Numbers file won't open and says ' "filename" can't be opened'

I use Numbers for all my spreadsheet work and have an issue opening just one file which was last opened 26 Jan 2014. All my other files open ok and I have tried both versions of Numbers incl 3.1. All I get is a quick pop up notice saying ' "filename" can't be opened' There is no explaination and it is odd as I can open all my other Number files. I did have Numbers quite on me unexpectedly when I had this file open so could it be corrupted? This file was stored on iCloud so I could work on it on my iPad as well as my MBA.
Suggestions for a fix or advice would be greatfully received.

Make sure that you are properly signed into iCloud and that Share Documents is enabled.

I'm having difficulty since upgrading to lion- some of my numbers files won't open. I'm running numbers 09 v2.1 and initially had no problems but now when I try and open some saved files I get a popup saying I need a newer version of numbers to open the doccument....but there isn't one?!?
Lion is 10.7.2

For what it's worth, Numbers '09 works without problems under Snow Leopard on my system. You might try detailing your situation in the appropriate iWork forum (there's an area for iWorks '08 and one for iWork '09) and see if someone has suggestions.

I used the invoice template to create an invoice for my wifes business. Printed and saved the file. Now I Get the message "The document “Linda Institute Charges 12_07” could not be opened." every time I try to open it. ANy ideas out there! I rebuilt permissions. Still won't open.

Pages and numbers files won't open in ANY version

Apple, what have you done? I made the sad mistake of upgrading to the newest versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote on the one Mac in our personal and work ecosystem that can run Mavericks. Not only can I not open any existing files in the '09 version of these products once I open them and save in the newest version. Now, I cannot open ANY of these documents in ANY version of these applications. Pleas tell me how to fix this. We have important work and personal files now that we are unable to open at all.
Very disappointed, Apple. These are the sorts of user-experience and quality issues that motivated me to abondon Microsoft...

Well the problem "fixed itself". I logged out, logged in to an other user, opened and saved a few pages files and it worked fine. I logged back out, and back in to the user with the Pages problems, and voila! It works fine - no problems. THis software is far to flaky for me. Unfortunately, my colleague in the last two weeks since upgrading has updraded nearly ALL of our current working Pages files. We now have the very unhappy and uprofitable task of exporting and reverting ALL of those documents so we can revert to Pages 09 - a program that actually iWorks.
Apple, this is really buggy software and it's getting deep-sixed. You've really messed up with this latest set of OS and software "upgrades".

After an automatic HP update, my Microsoft Word and Excel programs won't work and my files won't open. What caused this and what can I do to fix the problem without losing my files? I have files that are part of my work and I HAVE to have them ASAP. Please help.

Please find the steps to resolve your issue.
Open Installed Updates by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then, under Programs and Features, clicking View installed updates.
Click the update that you want to remove, and then click Uninstall. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Or Try this step
If this does not resolve your issue then you can try a System restore to the date where unit was working fine steps provided below for you.
Start in search box type System Restore then click on it then select the Date where unit was working fine.

Cr2 files won't open I have PS CC and the latest CR update available.

I have a Canon Rebel XS, a fairly old camera.
It writes a cr2 file and PS won't open it.
PS shows a link tat says update CR and I have the latest update available.
Running PS CC and have the latest update.
MBP OS 10.9.3 with the latest CR update.
Does anyone have an answer for this prob?

Changed %windir% variable into something else and now most of my administrator files won't open

I have an Alienware 14, Windows 7 . So I changed the variable %windir% into something else and now most of my administrator items won't open. A lot of my files won't open anymore. When I try to open some things, it would say "The system could not find
the environment option that was entered." Help!!!

HELP! Files won't open and previously had Firefox icon instead of DW icons! Leap Year thing?

Hi! I went to update my website, which I do every night before the first day of every month and all the files had a FIrefox icon instead of the usual Dreamweaver one. I have shut down, reinstalled DW MX 2004 but the files still do not open. The icons have now changed to DW but they are not opening with right click, opening from Applications folder, double clicking the file, from get info and open with DW. I am stumped. HELP! Need to update for March 1st.
Is it something to do with Leap Year 29th Feb? Checked the clock in preferences but can't see how this affects it.
Firefox is always updated but the latest version does not seem to be as efficient as previous upgrades. We installed Chrome as well. Do they interfere with each other?

were backed up before the installation, which went fine.

We used Disc Warrior to defrag the hard drive, which did not make a
difference.
We recently started using Chrome, so now have 3 browsers in the dock,
Safari, Firefox and Chrome. Do they interfere in any way with each other?

I am not late with updating the site, which is about New Zealand culture,
month by month (www.englishteacher.co.nz). Probably only the third time I
have been late since 2005. Not a huge amount of traffic, ~300 a month and
free access to content but I would like to solve this problem.
Could a reciprocal link have caused a problem?
At my wits end.

Sounds to me like the file is probably corrupt. If you had hard drive corruption or damage, that could easily result in recovered files not being fully intact. If you were trying to recover accidentally deleted files, it's possible they might have been partially overwritten before recovering. There are never any guarantees with file recovery.
Without more information on the circumstances that led you to try recovery, it's hard to give advice on what to try from here. You could always try another file recovery tool, like Data Rescue 3. Just be sure you're taking appropriate precautions when doing recovery. See Recovering deleted files.

Where are these file saved on network or on your computer?

I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?
I am running Yosemitie on a iMac.

You'll need to include much more information to get a useful answer here: which camera; raw files (assume so, but could be JPEG, TIFF); version of ACR (4.something); computer (Windows, Mac), etc.
Here's a wild guess though - you're using a new (or newish) camera with this older version of PS which (assuming you are trying to open raw files) doesn't support the camera in question. I think you solved my problem! Upon following your advice, I first got a message that I had not allowed a connection to the Tax dept computers, which would prevent the file I need to fill out from being e-filed. I proceeded to then open the file at the top of which was a security banner at which I chose the site as safe. I then filled in the first line of the form which autofilled other lines telling me I was connected with the tax site. In a few days when I have the data I need, I will actually attempt to file the return. If there is a problem, I will send another message. Thanks so much for your assistance!

Indesign CS4 files won't open in CS6

Installed CS6 on new MBP. Moved CS4 design files over to new computer.
Files won't open in CS6. Get the following message:
Cannot open "filename.indd". The file "filename.indd" is damaged (Error code: 4).
This happens with ALL of my CS4 Indesign files. (*Note: they DO open on old MBP)
I tried exporting one as IDML on old machine - same thing.
Any suggestions? I was told all older version files will open in NEW CS versions. True?

The Voodoo is in the basics. - turn it off...turn it on?
I just quit InDesign CS6 and reopened...now all of my files are opening fine in CS6!
@Bob - just to double check - moved files from old mbp - onto external hd - then brought them over to new mbp...is there a better way?

Pages file won't open

One of my pages files won't open. It has been fine, but all of a sudden a message comes up saying the file cannot be opened. There is no information as to whether it has been corrupted or not. When I try to open it in the mac-Microsoft office program it says the file is too large.
Either it is just too large at 669MB and I need to reduce the size? or perhaps it is corrupted. I can open a preview version from its folder, by going to file and 'Quick Look "file name." But I can't copy any of it from there to paste into a new file...
Could someone tell me how to reduce the file size? Or increase the memory of the Pages application? Or some other way of opening it.
And no, I haven't backed it up like a fool.

Thanks for the tip on Activity Monitor, I did not know about that! I have a similar problem, and I hope you can help me. I have a MacBook with 2GB mem and early Intel Chip (see SN provided).
I am writing a book with MANY pictures. They are all .JPGs and are fairly big. I have to keep the book in a single file if I want the Table of Contents (TOC) to work (I think... TOC is quirky). The file is 165.4 MB on disk and loads in Activity Monitor as 173.5 MB. With Preview Open and Safari Open, the system memory report says Free 161MB, Wired 296 MB, Active 1.06GB, Inactive 497.4 MB, Used 1.84 GB, Swap used, 41.8 MB. Pages loads the book slowly and functions okay with major hesitations from time to time; but it does take a VERY long time to save and will freeze with a wheel of death from time to time.
The obvious answer is to divide the book; but that would defeat the TOC advantage I'm enjoying.
Advice?
