Number of desktops

Is there any practical limit to the number of desktops you can create in a portal? For example, can I host 120 customers on one portal site using 120 desktops, or will I run into performance issues, etc.?
thanks,
Chad

Again.. why would they need their own desktop.. Is the content TOTALLY different for each company/group?
If not, you could use entitlements and roles to make sure they see what they need too. Also using visitor tools, each company could customize what portlets they want to see.
120 desktops seems like a lot to run on one portal.

    Hi Experts.,
    Thanks for all of you for responding my questions.
    I found my question resloved.
    Actually, in previous version, the standard program has been modified by taking access key. When the upgradation happened, it got overwrited to the previous one. So, in recent version it is not appearing.

  • What port number for Desktop Sharing using in Lync Server 2013 and Lync Online

    Dear All,
          My environment using Lync Server 2013 and Lync online on Office 365. I don't want my user using Desktop Sharing feature. then I need to know what port number for Desktop Sharing using in Lync Server 2013 and Lync Online.
    I will deny this port on personal firewall each client.
          Thank you for your advise.

    Hi,
    I'm not sure you'd be able to do this with ports without impacting other application sharing features such as Q&A, Whiteboard, Poll etc - I'm pretty sure they all come under the same umbrella of ClientAppSharing.
    Ordinarily you would create or modify your conferencing policy to restrict sharing to single programs only using a cmdlet similar to below;
    Set-CsConferencingPolicy -Identity "Global" -EnableAppDesktopSharing SingleApplication
    This would disable desktop sharing but enable users to continue sharing other single programs. If you want to remove that functionality too, then replace the 'SingleApplication' parameter with 'None'. Then users won't be able to share any programs either.
    This is the correct way to do it as the icons will be greyed out for the users. Doing it your way, they would still be able to click them, and it would throw an error - this will lead to a lot more support calls and people assuming a service is broken.
    I hope that helps some.
    Kind regards
    Ben

  • How to add number of desktop

    I have two user in my MBA. One use account with 4 desktops. But another user account only with 1 desktop. May I know how can I add more desktop?

    Enter Mission Control, move the cursor to the top, right side of the screen.  A tab will slide out of the right side with a + sign on it.  Click that to add another desktop.

  • HT3737 How do i add multiple desktops on my laptop?

    I can't figure out how to open more than one desktop of my macbook air.

    Mission Control – Work in Multiple Spaces
    If you want to keep the desktops in a specific order, go to System Preferences/Mission Control and uncheck the box " Automatically rearrange spaces based on most recent use." You can also select the box below that so if you open an application, you'll be taken to that space.
    If you want to cut down the number of desktops, there is also an option to remove the Dashboard as a desktop and have it work like it did in Snow Leopard. That can be set in System Preferences/Mission Control by deselecting Show Dashboard as a  space. You can access the Dashboard by clicking on the Dashboard icon in the dock or using the FN 12 key.

  • How to change desktop background in AppleScript in 10.7?

    I'm just now upgrading from 10.6 to 10.7, and I'm having trouble with a script that I wrote that worked fine under 10.6.  In part, it executes the following command:
         osascript -e "tell application \"Finder\" to set destop picture to POSIX file \"<path>\""
    to change the desktop background image to one of two different files based on other conditions.
    In 10.7, this command completes with no error code, but it only changes the background of one of my four desktops.  Is there a way to programmatically change the background image of all of my desktops simultaneously?  Failing that, is there a way to a) find out how many desktops I have and b) loop through them, setting each of their backgrounds in turn?
    I did search the web and found the following suggestion:
         osascript -e "tell application \"System Events\" to set picture of every desktop to \"<path>\""
    Unfortunately, that also changes only the current desktop's picture.
    The larger script is in Perl, so I'd prefer a technology that works well with that language, but if I have to change to a different scripting language, that's not the end of the world.
    Thanks much for any suggestions!
    Richard

    Actually, “repeat with k from 18 to (18 + N - 1)” was not a good idea, since it works only with N < 5, as I discovered after posting the script.
    So here's an improved version of the previous script that should work with any number of desktops:
    set theFile to POSIX file "/Library/Desktop Pictures/Isles.jpg" -- just an example
    -- Find out how many desktops you have:
    tell application "System Preferences"
        reveal anchor "shortcutsTab" of pane id "com.apple.preference.keyboard"
        tell application "System Events" to tell window "Keyboard" of process "System Preferences"
            set N to count (UI elements of rows of outline 1 of scroll area 2 of splitter group 1 of tab group 1 whose name begins with "Switch to Desktop")
        end tell
        quit
    end tell
    -- Loop through the desktops, setting each of their backgrounds in turn:
    tell application "System Events" to key code 18 using {control down} -- Desktop 1
    tell application "Finder" to set desktop picture to theFile
    repeat (N - 1) times
        delay 1
        tell application "System Events" to key code 124 using {control down} -- ⌘→
        delay 1
        tell application "Finder" to set desktop picture to theFile
    end repeat

  • How can you use AirPlay Mirroring to always show one of your open desktop screens?

    I have Mountain Lion on a 2011 Mac, and have a number of desktop screens which I use regularly.
    My question is, how do I choose only one of those open desktop screens to beam to Apple TV via mirroring? For example, so that I can show a presentation on the projector screen (via Apple TV) and read the slide notes directly from a word document on the Mac screen (which the audience cannot see) or for example, to beam a full screen DVD to my TV so that the family can watch it, whilst I continue to actually work on the Mac on a different desktop screen?
    Hope that makes sense...
    Thanks
    Jonathan

    I understand your problem but don't think it's possible:( My only solution is to play my tutorials from the networked drive to my ATV2 while following along with the exercise materials. If you've found a solution please let me know? I thought it'd be possible to assign mirroring to one desktop, like I think you said in the original post, with some type of terminal command but no luck yet. Thanks

  • Multiple Desktops Tips

    Once you have created a number of, any number of Desktops:
    1. You can move across them & back again by  Ctrl+Win <--- OR --->
    2. Hit the Task view icon; now you can move items, Universal APPs, browser windows, word docs, etc. (open windows) from one Desktop to another.  There are 2 ways... (1) Rt Clk on the item you want to Move & pick the new, different Desktop for
    it OR (2) Drag & Drop.  The Rt Clk, also, offers New which, starts (creates) that item in a new Desktop OR Drag & Drop on the New Desktop (+) icon (@ the right of the screen).
    3. You can grab any browser, in any Desktop via the IE icon on the taskbar.
    4. Alt+Tab will show all windows across all Desktops.
    Personally, I recommend this Feature of Windows 10.  Can, really facilitate being nicely organised.  Can have common themes, groups or 'families', topics or areas of commonality in their own Desktop instead of having everything mixed up together
    in one.  I have used it daily since the onset of using Windows 10 some 5 months ago.

    One more question, am I able to change the popup method of the tooltip from Ctrl-F1 to just F1 by itself?Well, maybe. I sought tooltip advice earlier, and someone named phawdon gave me some of the following code snippet; it never worked for me, but then again, CTRL+F1 never worked for me, either, so if CTRL+F1 works for you, this should work...
    public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e)
            if(e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_F1)
                    Component c = (Component)e.getSource();
                    c.dispatchEvent( new KeyEvent (c, KeyEvent.KEY_PRESSED, 0, KeyEvent.CTRL_MASK,
                                    KeyEvent.VK_F1) );}};
    }Use a KeyListener as such, so that when the user hits F1, a KeyEvent corresponding to CTRL+F1 is dispatched, hopefully causing the ToolTip to show itself. It might work, but I'm not sure...

  • Deploying a desktop application

    I've created a small Swing application which I'd like to deploy to a number of desktops. This application includes a custom JDBC driver, and I can't figure out how to include the jdbc driver in the .jar archive.
    I know it's not proper packaging to do that, but I need to do this for the time being while I trial this. Is there a way to include all the project dependencies in a .jar? I know JBuilder used to do this, but I'm at a loss with JDeveloper.

    You can't. Even if you could somehow delete the uninstaller, the user could always get around it by manually deleting all the files. If you set up some sort of protection, the user could delete the protection files or uninstall the OS altogether.

  • [Solved] jwm and desktop switching by Ctrl+Alt+N

    How to make jwm to switch desktops by pressing Ctrl+Alt+N where N is desktop number (1,2..6) ?
    Documentation says that should be used "desktop#" : "Key to switch to a specific desktop. To use this, # must be specified in the key section. Then numbers from 1 to the number of desktops configured are substituted for #." but there is no an example of key section with #.
    Can anyone give complete example of using Ctrl+Alt+N ?

  • How to add multiple desktop on mac os x?

    On my previous version of Mac OS X I was able to add as much desktops I want by just going into upper right corner with my pointer and clickin on the sign +. Now, after replacing my SSD and installing new OS I don't have that option. Does anyone knows how to add desktops on Mac OS 10.7.5? Thank you

  • Desktend - add/remove virtual desktops automatically

    Hello everyone,
    I created a small utility to dinamically create and destroy virtual desktops (also known as workspaces).
    The tool will always create one empty desktop for your. If you put a window on it, the tool will create a new one and the empty desktops will be removed.
    The minimum and maximum number of desktops are hardcoded but you can easly change them by editing the source file.
    I created it for my openbox desktop but it should work with any EWMH window manager.
    Any feedback is welcome. Have fun.

    You don't need that script in openbox. Openbox is capable of that natively. This is my config:
    <keybind key="W-d">
    <action name="AddDesktopLast"/>
    </keybind>
    <keybind key="W-r">
    <action name="RemoveDesktopLast"/>
    </keybind>

    If I open up the AirPort App - it only says that it cannot find my AirPort wireless device (probably because I dont have one) and then if I go to networks to connect to my wifi I select my home network and it ask me to input a password (as it should) but when I try to put in my password for my network it says "connection timeout" and the screen behind it (where the options for wifi or ethernet ext are) it says no ip address under wifi (also the status indicator is showing yellow - since my wifi is on just not connected to a network. I cannot seem to find any place to input my information for my specific router. Although I can connect to neighboring wifi routers just fine.

  • Resource pool as desktop pool

    Hi all,
    We have an external program that does the provisioning of the desktops. All desktops are placed in a resource pool (in VMware).
    The number of desktops in this pool can vary.
    I would like to create a desktop pool in Sun VDI that uses the resource pool as source for the desktops. I can only select the desktops one by one, not the resource pool.
    Any idea how this can be done?
    Regards,
    Wouter

    Hi Wouter,
    you can't "import by resource pool" with the current VDI versions.
    However, if you can arrange for all the relevant vms to be in the same VC folder, you can select that folder in the VDI import wizard and import all contained vms in a single step.
    Geoff.

  • KDE: Taskbar is not (left) clickable with multiple Desktops

    I don't know exactly the time, when this problem appeared. I guess since any KDE update.
    Well, if I increase the number of desktops to more than one, the left click stops working on the task bar. I can't click on minimized windows or symbols in the tray. Right click works though. If I reduce the number of desktops, left click on the task bar works again.
    Has anyone the same problem? Or a fix? Thank you.
