Numbers hangs consistently upon adding a trendline.
As the subject says. I'm making a scatter plot, all is well. Nice and easy to make. But, as soon as I add a trendline to it, Numbers freezes, then seemingly corrupts the file, making it hang every time I open it again.
What can I do... besides download Open Office and use that instead?
Well, I figured it out for myself. Permissions did nothing, nor did the preferences file.
However, it turns out Numbers was getting stuck with my trendline because one of the values was a gigantic outlier. Think most values plotting below 1.0, and this one plotting at 140.
Thanks for the help, though. Much appreciated!

Numbers hangs when trying to move rows.
Numbers hangs with the comment 'Preparing to paste....' when I try to move rows. When I click on the screen it goes blank and nothing else happens.
I don't appear to have any formulas or references in the spreadsheet that might 'upset' the program. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
TimHi T19,
Numbers does not handle large tables well.
up to GL in the columns is 194 columns (numbering the columns by adding 1 to the preceding column number, and hiding most columns to make the table fit into a smaller screen shot):
194 columns times 35 rows = 6790 cells.
Is there some way to reorganise your data into several small tables?

Numbers hangs on documents with references to other sheets
When I made the first edit (only) on a Numbers document that has references to other sheets in that document, Numbers hangs for about 2 minutes. (This problem doesn't happen on documents without references.) This has been true for some time and I hoped the newest Numbers version would fix it. But, alas. (Numbers 2.1)
If you change the formula to have a reference to Sheet1, column B will act like column D.I saw an answer that says the sort is practically a
copy.
"Sorting formulas is essentially the same as copying formulas. If a formula goes from row 2 to row 4 and that would be the same as if the formula were copied from row 2 to row 4 then there is not problem with the formulas. if copying the formulas would result
in different results the sort would not work as desired."
Although, when investigating this solution manually, a problem manifested in Column E. But I think as far as the actual Excel behavior, this (copy) is a better explanation than the cell being cut.
I speculate that the programers made Excel short-circuit (i.e. not move) when the formula is specified as a local cell.
I don't see an answer, but
this documentation alludes to differing behavior based on formula results:
"Check to see if the values returned by a formula have changed If the data that you have sorted contains one or more formulas, the return values of those formulas might change when the worksheet is recalculated. In
this case, make sure that you reapply the sort to get up-to-date results."
It looks like you're keen to the behavior, so now you should be more proficient to use the types of references for differing situations. -
Numbers hangs / does not respond with Lion OS 10.7
I have the latest version of Numbers but it does not work with Lion OS X: Numbers hangs / stop responding on opening existing files or creating new files. When I run Numbers "Template chooser" appears, I chose an existing file, then the program reports "Progress... Opening..." and hangs. Your help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
(1) If you are annoyed by the alternate account you may remove it but it may be useful if you have other questions about an odd behavior.
(2) Now, it's clear that the problem is in the main set of files, those shared by every accounts.
I'm not really at ease because I'm not sure of the way apps bought thru the MAS are installed on the HD.
I will ask you to apply two tasks :
(a) run the application "FontBook" (from Applications) and ask it to scan the system in search of corrupted fonts as well as duplicate ones.
(b) Go to : http://www.titanium.free.fr/
and download the free Onyx dedicated to Lion (I know, it's a beta version)
Run it to :
check/repair permissions
clean most of the caches used on the machine.
With a bit of luck, you will get a normal behavior.
May you also, for my own information, tell me :
(I) if there is such a folder (Frameworks) on your machine :
On yours, I guess that "Bibliothèque" is spelled "Library"
(II) if Numbers is stored in the folder "Applications" or in a folder "Applications:iWork '09"

Can I add trend line for my charts in Numbers for iPad?
If you notice in my first response... the top screenshot shows a plot with a trend line that shows the equation. I used the slope and offset in the formula that extend the "prediction"
you could use the forecast() or linest() function to create this prediction with out the trend line.
Here is another example:
I entered actual (but made up) data in columns A and B
then I calculate the slope and intercept of that data in column F
F3=INDEX(LINEST(B2:B6,A2:A6,TRUE,TRUE), 1)
F4=INDEX(LINEST(B2:B6,A2:A6,TRUE,TRUE), 2)
now in columns C and D I enter X values and calculate predicted Y values using the slope and intercepts:
D2=$F$3×C2+$F$4
select D2 and fill down as needed -
Error Message upon adding media Adobe Premiere Elements 12
. The program opens and I'm able to add media to a new project. Once I move the clip to the timeline I get the error message "Adobe Premiere 12 Has Stopped Working". I check the update on the video driver and it is current. This problem happen after I have been using the program successfully to two hours.
mattrayl
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Have you updated 12 to 12.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update?
If not, please do so.
You wrote
Once I move the clip to the timeline I get the error message
What are the properties of the clip that you mention? If you added the clip to the project first, does the problem occur?
The above are the initial questions that come to mind.
Looking at this further....
Since you wrote
This problem happen after I have been using the program successfully to two hours.
Let us start with how much content (including source media, effects, titles, and transitions) you have on the Timeline at this 2 hour mark when the program stops working? Is there a consistent pattern of what you are doing in the program when this happens? Are you multitasking and running Premiere Elements?
Can you reopen this project? And, if so, how long can you work with it before the program shuts down again?
What is your project preset and the properties of your source media for the project?
Does the problem exist with all your projects or just this one?
We will be watching for answers to these preliminary questions and then we will plan our troubleshooting strategy according to your details.
Thanks.

Numbers missing reference after adding rows
Hi,
I came into a strange situation (which I did not have before).
I have a sheet summary contaning formulas that uses cells from a different sheet. The source sheet contains more than 100 rows containing different numbers which are used in more than 50 formulas in the summary sheet.
When adding rows inbetween the existing data sheet rows, I see that the summary sheet furmulas, in some cases, do not reference to the correct row number (they all should shift to the new row number) any more (out of 50 references only four got currapted).
Any ideas are appriciated (is this a known bug).
Thanks,
ZivZiv,
First, I want to thank you for asking a question that got me thinking about something I hadn't really considered before.
I am not entirely sure I understand your question or the test you proposed in the second post, but if I am reading it correctly, what you are expecting is the way Numbers is designed to work (and the way I have seen it work) and when I try the test from your second post I get the results I expect.
That is, a cell reference points to a cell, not a location; if you move that cell (for example, by adding a row above it, which moves it down one row) the reference in the formula is updated to reflect the new location, but the result of the calculation doesn't change.
But this got me wondering about how Numbers dealt with references to ranges of cells. For example, the formula =SUM(C3:C6) is equivalent to =SUM(C3, C4, C5, C6), but what happens when you add a row after row 4? Apparently, the second expression remains a sum of the values in four cells, but the values of C5 and C6 are changed to reflect the fact that they have moved to C6 and C7. However, in the first expression, the new cell is added to the range, so that it is now the sum of five values. Actually, if you add a row (or column) to one that passes through a range, in the middle, or on the outside, the formula updates to add the new cell to the range, even if you are adding cells immediately below the bottom row in the range (so none of the cells in the original range actually move).
I'm not sure any of this has much to do with your problem, unless possibly one (or four) of your expressions is referring to a range that happens to be one cell, which would update differently from one referencing a simple cell. As Jerry has said, it's pretty hard to know anything without knowing what expressions your formulas are using.
At any rate, thanks for making me think about something I hadn't explored before. -
Can iOS Numbers copy formulas when adding new rows?
iOS Numbers table add row is not copying previous cell formulas. Is this supported or not?
I have a table with lots of columns and all of them have formulas. When I click at the lower left of the table to add a row, none of the new cells have the formulas. I have to manually go through every column and copy the formulas to the new row.
This is not very practical if you're planning to use Numbers on the go with an iPad. In my case, I have to quickly get a new row ready as needed. I was hoping there is a preference setting somewhere like "copy formulas when adding new row".I had the same issue with the added twist that I wanted to reference the created cells in formulas in other sheets. This is what works for me:
I use a form to enter data. The referenced sheet is set up like this:
1 Name Date ServPayment SalesPayment Total
2 Week1 =sum (ServPayment,SalesPayment)
3 =sum (ServPayment,SalesPayment)
4 TotWeek1 =sum (Total2,Total3)
"Total" sums the 2 Payments, TotWeek1 sums the totals.
In the entry form I never add data to the empty line. In this example, I would start at "Week1" and tap the "+" to add a new form. This creates the line in the referenced sheet with my formulas. As I continue, I always start at the last entry I have made and tap "+".
When I create a line that does not have the formula on either side, I do not get the formula.
Hope this helps. -
Mail is Not Responding upon adding ToDo item...
+ToDo integration in Mail: I didn't really use this feature in Mail before although have heard about it.+
The problem is that *Mail application hangs for no obvious reason once I try to add new ToDo item*. Cursor becomes a spinning wheel and nothing happens. It takes forever unless application is forced to quit.
Here some more details: iCal had google calendar (which I didn't even setup) since I am a GMail user (I guess it was created by Mail on a first day of Leopard installation) besides my local calendars. So, Mail application was attempting to add items there with no luck. It may had caused problem and Google Calendar was removed today by me from iCal for that reason. Problem remains open. Literally nothing changed.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Does anyone know how to resolve it?Mail is really odd application (at least in case of ToDo items add).
1. New ToDo item is added into calendar specified in options ("On MyMac" or "on server") in case it is created with push onto "New ToDo" button without any server selected (aka non of emails is previewed|selected currently).
2. New ToDo is added into calendar that corresponds to current server in case mail is selected.
+Here is an Example:+
Problem: +GMail account is setup. Have an email from friend that asks to view some link. Want to do a ToDo item that would remind me about link in one or two days.+
_Solution A_: +select link inside mail and press ToDo. New event will be automatically added into corresponding GMail Calendar in iCal (Mail client is supposed to create calendar in iCal if one does not exist).+ BAAD
_Solution B_: +Select link and copy into clipboard. Unselect any mail (say, go to inbox folder without any server picked, or RSS - use any mean of doing that). Click ToDo button and create event. It will be added to whatever is specified in Preferences (say "On MyMac").+ GOOOOD -
Numbers Not Responding When Adding New Sheet
As you may have surmised from the title, Numbers is crashing every time I (attempt to) add a new sheet. This is only happening on one of my computers; the others seem OK.
I got this version via the App Store and was wondering whether it'll be OK to delete my version and re-install.
Thanks in advance for advice...Hi Adam,
I wouldn't surmise that at all from your subject line—crashing is, after all, a response.
While reinstalling might solve the issue, I doubt that it is a necessary step. Does Numbers exhibit the same response if you open it (on the same computer) using a different User Account?
If not, then the most likely culprit is a corrupted preferences file.
In the Finder (and logged on with the account where the issue exists), press and hold the option key, go to the Go menu, and choose Library.
In Library, open Preferences, and locate the file com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
Drag this file to the desktop (or the Trash), the relaunch Numbers and try adding a sheet to a Numbers document.
If successful, trash the old preferences file and carry on.

I have found that Numbers inevitably causes my machine to hang with the spinning beachball of doom. This is true whether I have loaded an excel spreadsheet or just generated my own. It's happened while I typed (just now) and also I believe when NUmbers is in the background.
Anybody else seen this? Is there a clue?Hi dvhwgumby,
Welcome to Numbers discussions.
The following text is what I wrote to another person just the other day:
Please notice the difference between your computer and my two. I have run Numbers on both. Yes on the old circa 2000 laptop it doesn't run too fast however, according to your post faster than your blazing computer. On the 1 GHz iMac Numbers runs just as good as Excel 2004, that's very well actually.
My suggestions to you are, if you haven't already done it, do some system maintenance:
1. Run permissions from the install DVD not from the OS.
2. Be sure all applications are closed then clear your cache files, a program such as YASU (free) or Onyx (again free) could be used. Or from Home > Library > Cache, delete all the files in that folder. They're cache files so nothing to be concerned about.
3. Numbers is closed then remove the Numbers PLIST file: Home > Library > Preferences, com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist. When you launch Numbers another PLIST file will be created.
4. Are you running Numbers 1.02?
End of that post.
In addition:
Being as you're new to Numbers discussions, your second post, please accept my suggestion to do the following:
Click on the Search feature to the upper right of Discussions. Many questions have been asked, their answers will provide direct solutions, tips, or workarounds. Your question has been asked as well.
Open Numbers then click Help > Numbers User Guide, it contains much useful information.
After doing all that if you cannot find your question or an appropriate answer to your question then by all means ask your question. Truly we'll be pleased to assist you.
These Discussions are user helping user, not Apple employees answering the question. Questions will be answered when a user such as yourself finds time, desires to, knows the answer and is willing to respond.
Again, welcome to Discussions, have fun here.
Sincerely,
RicD -
My phone (4s) is somehow adding all my email and physical mail address book contacts to my contacts in my phone, which I prefer to keep to telephone numbers only. How do I get all this stuff out of my telephone book and back to normal?
If renaming addressbook.data.previous to addressbook.data hasn't brought back your contacts, get rid of addressbook.data (drag it way or delete it) and rename addressbook.data.beforesave to addressbook.data
The rename process works for some people and not for others; I suspect it has to do with how soon after the problem they have tried it.
No, I didn't take your reply as being rude.
I don't know of any way of recovering anything from the skindexinverted file, and anyway I suspect it is litterally an index, and does not hold the full data. Certainly on my machine it is only 1/20th of the size of the data file.

User stackThank you for responding, but it didn't solve for it. It still hangs before it's useable. Now that I don't have other pages open it doesn't hang as long, but still is not opening like it used to.
I am reposting my error report in the format it appears in the window.
