Numbered bookmarks w/PDFMaker 9 -- is it possible?

I recently upgraded to Acrobat 9 and now when using Word 2007's PDFMaker, bookmarks have no section numbers darn it.
Also, using the same job setting as w/Acro 8, *some* elements (bitmaps) in Visio OLEs in Word 2007 now disappear.
Advice welcome

You may have an extension that has removed that menu item.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Numbered bookmarks

In Acrobat Pro version 8 I could generate a PDF from a Word (2007) document that contained numbered headings such that the PDF bookmarks were created with the same numbering system and hierarchy. I find that in Acrobat 9 Pro I cannot generate the numbered headings. I have tried every permutation of the provided Preferences options without success. The best I can get is unnumbered headings.
I can turn off the automatic bookmark creation and use the 'New Bookmarks from Structure' option once I have created the PDF and while this gets me numbered bookmarks the headings are truncated and there is no indentation. I have to manually drag 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc. under 1 to create an expandable/collapsible list. This is tedious and time consuming in large documents with lots of chapters and headings.
It worked so well in the previous version that I'm considering going back. What am I missing? It seems such a basic feature that previously worked really well.

I am using the PDFMaker addin in Word 2007 from the Adobe toolbar. I have tried changing the Adobe PDF Preferences options (from within Word) and can get numbered headings to appear in the bookmarks panel, but they have no hierarchy. I still have to manually move level 2 headings beneath level 1 and level 3 headings beneath level 2, etc.
I can get the expected hierarchy displayed as per the heading levels in Word, but without any heading numbering.
I have checked for updates but I am already on version 9.1 an no further updates existed.
    This worked perfectly in 8.1.

okay. when i connected my iphone 5 to itunes it replaced all of the data from my old iphone 3gs (contacts, apps, notes, bookmarks, photos, music, everything you can possibly think of) with my new iphone 5's data. I am so frustrated with this. Why? and it did it by itself, i didnt touch anything, or clicked anything. please help me this is urgent! I am a businessman and need my contacts.

You're iPhone was probably set to automatically sync with your iTunes upon plugging it in. Best option is to restore from a backup, either on iCloud or your computer.

  • Bookmarks in PDFMaker

    Hi All,
I'm using PDFMaker in a macro to create a pdf file. Using AdobePDFMakerForOffice.ISettings I'm able to set the other properties of the pdf but not the bookmarks preferences. I would like to set the bookmarks (like heading1, heading2 etc..) using the script in the macro.
Is there any way to achieve this?
    Thanks!

Ok, I have some bad news and some worse news, but it's best to cover it now to save you time.
    1. Acrobat development needs the Acrobat SDK, which is mainly documentation. If it isn't documented, it isn't supported. And, the objects for PDFMaker are not documented.
    2. And there is no other supported mechanism for using the full power of PDFMaker.
    3. Acrobat is not technically suitable for use on a server.
    4. Acrobat is not licensed for use on a server (I understand) and no server license can be purchased.
I do have some news that may be good. Adobe's LiveCycle PDF Generator is a server product with Java API which might be what you need.

  • Convert Word 2007 doc to PDF, numbered bookmarks lose numbering

I've never had trouble converting a Word 2007 document to PDF before. All the bookmarks I selected converted nicely and retained their numbering. Recently my IT department upgraded me to Acrobat Pro X and I'm having several bookmark issues.
    1. Some of the bookmarks I select in the Acrobat ribbon --> Preferences --> Bookmarks are not converted and I have to manually create them in the PDF.
    2. None of the bookmarks retain Word numbering. I have Word 2007 Headings numbered in the document, but in the PDF, none of the bookmarks are numbered. This is a major pain to edit each bookmark to add the proper heading numbers (1, 1.1, 1.2, 2, 2.1, etc.).
Are these known issues and are defect corrections in the works? Is anyone else having these problems?

I'm having the same problem. As you can see, the number appears in the heading, which came from MS Word, but not in the bookmark.

  • I can't open firefox on an old computer, but would still like to access my firefox bookmarks on that computer, is that possible, if so, how?

My old computer is infected with a virus that won't allow me to open Firefox -or Windows Explorer, for that matter- but since I'm no longer using that computer, that isn't an issue. However, I do need some bookmarks from the old computer. Is it at all possible to find them despite these handicaps? If so, how? I believe I was running Firefox 3 or 4 on the old comp.

You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

  • PDF file includes an extraneous numbered bookmark that is outside the hierarchy.

When I convert Word documents to PDF, certain styles generate duplicate bookmarks. One bookmark is correct and falls in the proper order in the bookmark hierarchy. The other bookmark is numbered and falls outside the hierarchy. I am using Acrobat 9 Pro. Any solutions?

    Hi,
Could you please let me know the version of Acrobat 9 present on your machine? This you can tell by navigating to Help -> About Adobe Acrobat.

  • Numbers unsaved document retrieval.  Is it possible?

I had been working on a project in Numbers, went to save it and the spinning rainbow wheel appeared.  I let it sit for about 30 minutes and it didn't stop, so I force shut down my computer but can't retrieve the document I was working on.  Is it possible to get the document back?

    (1) English is not my natural language so I will not enter a discussion about the best way to describe the system behavior. What is important is that you save when it's useful to do.
    (2) When the app warns you that the document can't be saved, it's an other feature.
    (a) there is a quite ridiculous case : when we decide to duplicate a document whose changes were not saved (because this doc was never saved before, see above).
In such case tell it that you really want to save the replicate and all will behave flawlessly.
    (b) more annoying case, a folder impacted by the Save workflow has permissions forbidding the system to apply the wanted task. We must search which is this folder.
(ii) the file was opened from a network. If the network isn't using the HFS+ structure (most often networks use an other structure), assuming that it's time for the system to store a version too, it will refuse.
It may appear to be annoying but the correct workflow is to download the file on the local machine, work upon it. Close it when the edit task is achieved. Then and only then, move the file to the network.
I repeat what I wrote some minutes ago, there is no provision for collaborative work in iWork so, if user2 downloaded the file and work upon his copy when yo move your file on the network, your changes will be killed when user2 will move his own version to this network.
I apologize but it's not the user which decide what an application may do. It's the design team.
(iii) the file was opened from a standard HD connected to the machine. Be patient and scan the impacted folders to identify the one with wrong permissions. This problem is not rare after installing an update. This is why some helpers wrote, from time to time : « run System Utility to repair permissions after an update ».
My own experience is that since I dropped delta updaters (the ones applied thru Software Updater) applying always combo updaters, I never got this kind of permissions problem. But maybe it's because I'm lucky or because I have so bad temper that such problems take care to strike elsewhere.

  • My laptop harddrive crashed. I have installed a new hard drive. I want to retreive all Firefox bookmarks and History. Is it possible? I use windows XP

I use a Windows XP Laptop and Firefox browser ( free don't remember the version). My hard drive crashed today 31.07.2011 and I installed a new hard drive with installed Windows XP. • One of the folders in my bookmarks mysteriously has at least hundreds (possibly thousands) of copies of certain urls. Any suggestions on how to fix this folder without losing all of my other (very carefully filed) other urls?

When I try to delete them, the page becomes slow and unresponsive, taking a very long time to merely select a screenful of them and then an even longer time to delete them. there are so many copies it would take me days to clear out them out by selecting only a screenful at a time.
All the other folders and urls seem to function normally.

    Thanks for your reply!
Sorry, I should have mentioned that the folder is the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder, and is apparently undeleteable - at least that option is ghosted. Do you know of a way to delete the whole Unsorted Bookmarks folder? Or is the default that it IS deleteable and this is only occurring on my system?
Trying to select a range of bookmarks within the Unsorted Bookmarks Folder immediately causes the page to become unresponsive and tediously slow so that it becomes impossible to select more than a miniscule fraction of the files at one time, and an even longer time (as I mentioned above) to delete them. It seems to me that somehow that one folder has become corrupt, but I don't want to start completely fresh and lose all my hard work in ordering my thousands of other bookmarks.
    Any suggestions or clues?

  • Opening Bookmark Collections in a separate window- possible?

    Hi,
I have not been able to find this elusive command, which another celebrated Mac browser has... press option together with the Bookmark button on the toolbar and voila! you get another window exclusively holding your bookmarks.
    Is this available in Safari?
    N5

No you cannot open the bookmarks page in a new window or tab. One work-around is to press Command-T for a new tab or Command-N for a new window first and then open the bookmarks page.
If you always want to have your bookmarks available, you can set your bookmarks as your home page so that they will always appear in the first tab when you open Safari. Command-Double Clicking on any bookmark will open that bookmark in a new tab, leaving all your bookmarks still visible in your first tab.

  • Is it possible to have multiple bookmarks files or tabs with different content, like Bookmarks 1, Bookmarks 2 etc. inside the same profile?

I guess this is more like a new feature in Firefox. I work at home and would like to separate work related bookmarks in a separate bookmarks file which is as easily available like a standard bookmarks tab. I propose a possibility to add multiple bookmarks tabs in the menu bar. It would be nice if those tabs could be renamed at will...

You can organize them in a few main folders (Home, Work, etc.) to make it easier to distinguish the bookmarks.
You can also export the Bookmarks to an HTML file and make copies of that file with the needed bookmarks.<br />
You can open such a HTML file in a Firefox tab and middle-click a link to open that link in a new tab.

  • Directory structure contained in bookmarks

    To whom it may concern,
Is it possible to preserve/show the directory structure of series of PDF files that are combined using Acrobat Professional? I have various PDF files sorted with a specific directory structure. I would like the combined PDF file to automatically reflect the directory structure in its bookmarks. Is this at all possible?
    Regards,
    Marcu

in the bookmarks you can create several main headings and then nest child headings for each main heading. that way you can simulate the directory structure. there is no limit to the numbers of levels you can use but for a funtional perspective, you probably shouldn´t use more than 3 levels. More than 3 levels makes your list confusing (more levels more screen space wich decreases the size of the document pane)

Yes. Look at the Acrobat JavaScript documentation. You can use the VB - JavaScript bridge.
