Number of Oracle Forms customers

Hello everyone, I am helping an SI migrate Oracle forms apps to ADF and Java apps. We wanted to know the number of Oracle forms customers, preferrably by version #, to understand the size of the opportunity.
I would appreciate help.
Thanks,
Raj

That is Oracles' secret. They wouldn't give that away, now would they? If you look at the forum facts (3.2 million views), you can be sure that there are quite a lot of Forms customers.

  • How can i validate input number into a Field of  type char in oracle form?

    hi.....
    can any one help me.....please...!!!?!!
    How can i validate input number into a Field of type char in oracle form?

    i have tried doing that, but still the field except numbersthere was an error in that code. it should have been
    var_num:=to_number(var_char);however, it appears that you want the entry NOT to be a number. if this is the case then try
    begin
      if to_number(:block.item) = 0 then null; end if;
      message('The entry cannot be numeric');
      raise form_trigger_failure
    exception
      when value_error then

          entry is non-numeric */
    end;

  • Oracle Forms Builder - Errors

    Hi to all!
    I'm beginner in Oracle Forms and Reports. The OS is Windows and the software is Oracle Forms and Reports Developer 10g with Database Server 10g. I have started with customers.fmb and orders.fmb. When I try start customers.fmb, I get the error FRM-40911:Record not created due to sequence number generation error. In orders.fmb I get the error FRM-10102: Cannot attach library webutil_lib.
    How to solve these errors?
    Thx in advance.

    When I try start customers.fmb, I get the error FRM-40911:Record not created due to sequence number generation error. Double-check the sequence used by the CUSTOMERS table and make sure the sequence exists. If it exists, check the permissions to see if your user has SELECT privilege granted.
    In orders.fmb I get the error FRM-10102: Cannot attach library webutil_lib.Sounds like your environment is not configured correctly. The WebUtil.pll (PL/SQL Library) is included with Oracle Forms and is located in the <DEV_SUITE HOME>/forms directory. This directory location needs to be added to your FORMS_PATH so the Forms Builder can find the library. The Forms Builder FORMS_PATH variable is located in the Windows Registry. Edit your Windows Registry and navigate to the following Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE => SOFTWARE => Oracle => KEY_DevSuiteHome1 (your key may be named slightly different). Now, in the right side, scroll until you find the FORMS_PATH string object and double-click to open the editor. Add the directory where the webutil.pll is located to the existing value in this string variable. When you are done, it should look something like the following:
    D:\DevSuiteHome_1\cgenf61\admin;D:\DevSuiteHome_1\formsYou might also want to take a look at the article: Forms: How to Configure Forms Builder to run forms locally. • Oracle Forms 60604 Errors

    Hi,
    Hope someone can help with this.
    I have a set of forms that I am trying to modify.
    If I load the form, then save and try to compile I get Oracle 60604 errors.
    If I load the form, and right away compile the form I can compile OK but as soon as I save the form, Oracle Forms crashes.
    The form file is read/write and is on my local hard drive.
    I have logged into the proper database to do the compile against.
    Any ideas as to what could be generating the 60604 errors??
    Thanks!

  • Oracle Forms 10g on the Internet.

    Hello
    I currently have an Oracle Forms Application, called JTT running on my company LAN, it comprises
    Oracle Database 10.2.0.4.0 on Windows Server 2008,
    OAS 10.1.2.0.3 on Windows Server 2003
    Oracle Forms and Reports 10g
    We would like to create a new architecture matching our own, on an externally hosted server through which our customers can access a production version of the Application JTT_Live. The application is complex and cannot be rebuilt in ADF or Apex.
    I have the following questions, running this application on the internet is it
    a) Secure? What additional security measures would I need to examine, or does the OAS handle all that. Should it be https
    b) Will the forms,reports be rendered quickly enough and navigation be adequate if bandwidth is optimized?
    I know Oracle Forms and reports are primarily designed for LAN but our customer needs an external hosting solution, we cannot rebuild JTT as it has 10years of development behind it. Any links to documentation for OAS and Database setup and configuration for Internet access would be very helpful.
    Or should I just forget about this as a possible offering to my new customers?
    Thanks

    As with any application deployed to the internet, security is one of your top most concerns. How you deploy the application depends on how your application is going to be used and how many concurrent users you expect to have. If you will have a high rate of concurrent users, VPN may not be the best option because your VPN server will become a potential bottle-neck. If your VPN server can handle the number of potential users then you might be OK. If you don't use VPN, then you definately will want to use HTTPS. Additionally, you will want to always run the most current version of the 10g software stack to ensure you have the latest security patches, etc. This will be a problem with 10g because support for this release ends in December 2011. Consequently, you would want to upgrade our application to Oracle Fusion Middleware (FMw) 11g R2 to ensure your application is supported and has all the latest security patches. If upgrading to 11g is not an option yet, then you may want to stick to a VPN solution and beef up your VPN server to handle the increase in users.
    By the way, I've worked on a Forms Application that was deployed to the open internet in the past. We used SSL and HTTPs to ensure the security of the connection and we implemented complex password rules to make it harder to Brute-Force hack a user's password. Unfortunately, Forms 10g does not support case-sensative passwords so if you want or need to support case-sensative passwords you will have to upgrade to FMw 11g with an 11g RDBMS. As to performance, we didn't have a huge user base (less than 1000 field users) so performance was good. If you will have a large user base, you will need to ensure your Technology Stack (DB, App, Infrastructure servers) can handle the work load.

  • Calling web service from oracle forms 10g

    Problem Description:
    I'm following the steps as per the doc:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gr2/howto/webservicefromforms/ws_10_1_3_from_forms.html
    to create a java stub to call external web service and then use java importer in oracle forms to call this web service from oracle forms.
    WSDL for external web service used is http://gend:83/DesignService.svc?wsdl
    The service was developed by us.
    Calling the web service using JDeveloper works fine but when I complie in Oracle Forms it returns wrong number of types of arguments in call SENDHELLO.
    The code from oracle form to call web service is as below:
    DECLARE
    jo ora_java.jobject;
    xo ora_java.jobject;
    rv varchar2(2000);
    ex ora_java.jobject;
    str varchar2(100);
    BEGIN
    jo := GendServiceClient.new;
    rv := GendServiceClient.sendHello('Nora');
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN ORA_JAVA.JAVA_ERROR then
    message('Unable to call out to Java, ' ||ORA_JAVA.LAST_ERROR);
    WHEN ORA_JAVA.EXCEPTION_THROWN then
    ex := ORA_JAVA.LAST_EXCEPTION;
    message(Exception_.toString(ex));
    END;
    Any help/ideas on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    My primary skill is PL/SQL but the only information I found on Oracle's site to call a web service from a 10g Form was creating a jar file and importing the java class. Since I don't want to ask our corporate IT to make changes on the UNIX box for the jar files I went a different route.
    I use UTL_HTTP.BEGIN_REQUEST to call a URL then load I load the data to a table as a CLOB since we have more than 4000 characters. Now I need to parse the XML and load it into a form. I have never done this so if there is a helpful site please let me know. I have looked at several sites but none do what I want.
    Thanks

  • Unable to do UPDATE in Oracle Form 10.1.2

    Hi,
    I am using an LOV to query data from a master-type table.
    -- WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED in button Retrieve
    declare
      l_number number;
      a_value_chosen boolean;
    begin
      a_value_chosen := Show_LOV('LOV_CUSTOMER');
      if not a_value_chosen then
        message('No value selected');
        raise form_trigger_failure;
      end if;
    end;First, I choose a value from the LOV. The LOV showed the selected items in the Form.
    Next, I modified some values (not the Primary Key) in the Form text items.
    Finally, I tried to Save the modification into table, using
    -- WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED in button Save
      commit_form;
      clear_form;Surprisely, it showed
    FRM-40508: ORACLE error, unable to INSERT record.
    BTW,
    Previuosly, I can do UPDATE if I use the Enter Query and Execute Query button.
    I did not attempt to do inserting, just updating.
    Could someone show where is the problem?
    Is the form status not changed by the query returned from LOV?
    Any help would be grateful.
    Many thanks,
    Imelda

    Hi,
    Glad I found all of you in this forum.
    Thanks for all of the explanations.
    I thought by using LOV would suppress the network traffic.
    If the use of LOV would give lots of drawbacks, then I should see the Enter_Query() Execute_Query() instead.
    BTW,
    I found the button Enter Query and Execute Query on the toolbar.
    (Seems that Oracle Form provides lots of help to simplify the programming)
    I have some sort of problems in using them :
    1. Well, they do the query and retrieve the records for a match query criteria.
    But it did not give any specific message if the record does not exist.
    The message bar (for unknown reason) is showing
    "Enter a query; press CTRL+F11 to execute, F4 to cancel."
    Can we change this behaviour?
    Perhaps, showing "No record(s) are retrieved for this query. Either change the query criteria; press CTRL+F11 to execute, F4 to cancel."
    2. I found the Count Hits from Query menu.
    Based on the documentation, the message line will show the records number returned based on query
    criteria, without actually retruning the records to the user.
    I am not sure whether this function has been removed for the Oracle Developer 10g (10.1.2), since
    there is nothing happen, and the message line keep showing
    "Enter a query; press CTRL+F11 to execute, F4 to cancel."
    Do we tho do some modification to the Forms to use Count Hits?
    3. I read on the documentation about Query Where dialog box.
    Query Where will be showed if user enter a colon ':' in a field in Enter Query mode for query criteria.
    Again, I am not sure whether this function has been removed too.
    the message line showed :
    FRM-40367: Invalid criteria in field <field_name> in example record.
    It happens if the criteria contains # or : or &
    Or is it done via another way?
    Any help would be grateful.
    Many thanks,
    Imelda.

  • Oracle form 6.0, how to do 3D chart, calender,mouser over changing....

    oracle form 6.0, how to do 3D chart, calender,mouser over changing....in we form, like microsoft style.
    Or it's better use 9i or 10g jdeveloper? or other tchnology?

    The cpu resources are only limited once the cpu's are 100% utilized. It is highly unlikely that dom0 will try to use 100% of a cpu, let alone all cpus. Only when there are no idle physical cpus would you run into issues.
    You may want to try reducing the number of vcpus in the windows guest. I have seen reports from users claiming that having more vcpus in a windows guest causes it to run slower.

  • Oracle Forms 6 to Latest version

    Hi all, now am I in deep water. I'm totally newbie on Oracle Forms.
    We still have Oracle forms 6, and we use it for a old Tuxedo service repository.
    I guess that we are not the first to upgrade to something newer, so I hope there is someone out here who can
    help me with links or some other info where to start looking.
    Anyone?
    Thanks in advance

    Yes, the number of people still using forms 6 have become smaller now. There was a major release of 10g after that, and last summer, FMW 11g came out which offers the latest version for forms too.
    Please see this link for [forms upgrade guide from 6i to 11g|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/doc.1111/e10394/toc.htm]. Do not expect that you will be able to do anything by reading just one or two documents. So first spend some good amount of time in reading documentations before jumping into implementation.

  • Using Java Access bridge (Accessibility) with oracle forms 6.0 client

    I'm trying to use JAB (java Access bridge ) to capture events in oracle forms 6.0 client .
    I've a Jinitiator 1.1.8 and JRE version 1.4x
    I've configured JAB as per the installation guide . However the events don't surface in Java Monkey .
    Has anybody encountered similar issue ? what is the solution for the issue ??
    Also on one of the forums I read Jinitiator 1.3x and above is automatically recognised by Java Access bridge .
    For jinitiator version less than 1.3 manual configuration is required . however I haven;'t been able to find any on the oracle forms KB
    Also here is the excerpt from the link http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/accessibility/faqs/index.html
    Q: Are there special steps for using Java-based applications with assistive technology?
    A: If the Oracle application is written in Java, such as JDeveloper or Oracle Forms (runtime), customers must first install the latest version of Sun's Java Access Bridge. The Java Access Bridge provides the integration with screen readers such as JAWS or SuperNova that support Java. You just download the Access Bridge and install it. Sun's AccessBridge 2.0x recognizes Oracle's JInitiator 1.3x and above so no manual configuration steps are necessary. The Access Bridge is available from: http://java.sun.com/products/accessbridge. At the time this document was written, Access Bridge 2.0.1 is the most current publicly available production release; Oracle recommends upgrading to this version. Sun's AccessBridge is bundled with Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) and can be found in the Java Runtime Engine (JRE). More information for configuring such products is in the respective product documentation, or on http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/accessibility/products/index.html.

    ODP.NET requires Oracle Client 9.2 or higher.
    You can find additional information about ODP.NET from the FAQ:

  • How to make a billing forms in oracle forms 6.0?

    hi,i want to make a sample billing form in oracle forms.my fields details
    itemcode varchar2(6);
    itemname varchar2(25);
    quantity number(5); prompt quantity in kg
    selling_price number(5);
    subtotal number(5);
    total number(6);
    i have no idea about billing application.if i want to make "subtotal" and "total" as database item?,i only want to show the total price on "total" and "subtotal" fields.i will make "total" field as single record item.and set all others are 10 records displayed.please help me further.i want sellingprice*quantity=subtotal.at last i want to get subtotal+subtotal+n(sum of all subtotal)=total.total is a single display field at bottom.if we entered all items i want to show the total at bottom.i know my concept is so stupid.please help me to make a proper forms.real thanks for reading my question.

    I think you've got worse problems than building the form.
    First you need a proper data model. Billing will involve more than one table, with master - detail relations and that kind of very nice things that a database can achieve.
    Then, once you have designed a datamodel that fits your requirements, you will have to build the form with the builder. It is not a hard tool, but needs a minimum learning.
    Don't take me wrong, but I don't think you can come here and ask such a generic issue.
