would like to know the max.character limit of query transform section in the search schema of my search serv appln.
I have created some 40+ site collections and hence 40+ results sources need to be created. so is there any maximum limit of this textbox?

If possible, I would suggest that you upgrade to the latest release: 11.2.0.2.0. It has many bugfixes and enhancements.
There is no limit on the number of optionals per query. I suspect that the use of the same new variables (?avgrec and ?maxrec) in the parallel optional clauses is the reason you are seeing the error in this particular case. If you use different variable names does the error go away? If needed, you can use a coalesce in the outer SQL SELECT to get the same behavior as before (e.g. COALESCE(avgrec1, avgrec2) as avgrec).

When we say we limit the number of connections to 10 in Flash Media Development Server, we mean that we allow 10 successful connections and reject 11th connection onwards. So at anypoint of time your server can have only 10 active connections. When there are 10 active connections and a 11th client tries to connect to the server, the connection is rejected with reason "NetConnection.Connect.Rejected - [ License.Limit.Exceeded ] : (_defaultRoot_, _defaultVHost_) : Max connections allowed exceeds license limit. " and these details are logged at the server side core.log too

How do I limit the number of characters allowed in an input form and then how do I limit the number of lines?

I'm selling Classified Advertising in a newspaper and I want my visitor to be able to enter their own ads.
They need to be limited to 30 characters/line with a limit of 4 lines. (120 characters total).
How can I use html or css to limit the input to 30 characters per line and then limit them to 4 lines?
Is that possible?

I would place 4 text fields and use the maxlength attribute. Setting maxlength="30" will stop any more than 30 characters from being entered into any given text field...

What is the maximum number of characters allowed for an e-mail account password?

By trial and error I found that 11 characters were too many and 9 characters are OK. I suppose the limit is probably 10 but why does the iPad just tell me that I have too many characters in stead of complaining about my User Account or Password being wrong and causing me to waste a few hours trying to chase down e-mail configuration options?
I hope this posting will save others some pain.

Not all email providers have the same password requirements. Without knowing who your email provider is, your information is of minimal use.

Max Number of apps allowed on the phone

I heard some where that the max number of pages is 9. So, if you download a bunch of free apps and some paid apps, where does the apps go after 9 pages? I wish the next update from apple includes a filing tool. It would be nice to put apps in a folder in a similar catagory in the app store. For examples, all games in the game folder.

It will slow down the backups when you sync. Having lots of apps will not slow down the iPhone, since only one app can run at a time, and the size of the apps are tiny - most are less than 1 MB (i.e. you would be hard-pressed to come anywhere close to filling your iPhone with apps).

Depending on the OS of the client, that information may not be collected by default.
Rather than collecting all of the HotfixID class, instead, consider using DCM for this single HotfixID.

Is there a limit to characters in the Header/Footer section of a region?

I have a js scripts that I placed in the Header/Footer Section of a particalur reason.
It is quiet a lengthly script but when I click apply changes I get the following APEX error message.
ORA-20001: Error in DML: p_rowid=641043905163928761, p_alt_rowid=ID, p_rowid2=, p_alt_rowid2=. ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
Is this message cause by a limit on the number of characters and if so could there not be a limit on the number of characters allowed in the input box with a counter so that the user is aware that there is a limit.

Yes, there is a limit. May I ask why you want to put the script into the region footer or
header? I put the long code into a file on the file system and then reference it from the
page.

APEX Supplied HTML Editor (fckeditor) - Limit number of characters

Has anyone found a way of limiting the number of characters allowed in the HTML Editor that is supplied with APEX (3.1/fckeditor)
I have had a look at the fckeditor web page and found a couple of plugins but I fear that this approach will require me to manually implement fckeditor, and not use the inbuilt one.
I would also prefer to not do this with an application process as the user can overflow the editor and get the HTTP-400 Value param too long error.

interestingly enough, the reference guide for CMIS ( http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/CMIS_Query_Language ) that I found does not mention the COUNT function at all. On the other hand it states that: "The SELECT clause identifies which virtual columns to return in the result set. It can be either a comma-separated list of one or more queryNames of properties that are defined by queryable object types or * for all virtual columns."
There are, however, some other posts like e.g. http://alfrescoshare.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/count-the-total-number-of-documents-in-alfresco-using-sql/ which state that they could make it working.
Having asked in the WebCenter Portal forum, I assume that your content repository is WebCenter Content. The CMIS doc for the Content is available here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e15813.pdf (no COUNT there either). It does, however, mention explicitly that "CMIS queries return a Result Set where each Entry object will contain only the properties that were specified in the query.". This means your could rather investigate the Result Set. Note that there are also other means than CMIS how to get the requested result set (e.g. calling a search service directly via so-called RIDC).
In the given context I am also interested what your use case is. OOTB CMIS in WebCenter Portal is used, for instance, in Content Presenter, where it is content rather than "parameters" what's displayed.

Coding - returning the number of characters in a text box.

I am in the process of creating a cell phone simulation/animation in Edge Animate CC for use in a Captivate course. Basically, when a user clicks on number buttons on the virtual keypad, it displays the numbers in a text box , just like an actual cell phone would display the phone number on the screen as a caller is dialing. So, the user would click seven buttons and a seven-digit phone number appears on the virtual phone screen. This part of my animation works great and all seven digits appear, but I would like to modify the code so that a hyphen appears after the third button clicked. This way, the output better resembles an actual phone number instead of just a string of seven digits.
Here is an example of the code I currently have assigned to the #2 button on the virtual keypad:

PhoneNum is the name of my text box on the stage where the digits appear as each keypad button is clicked.

Does anyone know how I can use either JavaScript or jQuery to return the number of characters currently in the PhoneNum text box?

Basically the thing to remember is that unless you are needing to pass html to the object, you can use text() instead. text() also gives you the raw text without any html formatting (so you can assume what .html() would return)

Analyze the Field Mapping in a Query Transform

My client is running Data Services 3.1 SP1 on WIndows Server 2003. They have the following scenario:
A data flow has muliple flat file source transforms of different file formats, each of which is connected to a query transform. On the output side of each query, new output columns have been defined, representing a standard house schema. For each query transform, they need to:
1) Compare the source fields to the query output fields, to determine which source fields have been mapped
2) Compare source/mapped field lengths to determine if a source field has been truncated.
I checked the script functions, but none of the functions are useful for this. Is there a way to get a query transform's output fields/lengths from the data Services local repository?

It may help to have Control Files for each source file as your source and compare it to the target schema structure to get the flags for truncates.
The Control File structure would be as such
FILENAME | COLUMN_NAME | DATA_TYPE | PRECISION | SCALE | LENGTH | IS_NULL | IS_PRIMARYKEY
The same Structure can be used for your target schema.
As for Identifying columns in the source that are not mapped to the target schema, I would gather the information at design time. I don't see an easy way of getting this informaiton from the Query transform.
May be you can try using the following views to see if you can utilize the local repository for some information.
ALVW_MAPPING
combined with ALVW_COLUMNINFO
and ALVW_TABLEINFO

Make sure you right click in the Local Object Library area and choose the option "Calculate column mappings" to populate the updated values into AL_COLMAP_TEXT that gives the expression used to map the source to the target. You will not see the Query tranform names in this text but see the source column with mapping type column showing values like Direct, Direct - Merged, Computed etc.

Count number of Characters in CLOB field

I posted this on another database, but I think it really belongs here. I have a CLOB field that stores reports in HTML markup languate. Here's an example of a report.

I'm trying to provide a query that counts the number of characters that is not a HTML tag nor whitespace. I've attempted to use a combination of the length and replace function which first replace all HTML tags and whitespaces with nothing and then uses length to calculate the number of characters. Here's what the function looks like.
<br><br>length(trim (both ' ' from replace (replace (replace(replace (replace(replace(replace(replace (replace(replace(replace (replace(replace (replace(reports.report_text ,'</head>',''),'</title>',''),'<body contenteditable="true" text="#000000" bgcolor="#ffffff">',''),'</body>',''),'</html>',''),'',''),'',''),'',''),'',''),'',''),'',''),'',''),'',''),'>','')))

For the example above, the number of characters counted in the outputs is 66, which is clearly incorrect. I need to only count these characters for the example above "thisisatestforabilateralmodifier", but there is still white space that remains after I do the sequence of replaces. If someone can help, it's be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
