Number Pad Keyboard Keys wrongly mapped

Hi Folks,
Hope someone out there can help.  I am using a Mac Full Keyboard, ie Number Pad included, and recently the * and / Keys on the Number have started producing ' (Single Quote) and ; (Semi-Colan) instead.
Is my keyboard knackered, or have I accidently remapped my keys?
Fingers crossed someone can help,
Treders

If I ddn't know better, & I don't, I'd hahly suspect any KB by Apple.
But then they've really messed up the OS, might try some workarounds...

  • Differentiate between shortcut keys Alpha (keyboard) Enter and Number Pad (10 key) Enter

I need to be able to differentiate between the Keyboard enter and the 10 key enter (see image below) using a shortcut key in Captivate and/or Flash. These keys are used for two different reasons in the application that I am creating a simulation for.  Using ENTER allows the learner to use either key to continue with the simulation. I would like to force use of each of these keys differently.

  • Number pad/arrow keys

I was trying out the arrow keys in the built in laptop keyboard on a program and found that the numlk does not light up but it does on my desktop. Is there a way to use the numlk in the application i am using?

    Hello sharon:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Run, don't walk to the phone. Call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty problem. The KB is (or will be shortly) out of warranty. It may take you some time, but it may save you some money in the long run.
Incidentally, it appears to me that your KB is, indeed, broken.

  • Apple Keyboard with number pad the V key will not work

Apple Keyboard with number pad the V key will not work.  Everyother key works but not the V.  I have a MacBook Pro.  Any suggestions?

Call AppleCare and get it replace if it's under warranty; otherwise, get a new one. They're only $49 USD.

  • Number pad on 10 key keyboard and Windows

For some reason, my 10 key does not work on my keyboard on the Windows (XPSP3) partition. Anyone know of a button to use to turn on the number lock on it? It currently works as if the number lock is not on.

    Hi,
for activation of number keys you usually have to press the so-called 'clear'-key.
It's the one directly above the '7'-key of the number pad.
And you usually have to do that only once, as Windows 'remembers' that setting.
In Windows it's called the 'NumLock'-key.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • Keyboard number pad not working....

I have installed Leopard, and now my number pad won't work. I have looked under System Preferences, and found nothing wrong there. I have the aluminum keyboard that is wired. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks...

I am having the same problem on my 24" imac (late 2006).
My keyboard is a wireless mac keyoard.
All the number keys (0-9), as well as the decimal key do not work. When trying to use these keys in TextEdit or TextWrangler, they actually cause the keyboard to appear to lock up (command-option-esc clears, with no need to actually force-quit anything). The F-keys also appear to continue working.

    Hi,
does the numpad work in other Windows programs, or is it just the MS Office programs ?
Have you tried the 'clear'-key (the one above the '7'-key on the numpad) to enable the numpad ?

  • Disfunctional Keyboard Number Pad

I've been having weird problems with my keyboard's number pad.  Initially, it starts off fine when I boot up the computer.  However, it eventually starts acting funny.  The number keys on it act like num lock is turned off, regardless of it's state.  Even the keys for the math symbols don't work.  They simply don't do anything.  And the plus key acts like the right mouse button in some applications.  My keyboard is the Logitech Wave Keyboard, but I'm doubting that's the problem because it's never acted like this before.  Also, a few weeks ago, the number pad started acting like Num Lock was in the opposite state.

I haven't seen this problem coming up in a couple days, so I'm guessing it is resolved.  Right now, I can think of two possible causes.  For one, the problem always (or usually) started when I was using OpenOffice.org, which I haven't been using as much.  So it's possibly a bug in OpenOffice.  Also, A few days ago I stopped using evdev as my mouse driver, since it had been causing problems with cycling the input events in /dev/input.  I'm guessing it was more likely to be caused by driver interference.

You may need to press the 'Num Lock' button or key on your keyboard, or you may have enabled 'Mouse Keys.'

  • Extending F-Keys - is there a F-Key number pad?

I have the wireless apple keyboard which only has twelve f-keys. Does anyone know of a device like a number pad that would add some additional F-keys which I could assign actions to?
Please don't suggest the following - I am aware of these options and they don't resolve a very specific issue/workflow I am trying to enable.
    1) just use the fully apple keyboard that have extended F keys
    2) use modifier keys for your F keys for addition functions
I have tons of quick keys that I use across the OS, and across apps, and I am trying to find single key presses (without modifiers) that I can press to increase functionality and apple's multipurpose Fkey option makes my goals difficult?
Any suggestions? I love the wireless keyboard, but I just want to be able to add additional keys.
    Thanks!

Check out the Belkin Nostromo N52... It's designed as a gaming input device, but it should suit your needs nicely. It has 14 keys (all programmable, even macros) as well as a scroll wheel, 8-way D-pad, and several other buttons.
I'm 99% sure they have OSX drivers for it...
Saitek makes something similar as well, but I don't know about OSX compatibility...

  • Keyboard glitch--number pad with SL

One computer, two drives with two different OSX versions; one Leopard and one Snow Leopard. It keeps me from having all my eggs in one basket.
One keyboard. The extended aluminum slab.
Booting in SL causes the number pad's numbers to fail to work. Booting in 10.5 Leopard has them working just fine.
Before installing SL over the previous OSX, they worked fine. All the other keys work just fine in both versions.
I've tried to find anything similar on this in the discussions, but either nothing's there or I missed it. How can I get my keyboard functional in SL?

I don't know if SL boots up with that check box checked as the default or what. Maybe I was fooling with it months ago and the SL install simply inherited it.
Wouldn't it be nice if potentially mind-warping settings like this were the subject of a poster when SL booted up from a restart?

  • 10.8.4 and extended keyboard number pad issues

To anyone that has heard of this before. I've checked about every discussion here and I don't know that this issue has been resolved. I recently upgraded to 10.4.8 as most here have done. The odd and annoying thing thats happened now is that my apple wireless keyboard's number pad no longer works; The number 5 key seams to have become related to a left click on the mouse wherever the curser is on the screen, but no other keys work. This problem has also crippled any web browser I use such as Safari or Firefox; meaning that if I attempt to use the number pad in a login field, the mouse can no longer select or move open windows.
My one remedy to all of this has been to open the Force Quit Applications menu and all is well with the mouse again. One last point I can make is that by creating a new user account, all my keyboard and mouse problems go away, and everything acts as it should. I just don't want to have to back up everything and reinstall the system. So my mac faithful friends, please help.
    2GHz iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 GB DDR SDRAM

    I found the answer!!!!!
I was looking in universal access under the mouse settings and noticed something called mouse keys. Some how I turned that option on and it turned the number pad into a way of moving the curser multiple directions with the ability to select items by pressing the #5 key. I hope this may help others, I've been stuck with this one for a few days.
