NTFS for Mac
How do i read & write files from a NTFS format Hard Disk.
Read the last paragraph in this knowledge base article. With some Mac OS X versions you can read NTFS formatted disks it is not recommended...there have been limited/mixed results in trying to write to NTFS disks by other users.

Paragon NTFS for MAC vs HFS for Windows?
Hey fellas!
Which of these 2 would you say it makes more sense to have in a bootcamp environment with a drive exclusively for data storage:
NTFS for MAC or HFS for Windows?
My setup is drive 1 for both OSs, MAC and WINDOWS, and drive 2 would be then formatted in HFS or NTFS, for putting files and data which I'd use CONSTANTLY to share between the 2 OSs.
What do you think?Actually I really wanted to use exFat, but I'm afraid of the so-called lack of overall reliability (when compared to NTFS) and worse, the usual compatibility issues I've heard about between OSX and exFat. I'll be storing important files, work related stuff.
Do you know anything about that?
Otherwise I think I'll go with NTFS... -
I purchased a 3TB HDD (WD USB 3.0 $100) to replace the 2TB Seagate for a new Time Machine HDD. The 2B was full and backups were deleting older files. The 3TB was formatted NTFS and I want to "recover" the included SW before I reformatted the HDD for the iMac. I discovered that MacFuse was out of date and unsupported and my NTFS-32 was also out of date so I uninstalled both and then installed the most recent version of Tuxera NTFS for Mac. I rebooted and discovered that the FW800 port was unresponsive. Below is the EtreCheck report:
Problem description:
Firewire does not function after uninstalling macfuse and an out of date version of NTFS32 and then installed Tuxera NTFS for Mac.

NTFS for Mac Paragon - Mavericks - trash support?
So i've installed NTFS for Mac from Paragon on my Mac Pro, and it works well.
I've got my Lightroom catalog exported on this NTFS partition of a 3TB hard drive, and I can view all files both on Windows and Mavericks.
The only issue now, is that when i delete something, it gets deleted straight away without going to the trash first. Is there a way to make Mavericks add native trash support to this hard drive?
Thanks! The Trash is a complex illusion provided your your benefit.
When you Trash a File, it is marked as "In the trash" but is not actually moved at all. Thus the contents of the Trash could be on multiple drives using multiple File Systems -- it gets complicated in a hurry. And emptying the Trash can get Very complicated.
I have observed that when working with a Mac OS X Server 10.6.8, I often get the "... will be deleted immediately" message when deleting Server files directly. You may be seeing the same thing for essentially the same reason -- in some cases it just gets too complicated to keep up the illusion of a uniform Trash across multiple File Systems on multiple drives, some of which may also be Shared. -
I had a white screen issue twice recently and freaked out. I got everything back but worried now that my imac will crash and I will lose
all my files/pictures. I purchased an external hard drive, a Toshiba Canvio 3.0 Plus with 1TB to install to backup my files. I went to
install it and it says that for Mac you must install Tuxera NTFS for Mac.dmg, which says it enables read/write support for the NTFS
partition on your Mac. Is this a good way to back of files on a Mac? If not what is better? Is there an Apple product for back up?
Please help I am clueless and worried about the dreaded white screen!sketchgirl wrote:

Depending on whether you need to use this as a boot drive and what model iMac you have (PPC or Intel) you will need to reformat the drive as a GUID or APS drive with Disk Utility. OSX Tips: Using Disk Utility: Format, Erase, or Reformat a Drive -
Does Paragon NTFS for Mac work with SL?
NTFS for Mac is just the job when writing to our work Windows server via VPN from my mac at home. It enables full write access to NTFS volumes from inside OSX. I have posted a q with Paragon as to whether their product (I run 7.0.1 which is the current one) works ok with SL but no reply so far. Anyone actually tried to use it and did it work? Thanks.
Just a warning, however: it doesn't work as well. I've had several crashes when I attempted to edit an already saved transaction (no data lost, apparently, besides the changed transaction), and frequently the header with all the account buttons, etc. will not appear when waking the computer (2007 Intel MacBook Pro) up from a long sleep. Annoying, but not fatal. At least Intuit hasn't totally given up on the Mac world.

Has anyone has experience with Tuxera NTFS for Mac?
Is Tuxera NTFS for Mac always uses uper 30% of CPU? I'm not sure if it's just my mind but my Mac runs quite hot. I wonder if it has anything to do with the tuxera_ntfs process that runs upper 30% to 50%. Is there a utility tool I can run to show me the termperation of this Macbook Air and whether the fan is high or low? Is there a way to manually run a process only when I need it instead of set to automatic launch when the computer is turned on?
LCMan wrote:
Okay, I removed tuxera_ntfs from the System Preferences but it's still running. So, how do I totally remove this thing out of my Mac Air?
Check the support section on the Tuxera web site. I have never used this application.
FAT has 4GB size limitation that's why I do not want to use FAT.
Understood. I am not challenging you, but usually an internal HDD is not formatted for Mac and Windows, external ones are. I am curious as to your reasons.

What do I need to do to be able to read and write files to a Seagate Backup Plus Slim Portable Drive on BOTH a Mac and a PC? I downloaded "Paragon NTFS for Mac" onto my Mac, so now I can write to the drive, but when I plug it into a PC it won't work.
If the HDD is formatted NTFS, then it suggests that there is a problem with the PC. Check with the manufacturer.

i am not able to use parogan NTFS for Mac OS. it was pre installed. can anyone help?
Current version is 10. As Peck has provided, it does not come pre-installed. You or someone had to purchase it:

so mac doesn't have write capabilities on ntfs? and pc can't read something more than 2gb on fat32? how do i get a 15gb file from my mac onto my pc? should i just buy a big enough thumb drive? i've got a usb 150gb hard drive, so i'd like to use that instead. does macdrive solve this issue?
Hi Jeremy,
A few options...
You could format that HDD as Fat32/MS-DOS, but you'd be limited to 4 GB Filesizes.

Formatting LaCie External Hard Drive for MAC and PC
Hi,
I just recently purchased a LaCie 500 GB Hard Drive from the Apple Store in order to back up and store most of my PC (Window) files. Most of my files that I need to back up are on CD, DVD, and USB mini drives. I was thinking of transferring the files through my MacBook Pro but I'm not sure how to partition the hard drive, since most of my files are generated from PC's and I would need to connect the hard drive to a PC in the future anyway.
From what I understand, the files that I save in the Windows partition will only be recognized when on a PC, and the same for the MAC. But what about simple compatible files that are read cross platform, such as Word documents? Would I still only be able to access each file depending on the platform and the partition?
Is there a way that I can just partition it into a single storage space – as how servers store data, regardless of whether it’s a PC or MAC file? I’m also wondering what would happen if I were to plug it into my laptop first? If it doesn’t ask me to partition the drive on my PC, will it ask me when I plug it back into the MAC afterwards? And if I partition it then, what would happen to my data?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank youHi, njoay
I just moved to Mac from Windows last week onto a new MBP. I purchased a Lacie 500GB ruggedized drive. Here is what I know and tried:
1) If you format the Lacie in Mac format, then you can't use it on a Windows machine without software eg MacDrive.
2) If you format the Lacie in NTFS, you can only read from it when connected to Mac without other software.
I work a lot with VMWare, so I need the LACIE to be able to connect to both PC and MAC. I found a solution from another MAC user: "Paragon NTFS for Mac OS" (see http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/) which you can purchase for US$39.
This is what I did:
1) connect my Lacie to my PC and formatted it in NTFS format.
2) Installed Paragon NTFS onto my MAC
3) Connected LACIE to Mac.
Here are the results:
1) Connection with USB2.0 from Lacie to Mac - it works (can read and write to LAcie formatted in NTFS)
2) Connection with Firewire 800 from Lacie to Mac - it does NOT work. The disk gets ejected. I have logged a support call with Paragon on this issue and am waiting a reply.
3) Connection with Firewire 400 from Lacie to Mac - have not tried it yet.
Hope the above helps. -
How to Format Toshiba Hard-Drive for Mac with Parallels?
Hello,
I recently bought a Toshiba Hard-Drive with the following features:
500GB
It is a Canivo Basics 3.0
It is USB 3.0 and 2.0 portable hard drive
It has already been formatted NTFS for Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8
The box says that it can be reformatted for Mac
I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display that I bought this year in late March/early April.
It runs OS X Mavericks, and Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac.
I would like to reformat it so that I can use it on my laptop both with Windows and Mac OS at the same time. I do not wish to use a partition as I want to access the hard drive through Mac and Windows at the same time on my laptop and I also want to be able to access the Mac things on a Windows computer and vice versa.
I have never formatted a hard drive before, and I would like to use a completely safe software, or no software at all, if it is possible.
I am sorry but I don't have a very high knowledge of this.
Thanks,
Sandy-WoodIt would be easier, using Parallels, just to format the drive for "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". You can see it both in the Windows/Parallels and the Mac side. Leaving it formatted as NTFS is not going to allow you to access (write to) the drive unless you use third-party software. Formatting it for Mac lets you use it, as I said, on both the Parallels VM and the Mac side.
If you were using Boot Camp, I would advise leaving it formatted as NTFS and purchasing NTFS for Mac to access the drive on both OS's. You can mitigate that by formatting the drive for Mac:
Good luck,
Clinton -

I removed power from internal HDD so Windows install would work properly on SSD. I didn't think/realize that once it was installed and I plugged internal HDD back in that I would not be able to boot into Windows.
