configuration (adding/removing/expanding) or other while keeping the server online?
Also, does your colleague have a little more description to what was acting funny? Or was it just slow at times?

No there have been no changes to the disks or server at all. It is a physical server, not virtual. As for certificates, when I removed edirectory, I deleted everything in the OU dealing with the server, and assume that when edir was added back it created new certs. I did however go through iManager and repair default certs there, telling it to overwrite all certs. The only other Certs I have not touched is the CA for the tree, however I have other servers running NSS volumes and they are fine. Also noticed that the pools and volumes for this server are NOT in edir, and with out iManager, or nssmu, I am not sure of how to update edir with volume information, and not sure if that is the problem. and Last, unfortunately, no my colleague has given me very little information on what was going on.

    What John said ... and additionally, though these are user-to-user forums, some of their staffers do pop in here (on their own time, we so appreciate it when they do!) and so between the bug/wish-form requests that John linked to, staffers do monitor what goes onto the boards here. And they do fix a ton of things on a constant basis. Every problem that every individual user has? No.
    But with the incredibly complicated software they've created to give us the inter-operability betwixt an ingestion program (Prelude), an NLE (PrPro), a grading program (Speedgrade), an effects program (AeFx), an audio-effects program (Audition), and an out-put rendering program (AME) ... there are unfortunately times when bits & pieces of software between the OS, programs & plugins, video cards & drivers, and add-on or separate modification programs (such as Plural Eyes for instance) can conflict with each other. Some problems have been incredibly difficult for their staffers to duplicate ... and often, until they can duplicate a particular set of complex circumstances they can't see exactly what went wrong in that case ... and understand why it happens ONLY with that specific set of 500 possible variables and no others.
    Some of the re-current problems on here are shared by quite a number of people ... and many of the problems only occur in very rare circumstances ... it takes precisely the right mix of loaded programs, footage, working steps, and hardware for that problem to exist. While that situation is of course incredibly annoying and oft infuriating to those few that have that problem ... by it's very nature, not many do have that problem. So you will hear of it on the boards here in far greater numbers than it occurs as a percentage of the user base.
    And that btw is a given on a user complaint forum, which for most people is what this place is. Past some of us who use it for a learning "facility" not many jump on here unless they've got a problem or complaint. It most people are happy &/simply functioning, they don't post here.

        Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
         Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow
         instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

    You can't. There is no memory card. It uses flash memory that's soldered to the logic board. If you didn't back it up, your data is gone.

    Because I can't delete the icloud account, I keep getting view terms to accept and it wants to go to the old company account.  I can't do anything to get rid of this - when I try to delete the icloud it wants me to delete find my ipad and asks for the old co. id and password - it's a vicious circle and i just want to get rid of it and start fresh with my regular personal email id and password!!!  Help!

    You will need that old Apple ID and password, which does indeed still exist. Apple doesn't delete Apple IDs, though if this ID was in the control of your company they may have changed the password. If so, you will need your former company to log into the iCloud account using that ID and password and erase the iPad or remove it from iCloud:

    Until that's done you cannot change those settings, and if you try to restore the iPad will have it locked with Activation Lock and thereafter be unusable.

    Downgrading the iOS is not supported, and likely has caused the problems you are experiencing.
    You'll need to go elsewhere for support.

  • TS1398 bought a mini and also have an IPAD2  have used ITunes to download all programs to the mini but have NOT BEEN ABLE TO have the connection to the Internet and CAN NOT get any emails. I NEED HELP!!!!!!!

    I thought when I bought a MINI that all I'd need to do is sync up with ITunes to get all apps and setting to the Mini. I was wrong as I can not connnect to the internet and can not get any emails. Have tried just about all suggestions under support  but need to reach out to actual users who may have run into similar prblem. I must be missing something as I have to believe that Apple would make it as simple/easy as possible to connect to the interne. I still have my internet connect with my Ipad2.
    appreciate any help on this one as MY WIFE is driving me crazy as she wants to use the internet with HER MINI!!!

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

    I suspect you have the original, 1G iPod touch. Those can only go as high as iOS 3.1.3,
    If y ohave a 2G those can go as high as 4.2.1

    Depends on what you're doing; SL doesn't really support Office docs directly. In Snow Leopard, TextEdit can open Word docs, albeit with little fidelity for anything beyond text. Try iWork if you need to really work with Word docs (note that even then it's an import/export process and not native support).

    I do not know how to do this with an Apple TV (I don't have one), but as far as I know Apple TV only does mirroring.
    If you have an HDMI cable long enough to reach your TV from where you sit, then it's easy. The TV could be set up in Extended Desktop mode (mirroring off) as if it was simply another computer monitor, and then you could just drag windows to it. If you have the Displays icon in your menu bar, that's where the setting is, or if the icon is not there, then the setting is in the Displays system preference. But again, that's for conventionally connected monitors, not Apple TV. If you don't have an HDMI cable and wanted a long one that's affordable you can get those at monoprice.com.
    The answer we are still waiting for is if anyone knows if Apple TV can be used in extended desktop (non-mirroring) mode.

    PowerPC is the processor that Apple used prior to switching to Intel. It is a very old version of Apple for which support has been dropped.
    It is not Windows which is what BootCamp will allow you to install.

    No worries. Often after iTunes updates you have to reconnect your device in order for iTunes to see it. Happens to me all the time!
