NTSC 29.97 with pulldown to PAL conversion
i receive NTSC 29.97 fps MOTION JPEG A files and need to work with them in PAL VIDEO 25 fps - TC in picture SYN with timeline TC. the files have TC in the picture.
i tried reverse telecine to 23.98 and then conform to 25
picture & sound are there - but with the picture put in my PAL timeline the TIMELINE TC and THE PIC TC get out of sync.
we had a post house do that stuff, but since we work with FCP anyway, i want to be able to do it inhouse. should be possible somehow, right?
thanks for your help !
Wow...that's awesome! From what I see, I just open the video with CinemaTools, click on "conform" and tell it what I want, correct? So, I did that and it was super-fast...almost so fast you didn't think it was doing anything. I played the file back and it appears to have added pulldown, but the audio was sped up. Any ideas what to do now?
Thanks for the CinemaTools suggestion!!!

Any successful NTSC to PAL conversions out there and how?
Hi all. I am using Compressor 2 and have yet to get a good NTSC to PAL conversion with the built in preset. I could use some suggestions.
If you are unhappy with the current results don't use the standard preset. Try one of the other frame control options that offer higher quality but with much longer processing times. Also, make certain that you have the latest Compressor updates, the last update had fixes for NTSC/PAL conversions.
Finally, you might want to try the freeware utiltiy JES Deinterlacer. JES does adaptive deinterlacing, inverse telecine, and NTSC/PAL conversion and many users seem to be happy with its results (and since it is a completely free download you can hardly go wrong). -
Pitch Change fix for 24p NTSC to PAL Conversion
Anyone here have a decent tutorial for Audacity or Soundtrack Pro to fix 4% pitch change caused from 24p NTSC to PAL conversion? I don't have Protools. Thanks!
AlexanderIn the Project tab of STP (top left pane) there is an Audio PullUp/PullDown menu. You should find the preset you need in there.

TIP: 24p ntsc to PAL conversion
Many thanks to Graeme Nattress for this solution.
Our project was a 90-minute doc edited in 24p ntsc. We needed to create a PAL version by transcoding in software. If we simply placed the ntsc version in a PAL sequence, the frame rate change resulted in blurry motion and repeated frames, giving the motion a jerky look.
I had been trying to use the Nattress standards conversion plugins with no success. However, Graeme was kind enough to recommend the following workflow:
1. Create a reference movie of the original sellf-contained movie of the ntsc version
2. Conform the 24p clip to 25 fps in Cinema Tools. This took about 1 second. The resulting clip was 4% shorter (about 4 minutes) and the audio was automatically speeded up to match.
3. I now placed the 25 fps ntsc clip into a PAL sequence and scaled it up to 120% to fill the PAL frame. I exported my mpeg for DVD using compressor, which took only about 6 hours to encode on a dual 1.8 G5, a perfectly acceptable ratio of about 4:1. The result was that all of our original 24P frames were intact, with no conversion, interpolation, extra frames, blurring, etc. The quality was much better than any other workflow I had tested, and it saved us lots of rendering and exporting time.
Thanks again Graeme!
Max AverageYes, definitely the way to do it.
Even in the NTSC world, low-budget filmmakers have been doing the reverse for years - shooting PAL because of the ease of conversion from 25fps video to a 24fps film print - a 4% slow-down in this case. The extra 96 lines of vertical resolution is especially beneficial in this workflow too!
Good to see you NTSC guys more with PAL! -
Nattress NTSC To PAL Conversion Question
Is there noticeable difference in quality loss when using the Nattress Standards Conversion plug-in?
I'm assuming that if NTSC is 720 x 480 and PAL is 720 x 576, then Nattress has to 'stretch' the 480 to 576... right?I've only done the conversion from PAL to NTSC with Graeme's conversion plugin, but it (and all my other Nattress effects experiences) have been excellent...

Ntsc hi8 to fce1, shot in pal
Has anyone had problems with capturing Hi 8 (SP) video on Final Cut Express? I seem to be able to pull the video up in the capture window but its lke jerky but looks ok on a external switchable monitor, it's a Samsung HI 8 SCL 700 NTSC 8mm, in the menu there is PAL conversion off/or PAL 60.
shot in Pal (i think) in uk
thanks

Al.
This is difficult, and will not give you what you want.
In NTSC you have a frame rate of 29.97fps with a completely different vertical resolution - 480 lines against 576 lines.
For film, you also end up with either frame blending, or frame doubling using Premiere or After Effects.
Best option:
www.dvfilm.com - and get DV Film Atlantis. This will take your NTSC video and convert to PAL, but there will be an unavoidable 4% speed increase. To get around this, you will need to extract the audio from the NTSC, and then go into Premiere & import the converted PAL film, and the original Audio & stretch the film to fit the audio.
Alternative is to just live with the speed difference, or cope with the inevitable judder & frame blending.
Menus will need to be redone due to the difference in vertical resolution.
When multiple standards are needed, it's better to start in PAL & convert to NTSC with Atlantis - no speed differences then - and you will also need 2 sets of menus. -
Here's the situation. I've got a DVD all edited. I need an NTSC version and a PAL version. Right now I have everything edited NTSC and encoded to mpeg2 for the NTSC DVD.
How do I go about converting the PAL version? Do I need to re-export the QT's from FCP as PAL or can I convert my existing NTSC QT's or mepegs to PAL?I just wanted to wrap this one up real quick.
Going by the article in the link above, Compressor takes about 30 minutes to convert 1 minute of video.
I downloaded the Nattress demo and gave that a try as well. It took a couple of minutes 2 do all of the necessary nesting and applying the filter, 13 minutes to render, 23 minutes to export, and 8 minutes to encode in Compressor. This was all done with a 1minute QT. So it was a total of about 46 minutes to produce 1 minute of PAL video.
It would appear the Compressor method is the quicker of the 2.
My problem is resolved... Going to recommend to the boss that it just isn't cost effective to do this one. Thanks for all the help. -
How can I match the format from a Sony SD Card to work with my DV Pal tapes in FCP 7.3
Hi, I'm having a Problem editing in the files from a SD Card and mixing it with my DV Pal film in the same project.
It all seems to be working right through to completing it in DVD Studio Pro, but on looking at the DVD after the most of the film from the card is very bad, particularly if there was movement in the Scene, I suppose I could describe it as ghosting. I've tried a lot of different ways around it but with only minor success, any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
BrendanThanks David for the reply, When I look at the Info on the Log & Transfer window it gives a number.mpg,
when I transfer it, I see it as Apple ProRes 422. I shot it in PAL & as far as I can remember,
PAL is progressive.
Also I shot it it in Std. mode as the other Clips I need to use were filmed IN DV CAM std.
again thanks

NTSC assets cannot be imported into PAL projects.
Hi, i have exported .mov from FCP and when i try to import it into DVD Studio Pro i get the message,
NTSC assets cannot be imported into PAL projects, WHY, it is not an NTSC asset ?
HELP
PaulDo not use H.264. Use Pro Res or send the timeline straight from Final Cut to Compressor an a PAL preset (or one that you make yourself.) I prefer sending out self-contained versions in case I need to re-rencode or want to make items for various formats.
Movie setting up Compressor *in case you need it) is [here|http://www.dvdstepbystep.com/compressor.mov] Make sure to use PAL and/or make sure you make your preset PAL -
I purchase some Apps at the Apple Store and get billed to my e-mail address. How I pay my bill with my "Pay Pal" account? Is a bit silly request but I'm a newbie.

Thanks very much for your help, your solution solved my problem.

BPC 7.5: problem with FX_SOURCE_CATEGORY on currency conversion
Hi,
we are trying to convert our actual data with two different rates. For this we have created two categories, ACTUAL and ACTUAL_PY.
ACTUAL has blank FX_SOURCE_CATEGORY and blank RATE_CATEGORY properties and the conversion works fine.
ACTUAL_PY has FX_SOUCE_CATEGORY of ACTUAL and RATE_CATEGORY of either blank or ACTUAL_PY (we have tested with both).
The conversion of ACTUAL_PY when run for the first time correctly converts all accounts/flows that have a conversion method of AS_IS corectly. When run for the second time, it doubles up to amounts on those AS_IS accounts/flows. When run for the third time, the amounts are tripled etc.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of how FX_SOURCE_CATEGORY should work?
Thanks,
Arnold

Custom XMP Panel with "pulldowns" in Bridge
Hello,
I have a custom XMP panel built that is visible in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, which is nice.
I can view this custom XMP panel in Bridge as well, however the fields with pulldown menus don't show in Bridge. Being able to use pulldowns is critical for our workflow...AND I want people to be able to use Bridge for metadata entry. Does anyone have a solution for this?
I want fields with pulldowns in my custom XMP panel to be viewable and editable in Bridge. Help!!
Thanks
RobBridge's metadata panel only supports plain-text fields for custom metadata. See the following article on how to submit and feature request to Adobe via the feature request form:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/800/e8008c68.html
I assume you already know that you can open the File Info dialog itself directly within Bridge for a selection of one or more files, yes? The same custom File Info panel that appears in Photoshop's File Info panel will appear in Bridge. To open File Info in Bridge, use the File or thumbnail-contextual menus or the keyboard shortcut Cmd+Opt+Shift+I.
If you really require a highly customized metadata UI right inside the Bridge window (File Info is a modal dialog box), and you are willing to invest some coding effort, then I suggest using Flex Builder to create a custom Flash Panel for Bridge. You will have to take on some non-trivial work to sync up what's displayed/edited in your custom panel with the current selection of Thumbnails, etc., but such a solution should be technically possible. The Bridge Scripting SDK includes example for how to add a Flash panel, how to get your Flash ActionScript and Bridge JavaScript to talk to each other via the Flash External Interface, and how to use the XMPScript API to modify metadata for files. Again, I think the effort required is non-rivial, but Bridge does provide a platform upon which you can build a highly customized solution.

Problem with String to Int conversion
Dear Friends,
Problem with String to Int conversion
I am having a column where most of the values are numeric. Only 4 values are non numeric.
I have replaces those non numeric values to numeric in order to maintain the data type.
CASE Grade.Grade WHEN 'E4' THEN '24' WHEN 'E3' THEN '23' WHEN 'E2' THEN '22' WHEN 'E1' THEN '21' ELSE Grade.Grade END
This comes the result as down

Now I want to convert this value to numeric and do some calculation
So I changed the formula as below
cast (CASE Grade.Grade WHEN 'E4' THEN '24' WHEN 'E3' THEN '23' WHEN 'E2' THEN '22' WHEN 'E1' THEN '21' ELSE Grade.Grade END as INT)
Now I get the following error

Thanks again for your support

Code: cast (CASE (CASE WHEN Length(Grade.Grade)=0 THEN '--' ELSE Grade.Grade END) WHEN 'E4' THEN '24' WHEN 'E3' THEN '23' WHEN 'E2' THEN '22' WHEN 'E1' THEN '21' when '--' then '-1' ELSE Grade.Grade END as Int) -

can any help it out in this senario.Sorry Butterbean, but I'm interested in the answer to your question myself.
I've spent a few hours transfering my library from one computer to another and then find out that my ratings didn't transfer. Like you, I've spent many hours rating my 2000+ songs. I'm sure you have more, nevertheless, I want to find out how to get those ratings. They still show in my iTunes on my laptop but, when I go to the iTunes folder and display the details of at song, no rating is there. If you find out how to get them to display there in the iTunes folder, it seems that would be the key.
Hope you get your answer soon.
