NSS2000 anonymousftp

I setup anonymousftp share on my nss2000, I can upload files to it as anonymous, but I cannot delete anything.  I create a username, give it read/write access to this share.  I connect to the CIFS share using this user.  I see the incoming directory, but I do not have any access to the files or directories that were uploaded using the anonymous login.  I get permission denied.
How do I manage the files in this directory?

The anonymous user will not have access to delete files becasue we would not want just anyone to just delete all of the files located in our ftp server. You can manage the share locally via CIFS with the admin account for the NSS. Just log in to the share using the admin credentials and you will be able to manage it with no porblems.
Let us know if that does not work out.

  • NSS2000 interface problem

    Hi All,
I have a strange problem with nss2000 web interface: when I try to login to the NAS from any browser (IE or Firefox), the web interface is extremely slow and sometimes I need to refresh browser page after login to see the web interface. Does anyone have the same problem?
    Thank you!
    Bye.

This issue is not with the NAS, it is with the changes from browsers. It is common very slow to access to many devices to work with broswers before IE 8 or Firefox 3.5.X. There are competitive market for browser to make it works much faster, mainly between Firefox and IE.  IE 8 and later version of Firefox broswers are sending large number of http connections (8 http connections) to query the data to any devices (NSS is one of them) for display data on the browsers. The more http connections simultanousely, the faster data will be displayed.  Because NSS limited number of connections of http at a time ( 4 http connections), the browser thinks it has not done with query the data and lkeep trying. User think it the NAS but it is not. Any browser version before IE 8 or firefox 3.5.X are working fine. It is the incompatible resources from later version of browsers to resources reserved in the NSS.
I believe, this issue is across the networking community for small devices with Web GUI interface, particularly for user who is using the latest browsers.
    The work around is:
    1. When access to NSS, give it 2 seconds. Move the mouse cursor at the end of the URL. click "Enter" on the keyboard for data display.
    2. Use IE 7 or previous firefox version before 3.5.0
    3. Use Safari or Google broswer as different browser to access to NSS GUI. Cisco is not official supported these browsers, but they are working fine.
Maintenance release: There is a fix to allocated more resources from the NSS to handle these new number of http connections  requested from browser. We are working to address this issue so user can use any version of the browser.

  • NSS2000 WAN/VPN Connectivity

We have a user that connects to the network over a VPN tunnel.  They cannot access the NSS2000.  The gateway is correct.  Disable WAN access is not checked.  Default network policy is allow traffic with no filters.
    Anyone have any ideas?

The MS SBS2003 is behind a combo router/firewall.
The VPN connect to the router/firewall first, gets forwarded to the SBS2003.
The VPN user has full access on the SBS2003 server, everything works.
They just can't connect to the NSS6000.
In the NSS6000, I checked the users and the domain users show up properly. So does the Domain Groups.
    We've tried login using: user
                                       domain\user
                                       user@domain
                                       xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\user
We are able to ping the nss6000 (from the vpn user), it responds with no issue.
It just won't let us get access to it.
    ------Update on problem------
The share is setup as a CIFS and users are AD users.
So for further testing, I created a local user and group and assigned them to the share. (Still no go)
I then modified the share and made it CIFS, NFS and FTP. I enabled both NFS and FTP. (Still no go)
However, I've been able to FTP into the nss 6000. (This is forward movement)
Both as the domain\user and the local\user.
Since I can ping and ftp into the nss6000, I know it is not hidden to the vpn users.
So the question becomes this: Why does the NSS 6000 refuse to give access to the CIFS share to my domain users that have valid access?
What is wrong with this Equipment?

  • NSS2000 - Data transfer speeds over gigabit ethernet

I've just installed a NSS2000 on a gigabit network.  I'm aware that some of the promised features (like support for jumbo frames) are not currently supported by the current firmware (version 1.13).
However, even without jumbo frames, I'm puzzled of why I am seeing data transfer speeds of only 50megabits per second, or about 5% utilization of the 1000Mb/s connection.  I was expecting at least 20% utilization.
Is this another limitation of the current firmware version, or is there a setting somewhere on the NSS2000 which I need to to tweak to increase data transfer speeds?
More background - it is the only significant traffic on the network during test, the ethernet controller driver on my PC is the latest available, and the NSS reports that it is connected at 1000MB/sec.  The unit has two 1.5Tb SATA drives in it, which are configuered as RAID1.
Also - does anyone know when the next firmware version is going to be available, and which of the current known issues it is likely to address?
    thanks
    Graham

I should mention that the volume I am writing to is encrypted - is the answer simply that this is the fastest that the onboard CPU can decrypt the content?
An experiment to an unencrypted volume increased the LAN utilization to around 10% - so an improvement, but still not as high as I had hoped.
    thanks

  • NSS2000 and NSS4000 refusing connections.

    Greetings to everyone.
I have installed a NSS2000 and a NSS4000 in 2 different companies and transfered all their files into them. I'm having the same exact problem in both cases. Both companies have an ADS and there are about 10-15 PCs/users. Both NSSs have joined the domains and the setup is CIFS with the appropriate rights for users and folders. Specifically, in one of the two companies, there are only 2 folders shared (with many subfolders) with public rights for everyone. The problem is that, once a day or every two days, any connection to the shared folders is refused to the users and the only solution is to pull the plug and put it back again! During this connection refusal, I can ping the NSSs but can't access them through the web interface. When I examine the log files afterwards, they have logs after the powercycle, so I can't have any valuable information. Both NSSs have been upgraded with the latest firmware, twice. As I can imagine, the problem occurs when a number of concurrent sessions happens. I have read every discussion I could find in the support forum and tried almost everything. There is also a user in this forum that has (as far as I understand) the same problem with me, but didn't get any response. I have tried changing the CIFS timeout from 5 minutes to never to 2 minutes, with the same outcome. Tried rejoining the domain and played with almost every setting there is on this 2 boxes. No, improvement at all. I think I have reached a dead end and I'm really frustrated because my customers feel frustrated at the solution I proposed to them.
Any suggestion would be very helpful, because as long the problems exists, I can no longer suggest this boxes for any future buy.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Error joining to ADS domain - NSS2000

    Hi,
I have been trying to join a Cisco NSS2000 device to a Windows Server 2008 based active directory and each time that I try to join I see a window with the error "error joining to ADS domain" and "Join to domain is not valid".  I know the credentials I am using are valid and have domain admin rights.  The appliance is also using the DC as an NTP source and I have confirmed the clocks are synced.
Looking in the CIFS logs I can see the following entries.
Feb 8 14:06:38 NAS01 winbindd[4525]: Could not fetch sid for our domain MYDOMAIN
    Feb 8 14:10:07 NAS01 winbindd[4525]: [2010/02/08 14:10:07, 1] nsswitch/winbindd_ads.c:ads_cached_connection(81)

Feb 8 14:15:08 NAS01 winbindd[4525]: ads_connect for domain MYDOMAIN failed: Cannot read password
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can successfully join this box to my domain?
    Thanks

I think I may have answered my own question - I am currently running v1.13 of the firmware and the release notes for this indicate it is not compatible. v1.16 being downloaded now which will hopefuly the resolve the issue.

  • NSS2000 lost shares.... again

Some time ago it looked that my NSS2000 was empty, even though the nss didn't mention any problems. Just to make sure, I replaced both disks and started all over.
At this point, I am glad that I didn't throw away those disks because now, at this moment, with the new disks, I'm having the same problem again. They are now in the nss for about 6 months.
Even though the nas tells me it is for 25% used, the shares are all gone and after reading other posts, there is still no solution given on this community.
I allready tried to add a new share, like it is mentioned as a possible solution in another post. This doesn't work because the nas tells me that there is't any room left for a new share. "No space left on volume to create share".
I sold two of these nss2000 machines to professional clients and they (and I) can't afford losing their data, so please give a solution on how the data on the disks can be visible again.
    Hope someone can help.
    Wim

    Hi Wilhelm,
I am having the same problem. Or very similar.  And, no, I don't have a solutions.  Same as you, looked everywhere without any luck. Cisco, lets just say that I have nothing good to say about their: NAS, routers, switches, or even, their customer service... nothing good to say of anything cisco.
As for your data, it will still be there.  But, surely, there will be downtime and lots of work getting it back and operational as you had it. This is also my problem.  I don't need or what to go thru the 'recovery' exercise as I mention on the post https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/4012351#4012351
Doing this, means having another set of disks of same or greater capacity to copy files over to, then rebuild the NSS, its shares, its users (maybe you have a config backup).  And then copy files over again.
1_ lots of time required, as TBs of files don't copy over in minutes, not even hours; possibly days depending on the speed of your computers.
2_ The one time I did this, I then had issues on some files/directories permisions.
    Hope this helps.
If you found a solution, quicker than what I say here.  Please, pass it on to me.
    Thanks!

    Hi Angus,
Policy Server does not require a specific LDAP schema. During configuration you simply map the LDAP attributes of your schema to the ones that Policy Server supports (e.g., common name, email address, etc).
If you are configuring Policy Server to use an LDAP, it will use the LDAP to authenticate the user (Policy Server does not store the password itself in this case).
If passwords are stored outside of the LDAP (e.g., in a database), it is possible to write a custom authentication provider to authenticate against this source.
    Hope this helps,

Issue: After installing the hard  drive onto the hard drive tray, the tray will not longer fit into the  Smart Storage hard disk drive slot.

  • FTP File Sharing

Howdy. I do produce video and audio for people. I am doing a project now where the clients dont even live in the same town or state. I would like to have a Mac Mini set up in the future where i can put the file on the hard drive and then send a link in an email to the client and then have a link or instructions on there to tell them how to get to the file they are supposed to get. That way i can send multi gig files to them and they can down load them on their own time and i dont have to waste discs and postage mailing things over night. I would need something where they can not acess any of the other files for other clients on there only the ones for them. Does anybody know of such a software or how to do it. I am needing something similar to a Digidelivery server made by Digidesign. http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=38&langid=100& Thanks for the help.

  • Concurrent users unable to open a shared Microsoft Access MDB database

I have a share on a Cisco NSS2000, the NSS is in Workgroup mode (Firmware 1.13).
Every user have read/write rights on this share.
When I try to open an access MDB database from this share it happens that only a single user at time can open the database.
The second user that try to open the database get a "Cannot lock file" error message.
So, when a user has the Access DB opened, no-one other can open (or connect to) the same DB.
It's impossible to open the DB using the access IDE ("Cannot lock file" error message).
It's impossible to make multiple connection to the DB using OleDB ("Cannot lock file" error message).
I've tried give full access to the mdb file.
I've tried give full access to the mdb folder.
I've even tried to give full access to the temporary LDB file.
I always get the same error message.
    Is there a workaround?

  • NSS6000 "Firmware Update Error: The firmware image file is corrupt."

    Hello All,
I've recently run into a problem trying to update the firmware on our NSS6000 to either 1.20.1 or 1.21.0.  We are currently running 1.16-3.
Each time after I click "Upgrade Firmware", the upgrade fails with the same error:  "Firmware Update Error: The firmware image file is corrupt.  Obtain another copy of the file and try the firmware upgrade again".
I've tried re-downloading the NSS6000_FW_1.20.1.tar.gz and NSS6000_FW_1.21.0.tar.gz several times from multiple PCs, and using multiple browsers.  I've tried several combinations of Windows Server 2003R2, Windows Server 2008R2, Windows 7, and Firefox, Chrome, and IE 8/9.
The downloads all appear to be fine, and they all can open/extract with 7-zip without issue.  The file sizes are always the same.
No combination of OS/Browser yields a different result on the upgrade attempt either.
I tried renaming NSS6000_FW_1.21.0.tar.gz to NSS6000_fwupgrade_0121.tar.gz to match the convention used in early versions (thinking that the extra "."'s could be the issue) but no luck either.
I was able to successfully re-apply the NSS6000_fwupgrade_0116.tar.gz firmware without any issues at all.
A strange thing I noticed, though, was on the "The system will reboot now. Please close your browser." window, it shows the device as an "NSS2000 2-Bay Gigabit Network Storage System" (please see attached screenshot).  I'm chalking that up to a simple reusing-the-same-web-code issue rather than the root of the problem, but thought I should mention that as well.
Has anyone else run into this issue, or have any suggestions for workarounds in order to successfully upgrade the FW on this device?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi,
Not sure what is going on i haven't see the issue you are having, can you try downloading both images at a different location; instead of behind your router. Also upgrade to .20 and then .21. Im pasting the release notes upgrades step.
When upgrading the firmware from v1.12 to v1.14, v1.12 to v1.20.1, or v1.12 to
v1.21.0 the Configuration GUI displays a "Programming images.." message
for more than 12 minutes (the time it takes to upgrade the firmware is
    usually 5 to 10 minutes).
The workaround is to wait at least 15 minutes to complete the upgrade and
then power cycle the NSS by removing the power cord. Do not try and
access the Configuration GUI during this time. (CSCsx17923) When upgrading the firmware from v1.12 to v1.14, v1.12 to v1.20.1, or v1.12 to
