Saludos!

  • New Intel Core i7 Haswell

Recently had a system fail and would like to build a new system.  I've been torn between waiting on the new Intel Haswell CPU's vs either the Intel Core i7-3770k or Intel Core i7-2600K.
I'm looking for system for multi use.  I have been doing scuba diving video on Premier Pro and may look towards a new camera down the road.
    Your comments are appreciated.

Just a final note:  I've decided to go with the processor that so many like in this forum.  The PC will be for multi use.
    Intel Cor i7-3930K Hexa-Core Processor 3.2 Ghz LGA 11
    Corsair Vengeance 32 GB 4x8GB
    Noctua NHY-D14 Quite Cooler
    Asus P9X79 Pro LGA 2011 Intel X79
    Windows 8 Pro OEM
SamSung Electronics 840 Pro Series 256 GB
Cooler Maxter HAF XM - Mid tower Case
LG Electronics 14x Sata Blue-ray Internal Rewriter
Gigabyte GTX 650 Ti Boost GDDR5-2GB
    2 Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HDD Sata 6 Gb/s
Existing Drives that I would like to encorporate into the new system:
    WD Raptor 500 GB
    2 Samsung 1 TB HDD Sata 3 GB/s
    1 Samsung 1 TB HDD Sata 3 GB/s
I am now looking for some direction on configuration of the drives.  I could purchase additional drives.
I am still thinking about the mid tower case.  I have a number of old videos of scuba diving trips that I can store on external drives.  My space under a glass desk involves a smaller metal bracket which I can remove.  I have thought of a full size case and if so would like roller wheels on the bottom of the case.
    Thank you for your input.

  • How repair failed bios flash for MSI H81M-E33 w/Intel Pentium G3220 Haswell 2Cor

my msi h81m-e33 w/ intell g3220 haswell dual core 3.0 ghz no longer posts  or displays anything after power on after flashing bios with msi update 6.0  Could someone walk me thru repairing this?

    Try >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Also try without GPU, with 1 RAM stick and without hard drives following >>Clear CMOS Guide<< again.
If that fails then sadly it's bricked and either you have to send it to MSI for them to reflash it (costs may apply) or go to near IT services and ask if they're able to reflash it.

  • Win 7 64-bit, Intel 4600 graphics hangs when running Punch home design software

Punch Home and Landscape Pro V17.7 runs great on T500 Win 7 32-bit... all rendering is quick and accurate. This same design program opens, but hangs immediately when any attempt is made to modify the design.
I have posted to the Punch support site. When I called Tec, he said that my version would run on 32-bit or 64-bit machine.
It appears all program components are in the Programs (x86) directory and the Registry seems to have the proper paths and entries (beyond my level of expertise to modify.)
I also read the post regarding the latest Intel Iris 4600 driver on the Intel website, and I could follow this procedure to install the latest driver... but I would be DOWN if the driver did not work.
So, anyone have any ideas as to the proper steps to solve this issue?
    DRC

I see. Unfortunately you can't install the generic Intel driver on Haswell systems without losing brightness control. (You can still try installing it using Device Manager > Have Disk.)
Which version of the driver are you running now?

  • [SOLVED] Seg fault on Haswell processor (TSX+glibc)

    Hello,
I just installed ArchLinux on a brand new Intel i7 4770S (Haswell) because my old laptop was unable to handle HD content properly under Kdenlive. I have the exact package versions on both machines but when disabling a simple effect in Kdenlive I get a seg fault.
You can see my bug report on Kdenlive bug tracker here: http://www.kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=3186
I then looked at the trace and found this stuff about lock elision that seems very (hardware) specific to Haswell CPU.
    http://lwn.net/Articles/534758/
    http://halobates.de/adding-lock-elision-to-linux.pdf
    http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n … px=MTQzNDk
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/6290/maki … tensions/2
I looked at the PKGBUILD for the current glibc 2.18-9 and it has the  "--enable-lock-elision" so I used ABS to recompile it without support for it to see if it would make my Kdenlive work again. And yes problem is gone.
Is this a problem with Kdenlive code or lock elision implementation in current glibc?   Don't know if this is related but I also had some issues with Digikam when using the default glibc.
    Thanks

I've managed to fix it by appending --opencc-options -OPT:Olimit=99999 to nvcc's compiling flags. It compiles and executes fine. Even though that's still a bug (no program should seg fault).

  • Update kernel and recieved a "Machine check error"

I was on Vacation this last weekend but was finally able to update today. Upgrade seemd fine, issued reboot command and instead of my normal reboot I was greeted with "machine check error" flashing in my upper left hand corner. Syslinux never came up. I powered off manually and pulled the battery, subsequent reboot went off without a hitch.

I have never seen this error and my googlefu return issues with overclocking which I am not doing. Any info on the subject I'd love to hear.
    Cheers.
EDIT: Was only happening when issuing 'systemctl reboot' so I switched back to 3.10.10-1-ARCH and reboot command now works.

Well, I can tell you that this kind of error is not OS related, but rather a HW thing.  It happens where there is a general detection of something going wrong.  Sometimes it can happen randomly and might not be an indication of a problem.  But sometimes it can be caused by things that are improperly functioning within the system like bad capacitors.
Unfortunately I don't really know what to do about such things except give you machine a proper inspection.  But if things are working fine, and continue to do so, I wouldn't worry about it.  If it becomes a regular occurance, then I'd worry.

  • How do I fix Hard Drive Bottle Necking?

    I'm running:
    SanDisk 480gb SSD - OS
    6 3TB Western Digital Internal 7600RPM Drives
    Intel i7 4770K Haswell 3.5GHz CPU
    MSI Z87 XPower Mobo
3 MSI Gaming N760 Video Cards (Running in triple SLI)
    32gb G. Skill Trident X RAM
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Right now I'm rendering a 3:04 project and it's barely halfway after two hours. Seems like the remaining time stays at 1hr 30mins indefinitely. I don't think it's a processor issue as it's only running at 15% right now and my RAM is running at 60% right now (this is with other apps running). So I think my problem is the hard drives. I need to learn or find out how I can utilize my disks more effectively. Can I install another SSD strictly for Caching? (Also, how would I setup AE/PP to do that?).
The project, media, and render output are going to the same drive which I'm pretty sure is not optimal. But, I don't know any better and can't find the information I need on the forum or on the web. Can someone post links or tell me what the best way to setup my projects would be? Obviously I have plenty of space to arrange this however would be best. Any help is awesome!

For me it occurred after this update..... I dunno why , but openbox wouldn't load, kde would, however
Guess it's due to the mesa update and using the legacy nvida-173xx driver

  • System freeze after resume from suspend to RAM

    Hi,
since quite a while (probably ever) I am unable to suspend my computer to RAM because everytime it freezes a few seconds after resuming, never to become alive again until a reboot. After some investigation, I managed to get kernel logs by taking a picture of my screen. The logs were not written to disk, hence I didn't see anything before. I had to write these by hand, I hope I didn't insert any mistakes:

This issue seems to be related to disk failures like bad sectors but I am quite sure, that my SSDs are in a good shape. I ran some SMART tests, they all turned out to be okay. Suspending from my dual-booted Windows works fine as well (although if the bad sector would be on the linux partition, it would probably not affect Windows).
    Here's my setup:

I am not sure which one of the disks causes the freeze but I assume it's the revodrive because the logs talk about two drives. The Revodrive internally holds two drives, which are set up to operate in a RAID 0. Windows is installed on the Corsair drive, and has no access to the Revodrive. However, I used to run Windows on the Revodrive a few years ago, and it worked just fine.
Another interesting thing is that when I try to test suspend to RAM, the system does not freeze, nor produce errors. This only happens if none is written to /sys/power/pm_test (which means no automated wake-up, no testing).
Any ideas on how I could narrow down this issue? Thanks a lot!
    EDIT
I just checked and confirmed that this issue is originating from the OCZ Revodrive:

Thank you for the link, unfortunally I don't have a NVIDIA card but use the Intel IGP (HD4600, Haswell) - maybe I should have mentioned that...
And other than in this bug report I cannot kill X or anything because neither other TTYs work - I cannot input anything (although the hotkeys work weird enough) nor is SSHD running because the system is completely frozen...
Very funny thing is that for the last 2 days my system didnt freeze once (suspended about 6-7 times during one boot), even though for the 2 weeks prior to that, it froze EVERY SINGLE TIME I resumed from suspend, it didnt work once...

  • Problems with my computer (USB 3.0 and LAN)

    Hi there,
A few months ago i have built my own computer. I selected the parts and asked if it will work together with no problems.
After I built it and installed Windows 8.1 I detected that almost everything worked. Only the USB 3.0 did not work properly but I had no big worries because it was no big issue for me.
Today I decided to use a LAN connection (cable) instead of using a WIFI adapter. I found that the computer didn't detect the cable. First I thought that there was no signal trough the cable so I checked it. I put the cable in my Playstation 3 and did a Internet test. Everything worked. So I found it strange that the cable didn't worked in the computer (same cable as playstation). I searched the internet if I had installed the correct drivers. After looking in Device manager I found that there was no Internet adapter connected (I disconnected my WIFI adapter). Up to now I didn't resolved the problem but I tried a lot of things.
For the USB 3.0, I found that there is an unkown device (device manager) and when I let it search for the proper driver it says that it don't have enough information.
The name for the device is: USB xHCI-compatible hostcontroller (translated from Dutch). In the BIOS it detects which component I connect to the USB 3.0 Slot but when I am in windows (8.1), It says nothing (not even a sound that it's connected). So I think it is something with the drivers or chipset??
    Parts of my computer:
    Intel I5 4670K (Haswell) (Socket 1150)
    MSI GTX 770
    2x Ballistix 4GB RAM memory
    Samsung EVO 120GB SSD
    Seagate 1TB HDD
    MSI B85M-G43
Case is an Fractal Design R4 windowed black
    My questions
    - How do I install the Networkcard properly
    - How do I install the USB 3.0 Properly
I would appreciate it if you could solve the problems for me!
    Already thanks!
    Jur

Can you share the screen shot of the device manager?
According to B85M-G43, it is equipped with 4 x USB 3.0 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 2 ports available through the Intel USB connectors)
No need to install USB 3.0 driver in WIN8.1 just in-box is okay.
Did you tried the LAN driver from the website?

  • Macbook will not update from 10.9.3 to 10.9.5

My macbook wont update. In the "About This Mac" window it says I have version 10.9.3, and in the App Store it says I have updated to version 10.9.5 on 4 different dates (which I have tried to do). It also states that there are no new updates availeable.
Also; I keep getting this message when I try to enter network preferences: "There was an error in Network preference pane.". As a result I can only connect to networks that have already been registered, and sometimes I have to restart to connect after sleep.
    What should I do?

  • All in one question

    Hi,
I have the Pavilion 23t all in one computer. I was reading around on the net about how to upgrade the graphics card, however alot were saying its impossible... (at least from what I read). I hope this is the correct to place to ask this, but is there anyway to use an external graphics card, preferably the Geforce GTX drive as I have Geforce GT now. Or at this point is it even possible? I love my all in one, but for gaming its just not as great with the new games coming out.

Boot Logic without the CoreAudio driver enabled. After double-clicking your file hold CTRL. Logic will ask you if you want to boot CoreAudio. Answer no. The session will load with all of your plugs and VI's x'd out. Once the session is open and all of the MIDI dialogs etc. go away, open up the audio preferences, uncheck, then recheck enable. Logic will ask you if you want to 'Try Relaunch' of the CoreAudio driver. Hit yes.
I've had a number of huge sessions that fall victim to very problem you're plagued with. I remember being quite angry when I couldn't boot after a clean close. This makes my sessions usable every time they are seemingly not.
The other tip that this forum has helped in keeping things running smoothly is the 'reorganize memory' function (dbl-click beneath the tempo). This little ditty's resurrected sessions that refuse to bounce (you know the ones that crash then take 6 minutes to reopen.)
Oh, and, oft times, the sessions that have trouble opening from scratch return to their normal state of content. The problem has something to do with Logic asking about MIDI connections after all of your VI's are loaded (I have a Tranzport that sits in the closet and never gets plugged in. When logic opens a session it automatically gets looked for. If the session's particularly big I can usually count on a crash.
    Hope it helps.

Seems like I missed that pip about rebooting with the control key down. Sorry to call on redundancy.
If I'm allowed to kick myself while I'm down, I wonder if when you boot without CoreAudio enabled do you get further in the load process than booting with CA enabled?

  • What is the transfer rate of the ata interface in hp pavillion g4-1117dx

I am looking at replacing hdd for my hp pavillion g4-1117dx with a ssd. I would like to know if the existing hdd interface copes with ssd's transfer rate at 6G? Thanks
    This question was solved.

    Ken.
If you have an Intel CPU this would apply to you.
DMI 2.0, introduced in 2011, doubles the transfer rate to 20 Gbit/s with a ×4 link. It is used to link an Intel CPU with the Intel Platform Controller Hub (PCH), which supersedes the historic northbridge/southbridge implementation.[2]:14
DMI 3.0, promising speeds of up to 8 GT/s, will be used by two-chip variants of the upcoming Intel Skylake microprocessors, which will be used in conjunction with Intel 100 Series chipsets; some variants of Skylake will have the PCH integrated onto the die effectively following a system-on-chip (SoC) design layout.[3]

6G transfer rate would be  no problem.

    Saludos
