Number of dialog processes at any host

Hi Friends,
I need to find how many dialog processes are in use at any time at any host. My desire is the programatically of sm51.
How do I do?
Thanks.

Hi!
It's better, if you check the transaction SM50. You can see all dialog (DIA) proceses here.

  • Number of dialog process in SM50 does not tally RZ10

    Hi,
I am encountering the above scenario whereby the number of dialog processes shown in SM50 is not the same as the profile parameters indicated in RZ10.
I have restated SAP several times and it's still the same - both doesn't tally.
Has anyone encountered the same?  How was it resolved?
    Thanks

    Problem resolved.
Reimported the profile and restarted SAP.

    Hi,
Are you aware that a lot of documentation is available and that it is possible to read it and even recommended because you would find very easily the answer to your very very basic question in it ?
Hint : Look for transaction RZ10 in the documentation and which parameters control the number of processes.
PS : There are also the forum rules that are also very interesting to read !

  • Limit on ALEREMOTE Dialog process in BI for Extraction

    Hi
We are on BI 7 and ECC 6 and doing the extraction .It creates 10 Dialog process with user ALEREMOTE .Bi system is small and it has only 13 Dialog process. So system becomes very slow with 1 extraction job .
In RZ12 , the parallel_generators settings of "Minimum Number of Free WPs" = 5 but still ALEREMOTE takes 10 process.
Please tell me where do we limit the number of parallel process for extraction in the BI system.

  • Dialog process setting

    Hello,
I am wondering if/where there is a setting on the number of dialog processes that a load can allow.  As an example we want it to only do 3 packages at a time of a load and once they complete do 3 more.  Please gurus

    Hi MG,
Is this data load to an ODS. If yes, then there is a setting in the ODS itself.
Right Click on the ODS and Select manage. On the top Menu, you will find the button "GO TO".
Under the GO TO menu, select "ODS Object Customizing".
Here, you have the option to change the no. of parallel processes your load could use.
    Hope the answer was helpful.

  • Dialog process (loading)

    Hello,
We have upgraded the system to BW2004s. Now when loading fom cube to cube. We get 2 dialog processes. Before we got only 1 dialog process.
Does anybody know how to select only 1 dialog proces during loading?

    <b>Rules -</b>
You cannot change the number of dialog processes directly. The number of dialog processes is calculated automatically from the total number of work processes minus all the other work processes.
There must always be at least 2 dialog processes. The number of other work process types can only be increased if there are more than two dialog processes.

  • SAP Dialog Process Number

    Dears:
I just finish installation of my ECC 6.0 server. Now i want to change the number of the SAP dialog process. And do you know if there is any calculate formula to use so that i can know how many dialog process i should set for the server?

    Hello,
That depends on the no of users that are going to logon.
For windows based operating system, it depends on the no of processors you have in the server.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/02/962817538111d1891b0000e8322f96/frameset.htm
While increasing the no of work process, you need to note that per work process, you have to assign 50 MB to 60 MB of memory, depending on the SAP release and operating system.

  • Maximum number of dialog work process

    Hello gurus,
Could you please let me know what is the maximum number of dialog work process that you can configure in an Netweaver system with ABAP 7.0 before considering to install a new application server to distribute the load?
    Thaks for your help,
    Best regards

    > Just one question, according to the following statement, can I think that I should estimate a usage of 1/4 CPU core by every dialog WP?
No, this was just an example to make clear what I mean.
    > Do you know any SAP note that could help me to estimate the number of WP according to the load of the system?
There is no such note and there can't be.
You could have a system with e. g. 100 users where 10 of them do really produce load, the other 90 may just run a few transactions or do just nothing - so 50 WPs is too much. You could also have a system with 20 users where ALL are entering data all data and doing reporting and stuff so 20 WPs is too less. There may also be processes like ATP that use one background worprocess and spawn a number of dialog WPs you configure in the application. If you configure too few of them, the ATP run will run very log, if you configure too much, the system will be overloaded and slowing down. I can imagine dozens of other examples what may cause load or not.
Because of that it's not possible to give a formular how many WPs to be configured for how many users.
This is a tuning thing and needs to be estimated in the first weeks after a GoLive; watch the system, reconfigure, watch. Check ST03N and SM50/SM66 or book an early watch after some time, they have rough estimates and give usually good advises. Out of theory it's almost impossible to predict something.

is there any way to run abap program in dialog process in every 30 min.?
or call BSP page or call function.
any solution will be helpful that excuting PROGRAM or FUNCTION or BSP PAGE in schedule job and should running dialog process.
    thanks.

  • WD4A & Dialog Processes

We are undergoing and investigation to determine whether WD4A or WD4J would be the best strategic choice tool for our company.
Recently we were told by and SAP consultant that WB4A "Holds on to" R/3 Dialog Processes while operating.
This seems an outrageous claim and so I was hoping someone out there with WD4A experience could confirm/deny this and give information on how the connection to the R/3 system works and if this is significantly different from the methods adopted by WD4J.
Thanks (and of course points) for any help you can offer.
    Regards,
    Steve.

    Hi Steve,
WDA does not use R/3 dialog processing internally. It's a completely different runtime, which was build almost from scratch.
The design was made with the experience in mind that we got from doing BSP and old style Dynpro.
Since the core design of Web Dynpro enforces independentness from the platform, using R/3 dialog processing internally would have been a wrong choice. It had to be implemented in Java then as well... )
I believe, the consultant confused it with transaction se58, which is a generator to convert the layout of a number of dynpros within a modul pool to a Web Dynpro component. Only the layout is converted though, not the program flow. Since the usage of this transaction turned out to be questionable, it was removed (ITS does the job alot better & why using the old layout with limited number of controls at all?). Now, there's an import mechanism to import the layout of a dynpro within the view designer of a web dynpro component. Perhaps, the consultant made the wrong conclusions out of these things.
    Best regards,
    Thomas

  • How to execute report in Background from Dialog process?

How, or what is the best way, to lauch an executable program (report) into the background from a dialog program (dynpro)?
<b>Example:</b>  The SUBMIT...AND RETURN still executes the called program before it returns control to the calling program.  I just want the report to be kicked off and the dialog to continue as normal.  I do not want the report execution time to affect the dialog process.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Hi Nablan, I'm also trying to do parallel processing and created a function module that kicks of another report program.
However, the process doesn't seem to work. The Main program runs from start to finish but the called program in the function module doesn't seem to run. When I used the option STARTING NEW TASK task name the code ran but in the foreground. I don't want to use this option as it runs in the foreground and SAP limits one to six sessions. Is there something I'm missing in the attributes of the function module I created. Currently the attributes are: Processing type Remote enable module and it's set to start immediately. I had used Normal function module initially but this did not work with the STARTING NEW TASK task name option.
Below are the codes segements I used.
In my main program I have the following code segement
    CALL FUNCTION 'Z_CA_PROG_CALL'
      IN BACKGROUND TASK
      EXPORTING
        zprogram            = 'ZCA_TEST1'
      EXCEPTIONS
        program_call_failed = 1
        invalid             = 2
        OTHERS              = 3.
    IF sy-subrc <> 0.
    MESSAGE ID SY-MSGID TYPE SY-MSGTY NUMBER SY-MSGNO
            WITH SY-MSGV1 SY-MSGV2 SY-MSGV3 SY-MSGV4.
    ENDIF.
    COMMIT WORK.
In the function module I have the following code.
    FUNCTION z_ca_prog_call.
    ""Local interface:
    *"  IMPORTING
    *"     VALUE(ZPROGRAM) LIKE  ZCA_INTERFPROG-ZPROGRAM
    *"  EXCEPTIONS
    *"      PROGRAM_CALL_FAILED
    *"      INVALID
      SUBMIT (zprogram).
      IF sy-subrc <> 0.
        CASE sy-subrc.
          WHEN 1.
            RAISE program_call_failed.
          WHEN OTHERS.
            RAISE invalid.
        ENDCASE.
      ENDIF.
    ENDFUNCTION.

  • Function in update task goes to dialog process(seen by sm50)

    Hi Forum,
I wrote a simple test to invoke a function module in update task, and the execution of the module takes several minutes (updating database using opensql) . The test looks simply like described in the following link:
    http://www.****************/Tutorials/ABAP/Debug/Index.htm
During the run, I used transaction sm50 to view the working processes and expect to find a running "UPD" process. However it is not found, instead  my dialog process is always seen running. Any hints on why?
    Thanks,
    Yang

got the answer. The reason is that sm50 can not display UPD process so promptly. For a more thorough tracing, transaction "stad" can be used. (where I see the DB access executed in UPD process)
