Numbering Files On Import

When I import files, using an Aperture counter, it seems I only have two options.
Pickup numbering where it left off, or reset back to 1.
Is that true?
I'd like to be able to add images to an existing Project using the same name and pick up where the numbering left off. Can Aperture do that for me? Or do I have to manually go into the naming preset and force the starting number manually?

You have to set the counter manually by changing the value in the Preset.
The behavior of the "Index", "Sequence", and "Counter" file naming variables seems to differ depending on whether or not you are importing into the last-used Project or not.  A good way to see this is to set up a File Naming Preset something like:
Index-{Index #}_Sequence-{Sequence #}_Counter-{Counter}
and try it on four or five files repeatedly.
You might consider other file naming conventions.  Here is what I use.

  • Itunes & numbers will not import excel files

I have tried with several different files and with different types. But numbers will not import any excel files to my ipad. Is there something i am missing?

Have you copied the files from iTunes to the Numbers program? Go to the My Spreadsheets page in Numbers and tap the in box (Open box with in arrow). You will see a couple of option with one of those being "Copy from iTunes". Try that and the file should appear in My Spreadsheets.

  • File Numbering in Auto Import

This probably isn't the right forum for this, but maybe someone can help. Is there a way to control the file numbering on auto-import? When I set up to shoot tethered, files that are autoimported don't number consecutively. There seems to be no pattern, sometimes all odd, sometimes not, sometimes just skipping numbers. If I start at 1, shoot 30 pictures, my last file might be numbered 67. I'm shooting through Canon Capture, placing photos in a folder on my desktop and autoimporting from there. Lightroom 1.1 (though it happened in 1.0), Mac OS10.4.10. Thanks.

To get rid of them you will need to find that auto import folder and delete them. If you search for the name in spotlight, then do Show All, when you click on a name you should see the file path to it at the bottom of the finder window, like this:
If you double click the name of the enclosing folder it will open and you can see the file to delete it. In my example if I want to get rid of roykitchen.jpg, double clicking the roykitchen folder name will show it to me.

  • How do I import a numbers file into my pages document?

I have created a Pages document that I could like to import a Numbers file into the document for my presentation...any ideas on how to accomplish this? Help!

    Hey amyrivera911fire!
While you cannot import the whole Numbers document into the Pages document, you can copy and paste data from a Numbers file into a Pages file:

  • How do I import a numbers file to address book?

I am trying to import a numbers file to my address book on the mac.  Please advise

in Numbers 2.3, you would Drag a contact to a blank Numbers Sheet, creating a table with the proper format for going in the other direction. Fill in the data and Export to CSV. Import that CSV file from the Contacts File menu.
In Numbers 3.0, I can't think of a way because it is no longer possible to drag a contact into the Numbers app.

  • How many sheets can you save in a Numbers file?

Hi folks.  I am desperate for help.  I have a very important Numbers file that I am working with, where I need to add 289 "sheets" to a single file.   Everythign was fine, until I am trying to add my 146th sheet.   When I add that next sheet, It will no longer auto save or let me manually save!
I can't find any file size or number of sheet limits.
What can I do?  I really must have each sheet on the same file.
    Please advise.
    Drew

    Drew,
According to the following discussion, Yvan Koenig states that you can have 255 Tables per Sheet and 255 Sheets per Document:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/7813797#7813797
In my opinion, anything approaching this order of magnitude belongs in an Office or Office-clone app. Numbers is bound to choke sooner or later with this much data.
If you are certain that you haven't hit one of these limits, there may be other reasons you can't save that we can't guess with the information that you provided.

  • Why can't I open just one of my numbers files?

    Hello,
I am unable to open a rather important numbers file on my macbook pro. I can open all other numbers files but when I double click this one, it sort of "shines" as if its going to open then nothing happens. The data in it is really important and I can't get to it. I also have set up my time machine (as I don't know how) and wondered if anyone has any suggestions?
    Many Thanks

If you meant that you have not set up your time machine, the following may help with that: Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
Regarding the Numbers file -- this is a long shot, but rather than double-clicking on it you might try first starting Numbers and then use its File menu Open command and see if that will open the file.

  • How do I open a Numbers file sent to me that has been converted to Excel?  I already have MS Office for Mac.Ow

How do I open a Numbers file sent to me that has been converted to Excel?  I already have MS office for Mac, but nothing comes up when I click on the imported file.

If it indeed has been converted from Numbers to Excel, it will have a .xlsx suffix at the end of the name. Do a Get Info on the file if the suffix doesn't show. Else, it may still be in Numbers format and be unreadable by Excel.
If it is in the right format, and you don't want to have to do what mende1 has instructed above for every successive file, click on the "Always open with..." option. That will associate the .xlsx suffix to Excel from thereon.

  • How to merge 2 numbers file???

Is there a way to merge 2 or 3 numbers files into one? I can't find a import into an existing numbers file.
    Thanks for your help!

The first method that comes to mind is to copy all the contents of the sidebar in one file and paste them into the sidebar of the second file.
Select a sheet in the sidebar of file 1.
    Press CMD-a to select all.
    Press CMD-c to copy.
Click in the sidebar of file 2.
    Press CMD-v to paste.
Not as elegant as an import, but since all the sheets can be copied at once, this seems simple enough and works well. Once all the sheets are in a single file, then the tables can be dragged around from sheet-to-sheet as needed.

  • Spotlight in "Open Dialog" fail to find "Numbers" file

    Hi,
when i use the spotlight search tool inside the open dialog box from Numbers it seem to be unable to find "Numbers file".
Let say I have 4 files on my Hard Drive :
    - FileName1.xls
    - FileName1.Numbers
    - FileName2.xls
    - FileName2.Numbers
If I type "FileName" in Finder > Spotlight It get all the 4 files.
If I type "FileName" in Numbers > Open Dialog > Spotlight it get :
    - FileName1.xls
    - FileName2.xls
Either I check or not different search options (filename / content / Start / My iMac ...)
    Any idea what's wrong ?
    Thank you.

    Bonjour,
    Concernant votre dernier message :

  • Opening numbers file on iPhone

I have created a numbers file on my mac, then uploaded it to iCloud. When I try and open the file in Numbers on my iPhone, I get the message "....an unknown error occurred spreadsheet couldn't be imported..."
I have tried different spreadsheets and even deleted Numbers and re-installed.... to no avail.
I think this started after I updated my iPhone software... would that make any difference?

    It doesn't.

  • Ipad Numbers apps unsuccessfully importing Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet

Here are what I did. I first sent a Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet (the format is xlsx) to my email. And then I opened it via Numbers in iPad Mini. The Numbers was importing the Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet. It took about 2-3 minutes importing the file. The importing status bar was indicating the progress. When the importing status bar was about completed and then the Numbers apps closed itself. I first thought it completed importing the file. I opened the Numbers apps, there was nothing. I attempted opening it for several times but it ended up the same. That seemed the Numbers was having a problem importing Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet. By the way, there are several tabs in the Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet. Would that be a reason why Numbers couldn't import the file successfully? Or maybe Numbers only import Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet with single tab in the file? Please help!

    gogreen2e wrote:
It's just general worksheet. No pivot table, no VBA logic. But there are several tabs. One of the tabs has formulas linked to other tabs. For example, formula like: '=Sheet2!B2'.
Its possible either of those could be a factor. I'm not sure if there is a top end limit on the number of tabs Numbers will handle (at least haven't run into to it yet). The formula syntax you have does not match what number presents, so that could be the issue, but I seem to recall it has not had an issue converting in the past. Could be wrth a look however.

  • Problems appearing when exporting excel file into numbers file

    Hello,
I have a Problem, need HELP!!
I have an excel file with graphics, and data are written on graphs: these data are percentages. When I export my excel file on numbers (becomes therefore a numbers file), my problem appears: When I have for example 24% on a graph, it becomes 0.24 and I can't find the way to write it 24% again.
Also I have a problem with graphics titles: when I export the excel file into numbers, graphics title are not correctly centered anymore and I cannot find the way to fix them correctly...
    Thanks a lot!!!!

It seems that only sectorial charts may display percent.

Sounds as if you are in cases where the charts are imported as a single graphic block, not as different components.

  • HT201279 convert Numbers file to Excel format

When I convert my Numbers file to Excel format, each worksheet name is appended with "Table - 1".
Each subsequent conversion adds another "Table - 1" to the name of every worksheet as well.
How do I stop this from happening?

If you are exporting then importing repeatedly, it will keep appending these things to the names.
Numbers document with two sheets, both with a single table called "Table 1" will get exported as two Excel worksheets: "Sheet 1 - Table 1" and "Sheet 2 - Table 1". It creates a separate Excel worksheet for every table and names each with the sheet and table name.
Reimporting this to Numbers will result in a Numbers document with a sheet called "Sheet 1 - Table 1" and another called "Sheet 2 - Table 1" and both will contain a single table called "Table 1".  It imports each Excel worksheet as a Numbers Sheet and creates a table for each called "Table 1".
It really doesn't work well to import & export repeatedly. Much better to use one app or the other.

  • Does iPhoto change a RAW file upon import or export?

Hi! New Mac user here. Trying to get my workflows and backups going.
I created an iPhoto library from multiple sources: migration from PC, folders from backup HD, new photos from iPhone and camera memory card.
So I have one consolidated library that is almost 300Gb but I want to go through and remove and archive many of these, leaving only a much smaller working library with the archive copies of some originals stored somewhere else.  These archive copies will not be referenced files, my plan is to export them from iPhoto, back them up to an external HD, and then delete them from the iPhoto library. If I ever decided to look at them again, I would import them from the archive HD.
Ideally, I should have imported all the files to my iMac desktop and then imported only what I wanted into iPhoto, but because everything is now consolidated (and the photos from the iPhone and camera memory card are erased), I don't want to wipe out my iPhoto library and start over. So I'm starting with this huge managed library and want to export a good part of it to what I will call "the archive" to cull it down.
My questions: Upon import, did iPhoto change the RAW master files, or will those be the same when I export them (assuming I made no edits)? Did iPhoto change the JPEGs or will those also be the same when I export them?
How do I export the files I want to save to the archive before deleting them from the iPhoto library?
Alternatively, I think I will use Aperture going forward for editing.  Should I use that instead for trying to export these files?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
    LCA
iMac 4 GB, 2.7 GHz, Intel Core i5
    OS X 10.7.4
    iPhoto 9.3.1
    Aperture 3.3.1

File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue set the Kind to Original
That will export a byte by byte copy of the file you imported, unchanged in any way.
Can I suggest another way of working. Why not have two Libraries? An archive and a working one?
The principle advantage is that you won't have to import pics to review them again later, just open the other library.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager
