NTP Error Logs on Nexus 5K [ ntpd[4746]: ntp:time reset +0.279670 s]
Hi Team,
We are using almost 10 Nexus 5k in our DC currently we are getting same error logs in all Nexus 5k.
" ntpd[4746]: ntp:time reset +0.279670 s "
Is it major error or just for reset time?........
Please check and let me know if you need any other logs from our switches.
Thanks....
Regards,
Senthil
Hi Senthilkumar
it is just an informational message stating that the NTP timer has been reset which would have been originated from the NTP server and communicated to all the devices connecting to this server
It's an informational message.

Time Machine is having a problem with that file. See #C3 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum). -
SQL server error log size is too big to handle
I am working with a large database on windows sql server 2008 R2 such that it has to run continuously 24x7 because of that it is not possible
to restart the server time to time. It is kind of monitoring system for big machines. Because of this SQL server error logs are growing too big even some times up to 60-70 GB at a limited sized hard drive. I can't delete them time to time manually. Can someone
please suggest a way using which I can stop creation of such error logs or recycle them after sometime. Most of the errors are of this kind --
Setting database option RECOVERY to simple for database db_name
P.S.- I have read limiting error logs to 6 etc. But that didn't help. It will be best if you could suggest some method to disable these logs.Hi Mohit11,
According to your description, your SQL Server error logs are growing too big to handle at a limited sized hard drive, and you want to know how to stop the generation of such error logs or recycle them after sometime automatically without restarting the
SQL Server, right?
As others mentioned above, we may not be able to disable SQL server error log generation. However we can recycle the error logs automatically by running the
sp_cycle_errorlog on a fixed schedule (i.e. every two weeks) using SQL agent jobs so that the error logs will be recycled
automatically without restarting SQL Server.
And it is also very important for us to keep the error log files more readable. So we can increase the number of error logs a little more and run the sp_cycle_errorlog more frequently (i.e. daily), then each file will in a smaller size to be more readable
and we can recycle the log files automatically.
In addition, in order to avoid the size of all the log files growing into a too big size unexpected (sometime it may happen), we can run the following query in SQL Agent job to automatically delete all the old log files when the size of log files is larger
than some value we want to keep (i.e. 30GB):
--create a tample table to gather the information of error log files
CREATE TABLE #ErrorLog
Archieve INT,
Dt DATETIME,
FileSize INT
GO
INSERT INTO #ErrorLog
EXEC xp_enumerrorlogs
GO
--delete all the old log files if the size of all the log files is larger than 30GB
DECLARE @i int = 1;
DECLARE @Log_number int;
DECLARE @Log_Max_Size int = 30*1024; --here is the max size (M) of all the error log files we want to keep, change the value according to your requirement
DECLARE @SQLSTR VARCHAR(1000);
SET @Log_number = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM #ErrorLog);
IF (SELECT COUNT(FileSize/1024/1024) FROM #ErrorLog) >= @Log_Max_Size
BEGIN
WHILE @i <= @Log_number
BEGIN
SET @SQLSTR = 'DEL C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log\ERRORLOG.' + CONVERT(VARCHAR,@i);
EXEC xp_cmdshell @SQLSTR;
SET @i =@i + 1;
END
END
DROP TABLE #ErrorLog

CALDAV server writes constantly too much into error log
Hi,
i managed to set up the OS X Server and CALDAV server, everything works fine, events can be synced to devices, macs, etc.
The firewall (Cisco RV042G) allows only SSL traffic and everythings works fine.
... but then I checked the error log:
2 strange entries are written several times in a minute:
1. APNProviderFactory#error
2013-04-25 11:20:47+0200 [-] [notifications] 2013-04-25 11:20:47+0200 [-] [calendarserver.push.applepush.APNProviderFactory#error] Unable to connect to APN server: [Failure instance: Traceback: <class 'socket.gaierror'>: [Errno 8] nodename nor servname provided, or not known
I can remove this entry if I open the firewall to allow all traffic from my OS X Server machine to ANY
But I don't like to do so, only open the ports I need.
Does anybody know, what else needs to be opened from OS X Server to stop this error entry?
Currently I allow the following outgoing traffic:

any idea what needs to be done?
Thanks a lot for any idea to get the log quiet.
~ MarkusHi,
i checked again and found, that TCP 5223 is no longer only associated to iCHAT SSL, it is now associated to Push-Notification.
I added IN - OUT for TCP 5223 and this seems to help a lot.
I updated the ports list I'm using - added that traffic is allowed incoming and outgoing to each of the ports (only DNS is outgoing)

I'm not sure under which circumstances this happens.
First guess was adding an event or a reminder on an iPhone, but this cannot be verified.
Maybe this is because I allow only SSL in/out for CARD/CALDAV. I don't know.
But the log is more or less growing is an expected way.
So I can check other logs... I think there are some more suspicious growings out there ;-)

Any info as to how I can keep my 'ntpd' from getting errors?First of all, subscriber call managers always point to primary cucm for time and that can't be changed. So, you are not really gaining much by having cucm2 as a ntp server.
Is ntp synced on the primary cucm to a external ntp server or not?
Yes, you can restart ntp without effecting anything during the day.
Remember if you are running 8.x on VMware, changing the ntp server address will change the license Mac hash.

Did find the time is same on the ntp server and the switch, however found the timezone to be different ( On the server it is HKT & on the switch it is GMT). Is it possible that the cause of the errors is due the Time Zone?
NTP server was configured almost 2 months ago, however the errors have appeared suddenly

This means that you've hit bug CSCsv11236. The freq of sysclk is 1333.330000 MHz which should be 1328.1275MHz. I'll save you the math but this works out to about 3.15 seconds per 15 minutes + ntp overhead.
The solution is simple: Check you're running
BIOS: version 1.0.19
kickstart: version 5.0(4)
system: version 5.0(4)
and powercycle the entire system. This should reset the clock speed of the CPU to the correct one. It might take a few days for NTP to stabilize again.

any help on how to fix this 13+ minute gap would be MOST appreciated - thanks!Roam has made a good catch.
It looks like the long lag begins from Software Update. (Booting in Verbose mode or looking in system.log might give more clues as to what's going on.) Is Sys Prefs>Software Update set to automatically check for, or download, updates (daily?) If it is, it may, for some reason, be getting hung up there. Uncheck that preference and see what the boot time looks like.
I would create another admin account (I always have one set up for testing purposes) and see if the boot up is the same.
You may have a problem with Software Update
Delete the contents (not the enclosing folder) of this folder
/Users/yourusername/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
And move this file to the Desktop:
/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
(there may be several more nearby titled "by host," with a long string of numbers; get those, as well.)
They are both in your Home Folder Library.

NTP error in RTMT of CUCM 8.6(2a) VM
Hello
We have migrated and upgraded an existing CUCM to 8.6(2a) on UCS using ESXi 4.1.
Everything seems to be fine exept that we are getting Syslogs in RTMT that are stating that there is something wrong with NTP (see Syslog message below).
At Sun Oct 16 13:40:30 CEST 2011 on node 10.0.128.24; the following SyslogSeverityMatchFound events generated: SeverityMatch : Critical MatchedEvent : Oct 16 13:40:04 NOS-CH-WBN-CM01 user 2 ntpRunningStatus.sh: The local NTP client is off by more than the acceptable threshold of 3 seconds from its remote NTP system peer. Please consult your VMware Infrastructure Support Team. AppID : Cisco Syslog Agent ClusterID : NodeID : NOS-CH-WBN-CM01 TimeStamp : Sun Oct 16 13:40:04 CEST 2011
However when we check the NTP status on the CUCM itself, there doesn't seems to be anything wrong (see CLI output below).

Regarding the Syslog message, we haven't done any WM migrations and the storage is on the local disks of the UCS C200. So ther has not been any storage VMotions at all.
The guest is not synchronising the time with the ESXi host (unchecked in the VMware tools settings on the guest)
Has anyone faced a similar problem?
Does anyone know if the problem is caused by VMware or CUCM 8.6(2a)?
Any help and input is appreciated.
Many thanks in advance

Stefan ChristenHello,
Could you copy 2 or 3 lines around this message ? It should specify to which remote peer talks about.
For ex I have the same issue on a CUCM 8.5.1 on UCS (ESX 4.0) when being testing 2 NTP relays, one in a Windows machine and another in a router.
I have the same message error for the ntp peer corresponding to the windows machine ("normal") and does not synchronize but I do not have any error message for the peer corresponding to the router.

In your case, verify if this message does not refer to 172.16.1.241, in which case does not seem an issue because your CUCM is in synch and prefers 172.16.2.241.
If that is the case, remove 172.16.1.241 as NTP server and check the logs.
You need perhaps another backup NTP server but it does not look to me very useful to point as backup NTP to a relay which is based on your primary NTP relay.
Let me know,

Guys, I keep getting this message in the errors log:
[28/Apr/2011:10:44:14 -0400] - INFORMATION - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - csngen_adjust_time: remote offset now 65174 sec
The offset keeps increasing with no correlation to the time when it happens, as in:
[28/Apr/2011:01:43:35 -0400] - INFORMATION - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - csngen_adjust_time: remote offset now 63339 sec
[28/Apr/2011:03:13:42 -0400] - INFORMATION - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - csngen_adjust_time: remote offset now 63645 sec
almost two hours passed, but only 300 seconds offset. Oracle support blamed it on NTP issues (this is a two-master configuration). There is a difference in the time (it really fluctuates), it is now 3 seconds behind on one of the masters. They say that if the offset grows it might brake replication. Replication seems to be working okay!
Does anybody know what generates this message, and if have to really worry about it or not? It is INFORMATION after all, but I have never seen it before.
Dual Master DSEE 7.0 64bit - RedHat linux 5.x 64 bit.
Thanks!
Enrique.Hi,
please believe what Oracle Support is telling you... replication protocol is based on the assumption that the time difference between the replicas doesn't change continuously, otherwise the mechanism to generate unique change sequence numbers (CSNs) could be broken and the replication protocol get locked.
If the time of your servers keeps being shifted onward, they could survive even with some notification message like the ones you're seeing, but problems may arise if the time of the server is 'shifted' back.

Oracle errors in Weblogic Error logs appear in non english
We have a problem with weblogic error logging. Specifically, in a managed server's log file, Oracle errors such as ORA-XXXX show in Greek, not English. We are assuming
that this is because the timezone is Europe/Athens. However, the weblogic application server runs with user.language=en, user.country=US. What's more, there are 4 application servers and 2 of them have this problem. The oracle database is accessed via weblogic datasources.
Oracle database server Setup: Oracle Server 11gR2 running on Oracle Linux 64 bit, timezone set to Europe/Athens
Weblogic Server: Weblogic 10.3.5 running on Oracle Linux 64 bit, timezone set to Europe/Athens
The managed server, according to jrockit, the jvm runs with the following language related system properties:
user.language=en, user.country=US, user.timezone=Europe/Athens
The question is: How do we tell oracle / weblogic to log english text for the ORA errors?
Thanks,
ChrisI digged in the weblogic installation directory and it seems like the domain configuration wizard messed up the jdbc configs for the data sources.
The config xml files for the data sources in the /domain root/config/jdbc directory had oracle driver but the test query was for pointbase. I double checked from the database.xml file in the init-info directory and corrected the entry in the datasource config xmls and voila!.. the errors were gone.
I am not sure if this was the right approach and whether i have solved the issue or simply patched it.. so I am keeping the question open. If any one has any inputs I will be grateful.
If the mods/admins feel that the thread should be marked as solved I will surely do so.
Thanks. -

Thanks,
MasterI am having this same issue as well. I upgraded our BI and BI Portal to SP12. Everything worked fine. Then I started the BI integration as outlined in OSS note 917950 -> Setting up BEx Web - Problem analysis.doc and restarted the J2EE engine and now I have this same error in the default trace and I can't log into the visual admin as the j2ee_admin user. I get "error while connecting". But I can connect to the visual admin as myself. If I login to the BI portal as my self and click on user administration I get this error "A required service for the identity management user interface is not available. Contact your system administrator"
Here's the error as seen in the default trace file that keeps repeating.

Hi All,
We are developing Report on SAP Payroll log with the error message . Is any table exist in SAP where we can get the standard error message repositery and then convert it in the User freindly error message ?
Thanks
HHello hg,
Before developing report on SAP Payroll error log I suggest taking a look at below blog. There is a new functionality from SAP to improve payroll data validation and they are calling it "Control Center Add-On".
This is going to be a free add on for anyone who is on EHP7 and NetWeaver on 7.4 release. The general availability is June 2nd 2014.
Improve payroll data validation with SAP Payroll control center add-on
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Hemanth Jamithi. -
No Error Log generated in 'Costing' step in Costing Run (CK40N)
In the Costing Run, when the 'Costing' step is run (after 'Material selection' and 'BOM Explosion' steps), it gives a hard stop when it encounters the 1st error, instead of completing the 'Costing ' step and giving an Error Log with material information and nature of errors. This makes it very cumbersome to resolve all the errors.
In the Costing Variant setting in config, the u2018Save Error Log' indicator has been checked.
Please let me know if I am missing something.
VenkatHi Vimal,
Your proposal does not resolve the issue. I found OSS Note 375901, which addresses this issue - see below
:In Customizing for the costing variant (Transaction OKKN) in the tab "Misc.", you chose "Messages online" for the Error Management option.
Solution
Change the error management for the costing variant to
"Log and Save Messages..."
Many thanks for your inputs.

IPhoto Crashes all of the time. Attached Error Log. Please help?
Attached is the error log. I've tried creating a new library and running disk utility. iPhoto crashes after a few minutes of use, especially when trying to edit photos. Any advice? The crashing is chronic and has occured for some time now (months).

Back up first, just in case, but it shouldn't effect your library.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
