Number of drive bays for HP ENVY Notebook - 17t-k200 CTO

I am receiving conflicting reports on the new HP Envy model.  Does it have one or two drive bays?
This question was solved.
View Solution.

It has a single 2.5 inch bay and then an M.2 mSATA port.
Manual
Pages 63 and 70.
It is also one of the ones where access to the hard drive(s) or memory is major surgery.

  • Cable for 2nd Hard Drive bay for HP ENVY 17

Hello everyone! I wanted to ask a question. I own an HP ENVY 17-J075EZ, and inside it there are two slots for hard disk including the primary already used from the hard disk ... Because I wanted to put a SSD but always keep the HDD, I wanted to know what it's called the second cable to connect a second hard drive and possibly the price and where to buy it! Thanks in advance!

I wish to install a SSD in drive bay 1 (port 0) and the HD in drive bay 2 (port 1).

  • Better to use optical bay or drive bay for SSD?

Just bought a mid-2012 MacPro.  Also purchased a Crucial 512GB SSD drive, which I intend to use for a boot drive.  I know that I can install the drive in one of the four slide out drive bays.  From what I can gather, it doesn't matter which bay I use, Mac will boot equally well from any of them.  My question is:  What about the second optical bay?  Is there any advantage to putting the SSD there?  (other than keeping another slot open for HDD?)  Have tried to research this a bit, but the model is brand-new, not a lot of info out there..  Mucho thanks!

The model is not "new" it is just a tiny change in processor options, everything else is unchanged.
To use in standard bays you need to use an adapter to fit. If you put it in the optical bay if you are like me, it will get moved, put on its side, so again, might want to 'tie it down."
But it doesn't matter which location.
With 512GB you probably are going to use it for much more than just the boot drive. Maybe Aperture or other libraries.

I suggest to consider a SSD:

I have been using SSD for about three years and can't imagine that I'm go back to a common hard drive. Solid drives are cheaper every day and also bigger so it's worth to have one today. In case you are interested, Corsair, Intel, Samsung, Kingston, OCZ and some others are good makers. Your laptop is most likely SATA II so get one and see for yourself..

  • Native SATA hard drive support for hp pavilion notebooks DV2000 , DV9000

    Hello,
decided to post a question on this hp forum instead of the hundreds of other tech forums out there in the hopes of recieving a valid knowledgeble response.  (Also since the question relates to Hp products lets give it  a try on here>>)
So here is the question I'm trying to get answer for.  Can a SATA hard drive from DV 2000 series notebook be used in a DV 9000 notebook series?  I have done some forum reading and apparently there is compatibility issues depending on chipset (Intel or Amd or ATI?)
My Dv2000 series had a fujitsu 250gb hard drive which ran Vista 64bit on an AMD/nvdia motherboard,
I want to use this in my DV 9233cl notebook which has an Intel/nvidia chipset motherboard.
When I insert the fujitsu 250gb into the dv9233cl the notebook powers on, does a read of hard drive for 10 mins or so (hdd LED lights up, goes dim while reading) then says : No OS found.
    I tried to do a fresh install using Vista CD; its doesn't recognize the drive.  I click option to load drivers for hard drive (yes I also got intel drivers for Intel SATA controllers from hp web site) the drivers load but still do not pick up the hard drive;
I want to know two things really..if at post the motherboard reads the drive or trys to does this means the hard drive itself is good/healthy?  If so , why does it not recognize by Vista Install disk or by the intel SATA drivers?
If anyone can accurately say what the problem is would be great.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
Thank you for responding and opening up the discussion with more information.
I refered to it as new in my post in reference to obtaining it recently after my older dv2913cl.
The dv9233cl is in fact old, however I installed a brand new intel/nvidia motherboard into it.
The system boots, bios has native sata support set to 'enabled'.  During post it recognises hdd device as it starts to click and spin and read.  After it will say ' no OS found'.   This to me seems normal as the hdd is not 'configured' to boot on the dv9233cl?
Also the systm boots and runs fine into mini Xp for diagnostics. So overall I know the dv9233cl is functioning.
However mini Xp does not recognise there is a hdd device.
Wanting to reformat or do a fresh install of Vista I boot from the Vista Install disk.   It does not pick up or recognise a hdd is present.  I install Intel SATA controller drivers which I obtained from Hp website (as suggested by expert forum members to those who have similar SATA  hdd not being recognised with intel motherboard)
Link for intel SATA drivers for XP and Vista
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=ob-542...
I used the SATA controllers which came up on the screen and even try going through each one ; however the SATA hdd device is not picked up.  So this is the main question and issue. Neither any DOS hdd utility , mini XP or Vista install disk recognise there is a hdd present.
Why is it not recognised and how to resolve.?

  • Whats the average temperature of my drive bay for my G5? Its at 1832F

Whats the average temperature of my drive bay on my G5?
The drive bay is running at 1832 degrees F.
I just installed two new hitachi 2Tb drives in both the drive bay A and B.
They are independently at 94 degrees F and 104 degrees F.
The computer sounds lauder then before I installed the new drives.
However my fans are running at a normal 1800rpms.
I dont remember if my average drive bay was around 1800degrees F
If it is high is it because the drives are faulty?
I carbon copied my original 1TB drive with my OS on it to my new 2TB drive... was a faulty copy? (resulting in OS X running my fans slow)
    All help needed.

  • Solid State Hard Drive Replacement For HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j053cl?

    Hello there,
I want to swap out my current 1TB harddrive from my year-and-a-half old HP ENVY with a 500 GB solid state harddrive that I just purchased from Amazon.
    Two questions:
    1) Is this solid state harddrive compatiable with my computer (specs below)?
    2) I want to reinstall windows onto the solid state harddrive after I install it (assuming its compatable).  How can I go about putting Windows 8 on a bootable usb drive to do this?  The computer does not have an optical drive and I don't have an external optical drive, so installing Windows via bootable usb is my only option.
I'm aware I can "clone" my PC onto the external harddrive if I wish, but I'd rather do a clean install if I can.
    Computer Specs:
    HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j053cl
    Product: E0K05UA#ABA
    Solid State Hard Drive Specs:
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM)

Please let me know any advice you may have.  Also, please feel free to ask any questions - hopefully I provided enough details.

Windows 8.1 has a built-in tool to make a recovery usb drive:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-usb-recovery-drive
The HP Backup and Recovery app can also do it. This is a factory clean install image and any data and programs you have added will be lost. If you have an external hard drive you can also do a backup with Windows File History. Then, add the backed up files to the factory install. You can also use File History to make a system image type backup and restore it to the new drive using a repair disk but this is virtually the same as a clone, which you said you do not want.
    Manual
Your service manual linked above. See page 47.
The Evo 850 is the best SSD on the market in my humble opinion and will work just fine for you.

  • Solid State Drive (SSD) for dm4 1160us notebook,,, an SATA II or SATAIII ?

I would like to go to a SSD and was wondering if this notebook supports SATA III or 6GB/s transfer rate. The HDD that is in there is a Seagate ST9500420AS ATA and research shows it has a 3gb/s transfer rate. I don't know if I should purchase a SSD that is 3GB/s or 6GB/s. Don't know if the motherboard supports it (SATAIII / 6GB/s)?
Thoughts? Has anyone upgraded to s SSD. Also, how/what did you use to transfer the old drive or did you just reinstall Windows 7?
    Thanks,
    Harry

    Hi,
What you are seeing is the generation 2 SATA HD attached to port 0 and the generation 1 SATA optical drive attached to port 1.
The HM55 chipset is rated for SATA II.
If you are going to buy a SSD, then look at the prices differences between SATA II and SATA III for the size that fit your pocketbook.  I did some benchmarking of SATA III devices on SATA II ports and only noticed about a 6-10% improvement compared to SATA II or SATA II. Your mileage may vary.

  • Which drive bay for an SSD as system drive?

Hey people. I just bought a 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 with 8 cores at 2.93 GHz. I also bought a 120GB SSD from OWC to use as the system drive. My question is: does it matter which bay I use for the SSD? I'd like to install the SSD in bay 1, because bay 1 seems more appropriate for a system drive, but I don't really know if this matters. Is bay 1 faster or have some kind of priority access to the CPUs? This machine came with a 2TB HDD in each of bays 1 and2. They are configured as a Mirrored RAID Set, but I think I will set them up as 4 TB regular storage. Thanks much for any helpful replies.

Or do I have less efficient air flow?
    Less efficient.
It is obscure, and does not make a LOT of difference, but now some heated air can leak back through that vacant 1/2 inch space and enter the front of the main intake fan in place of a little bit of cooler outside air. With a full 1 inch drive there, the potential leak is plugged by the standard-height 3.5 inch drive.

  • External Hard Drive bay for iMac?

I have a 2TB sata hard drive I used to use with my PC, but I know want to use with my iMac. Is there something I can get to plug the hard drive into and then to the iMac to access it??
    TIA

The drive needs a new enclosure, as you know iMac's don't have ESata. Install the drive in a Firewire 800 drive, if you are going to use it exclusively with Macs then reformat it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). You can find this in Disk Utility.

  • Using additional bays for a RAID drive, and an eSATA RAID question too

I'm thinking about getting a Mac Pro soon, and my hope is that I can use the main drive bay for the OS and apps, and then use two of the remaining 4 bays to install two drives that I can set up as a striped RAID array. It appears that this can be done without having to buy the $1000 RAID card, but before I dove in I wanted to check. I'm not worried about losing data, because I'm good about external backups, but rather need to handle many thousands of large photo files quite quickly.
Also, I've got an eSATA RAID set up on my G5 now, and I understand that there are two more SATA ports on the main board of the Mac Pro, and potentially I understand I could plug that in there. But I dread getting the message "you've inserted a drive that isn't recognized, etc.." Anyone know what problems I might encounter here? OWC offers a patch cord that plugs in to them and then goes in to one of the expansion card slots as a kind of extension cord.
    Thanks.

Right now on my G5 I have an external SATA two-drive RAID 0 enclosure (basically, just two 500gb drives in an OWC Mercury Elite Pro enclosure) that hooks up to the G5 by 2 SATA cables that plug in to a PCI card slot. My plan was, when I get the Mac Pro, to use the Newer Technology eSATA extender cables from OWC to hook up this drive box to to new machine. (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MPQXES2/) From what I've read in these fora it appears this is possible, and it seems also to be possible to just use the RAID tool in Disk Utility to set up the internal drives on in slots 1-4 on the Mac Pro.
Primarily I'm needing improved speed for handling lots of large photo files in CS3 and Lightroom. Just from using the RAID setup I have now I've noticed some speed improvements, and with the extra processing power of the Mac Pro I'm hoping to see even more once I make the leap.
Thanks to all of you, by the way, for your input.

  • Replacement screws for HP Envy j100

Hello. I seem to be missing two screws on the bottom panel of my HP Envy j100 notebook (purchased last year, October 2013). The screws that are missing are in the top left and top right corners (when looking at the keyboard from above). They are the screws that are next to each of the hinges and consequently, the plastic bottom of the laptop is loose. This is also causing the hinges to be loose and flimsy. They were not like this when I originally purchased the laptop. I would like to know where and how I can order some replacement screws for my Envy notebook.
    Thank you!
