Num-Lock Function

I have just purchased a brand new MacBook (basic but with 2 Gig processor and 2 Gig Memory). There is no num-lock function that I can find and the keys have no num-lock symbols on them. I've tried calling tech support 3 times and the guys can't seem to figure this one out. I've tried f6, fn+6, fn+f6 etc.
Does anyone know the answer to this mystery?

It's on page 22 here:

  • Caps/Num lock LED indicators not working in gnome

I have a qPad MK-85 mechanical keyboard, and I can't seem to get the LED status indicators for the lock keys to work.
The CAPS and NUM lock function still works, but I don't have any indication whether they'r'e on or not.
It only seems to be under gnome I have this problem, because they're working just fine in grub, windows, and tty2-6.
I have done a search and it seems a lot of other people with mechanical keyboards have the same problem, but no solutions.
So.. anyone here have any solutions?
Edit: tested in xfce, not working there either

  • Num lock is not working

I posted this message a while ago and just doing a follow up. Hope somebody's out there,
My num lock function is not working properly when I press the F6 button. It's a 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4, running Tiger OS 10.4.11. When I want to use the num lock, all of the num lock keys start working like a directional button and disables hot corners, the track pad and pretty much everything else except F1-12. The only way to regain control is to force quit the program that I originally started using it in. Any thoughts. Anyone?

How about removing the keyboard ... here's how to do that: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=95132 The article title is how to replace memory but it has the instructions for removing the keyboard also. Very handy article to save!
There might be dust or lint particles there. I use a can of compressed air with the keyboard ON about once a month or mine stick too. Maybe that will help.

  • Num lock stopped functioning on Qosmio F750

    Hello,
I have a Qosmio F750-11T. Four days ago I started up my laptop and found out my num lock stopped functioning. The led always lights up, but the buttons do not respond. I can't put the num lock off or on and I can 't produce any numbers anymore with it (nor use the pgup, pgdn buttons when it should be off).
I read some stuff on the (.com) forum and updated the BIOS to the latest version, rebooted it, but nothing helps.
I bought the laptop just 3 months ago. I would appreciate if somebody could help me out with this.
    Thank you!

Best thing you can do is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Im pretty sure they will exchange keyboard and everything will be OK again. Notebook is pretty new with valid warranty so you must not pay for keyboard exchange.

  • CPU not functional - 1 blink of caps and num lock

I have HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook
It started giving me blank screen with caps lock and num lock blinking, and I went to the HP support and found out that it has something to do with "CPU not functional" thing. I have to say this diagnosis is bogus and on HP site it says I have to contact HP support for this, and when I go to contact HP support they said my warranty has ended so I cannot even send them an email about it except come to this forum again post my grievance. It seems this error is happening to many customers, and if I remember correctly CPU is not something that will go wrong suddenly, maybe the motherboard or battery, but all hardware parts not the CPU. It seems there is a known issue with DV series of notebooks where this blinking is happening. To your surprise I'm now using the same laptop to post this while the lights are still blinking. The best place HP support directed me was either to pay for service or to contact recycling, REALLY? Is this really the award-winning support HP has. I am dismayed with the intricacy the site has in getting your problems heard by HP and get a resolution. So here I am asking for the community forum if they have fixed their laptops after getting the famous "CPU not functional" error.
And now before I submit this, the cpu fan has started to make very scary noises, just like a small motor bike, somebody please help me.

  • How do I toggle num lock in Windows 7 via Boot Camp 4.0 on a MacBook Pro (Late 2011)?

Is there a keyboard shortcut to enable num lock on the MacBook Pro 2011 (Late) in Windows 7 via Boot Camp 4.0?  I have a mouse with a numpad mapping on the side of it.  When I press the number keys, the cursor responds in the way one would expect it to with the num lock off (ie, 6 moves it right, 4 moves it left, etc); however, I need to use it to produce numbers.
I have read http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1220, which covers the previous MBP keyboard (on which the F6 key function was numlock), but I can't find any information regarding the possibility of doing this with the new MBP model keyboard (on which the F6 key function is increasing the keyboard backlight).  Any thoughts?  Suggestions?

I was looking for this answer and found it on another site. I realize this is an old thread, but just in case someone else stumbles here and needs to do it, here's how to turn numlock on or off in Windows, and to make it stick:
    Run Registry Editor (RegEdit)
In Windows 8 or earlier you can press Command-R, then type regedit
In Win7 or earlier, you can also just click Start menu, and type regedit in the search field.
In the Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> Keyboard
Within the Keyboard folder, you should have an entry named InitialKeyboardIndicators. Set the "Data" value accordingly:
0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after login
    1 = Disable Num Lock
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the login
    I hope this helps.

  • Num Lock Pad Doesn't Work With Fill In Forms

I have Adobe XI, running Windows * and IE 11. Num Lock key pad does not work with fill in forms.  Can anyone help?

Sounds like you are using a third-party keyboard: the new Apple keyboards do not have a Num Lock key and the numeric keypad always functions as such.
If you're using a third-party keyboard, and if you installed vendor-provided software to customize the keyboard, check its preferences and also check the vendor's Web site to see if there is an updated version of the software for your keyboard.
I cannot reproduce the problem using the latest model of Apple Pro keyboard (the one that came with my computer, which is the same as your computer).
    2. You might also want to state the specific keyboard and version of Excel you are using in case someone else has the same configuration and can try to reproduce the problem. I tried it with Excel from Office v.X.
    3. You wrote: "* Deleted Excel Preferences"Both of them, yes?

  • Can't get my number pad to work - No Num Lock

    Hello,
I recently got my iMac with the wireless keyboard and noticed that I can not get my number pad to work. There is no num lock button to turn on/off, just the clear button. Can someone help me figure this out? Thanks
    Jay

This is from the built-in Mac Help.
    Hope it works for you.
    My numeric keypad doesn't work
The way the numeric keypad works depends on your computer, the keyboard you're using, the application you're working in, and whether the Num Lock key is engaged. Usually, the numeric keypad is used to enter numbers in a document, but in some applications you might be able to use the keypad to navigate (move around in) your document.
Press the Num Lock key to switch between the ways the numeric keypad functions.
If you have a separate numeric keypad on your keyboard, the Num Lock key is located in the numeric keypad. If you're using a portable computer, the Num Lock is a function key, marked Num Lock (F6). If your keyboard has a separate keypad but no Num Lock key, try pressing Shift-Clear.
Most portables have a group of keys on the keyboard that can function as the numeric keypad. To find the keypad, look for small numbers or symbols in the lower-right corner of keys on the right side of your keyboard. Press the Num Lock key (F6) to turn on the keypad. The green light glows on the Num Lock key when the keypad is active.

  • 12/27/07 update and Caps/Num Lock

I'm not positive that the update came out today, but it's when I found it and downloaded it. Upon the restart, my Num Lock light was on and so was Caps Lock. I thought it was odd, but I turned them off and didn't think about it.
Gee. Big surprise. The update managed to reverse the functions of these two buttons. If they turned OFF, i.e., the lights are OFF ... then the lock function is on. So if the caps lock light is OFF, caps lock is ON. Same thing for Num Lock.
Now, I like the little green lights myself, but I'm afraid to find out what else is reversed and screwed up.
I so regret paying for a family license pack. Particularly since I have not upgraded the other computers in the house after all the troubles I've had with Leopard.
    sigh

and you did the recent security update, too?
    EDIT:
Well, after the third restart, the issue seems to have resolved. Bizarre.

  • Num Lock

    Hello,
I just bought an iBook and I'm wondering if it is possible that if Num Lock is on, you still can use the other "free" keys, because I need this for a music-program (Sibelius)?
    Marleen Palinckx
    P.S.: I have searched for it, but I didn't find a "Delete"-key %-)

    Folks
Can anyone tell me if they've come across a numeric keypad that works with the music software Sibelius, and with the macbook pro? I've tried some on which some, but not all, of the keys work.
Please help - I've tried calling Sibelius with no luck.
Also, what are some good numeric keypads that work with the mac and macbook pro? I'd be willing to go out and try some that are suggested to see if they are compatible with the software..
    thanks
p.s it's too cumbersome and time consuming to have to hit function everytime to get the numbers on the keyboard to work, as many of you have found, I'm sure

  • My scroll/num lock is not enabled

i am unable to used my scroll/ num lock button for My HP pavilion dv4t-1600 laptop. how do i enable it especially when i want to work with the number.

    Hey Omamo,
What operating system are you using? Is it only these two buttons you are having an issue with? Make sure all your other keys are working. On this laptop is the scroll lock and number lock two seperate keys or are they combined? I would go ahead and double check all the keys to make sure everything functioning properly. Let me know if you see any other issues with other keys and we will go from there.
    Thanks
    Sean

  • Num Lock Light Indication

Hello,           I just bought HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p212nx, which seems very nice but I did'nt find the Num Lock Indication. I have checked also some forums and the only solution is to go for third party solution providers like Tray Status.  Is there any other way to have a num lock indication same like LIGHT. if not then how HP neglect such an important function.  Thanks in advance.  Regards Umair

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your Looking at your manual  page 11, for your Notebook shows me that the keypad function that is active when the computer is turned off is reinstated when the computer is turned back on. This is the design of the Notebook. There is no light for this function as per the design. Thanks.

  • Detecting engaged num lock

I have a brand new envy dv6.  I can't tell if the num lock is engaged.   I don't see any indicator light as I'm acustomed to seeing.   How can I tell if num lock is engaged or off?  In any number of pw's I have a numberal(s).  My entries are often rejected *because* num lock of off and the key pad is not entering a number.  Please help.

Thanks for trying to help.  I do know to toggle the num lock key.  Problem is that unlike every other computer I've used previously, I can't find an indicator light anywhere -- the key itself, the keys along the top to the keyboard (etither side of the function keys etc.).   I was assuming there's an indictor somewhere and I just need to find it.
Do you know where?  Does anyone know where?

  • Laptop num lock

Recently between neighbors and family we purchased 6 hp laptops. None have a num key indicator??? Cap lock light is there. Wifi connection light is there probably more but no Num Lock indicator. What's the deal. It can't be that expensive. And it's a useful light.

    Hi Baileyreneehill,
Normally only a big form factor notebook like 17" platform, which has extra key pad, has the number lock function.  The Envy 6 sleekbook has not this button for it. Check your teacher for other alternative.
