Nuance Dragon PC and/or Mac on Intel Macs???
The Nuance advisory relative to system requirements is that Dragon Dictate works on any Mac with an Intel processor.
A rep I spoke with at Nuance, assured me that this is the case and applies to booting into Windows on a Mac to use Dragon Naturally. I asked about sound card quality and was told that, since microphones connect via USB on Intel Macs, there are no issues with sound card quality and/or compatibility issues. This is because USB microphones bypass the sound card, entirely. If a USB microphone is Intel Mac compatible, Dragon Dictate and Dragon Naturally will work just fine.
I also asked about processor (i5 or i7), speed, and memory requirements relative to Intel Macs, especially when booting into Windows to use Dragon Naturally since there are specific requirements listed in the Dragon for PC sections. Again, I was told this isn’t a consideration, that both the Mac and PC versions will run on any Mac with an Intel processor.
A friend wanted to help out and sent my husband the Dragon Dictate software. Wonderful thing to do, but we’re still working with a PPC G5. My husband needs to do quite a lot of dictation and so we really want to be able to use the Dragon software. Everything I was able to find out (not all that much) pretty much had me convinced that, if we want to use Dragon without being totally frustrated, we’ll have to go back to the less than wonderful world of PC desktops.
I really, really, really wanted to make our next purchase a Mac notebook; or at least a Mac Mini. After talking to the Nuance rep, I’m hoping that we still can buy a Mac. I guess we’re lucky in that limiting use to direct dictation using the Nuance Notepad app isn’t an issue so all the “general use” problems with Dragon Dictate aren’t likely to be a deal breaker. So, maybe we can put our friend’s way too generous gift to use? Or, if not, still get a Mac and boot into Windows to run Dragon?
Don’t know if the information from the Nuance rep is actually the case in the real world, or not. Anyone successfully running Dragon for the Mac and/or PC on a MacBook Air ~ especially the entry level version? Or a MacBook Pro? Or a Mac Mini? Any details and/or advice would be more than appreciated!

I've used Dictate for the Mac on systems with 4 GBs of RAM. In fact I've used earlier products from MacSpeech (before they shifted to Dictate) all of which worked well on even earlier Mac models. I don't think you need worry about whether you have adequate hardware.
I don't use Dictate for personal reasons - not really necessary for me - but I have installed and tested it and all of the MacSpeech speech recognition products from when they were first starting up. They are helpful and reliable people to work with.

I wonder how many Thunderbird users with poor eyesight who are forced to use Nuance Dragon are finding that it is not compatible with the latest version 13 of Dragon (confirmed without offer of help by Nuance). Versions 12 & 12.5 worked perfectly for dictation and Thunderbird.
The only function of Dragon (but for me with AMD, a major one) which does not work for me in version 13 is that it will not print my dictation, or use any commands associated with dictation. In all other respects, it works normally with commands like "Click Send", "Click File, Click Exit", "Click Write", etc., but simply, no text appears when I dictate. So to use Thunderbird I have two always call up the Dictation Box, which is a nuisance.
Somebody in Nuance must have made a simple mistake when upgrading from version 12.5 to version 13, a mistake which only involves this tiny area in Thunderbird, so I just cannot understand why they cannot check it out and correct it. Previous versions of Dragon where superb with Thunderbird.
When I sent them a complaint, they simply replied saying they were sorry for the inconvenience, but that Dragon version 13 was simply incompatible with Thunderbird. End of story no offer to investigate or help – I just wish there was an alternative company with a similar product, and I would switch instantly! -

Power supply Mini Mac G4 and Mini Mac intel
Is there a difference between the power supply of the Mini mac G4 and the intel one.
I have tried to connect the intel to the supply of the G4. But the mac does not start. I can't read the specs because i have not the supply of the intel with me.

After I returned my old G4 mini and exchanged for an Intel mini, I attempted to use my original power pack from my G4 mini as I intended to keep the new power pack as a spare. However, the Intel mini did not get sufficient power from the old power pack to turn on. When I looked at the voltage it was slightly different. (Not that I can remember the exact figures).

I downloaded Dragon Express and think that it did not completely complete the download. However, it says that it has been installed and my account has been charged 50.00. However, when I click on the icon, it will not open. I have tried everything from restarting, trashing the app, but it continues to tell me that I cna't trash the app because it is open. I called apple support and they worked with me for about 30 minutes until they finally told me that the call had to end regardless of the fact that after all of their efforts, the problem was not resolved. He gave me a link to get a refund and said it was easy to navigate however, it led me nowhere. So now I am stuck with a worthless app, that does not work and a 50.00 bill to pay because I can't get support or link support to get a refund and even if I could get a refund I still have the Dragon express on my computer that does not work!!! HELP! I don't know how the app can be open when even support could not figure it out! When I restart, the finder window opens where it never did before.
Well first of all this is a public forum, so keep that in mind. The users here generally can not look up your case numbers.

Unfortunately, their case indexing is on a different database, and they will not be able to look up your case number either. However, their support is free, and despite it may take a few bounces of emails back and forth, there is a decent chance they may be able to get a solution.
Or... you can still try to shoot the **** with us here, which is Ok as well. But you'll have to keep in mind we can't look up your case numbers.

I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant from my mac mini. I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers. It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro. When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device. I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer. Any ideas?

The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem. Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page. Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.) -
Quick question. I just installed a Linksys Wireless Router and voila, I am wirelessly connected. Right out of the box.
Question: Are our Macs automatically protected from "outsiders" or do we have to do something manually?
Re: One Intel iMac and one Mac Book Pro. The Router is connected to my one and only PC in the house. This PC is "wired" as it has no wireless card. I want to keep it this way. Just want my Macs wireless.

Intel iMac 17" and Mac Book Pro Mac OS X (10.4.6)Thank you all for all your help. I was able to get to the Setp Up page of my Router and rename the Router and create a new password. I also disabled Broadcast. And yes, I enabled Firewall.
I noticed now that the signal in my bedroom for my MacBook Pro is rather weak - sometimes I can't connect at all. Could this be because of my disabling Broadcast? Is there something I can use to boost my signal in the bedroom such as an antenna?
The signal was fine on Sunday when I first plugged in the Router out of the box without any modifications.

Success with iDefrag and DiskWarrior on my Intel iMac! (indirectly)
Had some very good success using iDefrag and DiskWarrior on my intel iMac, both of which do not run directly on the intel platform yet. As I had observed a gradual (modest) slow-down over the course of the past month since I got my iMac, I couldn't help but try to figure out a way to defrag and optimize the hard drive since I had over 125GB (including quite a few large media files, and a couple system updates, both of which tend to cause fragmentation). So, after doing two independent backups on separate external HD's, I ran iDefrag on my iBook and defrag/optimized the iMac's hard drive using Target Disk Mode. As expected, the hd was VERY fragmented - and the process took overnight to complete. Being as careful as possible to ensure no problems, I then ran verify disk and repair permissions on the iMac's hard drive, and no problem. Did notice a very meaningful increase in responsiveness and speed on the iMac, even more than I would have expected. Since I historically always ran DiskWarrior after doing this exercise on my PPC mac's, I decided to attempt the same here. Since I (and others on this board) have been unsuccessful in running DW3.03 using the iMac in Target Disk Mode, I decided to update backup drive #1 post-iDefrag, and was then able to mount this drive (backup#1) and run DiskWarrior on it from the iBook. No problems were detected which was great news, but the I had it write the new index/directory files. I then sync'd back to my iMac's hard drive (from backup#1 to iMac HD) and observed that a number of files were updated most likely as a result of the updated directory/index files from running DW (I use FolderSynchronizer to sync). So keeping backup#2 of the pre-iDefrag/DiskWarrior for a while, but so far so good, and a very meaningful improvement in performance. So the experiment seems to be a success.
DISLAIMERS: If anyone does "try this at home" please backup and re-backup before attempting. In addition, please note that Coriolis is in the process of developing an intel build for iDefrag and probably recommended in general to wait for this update.

I put in some time chasing the 801.57 gb limit before finding this thread that steers in the direction I see now I must persue, a new enclosure (modern day version rather than 5 year old technology -- yes, the old external drive has the Oxford chipset mentioned repeatedly in other threads) to go with my new drive. Would have been better off $$-wise to have purchased a complete unit, but this is so much more fun on a Monday evening.

Performance and instability trouble with intel iMac after 10.4.8
Hi all,
I have a 20" intel (Core Duo) iMac. Everything was super fast and nice since I bought it last February.
I recently "software updated" to 10.4.8 and since then it seems slower, groggy, and Safari crashes regularly.
Is this a known issue or is it just me? Is there anyway to uninstall 10.4.8? Or, can anyone recommend a utility to help diagnose the problem?

No, you are not the first to mention the issues you are now experiencing with the 10.4.8 update...
Here's what I would try: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1048comboupdateintel.html - you can run the Combo Update and see if that "fixes" any issues. There have been posts re: using the Combo Update which ended up fixing some software glitches...

10.4.11 Macs will have Kernel Panics when trying to use Dual Band Airport Extreme Base Station. There are a few forums here dealing with it. I just purchased an Airport Extreme Base Station and spent two days now figuring out why the old iMac G5 running 10.4.11 (Tiger) was Kernel Panicing. There is a way that I am testing now that seems to be working. I will post the link in a minute when I find it. Other solution is to upgrade to 10.5 .

Greetings... I have just found a resolution to this problem, at lease if you're using one of the newer Dual Band Airport Extreme base stations. This fix was provided by an AppleCare representative named Rebecca, and I am deeply in her debt. To review: MY PROBLEM - After installing a new Dual Band Airport Extreme in July 2010, I began to have frequent kernel panics with my older laptops running Tiger (10.4.11). My newer Intel/Leopard MacBook Pro ran fine with the new base station, but these older Power PC Macs with Tiger just crashed again and again. Pulling the Airport Card was the only fix. I tried every conceivable software and network fix; nothing helped. THE SOLUTION - The AppleCare rep talked me through this, but I'm pretty sure this was the procedure. Please note that I cannot guarantee that I have not forgotten a step! But I am fairly sure this is it. (If an Apple specialist is reading, please check this!) Keep in mind, this will only work if you have a dual-band Airport base station. I performed this on a Mac Pro running OS 10.6.4, with Airport Utility version 5.5.1 and firmware 7.5. 1. Launch Airport Utility.
2. With the dual-band base station selected, click Manual Setup.
3. Click the Wireless tab.
4. Click the "Wireless Network Options" button near the bottom.
5. Check the box that says "5 GHz Network," then enter a new network name in the Name field. (Your existing network name appears there now. Just delete it and type a new one.)
6. Click Done. That dialogue will close.
7. Now click Update. The Airport base station will now take about a minute to reboot. Here's what happens when you perform these steps... The utility changes your existing Airport network to 2.5 Ghz, and then creates a new 5 Ghz network with the new name. (It will apply the same password to both.) You will use the 5 Ghz network, the new name, for any new wireless computers using Leopard or newer OS. You will use the 2.5 Ghz network (bearing the original network name) for the older laptops running Tiger. This fix worked immediately, no problems. The issue is that Tiger does not perform well with 5 Ghz networks, and this causes the kernel panics. I now have two old G4 laptops running Tiger, both using my new Airport base station with the 2.5 Ghz network and running perfectly. At the same time, my new machine is using the 5 Ghz network at the same time. It seems quite stable. Good luck, and I hope this info is useful. -

Most of the dictation pros have a high quality Sony mic or otherwise that hooks thru USB
