NuBee: Brushing in presets?

I've just upgraded to the trial a3 and so far like (most of) what I see.
I'd like to be able to brush in or brush away the effects of a preset from portions of an image and can't figure out if this is possible or is it strictly a whole image concept. Anyone know the trip or have a work around?
For example, if I want to apply sepia to everything except a face. (I know, why would I? lol)
Thanks in adance

saddact,
How about the "Black and White" adjustment? You can turn any adjustment into a brush in Aperture 3, as long as the image was imported with Aperture 3.

  • Texture attributes not saving with an Art History brush tool preset.

    I am sure that in the past Texture settings saved when I loaded a saved Art History Brush tool preset.  But suddenly, the Texture setting - specifically Depth, is not being remembered.  In other words - I have saved an Art History Brush as a Tool Preset. I have then used some other brushes and experimented with texture including the Depth setting.  When I go back to the saved tool preset, the Texture Depth setting has changed to whatever it was when I last used it - not its saved value.  I thought the point of Tool Presets is that they save all brush characteristics.  Maybe I have got this wrong.
    Help or info would be much appreciated.  I'm using CS6.
    ...this is weird.  The tool presets and their Texture attributes work fine in CS5.  Maybe I need to reinstall CS6.

    ...I reinstalled CS6 and imported old preferences.  The problem of reluctant attributes persisted after installation.  The answer appears to have been to reset the preferences.  Texture settings now behaving themselves.   I should have tried this first.  Oh well.

  • Create Brush Tool preset without color assignment

    I want a Brush tool preset which uses the CURRENT foreground color, not the color at the time of the preset creation.
    I DO want the preset to remember the SIZE and type of brush, but use the Current Foreground color...
    Is there a way to do this?

    When you save a New Tool Preset there is a check box in the name dialog to either include color or not. If you uncheck that box a brush tool preset will use the foreground color.

  • Brush 'Tool Presets' not resizing and behaving erratically.

    Hello all,
    I'm running Ps CS6 Extended on a Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. My problem is that suddenly my brush 'tool presets' seem to have gone crazy. Standard pencil brushes won't resize (in fact anything with a texture ticked on in the brush panel seems to be having trouble) and others are just spitting out plain old rubbish.
    I haven't updated anything or run anything different.. It just seemed to happen and now won't go back...
    Is this an issue that anyone has encountered before? Let me know what other info would be helpful to fully explain the issue...
    A similar thing did happen with one random brush ages ago. I couldn't resolve it so I just ignored it. But now my whole set is messed up. It's weird...

    Thanks, Trevor.
    I've tried, restarting everything. I've tried opening the .tpl's in an older version of Photoshop that I have (CS5.1 Extended) - and they work fine (that version also has Colourus 2 and Perspective Create extensions that I have on CS6), so I know the .tpl's are sound and the brush info is saved correctly in them.
    I tried 'reset brushes' in the tool preset drop down menu... But I don't know what "reset Preferences" is - should I be looking in Photoshop>Preferences...?
    I tried 'reset tool' but that just makes the brushes go back to their earliest round brush form.
    Any other ideas? Thanks for thinking on this...

  • Associate Brush/Tool Preset with Layer

    I know there's a way to do this via scriptinglistener, so I figured I'd post it here. Wondering if there's a way to select a brush or tool preset automatically whenever you select a layer.
    For example, there are 2 layers:
    'Airbrush' - I only want to use the tool preset 'MyAirbrush' on this layer and never use any other brush or tool preset
    'Pastel' - I only want to use the tool preset 'MyPastel' on this layer and never use any other brush or tool preset
    So, when I select the layer 'Airbrush', it will automatically select the tool preset 'MyAirbrush' along with it. And whenever I switch to the layer 'Pastel', it will automatically select the tool preset 'MyPastel'. This would eliminate having to select the tool preset after selecting the layer (no big deal but could save time and eliminate a step)
    Like I said I can acheive it via scriptinglistener, but then it becomes confusing because instead of simply switching layers in the layer panel, I'd have to run the script instead, and each script would reflect only one individual layer and the tool preset to go with it- I'd have to create a script for every layer doing it this way - not feasible. I was wondering if there was another way to do it somewhere in Photoshop, such as 'link tool preset to layer' or 'associate tool preset with layer'
    thanks!

    function _selectLayerHandler(desc) {
      var layerName = app.activeDocument.activeLayer.name;
      switch( layerName ){
          case "Airbrush": selectPreset('Airbrush-Grainy Opaque'); break;
          case "Pastel": selectPreset('Angle - Flat Opaque'); break;
    function selectPreset(presetName) {
        var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
            var ref = new ActionReference();
            ref.putName( stringIDToTypeID( "toolPreset" ), presetName);
        desc.putReference( charIDToTypeID( "null" ), ref );
        executeAction( charIDToTypeID( "slct" ), desc, DialogModes.NO );
    try {
      if (arguments.length >= 2) {
        var desc = arguments[0];
        var event = arguments[1];
        if (event == charIDToTypeID('slct')) {
          var ref = desc.getReference(charIDToTypeID('null'));
          var cls = ref.getDesiredClass();
          if (cls == charIDToTypeID('Lyr ')) {
            _selectLayerHandler(desc);
    } catch (e) {
      alert( "Error: " + e + ":" + e.line );

  • In lightroom, is there a way to create a preset where a brush is automatically run?

    In lightroom, is there a way to create a preset where a brush is automatically run? Example: If I make multiple different brush adjustments on an image, and I want the exact same edit on another image, can I create a preset for that?

    Hi Heather,
    Lr does not (natively) support saving brushes in presets, but it's a UI limitation, not an "under the hood" problem.
    You can add brush strokes (or spot removals, or .. ) to a preset using a script I wrote (and offer for free), called
    'Add Spots Or Paint To Preset'

  • I can't adjust my Brush Presets in Photoshop CC when using a Wacom Intuos 2 Tablet.

    Hi.... I hope someone out there can help me with this. I'm using Photoshop CC with an Wacom Intros 2 Tablet.   I want my Brush Tool preset to be "Soft Round" so I can create smooth consistently shaped lines when clicking & dragging along the straight edge of a selection.
    When I attempt to do this in the Brush Presets Panel it seems to be locked on "Shape Dynamics" with Pen Pressure control.  Whenever I switch both of these off & try to create a different brush preset it will automatically jump back in to the same settings, even after locking the Brush Preset & creating a new Brush. What I end up with when clicking & dragging is a fine point at one end of the line & a soft round brush effect at the other end.  Very frustrating!  I don't have this problem when using a Mouse, and a friend who is using Photoshop CS5 with an Intros 2 tablet is not having this issue either.  Is this just another one of the few glitches I've noticed with Photoshop CC?  Or am I overlooking something?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Stroke thumbnail view in brush presets panel in CS6 doesn't represent pressure sensitivity

    Everytime I open photoshop the stroke thumbnail shows up with lost settings.  I can hover my pen over brush presets and press ctrl+F1 and it will change back but when i open up photoshop cs6 it does not show what the brush setting are with the stroke thumnail and I have to do it again. I know how to correct it temporarily but I would like a permanent fix for this as it is quite annoying. I have tried to open it with just my pen from my tablet and it does not help. I am running windows 7. cintiq tablet.

    Hey JJMack!
    Thank you for your response! Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be my issue. I actually think I may be running into a bug with PS6. It seems like the stroke thumbnail preview might not be receiving the information that there is pressure sensitivity turn on my cintiq.
    Here is an example below..
    As you can see here the brush I have selected obviously has pressure sensitivity and PS6 is recognizing that. But for some reason that information is not being communicated to the stroke thumbnail preview.
    What's even weirder is when you go into that brush's presets the preview below shows the stroke thumbnail fine!
    I am wondering if maybe I have some weird preference turned on hidden away somewhere... or if this is an actual bug with the program.
    thanks guys!

  • Suggestion: Mixer brush presets needs to be more informative.

    Suggestion: Mixer brush´s Preset previews should have a text description of the brush behavior.
    Now the preview of the brush stroke don´t say nothing about how the brush works.
    Does it smear the paint underneath or not? It is just a blender brush?...
    I know I can see the brush parameters in the brush panel but reading those require too much effort for a good work flow,
    and reading the brush name in the flying label is not quick enough.
    Maybe you can enhance the thumnail preview, but if not, allowing adding text should be enough.
    Thank you.
    (In my opinion, of course)

    Thanks for the suggestion! We will put it on our list to evaluate.

  • The presets and brushes I installed are not showing up.

    I have installed lightroom 5 on my windows 8 PC. I had lightroom on my previous laptop, which was also windows, and had to purchase it again. Anyway, I installed some brushes and presets on it and they will not show up anywhere. I've done this before and never had any issues. I have googled everything and am coming up with nothing. Can you please help me?

    What version of PSE? And is this on a mac? If so you never, never, never want to put ANYTHING in the system folder.

  • Photoshop CC Not Remebering Brush Preset Color

    Hi everyone,
    im having an issue with CC with my brush presets not remembering the color.  I've created 4 brush presets (see pics for settings) of which i checked on the "Include Color" to include the default black & white for every brush preset.
    aside from the opacity and flow (marked by the two numbers following the brush name respectively) the brush presets are identical.  they're all the same size and have all the same tip shapes.  However, the program is not remembering the color of the brushes and always defaults to black/black or white/white.
    i've gone as far as resetting all my preferences in CC and recreating my workspace, keyboard shortcuts and menus with no luck.  these brushes always default to the black/black or white/white brush color.
    please help, this is a really annoying bug i just can't figure out.

    hey M Shaw,
    yes, im trying to set the both the default Foreground/Background color in the specific Tool Presets as the system default (Black/White).
    In other words, i'd like to default the color to Black Foreground/White Background every time i choose one of my Brush Tool Presets.
    I work in and out of masks frequently so i like having the default Brush Tool Preset colors to be Black & White.  That way, i can just toggle between my Foreground & Background color to work within the mask.  the issue im having is that when i do choose one of my Brush Tool Presets, it's for some reason not remembering my Black & White preference.  it seems to default to black & black.  does that help?  i hope im explaining myself okay:p

  • Can't keep brush presets in preferred size order

    I know this is anal, but I like to keep my brush presets arranged in order of size from larger to smaller, top to bottom. Now, after using CS3 for about 6 months, then adding OS 10.5.5, I can't keep them in order. It's like the battery is dying or something. Every time I start up Photoshop, that is every day, I have to go into the Presets Manager and rearrange everything all over again. It's driving me crazy. Note: they always de-arrange into the same order; maybe it's the order I originally wrote them in. I don't know. I don't care. What do I have to do? I'm on a G5 PM 2GHz w/ 1.5 GB RAM.

    Thanks for the post. I dug in a bit further. To recap: I've arranged the tool/brush presets just so. If I quit Photoshop, restart or shutdown, upon start, the presets have reverted to a different order. Always the same order, just not the order I left them in. Every single time. The battery is fine. I tested it. Time and date are fine, and all other PRAM details are OK. I keep a Test User, tried that, and I get the same problem. I don't use the bracket keys. I Called Adobe TS and the agent assured me, after on-the-spot testing, that no version of CS in combo with Tiger or Leopard has EVER maintained a list of brush presets in a specific order. All I can say to that is, quote: "Horse puckey", unquote. IF that is the case, then A: What the heck is the Preset Manager for? B: what was happening here in my computer for the past ten years or so? and C: If the Preset Manager can manage to keep the brush SIZE presets arranged in the user-defined sequence ad nauseum, why is it impossible to keep the brush TOOL presets in a user-defined sequence? Can anybody help? I'm getting tired of poking the Preset Manager every day.

  • Difference between a brush and a tool preset

    Hi folks,
    I know this is a rookie question, so please bear with me.
    A friend just sent me a .tpl fiile, and I put it into my tool preset folder.  It is a fantastic brush/pencil.  My question is:  the .tpl file, when I loaded it, seemed to have a brush texture associated with it already.  Is that true?  Or were the tool presets simply being added to a standard brush?  If that is true, when I select the preset from the tool preset dropdown on the tool bar, how do I know what brush that preset is applied to?
    In short, I guess I don't understand how a preset can be applied to a brush that isn't in my current brush set.
    Thanks for any help!
    dppc

    It would appear a Tool Preset can contain a Brush tip without it being represented in the Brush Presets Panel.
    Just look at the size of a single Tool Preset saved out compared to the Brush Preset of the same Brush Preset saved out.

  • Brush Disappears with Increased Brush Size

    Having issues with my news CS4. When I increase my brush size, no matter if it's an eraser, stamp tool or anything else, the brush cursor or "circle" starts to disappear once the brush is more than 175 pixels in diameter. I've checked preferences and the brush tool presets and cannot find why this is happening.
    How do I fix this?

    Update your video card drivers.
    This is a well documented problem. Also ensure that you have installed the Photoshop 11.0.1 patch.
