Numbering in pdf

I am using iAuthor with my imac (Mavericks) and have successfully created a book of 68+pages which I want to export as:
an epub for viewing with ibook
a pdf file to view on the non mac computer without ibook
When I export the book to epub the numbering is in tack with the tile page and table of contents having no page numbers with page 1 being the first page of text.  This is as it should be.
When I export as a pdf, I understand that the Table of contents will not show (the one generated by iauthor) but the Tile page (book cover) shows as page 1.  Consequently,  the pages are off by one, when compared to the the ibook version.
Is there a way when exporting to pdf, to have the title page contain no page number so that the two versions will have the same page references?
Thanks,
GJH

an epub for viewing with ibook
Export your finished book. iBA does not create ePubs..   drag the xxxx.ibooks file onto iBooks on your computer.
a pdf file to view on the non mac computer without ibook
Export as PDF and distribute as you choose.
The TOC does not transfer to PDFs.
I do not think you can compare page numbers from different type of file.
Why is this relevant when you are using PDFs on none Mac type computer... and iBooks on Macs.

  • Page numbers in PDF?

I cannot figure out how to identify the page numbers of a PDF document when I view it in Safari 5.0.3. The original paper document has its own numbering system, but the PDF page-numbers are completely different. When I go to print individual pages of the PDF document, I don't know what page numbers to put into the printer window.
I asked the publisher of the PDF document for advice. This is what it advised:
"This is an issue with printing PDFs (Portable Document Files) in general, and does not pertain exclusively to printing PDFs in FDsys. When printing a PDF document in your web browser, the web browser is printing the pages of the electronic file (the PDF) not the page numbers that appear on the original publication (from which the PDF is derived). The page numbers of a PDF document do not always match the page numbers appearing on the publication itself. For example, in the example you cited (http://www.gpo.gov:80/fdsys/pkg/USCODE-2009-title26/pdf/USCODE-2009-title26-subt itleA.pdf), the page number on the publication is page 347. However, if you click anywhere in that page, you will see that the PDF reader you are using indicates the corresponding page in the PDF file in the toolbar at the top of the page (next to the up/down arrow icons). The page number indicated in the toolbar refers to the page numbers in the PDF file, and it is these page numbers that your browser is referring to during the printing process."
None of those instructions work in Safari. How do I find the page numbers for a PDF document in Safari?

    Hi Richard
the best bet is to open it in Preview using the relevant button that appears when you hover at the bottom of a pdf in safari. Although the page numbers that appear on each page still won't necessarily match, you can at least make preview show the 'pdf' numbers in the toolbar, which will match those you choose when printing.
a plugin like adobe's or http://schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/ may show page numbers within Safari, but that doesn't mean they'll match those which appear on the pages, in the example link you gave, and others.

  • Exporting numbers to PDF

I have created my numbers document.  I have exported to Pdf however it looks strange. I have added pages to the PDF from "pages" and the sizes of the pages in PDF are different to each other.  This looks very poor.   The numbers doc is wider and longer than a4.  I opened my numbers document and viewed it in print view to get a better idea of how to fit it to an A4 size.  This is successful however when I export it to PDF it does not appear any better.  In fact the page view seems to be relevant to only printing the page.  I have spent hours on looking through the program and am becoming quite frustrated.  The older version (numbers 9) worked a treat and looked fantastic in pdf.  I am not too impressed with the new version that is installed on the iMac.  I am using Yosemite.  Any suggestions or help on this??

Just a guess, but perhaps this is a "legacy" document you originally created in Numbers 2.3 and then opened it in Numbers 3 after the Mavericks update? See if you have the same problem with documents newly created in Numbers 3.  If you do not have the same problem in newly created documents, then you can probably conclude that the problem has something to do with that specific document.
If so, you can make a copy of the document and try removing tables and other objects one-by-one until it exports successfully. Then you'll know where the problem is and can go back to the orginal document and remove/"fix" that object.

  • Page numbers in pdf's

I am scanning textbooks into pdf's to make them available online to our students (with the company's permission).
There are 35 pages of introduction that Adobe Acrobat starts numbering as 1,2,etc. Is there a way to keep the introduction pages
in the front of the textbook but have the page numbers in the toolbar coincide with the page numbers in the textbook?
    Thank you.

This forum deals with Adobe Digital Editions, not Acrobat, so I don't think
you'll get a good answer.  Maybe - who knows?

  • How to change numbers of PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended #9

I just combined 3 PDF files that had their own numbering into one. I have searched how to change this file into a consecutive numbering with no success. I do the steps outlined to open the Number options, but when filling in the blanks, and making choices, nothing changes on the pages ... just in the thumbnail section.
    HELP!

Post your question in a forum for Acrobat. Adobe Reader can't change page numbers.

  • Numbers in PDF

I’m making reports in Numbers 3.2..Every report constist of 25 pages A4 in numbers.  After finishing my rapport, the file is about 600 KB.  I’m inserting about 50 pictures, after I exported them for the web…
I put everything together, save it as PDF, the file is about 1MB big in Numbers.  I save everything as a PDF file, and the file is about 100 MB big in PDF…
What do I do wrong ?  The file must be maximum 5 or 6 MB
    Thx for the help.

Try using the menu item "File > Reduce File Size"
Also try exporting using the menu item "File > Export To... > PDF..."
Then change the pop-up menu for "Image Quality"

  • Pages/Numbers export pdf to (iBook)

Since my iPad is basicly my new computer I got Pages and Numbers for it.
Now everything works fine somfar, but I am missing one small thing.
I did not buy 3G model, just Info on that part.
When I work with different docs, I love to save them as .pdf, both from Numbers and Pages. What I am missing is an export option, directly from Pages and Numbers to such readers as iBooks. Instead I have tp export to iDisk, send mail to myself og to iTunes, (iTunes I have not figurer out yet where the pdf goes)
Now if I where at a wi-fi all the time, this would not be a problem, part from the long process.
So no matter if I where at wi-fi or not, had 3G or not, it would be so much easier to be able to, export as .pdf directly into iBooks, for say.

  • Phone numbers in PDF files

    Is there a way to
make phone numbers live in a pdf file that is viewed on the iphone or other
smart phones so that if the user clicks on them they dial that phone number.?
    Chris

You're referring to the Data Detectors feature in Apple's iOS operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. (Whether there is such a feature for the Android operating system, I have no idea.)
It is not an industry standard like URLs (Universal Resource Locators) so there's no standard way of calling them out.
What you want is to make a feature request for Apple to recognize the Data Detectors in a PDF file, which I don't believe it currently does. I think you might ask on the Apple Forums, and not here.

  • Adding Bates numbers to PDFs increases file size by 10x - How to keep original size?

I have a lot of email texts that I converted from Word to PDF and then Bates numbered.
However, Bates numbering made each email's file size go from about 50kb to 500kb.
Once I combine these larger files for uploading to a docket, at the maximum allowable file size is 4 Mb, I can put together only 8-10 emails at a time.  What to do to keep the original file size small when Bates numbering?

    Hi paulu40695891,
Yes, there is a significant increase in the file size when one applies bates numbering to the pdf and saves it.
A workaround for this issue would be to save the pdf file again as reduced size pdf. (File -> Save as other -> Reduced Size PDF. )
Does that helps with your issue? Please revert back for any further query or assistance.

  • How do I rotate large numbers of pdfs

Hi, I scanned a large number of pages from a notebook on a multifunction copier.  It saves them as individual pdfs per scan.  Due to the way the copier is set up and the physical layout of the notebook, the pages are rotated differently on every other page.  When I combine them into one pdf in Acrobat 9, is there a way to rotate every other page one way, and every other page another, all at once without having to open each pdf and save them individually?  Thanks!

In the Document menu you can select Rotate,  in the rotate menu you can specify page ranges, to rotate even or odd page numbers, or to only rotate landscape pages.
You should also be able to do this on multiple documents using the menu option  Advanced/Document Processing/Batch Processing.
    Hope that helps.

  • Need help adding numbers to PDF drawing and more

I'm not an Adobe superuser so hopefully this isn't a stupid question. I receive drawings in PDF from my clients. The drawings look like Autocad and are pictures of parts with dimensions that I build for them. I number all the dimensions on the PDF drawing from 1 to whatever. I then create a spreadsheet with the numbers and the corresponding dimension plus other info. Currently I print the PDF then with a pen I manually number each dimension. Then I manually enter the dimension and special symbols in my spreadsheet. Ideally I'm trying to find a way to just click and have it enter a 1 then click and have it enter a 2 etc. If that's not possible then what's the easiest way to just click and allow me to type 1 then click and I type 2 etc.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

I think what you actually need is a dynamic stamp. Try searching these forums and also acrobatusers.com . There's a lot of information about it.

    group 1: 19.5
    group 2: 148.4
    actual Grand Total: 347.48
Then there are at least 3 groups. You don't say. So, how many
    groups are there altogether?

  • Print 2:1 layout from numbers into pdf zero bytes

    Output desired
1 page landscape with page 1 and 2 side by side
Problem: zero byte output when layout changed
Hi before mavericks / last numbers update i used to be able to print a spreadsheet with 2 separate sheets on one landscape page, by choosing print-->print...>layout (2 pages per sheet), then save as PDF.  Anytime I choose anything other than 1 page per sheet the resulting PDF file has zero bytes and doesn't work.  The print preview in numbers looks correct as well as the print dialogue preview.  Something is failing in the export.  Any ideas?

    Hi lotsokids,
Just to ensure we are all singing the same tune .
A Numbers document consists of one or more sheets (tabs).
Each sheet can have one or more tables plus other objects (shapes, charts, text boxes... ).
A page is a piece of paper in your printer.
Am I right in thinking you have two tables on one sheet?
And you want to line them up within the page margins so that they both print on one page? Screen shot from Print Preview:
Numbers 3 has lost the good old Print View and Layout View of Numbers 2. We are stuck with Print Preview with limited editing options. We can set page margins, orientation (landscape or portrait), page headers and footers, print This Sheet or All Sheets. You may have to drag the Print Setup Panel up to see all the options.
To help align objects within the page margins, click on Done to close Print Preview. Then Menu > Numbers > Preferences > Rulers (and tick all boxes).
Alignment Guides can be dragged from the rulers to show page margins.
See this User Tip on creating a Layout Guide in Numbers 3:
