NTp Solaris 10 Slew or step mode

Hi Team,
Could you please let us know how we can check if server is running in SLEW or STEP mode in Solaris 10 OE .
I Dident find any command and also checked ntp.conf file for Disable pll entry but could not come to the actual result that if system running in Slew or Step .
Please let us know how we can verify the same.
also I request if possible where we can get more details about NTP on Solaris 10 .
Best Regards.

Could you please let us know how we can check if server is running in SLEW or STEP mode in Solaris 10 OE .STEP isn't a mode, it's a single operation. If the daemon finds out that the time is "too far out" (128ms), then it will correct that time with a single step. If the offset is closer, then it will be trying to modify the system clock so that the offset is removed.
also I request if possible where we can get more details about NTP on Solaris 10 .Solaris 10 appears to ship with the same version of xntp that older Solaris distributions contained. It works in many situations, but is very, very old.
A good location for NTP information (on any OS) is probably comp.protocols.time.ntp. Several of the developers use that newsgroup. But they're not going to be interested in talking about the version that comes with Solaris due to its age. You may want to grab a more recent version and install it.

Hi Alex, we are also using tuxedo 32-bit on Solaris 64-bit operating
    system. There
is no problem doing this as your solaris version supports both 32 bit
    and 64 bit
programs. The things to watch out for are when you are building a tuxedo
    application,
you have to make sure that all the libraries you link with are also 32
    bit libraries,
including oracle. We ran into build problems when some libraries were
    32 bit
    and others were 64 bit.
There's good information about 32bit v 64bit on solaris at the following
    web site...
    http://docs.sun.com/?p=/doc/806-6543/6jffrdmee&a=view
I personally would use 64bit if possible, but it's no big deal to build
    32 bit
applications because my tuxedo application does not need a 64bit address
    space
and is not computationally heavy. Most of the CPU takes place in the
    database,
which in our case is Oracle, and which happens to be 64bit anyway. So
    it's not
a bad thing to build a 32 bit tuxedo application that runs on a 64 bit
    operating
system, for most types of tuxedo applications.

    Sun Solaris 8 SPARC X *(using 2.7 32-bit binaries)
    32-bit on 64-bit OS supported
Then Tuxedo 8.0 32.bit ruuning on Solaris 8 64-bit. OK
there is support from Bea . Is that is correct ???
I'll need used Tuxedo 64-bit ,you could benefit in performance.

If the platform list shows that a 32-bit build is certified on a 64bit
OS, then you can run it there.
If you want an actual 64 bit build, it is because you want the big
address space, longer longs in FML, and everything else you get from
    64
    bits.
If you want to have an application span Solaris and Digital UNIX, which
is always 64 bit, you might want both to be 64 bits so that you do
    not
lose any data in the conversion.
On HP, you can't link 32-bit Tuxedo with another product that is 64-bit
(Oracle for example). You might need a 64 bit Tuxedo in order to work
    with other products.

  • Problem with step mode in ultrabeat

I use step mode in ultrabeat (when everything becomes yellow). Lots of tweaks are done in step mode, and everything sounds correctly. But after reopen the project some voices sounds like they are in voice mode, not in step mode, even if the step mode is on.
This problem could be fixed by clicking on that voices. But there are 25 of them, it is really annoying. Could some one tell me, why does it happen? Thank you…

    Hi,
Ultrabeat is not so much a sample player, but more a synthesizer. Your squeek probably has to do with the synth parameters of that sound in UB.
This guy (David Earl aka SFLogicNinja) explains it well:

  • Stuck in Step Mode

I am running LabView 7 and for some reason when I click the run button it automatically goes into step mode... Or what looks like step mode. I tried cutting and pasting the code into a completely new VI and it still won't run continuously. Any help would be sooooo very appreciated.

I think of two problems that you could have :
    - Check if the button pause is black and not red when clicking the run button. If this button is red then it means that you want LabView to run in step mode.
    - If the problem is not there check if you have no breakpoints anywhere. LabView can check for you if there are breakpoints in the code. See in the different menus.
    Hope this helps !

I know Boost 1.54 is not the most recent version, but the only changes to unordered_set.hpp between 1.54 and the current master branch in Boost's Git repository are Visual Studio 2013 workarounds, so I strongly suspect the same problem would occur with Solaris Studio 12.4 and more recent versions of Boost.
This problem can be avoided by using std::unordered_set instead of boost::unordered_set.  However, since the compiler actually suffers a SEGV rather than giving a nice error message I thought I'd report this in case it's a sign of a problem in the compiler that might occur under other circumstances too.

Thanks for the help.  Yes, sorry, I should have made clear that this is after trying to use Boost in C++11 mode.  I agree that the problem doesn't occur when using Solaris Studio in C++11 mode but Boost configured not to use any C++11 features.
I made quite a few edits to the Boost code, including the ones Steve posted in this thread.  The edit that causes this problem to occur is the one to boost/config/compiler/sunpro_cc.hpp that removes all the BOOST_NO_CXX11_* macros.
It sounds like I should just hold off trying to use Boost in C++11 mode until the next version of Solaris Studio is out.

  • Compiling perl on Solaris x86 in 64bit mode with libperl.so

    Hello,
I am trying to compile perl 5.10.0 on solaris 10/x86 in 64bit mode, some basic infos are:
    System: SunOS oven 5.10 Generic_120012-14 i86pc i386 i86pc
Compiler: gcc version 3.4.3 (csl-sol210-3_4-branch+sol_rpath) which comes with SUNWgcc
To compile in 64bit I add the -m64 to linker and compiler flag.
I also point the Configure to appropriate 64bit library directories.
Static compilation without libperl.so build works like a charm, with libperl.so it compiles as well but execution of perl or miniperl results in:
ld.so.1: miniperl: fatal: relocation error: R_AMD64_PC32: file /export/home/keeper/build/perl-5.10.0/libperl.so: symbol main: value 0x2800117364c does not fit
Same happens with perl 5.8.8 btw.
I have tried to add / remove -fPIC flag, result is the same.
I am also 100% sure that the correct libperl.so is taken.
    Anyone had success in this?

    Hi,
I have tried that option and I did get some information. After dlopen when I am trying to close using dlclose, the application is crashing. The log is given below.

  • How do I find wether Solaris 8 is running in 32 bit or 64 bit kernel mode

    I have some questions
1)Ho do I know wether solaris 8 is running in 32 bit kernel mode or 64 bit kernel mode.
2)Is there any way that we can switch between 32 bit and 64 bit without reinstalling the OS.?
3)Does the SunLink OSI 8.1.1 work with solaris 8(32 bit kernel mode) without any patch. If any patch required , can you tell me the patch that i need to install.
    Thanking in anticipation

    Hi,
To find out wheter 32 or 63-bit mode
    # /usr/bin/isainfo -kv

  • Setup fo running in 64 bits mode (Solaris)

    Hi everybody.
I would like to know what do I have to change so that I can run Sun Java System Application Server on Solaris Sparc in 64 bits mode.
I am planning to deploy an Enterprise Application on servers with High RAM, so I would like to be able to use beyond 4GB.
My applications use intensively JMS too.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Sergio Gutirrez

What version of the application server do you have? We don't support the 64-bit JVM on any released version of the application server; that support will be in SJSAS 9.1 (glassfish v2), for which you can try a beta version. SJSAS 8.x version scan't use the 64-bit JVM because they have native 32-bit libraries. 9.0 is somewhere in between -- you could configure it to use the 64-bit JVM, but it's not something that is actually supported.
To use the 64-bit JVM where we support it, in the jvm options, replace -client or -server with -d64.
Does your application really need more than 4GB of RAM? There is a performance penalty for using the 64-bit JVM, and it's rare that the ability to use more memory in the appserver can offset that performance difference. Plus, traditional GC will be a problem if you leave the appserver up long enough to fill the old space (which will depend on how big you size it, of course, but considering an application server will be up in productions for months at a time, you'll get there eventually no matter what) -- so if you really need the larger heap, I'd suggest making sure that you use the concurrent garbage collector.

  • Solaris 10 sshd + GSSAPI auth appears to fail with long usernames.

Solaris 10 sshd using GSSAPI mode appears to fail with long usernames.
We have recently jumbo-patched solaris 10 server and windows 2k3 kerberos kdc. We wish to provide the single sign on thing for our Windows users, as written up in http://220-245-28-18.static.tpgi.com.au/~irvinee/gssapi-sol10/gssapi-howto.html
Everything is fine, until a user with a ten character username comes along. The ten character username does not get the single sign on experience
However, he can kinit fine on Solaris 10 server and also on other unix clients.
If I switch from the stock solaris 10 sshd to a self-compiled OpenSSH linked against MIT Kerberos, the 10 char username gets single-sign-on and all is well..
I note I have no problem when the server is FreeBSD 6.2 and the client is stock solaris 10 ssh.
It seems to be the Solaris 10 sshd only that is affected. Before I write up a bug report, has anyone else come across the same problem?

I finally got it working. I think my problem was that I was coping and pasting the /etc/pam.conf from Gary's guide into the pam.conf file.
There was unseen carriage returns mucking things up. So following a combination of the two docs worked. Starting with:
    http://web.singnet.com.sg/~garyttt/Configuring%20Solaris%20Native%20LDAP%20Client%20for%20Fedora%20Directory%20Server.htm
Then following the steps at "Authentication Option #1: LDAP PAM configuration " from this doc:
    http://docs.lucidinteractive.ca/index.php/Solaris_LDAP_client_with_OpenLDAP_server
for the pam.conf, got things working.
Note: ensure that your user has the shadowAccount value set in the objectClass

  • Downgrading JDK of a remote Solaris to install WebLogic Server 10.0

    Hello all,
I've been assigned a virtual machine at my intern that needs WebLogic installed on it as part of my training. While going through WebLogic 10.0 compatibility notes in the Oracle website I have found that it requirea a 1.5 JDK while the Solaris machine is running the following:
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_21-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 17.0-b16, mixed mode)
It's 1.6. And apparently I need to downgrade since, from what I've read, WebLogic Server 10.0 is only compatible with JDK 1.5 (5.0 and later).
The machine has the following specifications:
    # uname -a && cat /etc/*release
    SunOS ELSOLT01 5.10 Generic_142910-17 i86pc i386 i86pc
    Oracle Solaris 10 9/10 s10x_u9wos_14a X86
Could someone who has encountered a similar problem give me a few pointers on how to downgrade a remote machine using SSH? I have .sh and .tar files of JDK 1.5
    Much appreciated.

"...only compatible with JDK 1.5 (5.0 and later)."
I think this would include 1.6 too (5 and later).
If you want to use another Java version with WebLogic you have to adjust the setDomainEnv.sh.
Note that when you install WebLogic, you only have software there is not yet any runtime.
What you do is from this software you create a domain (which is still software). When you create
a domain, there is also a setDomainEnv.sh file create. In this file you find the following entries:
    WL_HOME="/location/wlserver_10.3"
    export WL_HOME
    BEA_JAVA_HOME="/location/jrockit_160_24_D1.1.2-4"
    export BEA_JAVA_HOME
    SUN_JAVA_HOME="/location/some_version_of_the_JDK"
    export SUN_JAVA_HOME
    # added JAVA_VENDOR property
    JAVA_VENDOR="Oracle"
    export JAVA_VENDOR
    # added USER_MEM_ARGS, which override the memory settings
    # the following shows a JRockit example
    USER_MEM_ARGS="-Xms512m -Xmx512m -Xns256m -XXkeepAreaRatio:25 -Xgcprio:pausetime -XpauseTarget:200ms"
    export USER_MEM_ARGS
    # the following shows a (Sun) HotSpot example
    #USER_MEM_ARGS="-Xmx512m -Xms512m -Xmn256m -XX:SurvivorRatio=8 -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90 -XX:MaxTenuringThreshold=31 -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC"
    #export USER_MEM_ARGS
    if [ "${JAVA_VENDOR}" = "Oracle" ] ; then
         JAVA_HOME="${BEA_JAVA_HOME}"
         export JAVA_HOME
    else
         if [ "${JAVA_VENDOR}" = "Sun" ] ; then
              JAVA_HOME="${SUN_JAVA_HOME}"
              export JAVA_HOME
         else
              JAVA_VENDOR="Oracle"
              export JAVA_VENDOR
              JAVA_HOME="C:/bea/jrockit_160_24_D1.1.2-4"
              export JAVA_HOME
         fi
    fi
    # We need to reset the value of JAVA_HOME to get it shortened AND
    # we can not shorten it above because immediate variable expansion will blank it
    JAVA_HOME="${JAVA_HOME}"
export JAVA_HOMEBy letting the JAVA_HOME point to the right directory you can alter the JVM with which WebLogic runs.
The setDomainEnv.sh file is located in the <middleware-home>/user_projects/domains/<domain-name>/bin directory.
Copy the new JDK files to the Solaris machine (you could probably also you something like winscp (http://winscp.net/eng/index.php) when
you copy the files from a Windows machine).
Install the JDK (usually a JDK to be installed on Solaris constists of two steps install 32bits than install 64 bits)

  • Solaris 11.1 console layout switch in VirtualBox

I have Win7pro x64 as a VirtualBox host system and Solaris 11.1 as guest.
Solaris was installed in text mode, with default language and keymap settings (English).
Then I have changed locale settings:
    pkg change-facet facet.locale.ru_RU=True
    svccfg -s svc:/system/environment:init \
    setprop environment/LANG = astring: ru_RU.UTF-8
    svcadm refresh svc:/system/environment
    and layout settings:
    svccfg -s keymap:default setprop keymap/layout = Russian
    svcadm refresh keymap
    svcadm restart keymap
    also I have tried:
    kbd -s with selecting Russian
    loadkeys
But after system reboot I still can't switch keyboard layout (US always).
I have tried all combinations of ctrl, shift, alt (and also "win key" and "menu").
This is when virtual machine have no GUI installed.
After installing GUI I have a login request window with RU layout and I can not switch to US layout to enter login name.
So I had to switch back keymap settings to enter the system:
    svccfg -s keymap:default setprop keymap/layout = US-English
    What am I doing wrong?
And whats the difference between "setprop keymap/layout" and "kbd -s"?
P.S. yes, I can use ssh for working with server. And now I am using it. But I have already spend enough time for working with this issue. Thats why I want to know the right answer.
    Thanks!
    Edited by: user13068010 on 29.05.2013 0:27

You are not doing anything wrong...
You've correctly set Russian facet (ru_RU), then you've correctly set the default system locale in LANG to ru_RU.UTF-8 locale and then you've correctly set the Russian keyboard layout for the console by modifying the keymap property with the correct value and refreshes/restarted it. (There is one more step you did not do: to run kbd -i so that the keymap kernel module will be loaded... it is a bug that was fixed in S11.2)
Unfortunately S11.1 does not have support for Russian Keyboard Layout in the Console, and so in the Console you are not able to input Russian characters even if all settings are correctly set, the input will fallback to the default input: US-English.
When you install GUI (I guess GNOME) then you are able to input Russian characters.
" And whats the difference between "setprop keymap/layout" and "kbd -s"? "
The SMF Property svc:/system/keymap:default is the one that stores the value of keymap/layout... and so what kbd -s <layout> does is: set keymap/layout value (<layout>) in Property svc:/system/keymap:default and then it refreshes and restarts the property . Additionally since S11.2 it also runs kbd -i and loadkeys commands.

  • Netmask Changes in Solaris 10

    Hi Team,
We tried to change the netmask and broadcast address in solaris 10 by below steps
    ifconfig ipge0 down
    ifconfig ipge0 <ipaddress> netmask <subnet mask> broadcast <address
    ifconfig ipge0 up
But interface is not up. The command (ifconfig ipge0 up) is hanged for long time without giving any error.
So, we changed the new netmask in the /etc/inet/netmasks and rebooted the server. The new changes got affect only after reboot.
Could you please confirm the Solaris 10 requres reboot for changes in netmask.
    Regards,
    R. Rajesh Kannan.

No, it doesn't need a reboot.
In fact, you don't even have to take the interface down....
I would edit /etc/netmasks so that the correct setting was in there for the next time I booted. Then:
'ifconfig <interface> netmask + broadcast +' (Yes, with the '+' symbols).
That should do it. No need to down or up.
    Darren
