NT Server Reboot and Forte Partitions
I have a system administration question for users with NT servers in
their Forte environment. If I have installed Forte partitions on an NT
server which I would like to startup when the server is rebooted, then
what are my options for scripting this to happen automatically?
Currently the only Forte process on the server which starts up
automatically is the Forte node manager, through the installed NT
service. I have been contemplating setting up a BAT file process as an
NT service which would wait for the Forte node manager service to start,
and then execute an fscript file to start the required forte partitions.
How is this situation being handled in other environments? Thanks.

Hi Brad,
I am not sure if this is the right solution in the long run, but if you
login into NT after reebot you can create a simple client that "pings" your
service objects and put the shortcut into the Startup Group. I think such a
client may also be useful to monitor your Forte server for application
specific parameters, instead of relying only on logs/econsole.

RE: NT Server Reboot and Forte Partitions[Ref:C943460]
Hi Bradley.
At our customers, we need one of our Forte applications to be running for data
communications to take place. After a reboot, we need this application's
partitions to come online. The way we did this (as you suggested) was to use a
BAT file, and then install this as an NT service (we used a utility that comes
with the NT resource kit - srvany).
This works fine for us. One of the issues we had was that the partitions tried
to come online before Oracle was running - this resulted in the dbsessions
failing and the partitions not coming online. We got round this by preceding
starting the partitions with a loop that polled Oracle until it was up. Needless
to say, piping all output to log files was essential for us to figure out what
was going on.
Hope this helps,

Server reboot and Oracle shutdown.
First, thanks for helps about my CAN'T ADD DATAFILE INTO TABLESPACE which was posted in July.
Our university Oracle technical support team said that, the reason that we can't new datafile into tablespace is: the database is corrupt, some blocks corrupted.
The reason why the database corrupted is that: we don't shutdown Oracel before we reboot our database server.
Our database server is Windows Server 2003. Oracle is Enterprise Edition Release, 10g, 10.1.0.2.
Is this statement correct: before to shutdown the database server (in our case, Windows Server), the Oracle instance or Oracle needs to be shutdown first?
If the above statement is true, will the database corrupt if we don't follow the above statement?
Thanks,That probably is not the reason why it was corrupt (although it is Windows).
How often do you restart your database server? is it on a frequency or only when absolutely needed (installing Microsoft patches and getting the message "you must restart your system .... ").
It is a good practice to shutdown cleanly the database before powerdown. At the very least change the setting of ORA_<your_sid_here>SHUTDOWNTIMEOUT registry key to something more appropriate. The default is probably not good. -
NFS: server reboot - client problem with "file handle" - no unmont
Hello,
when I restart a NFS-server and a client has a NFS-share on it still mounted, that NFS-share becomes unusable on the client: everything causes the client complain about an old "file handle", even trying to unmount that share!
So my question is: How to deal gracefully with a NFS-server reboot and avoiding this file handle problem?
Apart from going to each client and unmount the NFS-share by hand?
Thanks!Do I need to Give these values manually again as they are moved from Env to other?
When we transport ID objects, the values stored in the channel get lost and have to be manually enetered......it happens even for DEV --> QA environment.
Now your channel should reflect PROD-related data.
2- Why my Receiver communiation channel coimg as
Communication Channel | PRD_400 | RFC_QA3_Receiver:
The channel name does not depend on the environment it is present....verify the name once again!

Hello.
I have a problem with OEL 6.5 and ocfs2.
When I mount ocfs2 with mount -a command all ocfs2 partitions mount and work, but when I reboot no ocfs2 partitions auto mount. No error messages in log. I use DAS FC and iSCSI FC.

Thank you for your question.
This error was caused by the incorrect site binding, I will give a reference of my test Lab. We add two A records in DNS which the FQDN of CAS and Mailbox could resolve IP address.;

AV Agent and OS Collector after server reboot
We are using Oracle AV Server and AV Agent on version 10.2.0.3.2 with Bundle Patch #1.
If the target server reboots, both AV agent and OS Aud collector does not come up automatically ?
Is that a normal behavior ? or we have to do some modifications to get it automatically started.
Appreciate your guidance.
Thanks,
ViralYou could put it as a startup script, but there isn't anything already written. I call a cron script every hour to make sure that the collectors and agent is up. We had to setup trusted connections from the avagent -> avserver to start the collectors:

Exportfs on nfs server causes server fence and reboots OVM3 server
Hi,
I am using OVM 3.1.1 manager and and same version ovm servers. I have a single server pool with four nodes. My server repository and pool file system are shared from two different NFS servers, and accessed using the back-end interface which is bonded on all Dom0s. When I do 'exportfs -ra' or 'service nfs reload' on the NFS server with the pool file system, two of my four servers immediately fence and reboot. It does it pretty consistently, I can recreate it every time. It just seem to reboot different servers from the pool. The NFS server with repository does not produce the same result after doing the same nfs refresh commands.
The system log doesn't seem to catch any meaningful messages before the reboot. The o2cb parameters in /etc/sysconfig/o2cb are:
O2CB_IDLE_TIMEOUT_MS=60000
O2CB_HEARTBEAT_THRESHOLD=31
O2CB_RECONNECT_DELAY_MS=2000
O2CB_ENABLED=true
O2CB_STACK=o2cb
O2CB_KEEPALIVE_DELAY_MS=2000
O2CB_BOOTCLUSTER=618edbaefe604e5a
I appreciate any help to resolve this issue.
Thanks.Is your cluster filesystem on NFS?
I'd bump up your O2CB_HEARTBEAT_THRESHOLD to either 61 or 91. In OVM 3.2.1, the default has been upped to 61. We're running at 91. My guess is the exportfs is causing NFS to restart, which makes your cluster filesystem vanish for a bit, which causes the fencing and rebooting.
OVM sure is fun...
I'd also strongly suggest you log an SR.

Capture and redeploy Server 2003 with 2 partitions?
We have an old server than was installed many years ago and the people who set it up at the time partitioned the drive into C and D partitions with the C drive too small to allow for future growth. Now there is a large software package that requires
a service pack and there isn't enough room to complete the service pack installation. Not sure why the large application was installed on the small C drive to begin with. It is very complicated and slow (days long on the slow server) to reinstall
the application, so they want to avoid an uninstall and reinstall of the software.
So far, we have only used MDT 2012 to deploy Windows 7.
Is it possible to use MDT to capture both partitions of this Server 2003 machine, keeping the drivers, then do a deployment task that partitions the drives with a larger C partition and redeploys the captured image back to both new partitions?
Also since it is not being "cloned," but rather copied back to the same hardware, we do not want sysprep to be part of the process. We want it to deploy back exactly the way it was and installed still joined to the domain with the same SID.
If so, what additional steps and command syntax are required to capture and redeploy a multipartition image?
Is there a better way to do this other than capturing and redeploying such as reliable software that can repartition a running Windows 2003 server?*THIS* is why I don't recommend creating large 2nd partitions on disk 0 (not talking about small recovery and/or Bitlocker boot patitions). Partition Fragmentation. :^)
There may be some 3rd party tools out that could help (partition magic)? I wouldn't know, haven't really used them
Best solution is to add a 2nd drive, migrate drive d: to the new disk, delete the 2nd partition, and expand the C: drive. All supported with in box tools.
Do you have this problem on *multiple* machines, or just one?
If just one, then boot to WinPE, archive the 2nd partition to external USB, delete the 2nd partition, extend the 1st c: partition to the new desired size, re-create the 2nd partition, and copy the files back.

Hello all,
We are fairly new to UCS, but are hooked for sure. We started purchasing B series blades, chassises, and FI's at first, and now are in the process of deploying C-Series Servers. Very cool stuff, then does Cisco takes some of it away, maybe?
We just purchased a C240, and noticed the FlexFlash card. After initial reading we see that you can have a Server Configuration Utility (SCU), Host Update Utility (HUU), and Drivers Partitions on the FlexFlash. Along with a 4th HyperVisor (HV) partition, which started this journey for us as we are going to install ESXi onto the FlexFlash.
But by the time we got to reading about and managing FlexFlash, we had already upgraded the CIMC & Bios to 2.0(1)b. We only see the one large ~16GB HV partition, and with SCU 4.0 there isn't much you can do about that. After reading the release notes for CIMC 2.0, we read:
Starting with this version, the SD storage device is available to Cisco IMC as a single hypervisor (HV) partition configuration. Prior versions had four virtual USB drives.
So does this mean that after CIMC 2.0, SCU, HUU, and Driver Partitions are unsupported on FlexFlash? Or is there a process to get these utilities back on FlexFlash? Because the documentation does not really make it clear one way or the other. It would seem to be a nice feature, but i would also understand why the reasons not to support it. As I'm sure the HUU updates just as fast as firmware.
Thanks for your time and support,
NickThis is very confusing. Just received our first c-class server (220m3) with sd card preinstalled, and reading the online docs about the scu and huu partitions. Great feature! Could not see the partitions in CIMC and believed the sd-card was empty and needed to be initialized.
Followed the flexflash docs to get the card up and running:
http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/solutions/collateral/data-center-virtualization/unified-computing/whitepaper_C11-718938.pdf
Having spent one entire day getting the SD card to work as documented.
Now, after reading this thread, I'm even more confused (and a little frustrated) - and would really like at least the scu to be bootable from the card.
The experiences here are:
1. Booting downloaded iso image SCU via kvm (virtual image)
2. Configure network - dhcp does not work.. (tried earlier SCU, there dhcp does work.. but no update-icon...). Configures manually then.
3. After network is configured, either manually or dhcp - the Update flexflash icon disappeares..
Hitting the Update flexflash icon (after new reboot, without configuring network), a window appear with empty content. DOH.
Booting all day trying different cisco manuals and approaches to get this to work, waiting for the long boot process each time.
I would recommend that the cisco documents online are revised so we don't need to run through loops and endless cisco-pdf-redirections for nothing.
Cheers,

Help concerning grup and lvm partitions after installation
Hello, I just recently installed arch-linux according to this installation guide:
https://wiki.archlinux.de/title/UEFI_Installation
Therefore I decided to use the following partitions:
/dev/sda1 -> 1GB EFI boot
/dev/sda2 -> swap
/dev/sda3 -> split up to 2 partitions via lvm for /boot/ and /home as described in the guide.
then I installed the UEFI grup without any errors and after reboot it did not work:
I got the following errors:
hwdb.bin does not exist, please run udevadm hwdb --update
ERROR: device 'UUID=...' not found
ERROR: Unable to find root device 'UUID=...'
and an emergency shell appeared..
Well first I thought of my fstab, but all partitions are mentioned there correctly.
Then I looked the errors up in the internet and tried to reinstall mkinitcpio as well as a reuse of: mkinitcpio -p linux
Nothing happened, still the same.
I only followed the steps mentioned in the installation guide and before reboot everything looked pretty good.
Does grub maybe interfier with lvm ?
In a nutshell, I have no single clue why it does not work, so hopefully one of you knows why
Thanks already
Last edited by archr00t (2014-11-15 20:55:02)Hello there,
1. You have a UEFI system. As such, the UEFI partition (/dev/sda1) serves as your boot partition (e.g. mounted at /boot or /boot/efi). You don't need to create another one on top of that! That would be a big part of your problem.
2. Your extra /boot partition is also LVM, which UEFI cannot handle. For UEFI systems, there must therefore be a seperate boot partition, and it CANNOT be LVM. Root, Home, and Swap are fine, but not the UEFI (i.e. /boot) partition.
3. Even if it were a BIOS system, you also need to manually edit the grub configuration file to sucessfully boot where /boot is LVM. -

now post the activity , we are trying to bring up the instances but whenever one comes up the other goes down.

DNS Issues - Can ping server name and IPs but not FQDNs.
Hi All,
Hopefully some one can help me here, I am having an issue where one of my domain attached servers cannot ping any FQDNs in the environment but it can ping the host names and the IPs and look up the host names from a reverse look up.
We have done the following troubleshooting:
Flushed and registered DNS cache.
Restarted the DNS client and net logon services on the effected server
Preformed standard checks and commands such as:
Checked the event logs and found there were warnings for DNS registration.
Compared the DNS settings in the network adapters across the rest of the servers in the environment and found that they were all the same. DNS Suffixes are added in the correct order and are set to register.
Pinging FQDNs which is not giving any results.
Tracert FQDNs which is also not giving any results.
Nslookup which is querying the DNS server directly and giving results as expected
Ran the command which reported successful: dcdiag /test:registerindns /dnsdomain:sub.domain.net /v
Checked and updated the permissions on DNS for the affected server to give the server full control of its own DNS entry.
Replaced the DNS Client service DLL with one from a server that is working as expected.
Also worth noting is that the affected server (as well as every other server in the environment) has 2 NICs, one that communicates with DNS and AD and the other does not have any DNS IPs set.
Not this is not the first time this happened, a reboot fixed the issue before but it seems to be a reoccurring problem now.
If any one can shed some light on this issue I would be grateful.
Regards,
Steve.Hi Steve,
First, we should confirm if this issue is caused by DNS.
When you ping the FQDN, does the server show the correct corresponding IP address?
If no, there should be some error messages. If it is possible, please post the screenshot of this issue.
To check the process about how does server resolve the FQDN, please follow the steps below:
clear local DNS cache with command ipconfig /flushdns
perform the network capture
ping the specified FQDN
Check the DNS traffic
To download Network Monitor, please click the link below:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=4865
Besides, have you tried to update the NIC driver to the latest version?
Best Regards.
