Numbers seems to have broken

I was using Numbers this morning -- no major problem except that it didn't properly recover from page view (leaving junk on the right of the table).
This afternoon it seems to have broken. ALL my files, including the one from this morning have mostly blank cells. The contents seem to be there - if I click a cell the contents show up in the formula bar (or whatever it's called). And if I double-click to edit the contents reappear. But then go away again as soon as I finish with the cell.
Some (but not all) of the header cells in Gray Headers style show up, and some are simply a pair of faint white squares at the end of the text string. Check boxes show up OK.
Oh, and if I double click on a date it shows up for editing with the year as 00002010.
This is very distressing. I have a lot of data locked up in Numbers and as of now, all is unusable.
What's going on?

Thanks for the help. Actually I should have mentioned that I tried that (I've been using Macs since my Mac IIfx in 1990 so I picked up a few tricks) as well as restarting. The problem remains.
In the meantime I've tried opening my files (remotely) with another machine. No problems. It's local.
Next I'll try reinstalling Numbers, if I can find the disks

  • Update seems to have broken openbox theming.

I updated about 2 hours ago and it seems to have broken a lot of my window manager.
I use openbox as a standalone window manager and have had no issues so far.
I update every few days and today caused the resizing-freeze issue, so I downgraded the suggested packages which fixed that.
However I have another issue with theming.
Programs such as firefox, thunderbird, thunar etc... all have the correct theme. However I use some gnome programs such as rhythmbox and nautilus and neither of these are themeing correctly as well as terminator and all appear to have the default gnome theme.
I use obconf and lxappearence for themeing normally, however these seem to have no effect.
I've done a fair amount of searching and googling and am now very tired and am going to bed.
If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. If I am being stupid in my sleep deprived state please feel free to point it out XD.

    Hi all. I'm also running Openbox and have done the following so far;
    1. Installed gnome-themes-standard. Created a new folder ~/.config/gtk-3.0/; Created the file in the folder "settings.ini" with the following code;
    [Settings]
    gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme = true
    gtk-theme-name = Adwaita
    gtk-fallback-icon-theme = gnome
Thanks to the info on the thread here
    2.  Checked out the post here. Downloaded the tar of Adwaita from this.page and did the usual "makepkg -s" magic and rebooted.
What I'm now getting is nm-applet in tint2 with the dark theme of Adwaita which is great but doesn't really match my dark theme axiomd but it's better than before.
What I'm wondering is how to manage this in lxappearance, change font etc?? If I select the theme Adwaita it's a light theme? Having looked in the directory there is both gtk-2.0 (i think this is the light one?) and gtk-3.0.
I've also noticed that it is affecting rhythmbox; slow to load and the status icon setting in the plugins is missing, so you close the GUI and find the app quits rather than the previous behaviour where it would close but the notification icon would still run in tint2 enabling one click control access to the GUI again.
I appreciate this is obviously a new implementation and will take a bit of time to learn but any tips from those in the know would be great!? TIA.

  • IMAQ Upgrade seems to have broken some code

We recently upgraded from the IMAQ 4.0 to 4.5, and some pieces of labview code we wrote have broken. When i boot it up, it gives me warnings like the ones at the bottom. I figure the simplest fix is just to download the old .dll files and overwrite them somehow...does anybody have any ideas on how to do this?

Oops, sorry, actually. I'm not sure what version it used to be, but it currently is 4.1. Is there a way to determine what we upgraded from?
No and those errors are no errors but warnings and as such in fact a bit overreacting. What it says is that a Call Library Node trying to load imaq.dll (which without path means to load it from the one of the Windows standard search paths where the system directory is also part of) has been redirected to load said DLL from the system directory. A rather strange message in fact as those are virtually the same for a properly configured Windows system. Bascially you can ignore this specific warning completely as it informs you of something that Windows will do anyhow, unless you start to copy and move DLLs that were originally installed in the system directory.
    What LabVIEW version is that?

  • Numbers seems to have merged 2 columns upon importing an xls, how can I separate them again?

there are two different headers (M & L) but numbers seems to recognize it as one column - when I click in the cell both headers react. how can I split them up?

  • Safe Boot seems to have broken my W7 Bootcamp partition

    MacBookPro Retina
    OS X 10.8.3
    BootCamp with Win7
Parallel's VM 8 using BootCamp Partition
This morning I was looking at my logs, and I saw a minor odd recurring error with a Spotlight process, so I Googled it, and found that I could fix it by doing a Safe Boot.  So I shut down my running programs, and I did a  SHUTDOWN on my Parallel's Windows 7 VM (running from my BootCamp partition).  I performed the Safe Boot, OS X came up, and everything seemed fine until I tried to start a Win7 VM using Parallels.  When I did that, I got a white progress bar that said "Windows is loading files", and then the WIndows Splash screen, and then the Windows startup recovery tool.  The tool found no errors and so was unable to repair anything, so I closed everything, and rebooted into BootCamp mode, and I found the same sequence of events, but this time the startup tool said that it had repaired Windows and then it rebooted.  But again the system went into startup repair mode, but it found no errors.  Now, each time I boot to BootCamp Win7, the white progress bar is displayed, the startup recovery runs, but it finds no errors, fixes nothing, and then shuts down, only to recur again.  I can F8 into the Windows boot menu, but any choice that I make (safe mode, reovery mode, etc.) gives me the white progress bar with the "Windows is loading files" message, and then the startup recovery tool.  I can boot into OSx, and I can see all of the files on the BootCamp partition, but I can't boot to it.
What did Safe Boot do to my Windows boot process?  How can I fix this?  Thanks.
    Mike

7 GB is on the low side, you really should have minimum 15GB.
Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

i've just turned on my arch 64 system after updating last night (or possibly the day before...)  and when i get to the gdm login the keyboard doesnt work. I can confirm the problem is not with the keyboard itself as i can still edit the boot options in grub. anyone else have this or have i broken something...
    thanks in advance,

I could be wrong, but my understanding is hal would be needed as soon as X starts - so yes it could affect login with gdm. That would also fit with it not working in slim or starting xterm.
If you're pretty sure it's related to the updates it might be helpful to post the parts of pacman.log that are relevant so we can see what exactly got updated.

now monitors do not work they flash on and off and display signal not detected every three to four seconds then come on then go black etc.. and it continues
they setup from the base installation was sweet and this only started after the update ran and rebooted
i can't seem to find any detaisl on a rollback feature or after zapping pram and disconnecting everything and rebooting still no change
    any ideas
monitors are benq 22" in res 1680X1050 and as i said they were working brilliantly till the update ran
any help appreciated - think it might be re install of system software to get it back to original settings

  • My MacBook keyboard seems to have broken?

Hello, I've just turned my Macbook pro on and it seems certain keys (all fairly close to each other) don't seem to work and the volume adjust seems to go up in 1/4's rather than full blocks?
I'm confused, nothing has been spilt into the keyboard and a usb keyboard works just fine.
    Any help?
    Thanks
    Adam
PS. I already tried resetting the PRAM

Well the fact the USB keyboard works fine sounds like something may have gotten stuck in any case.  Even without spills, moisture can cause dust to coagulate under the keys.   To verify it is broke, I would open the Character Keyboard from Apple menu-> System Preferences -> Language and Text -> Input Sources -> Check Show Input Sources in the menubar.  Then from the Select Input Sources to use, select Keyboard and Character Viewer.  Lastly, you'll find the Keyboard viewer in the menu in the upper right.  This window will react to every single key as pressed.  If you see a key that is darker gray that you aren't pressing, that is the faulty key.

  • The Treeview navigation seems to have broken my intranet .

Hmmmmmmm  sometimes issues with SharePoint are like buses - earlier I found that could not open any word documents until installed Office 2010 SP2 32-bit but that is not why I am here :-( .
I am developing a new intranet for a client and am testing out a load of OOTB features to see which ones will best meet requirements we have defined,  ahead of a live deployment.  This led me to the Treeview widget to see if it will help with navigation.
I enabled it on the top level home site which worked but showed way too much information for my users. Hence, I went  over to a member of the team to see what there view looks like ( without SC admin / site owner privileges).
He got this error ( see below) - turns our everyone does now include me ( after a refresh) !  Ouch. Now
this maybe due to our thin client environment .  However this very strange. The only person who has ever changed the master page is me earlier this week when I enabled the breadcrumb but we have all been using this for days - have never
touched the control shown in error.   I will see if anybody in the IT team hasn't been fiddling with the farm but I suspect I am the cause of this disaster ......
Now, I need to remove the treeview feature via settings but I don't seem to be able to navigate to / _settings.
I can access the site via SharePoint designer
I created a replica site albeit unpopulated on my laptop so I can copy untouched  master pages  if needed.
I just need to get this fixed asap!!!!
    Daniel

    Hi skcooke
As in Ribbon bar ->  admin page button - doh! Done and home site is now accessible - thanks. I will try that next time rather than going directly to the browser and then _settings.aspx. Hmmm will try the treeview again but not when in a hurry
    to leave the office lol..

In Console messages I was finding the following along with error -1708:
.sdef warning for argument 'FileType' of command 'save' in suite 'Standard Suite': 'saveable file format' is not a valid type name.
So, I thought I'd change the save line as follows:
save document 1 as "QuickTime movie" in thePath
While this didn't solve the problem, it threw an error and allowed the script to continue with the error dialog rather than hang.
Interestingly, though, the Snow Leopard machine seems to register the same error and yet still manages to save the file correctly.
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers,
    Anthony

  • Firefox update 3.6.15 seems to have broken all addons

Since I update to the most recent firefox (3.6.15), all my addons are broken. In the addon tab, they say that they're enabled, but I can't click on the preferences buttons of any of them. Some of them display a green exclamation point, but the ones that don't are still broken. At the top of the addons tab, it says "Restart Firefox to complete your changes" but if I restart, it still says that and it didn't update them.
I've tried updating several of them manually, but they don't update and they don't work. The addons don't appear anywhere in my browser at all; for instance if it's a toolbar, there's no toolbar and no option to get the toolbar when I right click. If it's a button on my main bar, it's gone, and when I go to "customize" the button is still not available.
I've googled this a bunch and am not seeing anyone with my problem.

  • 10.68 seems to have broken everything! Any clues

After downloading the 10.68 update, nothing seems to work. I figured it was extortion, but I bought Lion to see if that was now the problem. I am on my third download of Lion! The installation keeps failing with the error that the download was corrupted or tampered with. I have rebuilt permissions, repaired the disk (no errors), restarted and booted in safe mode. I am now trying to download the installer in safe mode to see if that works. Anyone have a clue?

I would normally agree with you and I was poised to wipe the drive and start over with Snow Leopard, this is an '09 iMac. Most of the Apple apps were quitting on launch after the 10.68 update. Permissions were repaired more than once and the disk was verified using the DU on the install disk. Single user mode file system check was clean. I finally turned off sleep and screensaver, started in safe mode and was able to get a good download of Lion on the third try. The install went smoothly but afterwards I got a bunch of kernel panics and general craziness that did not make any sense. I started in safe mode again and looked at login items. There was an old iTunes helper with a caution sign. I dumped that from the startup list, cleared the cache and restarted. It has been running smoothly for several hours as I edited and uploaded video.
I am keeping my eyes crossed.

  • Mountain Lion seems to have broken my multiple-monitor setup.

I have a 6-monitor setup, which has been working fine for the last 5 OSX updates... but now, three primary problerms:
    - one of the screens is half-dead. I can mouse to it and the curor appears and moves around, but the screen is otherwise black and nothing will appear on it. I can't even set a background on it.
    - my primary desktop space which is 2560x1600 keeps reverting to 1024x768 when I reboot which of course re-messes up the desktop layout.
    - in fact, all of the configuration changes with respect to displays get lost with reboot... resolution and screen locations with respect to each other... Agh.
I'm sincerely hoping many others are experiencing the same thing, so I'll know Apple is working on correcting the issue.
    .. anyone else?

Well, I'll reply to my own message in case anyone winds up here and wonders what to do.  Here's what I did... I reverted back to Lion, restored perfectly from Time Machine to where my machine was a few days ago and I'm back in business.
This is the first time ever I've had to revert a Mac OS upgrade, but the simple fact seems to be this is a bug and perhaps an update or two from now I'll try again... once someone else has confirmed multiple video cards are properly supported.
Needless to say, my machine is completely factory parts... the cards came purchased with the computer and I haven't modified anything.  None of this wrong driver, IRQ conflict, DMA channel issues and whatever else I thought I left behind when I switched from PC to Mac.
First time for everything, but perhaps Apple missed a QA cycle or two before pulling the trigger on this one.

  • Installing Dreamweaver CS6 on Lion seems to have broken video playback

Last night I was able to play the videos on the Adobe website (for example, CS6 & Creative Cloud Feature Tour for Web) on both Safari and Chrome. After downloading and installing Dreamweaver CS6, I can't play those videos. The page loads but the display box remains blacked out. I verified that I was still able to play the videos on another computer on the same LAN. I also confirmed that I can still play videos at YouTube. It just seems to be Adobe's website that's broken.
My computer is a Mac Pro running OS X Lion. I installed CS6 using an administrator account and rebooted after the install complete.
Anyone else run into a similar issue?

Thank you for trying the install. It may just be a coincidence that just before downloading Dreamweaver, I could view the videos and after installing, I couldn't. Those things happen, unfortunately.
I found some similar issues in other Adobe Forums. I went into the Flash settings, enabled the option for third parties to save Flash components and added tv.adobe.com and images.tv.adobe.com as trusted sites. Now I'm able to view the videos again.

I'm surprised that there seems to be no "new object" event in the JDI. As far as I can tell, the only way to identify a new instance of a class is by requesting MethodExitEvent, checking Method.isConstructor(), and then iterating over ClassType.insta
