Numbers on LION

I can't download numbers in the app store on my mac 10.7 lion, as its to old apparently.  Is there other versions of numbers available, or what do i do?  I need numbers

The older version came on install DVDs as part of iWorks - if you have/had that, simply reinstall it (if it is a recent version). If not, you will need to buy the new standalone version at the app store. Or did you mean that your Mac is too old? What model/year is it?

  • How to save as an older version in numbers for lion

my mom just got a new macbook air. we are sharing files on dropbox and everytime she opens a numbers file it does an autosave and then i can't read it because i have numbers '08. is there no way to back save to an older version of numbers in lion? sure, i get that i'll need to upgrade at some point but i'd at least like access to the files she's opned and maybe need to stop sharing them with her for a while until i upgrade my software. i tried walking her through the traditional save as process and we almost made each other mad because she wasn't seeing what i expected her to see in numbers' pull-down menu.

  • Numbers In Lion Problem

Just upgraded to Lion. Two problems have begun. 1) When I open a Numbers file, an earlier, unrelated, file also opens. This is annoying. How do I stop that action? 2) I tried to "Save As" a file with a new name in a different location, but no longer seem to be able to do that. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Arnie

    (1) Let us time to discover the true behavior of the beast.
In fact, when you create a document from a template, press immediately cmd + S and you will get the well known Save As… dialog.
    (2) The files which open when you re-open the app are those which were open when you closed it.
Close the files before leaving the app, they will not open at next launch.
Run this script to disable the save_application_state feature :
    --{code}
set Saved_Application_State to (path to library folder from user domain as text) & "Saved Application State:"
set maybe to choose folder with prompt "Choose the folder linked to the application which you want to 'lock'" default location (Saved_Application_State as alias) without invisible
    tell application "System Events"
every disk item of folder (maybe as text)
    end tell
    tell application "Finder"
set locked of maybe to true
    end tell
    --{code}
You will be asked to select a folder in such a list :
    com.apple.finder.savedState
    com.apple.installer.savedState
    com.apple.mail.savedState
    com.apple.Safari.savedState
    com.apple.Pages.Numbers.savedState
    com.apple.Pages.Pages.savedState
    com.apple.ScriptEditor2.savedState
    com.apple.systempreferences.savedState
    net.nightproductions.prefSetter.savedState
I guess that you will identify the correct one.
The, the script will empty this folder and lock it.
The application state will no longer be saved (until you unlock the folder)
I will post later a script allowing all of us to disable /enable the feature.

  • Using Numbers with Lion and iOS

    Hi,
I'm interested in using Numbers to share and update documents across my Apple devices (iMac, Macbook Pro, iPhone and iPad) via iCloud.
I have Numbers 09 installed on my iMac and Macbook.
I get that I will need to install Numbers on my iPhone and iPad.
    My questions are the following:
Do I need to update my Numbers to the '11 version in order to share any documents generated on my iMac/Macbook via iCloud?
If so, do I need to purchase separate copies of Numbers for the Lion machines and for the iOS machines, or will the same copy of the software be usable among the four machines?
    Thanks!

    V.G.,
The iOS and OSX versions are sold separately. There is no '11 version of iWork, if that's what you are asking about. iWork '09 is the most recent, but there have been many free updates along the way.
A single iOS purchase will be good for all your iOS devices. For OSX, if you used the MacAppStore, you purchase only once for all computers on your account. If you purchased from the Apple store onlne or from a retailer, it's a single user license or a family license, so you that would determine if one copy would be enough.

  • Mountain Lion upgrade and Numbers, Mountain Lion upgrade and Numbers

I have upgraded both Mountain Lion and Numbers for Mac and iPhone but now when I try to open a file from either an error message comes up saying "The index.xml file is missing." and it wont open.
Please help, this is a very important spreadsheet!!!
    Thank you
    Karen

iWork '09 installed from the retail disk or from the downloaded trial must be updated through Software Update. In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have that needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
You can try the standalone updater found on this page.

  • Pages spelling defective Numbered List Lion

When I create a new blank document in Pages, the spell check works normally, placing red underlines on misspelled words. However, when I create a numbered list within that document, suddenly the spell check disappears, letting me spell words incorrectly with nary a red underline in sight. I hope this is a bug, and not a feature. Can anyone else re-create this?

Yes and No. I suspect Mac OSX and Windows do not flag the text's language the same way, so you have to tell it what it is, though it would be nice to have it take the System language by default.
If you had used Paste and Match Style that would have probably stuck with English as the language.

  • Numbers and Lion Autosave

One of the reasons I use spreadsheet software is to play around with "what-if" scenarios. For example, changing a number in one cell, and see what the effect is.
What used to happen is that I would simply close my spreadsheet when I was done playing, and the next time I opened it, it was back to the way I had last saved it. Now it seems to be saving all of my "what-ifs" that I have done, even though I did not explicitly choose to save.
Having a spreadsheet auto-save defeats the purpose of using a spreadsheet! I suspect I could make a copy of my file and work with a copy, but I didn't used to have to do that. I suppose I could also lock the file, but what if I like my changes, and want to update the original file? Why do I now have to go through these workarounds to make my spreadsheets work like they used to? Things were working as they should. Now I have no choice in this behavior, unless I remember to "undo" all my edits.
This may be good for a wordprocessing or graphics package, but not for a spreadsheet. So I guess my question is, how do I turn this unwanted "feature" OFF?
    Thank you

Yes, it takes extra steps in Lion to do this. It irks me too. I make a duplicate then do the what-if stuff with it.  I hadn't considered the angle of  "what if I want to save my changes if I like them", which would not save over the original.
No turning it off, at least not in this version of Lion

  • ICloud with Numbers and Pages on Lion

I have two computers: an old one with the latest Lion and a new one with the latest Mountain Lion.   I have Numbers09 and Pages09 on both computers, bought long ago on disk. Exactly the same copy, copied from old to new computer.   I don't remember when I got the last update, it was also long ago.  Point is since they did not come from the app store, they did get not automatic updates to keep up with the cloud.  Apple orphaned them long ago.
Now, both Pages and Numbers on the new computer can access iCloud, save docs to the cloud and move docs in and out (although if the new iWorks - iCloud or iOS version touches them, I can no longer open the docs, but that's something else).
On the other hand, Pages and Numbers on Lion cannot access iCloud. There is no iCloud tab like on Pages/Numbers on ML.  Cloud is on, and Docs and Data checked.  It also warns me the local version of cloud docs will be deleted when I uncheck the box.  Cloud on Lion works fine otherwise: bookmarks, contacts, calendar.
My question is: Is this expected or not? If not, how to fix it.
    Thanks in advance

Never mind, now I see quite  a few threads.  It seems Apple disabled ~/Libray/Mobile Documents on Lion...

  • How do I save data in a numbers spreadsheet? I am trying to convert from Excel and can't find the save button!

I am new to Imac and numbers and am currently working on my first spreadsheet but must be thick as I cannot find the save icon!

As you are no longer in M…oSoft world, you have to change your habits.
In AppleLand, there is no Save icon/button.
We have menu items or/and shortcuts.
If you imported an Excel document in Numbers under Lion, you may use :
    File > Save…
    or
    File > Export…
    or
    Share > Export…
These three commands allow you to export as an Excel file.
If you want to save as a Numbers one, only
    File > Save… will apply.
It would be useful to download and read
    Numbers User Guide
    and
iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide.

  • How do I exit a spreadsheet without saving?

I've made a few changes to a spreadsheet in Numbers and don't like what I've done!
In Excel I'd close it without saving. How do I do this in Numbers?

Lion changed how this works and I am assuming you are using Lion or you wouldn't have this question. If you are using OS X Lion, you will need to go to File/Revert Document and choose Last Opened Version. It will revert back to how it was when you opened it. Now close it.

  • Is there a way to darken the dates (numbers) on ical. After installing Lion I can barely read the dates of the month in ICal

Is there a way to darken the dates (numbers) on the ICal calender. I can barely read mine after installing Lion.

I should note that the time stays on the left of the event name when I re-enter the text (which I had to do all the time before I found the "show event times" button) so I feel like there's a way.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot open my File Maker Pro files. Can I use Numbers to open these files?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot open my File Maker Pro files. Can I use Numbers to open these files?

Numbers is a spreadsheet program and FileMaker is a database program, so you probably can't use Numbers to open them unless you had first exported them from FileMaker in a spreadsheet-compatible format.
If you upgraded from 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier and your old copy of FileMaker won't open anymore, it might be a PowerPC application that is not compatible with 10.7 and later. If that is the case, to work with your FileMaker files you should upgrade your copy of FileMaker to the latest version, which seems to be FileMaker 12.

Numbers does not open with the main user after installing mountain lion. It works flawlessly when I use the second account on my mac. What got corrupted in the admin-account, something in the user-library? How can I fix it? I´m kinda desperate... (the same happens with the other iWork-Apps!)
Looking forward to hearing from somebody with a littlemore expertise than me, Chris

you can remove preferences files by navigating to the Preferences folder for your user as follows:
    0) Quit ALL iWork apps (Keynote, Pages and Numbers)
    1) from the Finder select the menu item "Go > Go To Folder…".  This will bring up a dialog:
    2) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences" (no double quotes)
    3) find the files:
    com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and move these to the trash.  I would NOT empty until later.
    4) restart Numbers

  • How do I apply multi-numbered lists in Notes app on iPad without a Tab key? E.g. I can do 1.a.i in Notes on Mountain Lion but not on iPad. The numbering style does not sync properly.

This is what it looks like in Mountain Lion
This is what it looks like on my iPad/iPhone. It has lost the number formattion.
How do I tab on an iPad to get the multi-level numbers anyway??

iWork '09 is not "outdated" it still works and works extremely well and whilst not perfect with MsWord it is far far better than Pages 5.2 which has a stream of major issues with exporting. It is also way better and faster to use than Microsoft Office.
So what is your time and work actually worth? If it is less than $19.99 for 6 months, you may as well just chuck it in and take that job on minimum wages.
You are assuming things for Office 2014 with absolutely no inside knowledge. Much as we assumed Pages 5 was going to be the long awaited improvement, but ended up being a downgrade to match the iOS version, Microsoft is headed the same way with their mobile versions.
This is not like getting the "latest" pair of pants where you go with the crowd and throw out your cigarette legs which replaced the flares, which replaced your low cuts which replaced your cigarette legs, which replaced…
    This is work.
If it does the job and does it well, use it. There is nothing out there to really match what Pages '09 does. Yet.
LibreOffice can do most but not all, but has a UI that only a mother could love. It's great redemption is that it uses both open formats and the standard Microsoft formats and is under active development. It also opens and saves to just about everything. When they finally work out the Pages formats, I'm sure they will open those as well.
I use a lot of professional software. Just because the publisher's marketing department says change the product so we can sell more, doesn't mean you have to pay any attention whatsoever. Adobe being a classical example. Most designers are just ignoring their latest subscription based bloatware and getting on with their work.
