Numbers 3.5 Manual

Have Numbers 3.5 (2109) (I assume that's "build 2109"?
Is there an apple digital manual for this rev of the software?
Latest I find is Number (in iWork '09) numbers '09--which predates the Yosemite version, which has changed the user interface all to **** and gone ("sidebar" control menus is more Adobe than Apple, but that's beside the point. Can't find a / the manual.

Unable to update numbering schemes in define purchasing options

Hi,
We are unable to update the numbering scheme from manual to automatic in define purchasing options (Numbering Tab). Documentation says that you can update it, but it does not give any reason under what circumstances we would not be allowed to update the numbering schemes.

I am doing multi organisation implementation and only one ledger they do not require Inventory and Purchasing modules. Because of that i will not create any inventory organisation for that selected ledger.
This ledger will have seperate responsibility for AP.
Howver, my problem is when i am trying to complete the financial options, inventory organisation is mandatory for that responsability. Without inventory organisation i am unable to save the financial options.
Please assist me how to overcome this issue.

Appleworks cwk files will not open in pages or numbers

I use AppleWorks 6.2.9. Since my upgrade to 10.6.8 AppleWorks will not permit the settings in any document to be changed with first quitting AppleWorks, removing the plist, restarting AW, and opening the file a second time. This is annoying. So, I am looking into moving to Pages and Numbers for my AW word processing and spreadsheet documents. Pages '09 trail was downloaded from the network and no document selected can be opened by either program. I simply get a dialog stating "File could not be opened".
Nor will Pages or Numbers opened these files that were translated into a different format by MacLinkPlus. Basically Pages and Numbers can not process and .cwk, .doc, or .xls file on my computer.
I am looking for solutions.

I don't have any Appleworks files but Numbers & Pages users manuals say they will import Appleworks 6 files. I can't say why yours will not if they are Appleworks 6 documents.
I also don't have MacLinkPlus but it might be doing one of two things: saving in a pre-'97 format of Excel or saving with non-standard header information in the file that Numbers does not understand.
I'm not being of much help so far. I've been looking all over and haven't found a solution for you. Sorry.

Batch of files manually sorted in Bridge - Can I run a PS Action in that manual order?

For some jobs my workflow ideally involves manually sorting the order of a batch of RAW files in Bridge (the RAW file names are as assigned by the camera) and then using a PS Action from Bridge to convert, save, and rename the batch of files. I want to end up with my image files sequentially numbered in the manually sorted order.
However, my PS Action automatically processes the files in ascending order of their RAW file names and therefore my manually assigned file order in Bridge is lost.
Is there a script (or other method) which will allow me to run a PS action from Bridge on a batch of files while keeping the manually sorted order for the purposes of the numbering sequence of the renamed output files?
My current workaround is to Batch Rename in Bridge a copied set of RAW files as an intermediate step to running my PS Action on the renamed RAW file copies. It's not a bad workaround but if there is an easier way, I would much appreciate knowing about it!

Geoff, here is an example that works for me. When I test ran the sample script based on some stuff that I do the files are process in the order of the manual sort and only the files in my selection are processed folders etc are ignored… I have NO idea how much people charge for this sort of thing I only do it for the learning process. If you can let me know what the Photoshop process is and your OS I 'may' be able to help but I make NO promises as Im still very much the learner with this stuff…

Is SUMIF broken in Numbers 3.0?

What happened exactly with the SUMIF function in Numbers 3.0? The behavior is different to Numbers 2.3.

According to the Numbers 3.0 manual:
"The SUMIF function returns the sum of a collection of numbers, including only numbers that satisfy a specified condition.
SUMIF(test-values, condition, sum-values)"
So Numbers 2.3 would be correct, summing up the values given in sum-values if the corresponding test-value matches the condition.
What happens in Numbers 3.0?

The bug actually seems to originate not from the regional settings but from the time zone, more specifically, I assume from the daylight saving.
For everyone who is interested, that's how you can reproduce the bug:
- Open template "Budget" in Numbers 2.3 or earlier.
-> Note how the additional income of June and December is added in the Annual Budget per Month
- Save it to a file
- Set the time zone to e.g. Central European Standard Time
- Open the saved file in Numbers 3.0
-> Now the additional income of June is added in June AND July, same for the additional income of December, which is added to November as well.
You can now close the file, switch the time zone to e.g. Greenwich Mean Time, reopen the file again and the bug is gone. It appears again if you switch back to CEST.
When using CEST or any other time zone where the bug appeared, I had a closer look into the format of the cells. Interestingly, if the title row of annual budget by month, where all the months are listed, is selected and the cells' format is changed from Automatic to Date & Time, they are converted completely wrongly to

Concluding, I'm not sure whether you can call this a bug or just an undefined behaviour caused by a crappy way of doing things. Very unfortunately this way of doing things badly is spread by Apple in its templates.
Nevertheless, I did report it, hopefully I'm not the only one.

@Jerry: thanks for your elaborate answer, I'll give it a try. You are right that it is dangerous to use strings for months. To be honest I probably wouldn't have done it if I wouldn't have blindly used Apple's Budget template. Unfortunately, this template uses a mix of pop-up menus (probably handled as strings) and automatically formated cells for the months.
Edit: I was using system language English throughout all the tests, so it is not a matter of the language, but most probably of the time zone.

Can I save my Numbers spreadsheet in Xcel?

I just upgraded from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Lion 10.7. So many things no longer work as well as they did! I wish I had not upgraded!
As a business owner, I like working in Numbers and then saving my ledger in an Xcel format for my bookkeeper. I do it every month, but now that I have upgraded, I don't seem to be able to save in Xcel. Is there a way to save in Xcel in the version 10.7 ? Help?

Duplicate concentric dots while keeping numbers upright

I'm trying to illustrate several concentric circles shaped with dots containing numbers, as follows:
Right now, I'm creating the circle patterns by rotating copies of the shape by even degree amounts. Each circle aside from the center one is a multiple of 6. Then I divide the number of dots in that circle by 360 degrees to determine the degree to which I must space the rotation of each dot in that circle from the previous one (always using the center of the dot in the very middle as an anchor point). The problem is that I want these circles to contain numbers, the orientation of which should not be rotated. Like above, the numbers should be 'upright.' So, simply copying a circle containing a number and rotating multiple copies of that circle is insufficient (i'll just end up with a bunch of rotated numbers).
Any ideas on how to on a very large scale (maybe 100 concentric circles made of dots), create this illustration and ultimately have the numbers upright (without manually making each number upright through individual rotation)?

With just a couple of minutes work I was able to make the following using a bit of text with an added fill converted to an ellipse (and tweaked slightly to center the text) and then use Object>Transform>Move to make the copies.

Start page numbering at 0

i've got a document with several sections. each section starts with a divider. the desired numbering is 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, etc. the x.0 page is the divider page for that section. the prefixes are easy, but i can't use 0 to start the numbering. i can manually change the number, but when a pdf is made, the page numbering is wrong. any suggestions? thank you, a

Serial numbers and equipment

Hi,
We have a setup where materials are managed with serial numbers (through serial number profile).
An equipment record is created automatically together with each serial number.
The serial numbers are assigned manually at the time of goods receipt. The equipment master is created in background.
The problem is that the serial numbers are unique: I cannot for example not assign serial number 100000000 to both material A and B.
Is there any solution to this? Is it possible to somehow allow the same serial number/equipment number created for 2 different materials? Or is it impossible with equipment requirement at serial number profile?

Now check the "Indicator: Serial Number Existence Requirement" infront of your Serial number profile.....
Now maintain master data in IQ04 for both materials.

Actually i have two tables.
First table has ID1, NAME1, REF1 columns.
Second table has ID2, NAME2, REF2 columns.
ID1 and ID2 is autonumbered id columns. NAME and REF columns are emtpy columns. I populated NAME1 and NAME2 manually entering data from my project.
Now i want to relate each table's rows one by one, i.e., one to one cardinality. Therefore, i have to populate first table's REF1 column with sequantial numbers, and then manually enter corresponding number to table two's REF2 columns.
I don't want to use ID columns, because i insert data these tables at different time intervals.
Hence, when i query TABLE1's NAME1 data, i will see corresponding data in TABLE2's NAME2 column via this relationship.

Why won't cells autopopulate when using numbers on the ipad? Anyone have a fix? Have also created a dropdown menu, but that does not translate from excel to numbers either.

Numbers incorrectly calculates Factorial 30?

I tried calculating Factorial 30 in Numbers. As a refresh, Factorial 30 is written as 30! and is product of all positive integers from 1 through 30.
In Numbers, I got the value 265,252,859,812,191,000,000,000,000,000,000 using PRODUCT function. In Numbers, when I manually multiply 30 x 29 x 28 .... x 1, I still get the same value 265,252,859,812,191,000,000,000,000,000,000.
But, actually Factorial 30 = 30! = 265,252,859,812,191,058,636,308,480,000,000
It appears Numbers 0's out the digits after 191. Is there a limitation in Numbers on how large a number can be multiplied?

Mac Mini + DVI- HDMI + Toshiba 42RV530U = black screen

Hi all, I have a new Intel Mac Mini 2GHz and a Toshiba 42RV530U REGZA HDTV that I'm trying to connect, with only a black screen so far.
I believe the DVI output on the Mini is working - I can at least get a picture with a DVI-S-Video cable, but it's obviously lower resolution. The DVI-HDMI cable works - I tried it on our cable box.
When the DVI-HDMI cable is hooked up to the HDMI-1 input on the TV, the "No Signal" warning vanishes, but it's replaced by a black screen. No amount of fiddling with SwitchResX has worked so far.
I've tried coming up with values for SwitchResX based on these numbers from the manual (don't know why the H Freq and V Freq give 2 values for each). I couldn't get exact values, but pretty close. I'd ideally like to get 1080p working.

I've also tried repairing permissions, rebooting many times, deleting the windowserver.plist files, zapping the PRAM, etc. SwitchResX identifies the TV as "TSB-TV", which sounds the same as other posts with different Toshiba TVs. I'm able to remote into the Mini via Remote Desktop Connection to play with settings, etc.
Any suggestions? Would a DVI to Component cable work? The TV does have an analog RGB in, but this won't support high def. Thanks for any help!

An unforeseen twist... I tried hooking up the Mac Mini to a DVI computer monitor, also with no picture. When I hook up my Powerbook to the Toshiba via the DVI->HDMI cable.... Picture! So, looks like my new (refurbed) Mac Mini has a bad digital video output. Seems a little strange though, since the analog video output on it is working fine.
Off to the Mac store tomorrow.
