Numbers -How do I import large spreadsheets?

I will have a csv/Excel spreadsheet with up to 13,000 names and 5-6 fields per name .
I Have IPad 4  65gb and an Imac 27 with osx 10.8. 5
Do I pick out a set template out of the  16 they ofer of will it arrive from IMac on its own?

I completely understand. But Numbers is one of those apps where some people have had tranfer problems. Nothing is perfect. Have you tried to use numbers on your current spreadsheet issue?
The advantage of Jump is that you can keep everything on your computer, transfer it exactly, work on it where changes will be reflected on your imac, desktop if you are at an employer, etc. And you shouldn't have to go through the layout, fonts, and checking through about 13,000 names and the content of all the fields. It was on sale over Labor Day weekend for $14.99 and I forgot to tell my son about it. He's in college, in finance, and it would be very helpful to him. He has and likes Splashtop, but without a cellular ipad he has to be in a wireless zone for it to work. So it's okay on campus or at home, but if not, cannot connect through cellular.
If you need it for work, maybe your company will pay for it. I just checked at jumpdesktop.com and there is a free two week trial.
See if the Numbers app gives you what you need, then try the Jump trial. If Numbers works, then you'll save the $29.99. However, if you're away from home and have a spreadsheet, at home, you annot access it to make changes (though you or someone could email it to you and you could then open it in the Numbers app and save the cost of Jump.)
Whatever you decide, I hope it makes your work easier to acccess and work with.
Hope this helps.

  • How do I import excel spreadsheet to Ipad 2 [numbers] from my PC? can i use itunes?

Hi I'm a recent convert. I have a spreadsheet that I made in excel and want to use it on my new Ipad 2. I think I could email it to myself and open it as an attachment but I'm hoping that maybe I could import it through the Itunes that is on my PC.
    Thank you in advance
    RWR

You also need an app to edit it on the iPad ... many of these apps (Documents2Go, etc) have their own tools to allow you to transfter a document from PC to iPad. Other possibilities to look at are Goodreader (a PDF reader that is also a file management app) and cloud storage (Dropbox, Sugarsync).

  • 1) How do I restore a spreadsheet that says "Spreadsheet couldn't be imported. An error occurred." & 2) How do I prevent this from happening?

Several times on my iPad, I have been getting the following message when trying to open a Numbers spreadsheet that I've been working on:
"Spreadsheet couldn't be imported. An error occurred."
The icon had already turned into a generic Numbers icon at that point in time, and the iPad doesn't allow me to email this file. I would then try to recover it on my iPhone, but Numbers/iCloud had already automatically deleted it. I've tried resetting my iPhone & iPad and restoring the previous day's data, but my hard-earned work was still gone!
This was a fairly large spreadsheet that I would make changes to multiple times throughout the day with either my iPhone 5 or 3rd Gen iPad. They are both updated with iOS 6.1.2 and Numbers 1.7.2, and both have iCloud turned on for syncing Numbers documents. I travel and work throughout the city on a daily basis, so I get a mixture of connection speed from LTE, 4g, wifi, to none.
I've made it a habit to make additional copies of my spreadsheets each week, and now I'm resorting to making additional copies at the end of each day. Sooner or later if this keeps happening, I may have to make annoying copies of the file every time I make a minor edit. This isn't how iCloud or anything from Apple is suppose to work. Please help out with this problem.
    Thank you in advance.

    Thanks den.thed,
Apologies for not replying back sooner - I've been away.
Although your suggestion helped me in getting a copy of Lion that I could use, it didn't help with the restore from Time Capsule issue.  I had to download the Lion app onto my MacBook & then transfer it across but it wouldn't let me upgrade my OS for some reason, so I ended up wiping the iMac completely and restoring via my Snow Leopard install disk.  For some reason, this time, it let me have the option of using Setup Assistant to access the Time Capsule for a complete restore.
Now, over a week later, with various bits of tweaking and reinstalling some apps that didn't seem to come across, I have my system back.
    Thanks for the help anyway.
    Cheers,
    Paul

I bought Numbers because my Excel files would not work with Mavericks. How can I import a non-functioning Excel file into numbers? (As of now, the file NAME transfers but data does not.)

    HI Dave,
I'm surprised you get no message when you attempt opening the Excel document in Numbers.
I'm assuming Numbers 3.1, since you are running Mavericks.
Does the Numbers file that opens show any content?
    Does it contain a table?
    How large?
Does it contain more than one tab (indicating more than one sheet)?
Do those other tabs contain a table?
Have you checked those tables for data content?
There have been cases in the past of imported documents opening with white text on a white background, giving the appearance of containing nothing. Check for this by selecting a block of cells, then applying a Fill colour or a Text colour using the Format button (paintbrush).
I'd also suggest attempting to open the Excel files using LibreOffice, which can be downloaded from the linked website.

    Barry

  • How can I import a pdf file into numbers so it will open with a click

How can I import a pdf file into a spreadsheet so that it will open with a click?

You can link to a webpage or an email in Numbers-- that's it.
The best way I found to do this is to enable websharing on your machine (see this article if you are running 10.8: http://lowendmac.com/crews/12lc/web-sharing-mountain-lion.html)
You can then place your pdf files in the folder /Users/<your user name>/Sites/<somefolder>
Then link to this using the url  "<your machine name>.local/~<your user name>/<somefolder>/<pdf Name>
My machines name is "Proton" (you can get this from the System Preferences > Sharing pane)
    My user name is "wayne"
so I stored a pdf file (DM00027543.pdf) in the folder "/User/wayne/Sites/PDFTest"
and stored the URL "http://proton.local/~wayne/PDFTest/DM00027543.pdf" in the "URL" field of the Hyperlink inspector

  • How do I convert an excel (2008) document to Numbers?  When I drag the Excel document onto the Numbers icon I get, "Import error.  The file format is invalid"

How can I convert an Excel (2008) document to Numbers.  When I drag the Excel document onto the Numbers icon I get, "Import error.  The file format is invalid.

That extension identifies the most current Excel file format, a format that can be opened by Numbers '09 (and by Numbers '08).
A check with Numbers '09 shows it capable of opening .xlsx files when right-clicked (and Numbers chose as the application to open, when double-clicked (if Numbers has been set as the default application to open this type of file, or when dragged to the Numbers icon in the dock.
I see two possibilities for Numbers inability to open it and the message you receive:
    1. The file is not actually an Excel file, and the sender has added the .xlsx extension to the filename manually.
    2. The file is an Excel file, but has somehow been corrupted.
Have you tried opening the file with a different application? The open source Office suites, OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice and NeoOffice can also open .xlsx files. If they're unable to open this one, that would point toward the file itself being faulty. You can download these applications from their rspective websites, linked in the names above. All request a donation to support future development, but only Neo requires one to have been made recently, and that only for the current release (which won't be necessary to open .xlsx files).

  • New "Photos" is a piece of JUNK!  How do I get my image numbers to display as imported like they used to? Can no longer make Events or view old events as before either.

How do I get my image numbers to display as imported like they used to? Can no longer make Events or view old events as before either.
If this is replacing Aperture and previous iPhoto it is USELESS...WAY fewer options for editing available. New "Photos" is a piece of JUNK!

    Hi.
I have just migrated my library from Aperture to photos. All seems to have gone smoothly, except for one thing. All of my photos are 'untitled', whereas in both Aperture, and previously iPhoto, the filename was used for the title. If I hit CMD+I and get info, the title is still there as the filename, as I use the filename for all titles.
Is there a way to batch copy all filenames as photo titles, this was done automatically in Aperture and iPhoto, as when photos were imported the filename was used automatically.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

In the Photos.app you can select all photos in a "Moment" at once, by pressing "Select" to the right of the "Moment" name. Then press the Trash icon.

  • My ipad just lost numbers spreadsheets. Sheets that opened on 12/31, now all missing. How do I recover. Spreadsheets still exist on iPhones and other family ipad

On 12/31, my iPad lost my spreadsheets for Numbers. I use about 6 spreadsheets to keep track of my info. Up til that day the spreadsheets worked perfectly.
Now Numbers opens with no spreadsheets.
Not sure what's going on, since the spreadsheets are still available on my iPhones and other iPad.
How can I get the spreadsheets back on my iPad?

HOW AND WHEN CAN I DISPUTE CHARGES?
If you're a Postpay customer, you can dispute your bill within 180 days of receiving it, but unless otherwise provided by law or unless you're disputing charges because your wireless device was lost or stolen, you still have to pay all charges until the dispute is resolved. If you're a Prepaid customer, you can dispute a charge within 180 days of the date the disputed charge was incurred. YOU MAY CALL US TO DISPUTE CHARGES ON YOUR BILL OR ANY SERVICE(S) FOR WHICH YOU WERE BILLED, BUT IF YOU WISH TO PRESERVE YOUR RIGHT TO BRING AN ARBITRATION OR SMALL CLAIMS CASE REGARDING SUCH DISPUTE, YOU MUST WRITE TO US AT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE ADDRESS ON YOUR BILL, OR SEND US A COMPLETED NOTICE OF DISPUTE FORM (AVAILABLE AT VERIZONWIRELESS.COM), WITHIN THE 180–DAY PERIOD MENTIONED ABOVE. • How can I import diagramms and tables from numbers to pages?

I'm writing an essay, where I need diagramms and tables in it. I created some cool stuff in numbers and wanted to transfer it to pages. I thought it would be easier, but I don't have a clue how to just import the numbers stuff to my essay in pages. So I tried to copy it, but it looks not that way it looked in numbers. Another problem is: I can't layout the diagramms and tables the way I want (centered) and I need to write a description under it. I tried it with Textbox, but then I just can't group the textbox with the Table.
    Somebody with an idea?
    Thanks for your help!

To get your data from Numbers into Pages is just a simple matter of copying and pasting. Select the cells you want to place in Pages, copy, and then past into Pages. There are a couple caveats. 1) the table you paste into Pages will be pasted inline. You'll probably want to use the wrap Inspector and change it to floating. 2) if the table is too wide you'll have to get creative about how you arrange the data and 3) Numbers lets you insert check boxes, sliders, steppers, and popup menus and these won't show but the data in the cells will.
The charts will also copy and paste - again, you'll probably want to use the wrap inspector to switch them to floating objects. Having made the chart object(s) floating objects, you should have no trouble inserting your text box description, arranging them the way you want, and then grouping.
Just to make sure it worked the way I remembered, I just threw together a quick table and chart in Numbers and then copy/pasted it all into Pages.

  • How can I import vcard info into numbers 3.0?

How can I import vcard info into the new numbers 3.0?
To the old numbers, it is easy ;-)

If you're trying to bring in information from Contacts, another user (I'll try to find the link) posted a "hidden solution".  In Contacts select as many contacts as you want, command-c to copy, then in a Numbers sheet command-v to paste. A table is formed automatically.

Found it. ronniefromcalifornia in this thread.

  • How to resume import of large file in iTunes after breakdown ?

iTunes crashed, with a damaged library. I messed around with the previous libraries, import of xml etc, and ended up with my music folder splitted in two folders. One is about 192 GB, the other 165 GB.
Songs from a same album are lister over the two folders. So moving the artist folder together, wouldn't work, as they would override eachother.
I tried to set up a new iTunes library, and import everything to consolidate. The process was stopped often by error -50, but after hitting enter, continued. Until suddently the process stopped. I'm about the letter N of my collection.
On top of all, the music doens't appear in iTunes. I have the .xml file, .itl-file but no library itself.
    Questions:
How to best consolidate large files in iTunes, as the process seems to crash in between ?
How to resume after crash ? If you point to the same folder, it will double the ones already imported, right ?
How come the library file wasn't created ?

Do I understand correctly that you logged on to the portal with your browser and then tried uploading your data by using curl? In this case, you are authenticated in your browser session - but not in curl's.
    > 2) Secondly, the portal denies my URL call from the

Well, indeed SAP portal is not compatible with curl, it's not on the PAM (sorry, couldn't resist).
Anyway: Have you tried using the portal GUI for batch uploading data (check import/export in role "user administration)?
Alternatively you might consider filling the user store directly (instead of using the portal / UME)? Where is your user and group information physically stored?
