NUMBER PAD ISSUE

HI,
MY LAPTOP'S RIGHT SIDE NUMBER PAD NOT WORKING.
TECH SAID OS CORRUPTED AND SUGGESTED RUN RECOVERY , SO RECOVERY DONE.
STILL SAME ISSUE , NOW TECH SAID HE WILL ORDER NEW KEYBOARD FOR ME.
SO I WANT TO KNOW WAT CAUSES THIS KINF OF PROBLEM??

I understand that you are having trouble with the keys on your keyboard's number pad. I am happy to help you, but first, Please post the full product number for your notebook. See the following, if you need help with that information.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Did this issue with the numeric keypad, just start recently?
Did you download or install, new drivers, or do any system updates recently that seem to coincide with when it first occurred? If so, then a possible quick fix is a System Restore to a point before it first occurred.Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7)

  • 10.8.4 and extended keyboard number pad issues

    To anyone that has heard of this before. I've checked about every discussion here and I don't know that this issue has been resolved. I recently upgraded to 10.4.8 as most here have done. The odd and annoying thing thats happened now is that my apple wireless keyboard's number pad no longer works; The number 5 key seams to have become related to a left click on the mouse wherever the curser is on the screen, but no other keys work. This problem has also crippled any web browser I use such as Safari or Firefox; meaning that if I attempt to use the number pad in a login field, the mouse can no longer select or move open windows.
    My one remedy to all of this has been to open the Force Quit Applications menu and all is well with the mouse again. One last point I can make is that by creating a new user account, all my keyboard and mouse problems go away, and everything acts as it should. I just don't want to have to back up everything and reinstall the system. So my mac faithful friends, please help.

    I found the answer!!!!!
    I was looking in universal access under the mouse settings and noticed something called mouse keys. Some how I turned that option on and it turned the number pad into a way of moving the curser multiple directions with the ability to select items by pressing the #5 key. I hope this may help others, I've been stuck with this one for a few days.

  • I just updated to ios6 and now I have a hard time reading the number pad. Can I get the colors to go back to the way they were before? Or can I get rid of ios6?

    I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit.

  • Extending F-Keys - is there a F-Key number pad?

    I have the wireless apple keyboard which only has twelve f-keys. Does anyone know of a device like a number pad that would add some additional F-keys which I could assign actions to?
    Please don't suggest the following - I am aware of these options and they don't resolve a very specific issue/workflow I am trying to enable.
    1) just use the fully apple keyboard that have extended F keys
    2) use modifier keys for your F keys for addition functions
    I have tons of quick keys that I use across the OS, and across apps, and I am trying to find single key presses (without modifiers) that I can press to increase functionality and apple's multipurpose Fkey option makes my goals difficult?
    Any suggestions? I love the wireless keyboard, but I just want to be able to add additional keys.

    Check out the Belkin Nostromo N52... It's designed as a gaming input device, but it should suit your needs nicely. It has 14 keys (all programmable, even macros) as well as a scroll wheel, 8-way D-pad, and several other buttons.
    I'm 99% sure they have OSX drivers for it...
    Saitek makes something similar as well, but I don't know about OSX compatibility...

  • HP DV9291ea Number pad not working after been in for repair

    I have a HP DV 9291ea laptop. It is a 17 inch model with a numeric keypad on it. The problem is, when the numlock key is turned on the keyboard number pad get's enables. I recently had the mother board changed by HP/Tarsus. I suspect that they didnt load the correct keyboard profile. They (Tarsus) said that should bring the laptop in and they will fix it (for free). I will do that if no one can help me here, Is there an easy and permanent fix for this problem?
    I can temnporarly get around it by doing the following:
    making sure the numlock is off.
    opening the on screen keyboard (start>programs>accessories>ease of access>on screen keyboard)
    a keyboard layout will opens on the screen
    I hold down the FN button down on the real keyboard and clicking the nlk button on the onscreen keyboard by using my mouse.
    the problem is is i press the numlock key again I will have to go through the whole process again.
    Anyone have any idea what could cause this or how to fix it permanently?
    If you might have a suggestion, please post it to me....

    This thread's been dead for a few years, but since I had to really search to find the answer to this issue, I thought i'd share what worked for me.
    In Win7, go to Start->Accessories->Ease of Access->Ease of Access Center, click "Make the mouse easier to use" and uncheck "Turn on mouse keys".  
    This fixed my problem on a HP G72 with integrated numeric pad.

  • Satellite P500 - After BIOS update the number pad isn't working anymore

    I just got a Satellite P500 and am running Windows 7. I downloaded all of the latest drivers and updated the system bios to version 1.70 (from Toshiba's support website). Now, my number pad on the keyboard is not working.
    The numlock light is on and when I hit the "6" key on the number pad, it turns the light on/off but the behavior of the other keys does not change whether it is on or off. The "-" key enters a "6" but none of the other keys (except "enter" does anything.
    I removed the keyboard driver and restarted to re-install the keyboard driver but that had not effect. The keyboard did work for a few days after I flashed the bios but seems to have stopped since I started using a USB mouse. I tried uninstalling the USB mouse driver but that did not do anything either (it was a Logitech driver).
    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance

    I'm having this exact same issue, Did the BIOS update, which fixed the problem for Vista X64, formatted the machine to windows 7, Number pad keys except 6 and - Register as the Fn Button, Bringing up the function shortcuts display when pressed in windows, recovered from 7 to Vista X64 using Built in recovery partition, Problem still exactly the same. i have reset BIOS to defaults twice now, which has not resolved the issue. the next step will be to reflash the bios with the update again to see if this will fix the issue as it did once before. Laptop Model P500/025 Or Part number PSPE8A-025002
    *EDIT: I reflashed the BIOS with 1.70 Again and the number pad is back to normal. Seems like an extreme fix for a silly problem. Every time you format you have to Reflash your bios, risky no?*

  • No Number Pad on Unlock/PIN

    My phone is completely useless.  I have a Simple PIN, but the only thing the phone shows me is the blue sky background where the number pad would be.  I have tried soft reset, I have tried taking the battery out, I have almost tried throwing it on the concrete until it smashes into one thousand pieces.
    This is unacceptable. Does anyone know what is going on or how I can use the phone I purchased

    Soft reset didn’t work, the ringer/button combo trick didn’t work.  I used webOS Doctor: http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/pre/recoverytool/webos_java_sprint.html.  Doctor was an extremely painful process for Windows 2003 and after about 7 attempts and an amazing amount of patience including trial and error, the phone was restored.
    Most things were wiped, but it didn't delete the photos I had taken, my mms or downloaded photos, or the wallpapers I had...the only saving grace because those are irreplaceable and not part of the 'profile backup'.
    The other issue about the phone is that the power button was broken...this is the second Pre I've had where the power button just stops working.  So, I got a replacement Pre from my local Sprint store.  *New problem*: not of all my contacts were retrieved with the Profile Backup...so it took the technicians ALL day to restore my phone.
    Needless to say, my brand new Pre works, allows me to use the phone, all of my contacts are available, and I will be going to the HTC Hero next month.

    It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
    First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:

    If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
    As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • Lost my number pad?

    I have the 3 month subscription unlimited to Can and US. However, somewhere along the line I've lost the ability to call numbers as I have no number pad. I am not sure where this has gone, or how to go about getting it back. I can call numbers that I already have in my contact list, so it's not a subscription issue, but I can not place calls to new numbers. Help? What am I missing?

  • No Number Pad Now After Call is Connected Cannot ...

    Suddenly the number pad icon which can normally be clicked to dial phone extensions or other automated options, is missing! I have no way of pressing a number to get through autmoated phone system menus.
    Is there a new way to enable this or what?
    Running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit... fully up to date.

    You can try these resets to see if either fixes your problem:
    • Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
    Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    • Reset NVRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R.
    Turn on your Mac.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys immediately after you hear the startup sound.
    Hold these keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for a second time.
    Release the keys.
    After resetting NVRAM, you may need to reconfigure settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information.
    If issues related to these features continue on a desktop Mac (like an iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro), its logic board battery may need to be replaced. The logic board battery on desktop computers helps retain NVRAM settings when your Mac is unplugged. You can take your Mac to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

  • Edit functions using number pad no longer working

    suddenly (within the last week) I try to say, move a track by selecting it, typing say, + 1.0 enter, and last week that would have moved the track 1 second to the right. Now, everything locks up. If I force quit the finder, when it restarts, everything works perfectly again. If I try to move the playhead by using the number pad, the same thing happens. I deleted preferences, repaired permissions, changed out the keyboard, nothing seems to help. I'm wondering if one of the updates is wonky, so I'm asking if anyone else (I know it's unlikely, but I don't want to reinstall) has experienced this anomoly.

    i've not experienced this particular issue, but before you try a full reinstall, I find it is often useful to create a new user account, and test to see if the problem still occurs in that new 'clean' account ... it often appears to slove the issue(s), which points towards some conflict/corruption within your original user account.
    you could then chose to either migrate to the new user account, try deleting all your old user prefs (not just fcp) and see if that helps ... or just use fast user switching and continue using your original account for daya to day tasks and maintain the 'clean' account just for editing

    I got a new keyboard and every one that I got, the number pad won't work....its like that on every keyboard that i have bought. The number lock button light wont come on. Is there something i can do to make the number pad work without buying a mac keyboard from the mac store?

  • Number Pad stuck in Cursor mode.. any ideas to turn num lock on?

    I have the older version of the apple wireless kb and for some reason i thought the number pad never worked. I was ok with it because I never used it all too much. Months later my mouse froze up when my dog stepped on my keyboard but the cursor was moving. I noticed her paw was on the number pad and realized the numbers were moving the cursor. I figured it was some how in a num lock off state.
    My question is how to take turn the num lock on so I can finally use my number pad, because the keyboard doesn't actually have a num lock button.
    I have looked at all the preferences and short cuts in the help and preferences.

    Have you tried to give your iPad a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if it helps.
