Numbers document - could not be opened
I have my family budget spreadsheet that I use daily. I only have one copy. I went to open today and it has come up with The document “xxx.numbers” could not be opened. I can preview the document. I can see it as an attachement on my iphone and view it. However it will not open on my iMac. Any suggestions.
Right-click on the file and choose Get Info.
At the bottom of the info window is a section for Permissions.
Ensure you're listed with read and write priveleges.
If not, click the lock icon and provide your password to unlock the section, then change your priveleges to read & write using the dropdown (click on the little arrows in the privelege box).
And you really should have a complete system backup - Hard Drives do fail!

I am getting an error message "Document could not be opened" on the Numbers app - What is the best way to recover the document? Will the folks in the Genius Bar in the local Apple shop be able to help?
First thing to do, assuming that it's named azerty.numbers, rename the doc as azerty.numbers.zip
Double click it.
If it behave the logical way, you will get a new document azerty.numbers of structure package.
With a bit of luck you will be able to open it.
If it doesn't, send the original to my mailbox. I would try to revive it.
Click my blue name to get my address.

"The document could not be opened" type problem
My OSX 10.3.9 or G5 Hardware has recently been saying "The document could not be opened because (file) is in the Trash" The problem is, the file is not in the trash but in a folder on my HD or on the desktop. This problem happens when I double-click the icon for the file to open it (in InDesign), but seems to clear up when I drag the icon to the InDesign program to open it. Same thing happens with Photoshop documents. I've checked and neither of the files are in the Trash.
Look in your harddrive Library folder, for a folder named ScriptingAdditions. Inside of that folder there should be a file called Adobe Unit Types. There is also one for Quark, if you have a copy of Quark.
These files have to be there for you to double click to open these programs. It seems weird, because all of the other programs you can double click and open.
I noticed that these files disappear sometimes during a crash. After reinstalling mine, I made a copy of them, for quicker replacement. -
"The document could not be opened. Bad file handle." Error
Greetings,
I have many operators opening documentation using acrobat reader 8.1.2. When the documents are opened, sometimes a change has to be done to the file. I use computer management to "kick" everyone out of the files, update the .pdf, and then they can re-open the file to see the latest and greatest version. The problem is, if not everyone is out of the file, I sometimes get a ""The document could not be opened. Bad file handle." error, and have to usually wait a period of time before it will let anyone in. I think it has something to do with the windows temp files, but am unsure. It's hard to ensure everyone is out of the document on time, as up to 50 people may be in it at the same time.
Is there perhaps a better way of publishing the new verison of the document?
Thanks for any help you can provide!these two errors below is what I am receiving when do a program integrity scan: common program locations.
I have done a repair on acrobat reader and I do have the two dll files I even put them in reader folder and still receiving the errors.
missing file:"c:\program file\adobe\reader 8.0\reader\acrord32.exe"
"c:\program files\adobe\reader 8.0\reader\acrord32.exe"cannot access a necessary file,"msvcp80.dll

Hi,
I have Created a Crystal Report File in VS2005 not when I open VS2012, gives the following error
Crystal reports ver:10.2.3600.0 references are added in the project.
SAP Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer
C:\Users\SHAKIR~1.JAM\AppData\Local\Temp\{67505EDA-9101-4A10-8927-05811521BF36}.rpt
This document could not be opened.
While VS2005 is still opening this file.
Please help.
Best Regads,
ShakirHi Shakir,
CR 10.2 is not supported in VS 2012. To update to a supported runtime go to this page and download the first link to integrate into the VS IDE:
SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio: Updates & Runtime Downloads
Other links are for redistributing the runtime only, DO NOT install them on your DEV PC.
Only issue is the update wizard may not replace all of the references in the config files so you may have to edit them manually. Or you may have both, replace them with the version 13.x.x.x versions.

Document could not be opened for editing
Hi,
I'm trying to open Office documents from SharePoint 2010 on Google chrome browser and it throws the below error.

The document could not be opened
I was working on a Numbers '08 document that consists of a few sheets. Last saved it an hour or so ago and now it won't open saying "The document "blahblah" could not be opened". Of course, there is no fresh backup as I have just entered a ton of data in the last few hours. There is a log being posted to Console that looks like a few lines in the form of +Numbers[538]: Object (0x3024500 of class __NSDictionary0) named "NSMutableDictionary-0" was already registered with another name "NSMutableDictionary-16".+ followed by +Numbers[538]: Caught the following exception while trying to open blahblah.numbers, * -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: attempt to insert nil+, followed by more lines that look like +Numbers[538]: NameKeyHashSet and ObjectHashMap out of sync: object map entry for __NSDictionary0 0x3024500 references name "NSMutableDictionary-0" instead of "NSMutableDictionary-44"+, and the last line is +Numbers[538]: Failed to open document, but no unrecoverable error+. I tried downloading iWork 09 trial, updated to the latest version in Software Update, same error. The document does display in QuickLook though. Trashed the prefs, restarted, all to no avail. Is there any app that understands the Numbers format that could be used to open/import and reexport the data, or perhaps some tool to fix the affected document? All other Numbers documents I tried open fine.
On a (probably) unrelated note: after updating to Snow Leopard both Pages and Numbers stopped showing anything in the Open Recent submenu. Not sure it might be in any way related.
I'll appreciate any ideas on what to try as I absolutely don't fancy re-typing all that data again into a new document.

Why "of course" ?
When we work seriously, we save seriously and you didn't do that.
Saving seriously means: save every 10 (about) minutes and keep the result of these repeated save task.
No matter whether I work seriously or not, I have a habit of pressing Command-S every 1-2 minutes whenever it's available. I do this automatically and without thinking, ever since I started using Word 6. Used to work for me until today and needless to say, I have never seen documents get corrupted like that, for no obvious reason. If by "seriously" you mean cloning my HD every 10 minutes, then I guess I'm not very serious about saving my progress. Then again, I don't work for NASA.
The minimal scheme is to use only save but activate the preference named "Back up previous version before saving".
I wasn't aware of this option, thanks for pointing it out to me. Hopefully it will work for future incidents like this (although if Numbers is prone to such nasty data-losing bugs perhaps it's time to change the application).
Given what you describe, the index.xml file describing the contents of your document is missing or corrupted.
It's not missing, but obviously corrupted.
You are a lucky guy as you may read the doc thanks to Quicklook.
I guess..
I am able to rebuild a document when the index is corrupted but readable with TextWrangler but I do that only for users working seriously !
I might as well recreate it all from scratch.
Perhaps I should rephrase my questions:
• is this a known situation (a newly introduced bug related to Snow Leopard or something?) and if so perhaps someone may have come up with a way to fix the document?
• or are there any apps that understand enough of the Numbers format that might just import the data from the document without getting stuck on whatever it is that Numbers gets stuck on?
• any other ideas that might actually help? -
Document could not be opened (iba)
I have an iba file created with a prior version of iBook Author. The file size is 344 MB. I just updated to version 2.0 of iBook Author and now I am unable to open the file.
When I attempt to open the file, it displays the progress window and the Open progress bar shows normally. However, before the file is opened, I receive a pop-up message saying "The document {filename} could not be opened." There is no other information provided.
I have the same issue trying to open a prior version of the iba file that was 206 MB as well as the (~) backup file. I have successfully opened smaller files that were created with the older version of iBook Author - the largest being 46 MB.
I really need some advice on recovering the file(s). It represents hundreds of hours of work.
I am running OS 10.7.5.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
JimI had a similar problem the day the updates were issued and I downloaded them.
I contacted Support (surely a misuse of the word) who eventually replied and asked me to email the error codes and the book file.
Is it just me who expects so called support to understand that an eBook using video etc, which THEY insist are bunged in to enhance viewer experience!!! makes a file up to 2 gb and Yahoo for one has a 25 gig per email limit.
Its someting in the index.xml file thats flawed in certain instances.... but if you do not have a spare copy or back up that you can try... your only option is to rebuild the book - or wait till common sense becomes a requirement in Apple script reading support agents. -
"pages document could not be opened" Message
I've been experiencing a problem with Pages lately where the application will not open documents previously created in the same program. When going back to the file at a later date and attempting to open, I get a "pages document 'xxxx.pages' could not be opened" error message with no other information. Trashing preferences and repairing disk permissions does not help. Anybody else experiencing this problem? Any solutions?
There shouldn't be a problem having more than one version of Pages on your Mac. I have both Pages 3.0.2 & 2.0.2. It may be that OS X is set to open all Pages documents with Pages 2. Highlight a known Pages 2 document in the Finder, highlight it & choose Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info box, click the triangle next to "Open With." Click on this drop-down menu & choose Pages 3. If Pages 3 is not a choice, choose "Other" & navigate to the Pages 3 application. Now click the "Change" button under the text that asks if you want to open all documents like this with Pages 3. You can then double-click the Word documents & they will open in Pages 3.

I wanted to view a document with a .flv extention (0.1. Launchpad.flv) on my mac book pro. The following message came up
The document "o.1. Launchpad.flv " could not be opened.
The movie's file format could not be recognised
Is there some additional software is available that will enable quicktime to open the movie?I'd get VLC & try that, although Perian may still work to play within quicktime, but it's no longer being developed.

What Is a ( sample: AVIN0001.INP) document " could not be opened"
What is a ( sample: AVIN0001.INP)document? " finder cannot open files of this type. Should have only ORF & DSC files from hdsc cards and got a whole bunch of files " unreadable" and with this message? The photos all got put into my iPad with no problem but with LR 5 & CS6 I get that message.
I understand that you're trying to playback the videos recorded by a Sony Camera. AVIN0001.BNP, AVIN0001.INP and AVIN0001.INT are Image Management files stored in the AVF_INFO folder of Camera. They're not meant for play back. The recorded videos will be stored in AVCHD or MP_ROOT folder in the Camera. They will have .MPG, .MP4, .MTS or .M2TS file extension.

Hello.
I have been trying to open a Final Cut Pro project but I keep getting this notification (title). The internet does not seem to have any solutions (maybe because of how simple it is).
I have had in on an external hard drive for a while.
I am using FCP 10.0.9
Is there anything I can do?
Thanks,
Jimmy FoxIt sounds like you're trying to open an FCP library. FCP files are never backwards compatible. The library structure was first created in version 10.1, so 10.0.9 will not open it. You'd need to find out which version created the library.

Pages on Lion sync'ed via DropBox - Document could not be opened.
Title says it all. I have a document that I have edited on two systems. It stopped being able to be opened on one of them, fine on the other. Both run Lion. I suspect, it's a versions issue.
Preview etc. work fine.It looks like the install was corrupted.
I deleted iWork, the reinstalled from DVD, and updated to 9.1. All was well... -

I cannot open Pages documents that I have worked on and saved. When I try to reopen Pages documents that I've saved, I get the following
message:
"The document “[name of document]” could not be opened. The file isn’t in the correct format.
The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format."
I have downloaded the latest update to iWork, but that doesn't help.
I use Mac OSX 10.6.7
I am using Pages '09 version 4.0.5 (852)
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
Best regards,
New York Mac UserA few general trouble shooting tips that may apply here:
1. If you used Software Update to do the OS update(s) to reach 10.6.7, go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/ and download and apply the Mac OS v10.6.7 Combo Updater. The Combo Updater contains some fixes that were not included in the incremental updaters used by Software Update.
1a. Check that you have the current version of Pages (and of the other iWork applications) installed. All three applications' current version numbers end in .0.5
2. A common cause of malfunctioning applications is a corrupted preferences file (.plist file). Your Pages '09's plist is at yourname > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iWork.pages.plist
Quit Pages, locate the file and Drag it to the Desktop (or to the Trash).
Restart Pages and attempt to open one of the files.
If all is well, Trash the plist file and empty the Trash.
If there's no change, AND you've made changes to the Preferences that you wish to keep, drag the file back to its previous location, replacing any new one that has been created.

Barry
