Numbers Template Won't Open

Hey All -
I have a Numbers (iWork09) template that will no longer open after my upgrade to Lion (actually three variations of the same template). In addition, all documents that had been created from those templates no longer open either, so I'm fairly confident the actual template file isn't the culprit.
When I open the template (or one of the documents derived from that template), either Numbers freezes and I have to force quit, or the open progress bar stops mid through opening - and I have to force quit. Sometimes the progress bar will complete, but the document still won't open, allowing me to continue to work in Numbers, just not on that document.
I have no idea which way to go next to trouble shoot this problem.
I've uploaded the file to my dropbox to see if someone else can replicate the problem and offer a solution.

As you may see below, no problem here.
(1) as you upgraded to Lion, it would be a good idea to update your profile which claims (10.5.1)
(2) I don't know how you installed Lion.
As I do for every major upgrade, I installed on a blank HD.
(3) May you try to run the app from an other user account ?
I know that you will have to copy the custom template to this account but it's not too complicated (you are not forced to copy it in Templates > My Templates. Copy it to the Desktop would be sufficient)
Doing that would tell us if we must search the culprit in your original account or in the huge set of files shared by every accounts.
(4) You wrote "I have a Numbers (iWork09) template". Is it Numbers as component of the iWork package as it was delivered since january 2009 or is it Numbers bought as a single apple from Mac App Store ?
If it’s a component of the package, may you check that the set of shared files is available on your system ?
On your system, Bibliothèque may be spelled Library

Numbers files won't open

I'm having difficulty since upgrading to lion- some of my numbers files won't open. I'm running numbers 09 v2.1 and initially had no problems but now when I try and open some saved files I get a popup saying I need a newer version of numbers to open the doccument....but there isn't one?!?
Lion is 10.7.2

For what it's worth, Numbers '09 works without problems under Snow Leopard on my system. You might try detailing your situation in the appropriate iWork forum (there's an area for iWorks '08 and one for iWork '09) and see if someone has suggestions.

You could try deleting and then re-downloading the app via the Purchased tab in the App Store app and see if it then works (re-downloading).
And/or you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Sounds like the app is having issues starting. Maybe choking on a file that didn't close correctly?
Suggest going to System Preferences, General, place a check next to "Close windows when quitting the application".
Then follow the direction in the link above. Namely, Force Quit that app and restart the computer.

Numbers 09 - Won't open

My numbers doc won't open but doesn't give reason as to why. Was sent in an email so can view it in Quick View but can't do anything with it... any suggestions? Thanks.

I can open most Numbers doc but a few have come throught that I can't. I asked the person to resend the ones which wouldn't and still having the same problem.
Not sure if its something they are doing the other end with the doc... any suggestions welcome!

Pages (or Numbers) Template Cannot Be Opened From Outside the Application

Ever since the upgrade to Mavericks, I cannot open a Pages (or Numbers) template without being asked.....
Do you want to add this custom template to the Template Chooser? Then my only options are Cancel or Add to Template Chooser.
If I cancel, it won't open anything.
But this template is already in my Template Chooser.
So the only way to open a template in Pages (or Numbers) is to open the application first, and then click "New", and choose the template.
I can't figure out a way to open the template from outside the application, which is very very handy, rather than having to open the application every time that I want to access a template.
How can I open a template simply by clicking on it?

Yes, the problem is that opening the template from outside of the application will not open the application, showing the document. I only get this....

Put your Pages or Numbers document on your desktop and open it by double-clicking it, and you'll understand. You can't do it, even if the template is in your template chooser.
The only way to do this now is to open the application, select "New", and the select the template. So you cannot open a template from outside the application....only from within.

Numbers File Won't Open

I used the invoice template to create an invoice for my wifes business. Printed and saved the file. Now I Get the message "The document “Linda Institute Charges 12_07” could not be opened." every time I try to open it. ANy ideas out there! I rebuilt permissions. Still won't open.

If you'd like, send the file to my e-mail address (select my handle). Is the file located in the same place as saved?

Numbers spreadsheet won't open on iPad

I created a spreadsheet in Numbers yersterday and it won't open on the iPad.

I have a similar problem.
I tried to open a Numbers file and got this message:
"You need a newer version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet."
But I have the latest version 3.0.1 installed. OS 10.9.1iMac

Pages and numbers files won't open in ANY version

Apple, what have you done? I made the sad mistake of upgrading to the newest versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote on the one Mac in our personal and work ecosystem that can run Mavericks. Not only can I not open any existing files in the '09 version of these products once I open them and save in the newest version. Now, I cannot open ANY of these documents in ANY version of these applications. Pleas tell me how to fix this. We have important work and personal files now that we are unable to open at all.
Very disappointed, Apple. These are the sorts of user-experience and quality issues that motivated me to abondon Microsoft...

Well the problem "fixed itself". I logged out, logged in to an other user, opened and saved a few pages files and it worked fine. I logged back out, and back in to the user with the Pages problems, and voila! It works fine - no problems. THis software is far to flaky for me. Unfortunately, my colleague in the last two weeks since upgrading has updraded nearly ALL of our current working Pages files. We now have the very unhappy and uprofitable task of exporting and reverting ALL of those documents so we can revert to Pages 09 - a program that actually iWorks.
Apple, this is really buggy software and it's getting deep-sixed. You've really messed up with this latest set of OS and software "upgrades".

NUMBERS Suddenly Won't Open!!

Today, Numbers stopped working. I’ve updated to the latest version, restarted my computer, and corrected permissions. But the program will only open as far as showing NUMBERS in my menu, and under FORCE QUIT, it states NUMBERS is “not responding.” HELP!

Try opening Numbers in a different user. If so then you should try removing the preferences in your user space.
To do this:
1) quit Numbers
2) navigate to the preferences folder (In the Finder) by using the menu item "Go > Go To Folder..."
3) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences/"
4) locate and move(to the trash BUT DO NOT EMPTY YET) the files:
com.apple.iWork.Numbers.LSSharedFileList.plist
com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
5) now start Numbers.
If Numbers launches correctly you may trash the files

Numbers 13 won't open my old files from Numbers 08 unless I first save them to 09 which I don't have. How can I resolve this?

I have been using Numbers 08 on my early 2008 Mac Pro 2.8Ghz, 8 core and have have 5 years of documents in that format. I skipped Numbers 09 and when Numbers 13 wasn't available free like Pages 13 and Aperture 3, presumably because they were the immediatly previous upgrades, I bought Numbers 13. However it will not open any of my older documents, saying first I have to save them in Numbers 09. How can I resolve this? Will I have to buy Numbers 09 to recover all my documents?

Numbers file won't open and says ' "filename" can't be opened'

I use Numbers for all my spreadsheet work and have an issue opening just one file which was last opened 26 Jan 2014. All my other files open ok and I have tried both versions of Numbers incl 3.1. All I get is a quick pop up notice saying ' "filename" can't be opened' There is no explaination and it is odd as I can open all my other Number files. I did have Numbers quite on me unexpectedly when I had this file open so could it be corrupted? This file was stored on iCloud so I could work on it on my iPad as well as my MBA.
Suggestions for a fix or advice would be greatfully received.

Make sure that you are properly signed into iCloud and that Share Documents is enabled.

Numbers - Spreadsheet won't open

As of today when I sign into icloud.com and try and open my numbers spreadsheets - the files names are full of funny symbols and when I try and open I get told I do not have permission to open.

I reinstall the application, reboot the Mac etc. However when I logged in using another user account, it works. How do I resolve this issue?
