Numbers version 2.0.3 on Mavericks

What versions of Numbers will run on Mavericks and port spred sheets successfully to the new OS?

When you upgrade to Mavericks it installs the new versions of Numbers, Pages and Keynote at the next software update.  Then you are pretty much screwed.  The new versions are downgrades, do not support all previous features and this may result in loss of data.  It is very difficult to continue to use iWork'09 while the new versions are on your system.  The 'always open in' feature accepts your change, and then immediately reverts back to the new version.  The only way is to quit the new version, open the old version of the software and then use the Open command or drag and drop.  Extremely frustrating.  Opening in the new version, even if you don't save it, then opening in the old version resulted in my file being damaged.  Deleting the new versions from your system is the only reasonable option.  But Mavericks will reinstall them again the next day.  So you have to turn off automatic installs, and Mavericks will still bug you every day to install it.  You cannot refuse, you can only say 'Later' and your choices for later are '1 hour', 'tonight' and 'tomorrow'.
Mavericks ***** big time.  I am going to try to revert to Snow Leopard.

iPod 4,1 will not update to iOS 7. I updated my iMac to 10.9.1 (maverick). Latest Numbers version on iMac is not compatible with Numbers on iPod. Ideas? Can I go back a version with Numbers? I downloaded old version of Numbers 2.0.1 from DVD but with both versions the 2.0.1 will not open.  So both versions are present but only the new version functions. I tried to drag the new version to the trash but the old version still runs error message and will not open. I did not try to restart with the new version in the trash.

    Maybe. See:

  • How can I convert an old Numbers file to be compatible with the new Numbers version, without having access to the old?

I received a Numbers file created in iWorks version 8 or earlier, but only have the newest version of Numbers on my MacBook Air. I can't request the sender to reformat the file. Is there any way to convert the file so I can open it in the new Numbers version?

Are you sure you don't still have Numbers from iWork '09 on your MacBook Air. My Mid 2012 does. To be certain you can look in the Applications folder to see if there is an iWork 09 folder. You can also use Spotlight search to see if it will find that Numbers as well as the current one.
If you do find to 09 version: iWork '09 and iWork '08: File compatibility

    Hi Adj,
Many features have been lost in Numbers 3. You can send feedback to Apple with Menu > Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback.

Numbers has never had Page Breaks. The Numbers approach is to have several tables, each with a purpose. For example, an input table, a number crunching table, and a "Presentation" table to summarise results.
If your quotation runs to six pages, perhaps you could have 6 tables designed so that each fits within a layout guide:
    Layout Guide for Numbers
Option 2, if you previously had Numbers 2.3 (Numbers '09) it now lives in a folder called iWork '09 inside your Applications folder. It works just as well as it used to, and has a proper Print View.
Option 3, copy and paste your table to Pages where I believe the layout is easier to arrange (maybe).

  • HT202905 applescript to remove certain columns in numbers version 3.5.x?

How do I tell applescript to remove certain columns in numbers version 3.5.x?

    Via something like:
    tell application "Numbers"
delete column 2 of table 1 of sheet 1 of document 1
    end tell
To effectively AppleScript Numbers.app you need to understand its hierarchy - that is, documents contain a number of worksheets. Each worksheet has a number of tables (could be 1, could be many) and therefore you need to provide a complete reference to identify the column you want to delete.

  • Recently updated Numbers to Version 3.5.2 and now also seem to have Numbers Version 2.0 on my launchpad? Can anyone explain how this has happened - how do I get rid of it?

Recently updated Numbers to Version 3.5.2 and now also seem to have Numbers Version 2.0 on my launchpad? Can anyone explain how this has happened - how do I get rid of it? Not able to move to Trash.

What is strange however is that my iMac is only a few months old and they all were upgraded to V3.x just a few months ago - with all Apps for iWork removed at that time.
Unless you did something specific to remove the old versions of the iWork apps (not advisable) then, as Wayne points out, they were not actually removed from your Mac, just moved into that subfolder within your main Applications folder.
I originally downloaded Numbers 2.x from the App Store (i.e. didn't install from a disk). I still have it on my Mac.  But only Numbers 3.x appears in Launchpad.
I don't know whether this will help, but in Mac App Store you might try clicking 'Account' under 'Quick Links' on the right, signing in with your password, and clicking the 'Reset' button to the right of 'Reset all warnings for buying and downloading'.  Sometimes the App Store gets a little confused. It's possible Launchpad may be taking its cue from the App Store in showing that old version of Numbers.
By Launchpad I assume you really mean Launchpad, not the Dock.  I usually use the Dock. If that's what you're using too, then of course you can just drag the icon for the old Numbers off the Dock and it will vanish. (But the Numbers 2.3 application will still be there in that subfolder when you need it.)

  • The numbers version of my document has disappear, now i have only access to my document in pdf version,

the numbers version of my document has completely dissappear, i can only have access to the pdf version, I went on time machine ,and again no more copy of my numbers document ?
I realy do'nt know what has happenned, can I transform the pdf document  in the original numbers version ?

If the Numbers doc is, indeed, backed up in Time Machine, then you should be able to go back in time through the backup history until you see the file.  Make sure you are in the folder where the file used to be.  Also look through email and see if you sent the file to anyone
Also... make sure you did not accidentally move the file into the trash.  You can open the trash by clicking on, and holding, the mouse button while hovering over the trash can in the dock:

  • Numbers version 3.1 won't open Numbers file

My Customer has a recent Mac (2 months) with nothing extra installed. He uses Numbers (version 3.1) last I checked.
He works with a document several weeks. And then this morning he was unable to open the numbers file again. "You need a newever version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet".
Curiously: he mailed me the file and i cannot open his file with my Numbers v3.1.
I have looked in the Package Contents: where are the data stored b.t.w? (Maybe his file is corrupted!)
    Any ideas?

    Hi Stefan,
Does MacOS X retain older versions? What is the use?
Yes older versions of iWork are retained when you upgrade.  Many people find that useful, since the feature sets are different.
So make sure you File > Open with the Numbers that is in your main Applications folder, not any version that is in a subfolder.
Also bear in mind that unless you turn it off in System Preferences > iCloud, new versions are automatically downloaded. If you don't want installations without your knowledge you can turn that off.

  • Numbers version 3.5.2

How does one show breaks on a page in numbers version 3.5.2? I'm not able to see the end of a page without going to print preview.
    Thanks, Leo

    Hi Joe,
Jerry was replying to Leo. Please don't shoot the messenger.
Numbers 3 is not an update of Numbers 2. It is a complete rewrite of Numbers to make Numbers for OS X  more compatible with Numbers for iOS through iCloud.
If you have a specific question about layout in Numbers 3, please start a new thread.

Click here and read the entire page. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004.

  • Isn´t keynote, numbers and pages free after installing Mavericks?

I tried to download numbers after installing Mavericks and it still shows it´s $19,99 price. Any work around?
Is there any special instruction regarding this?

    Hi Dahveed,
I'm still confused i have the Mac versions of  iWork 08 installed from DVD and still the app store is not offering me the latest version of iWork for free which is what the macworld article states below should be happening..
Is this a problem with the app store?
    Regards
    Alistair
If you don’t own iLife '11 or iWork ’09 apps (or v1 iOS apps), or own older Mac versions: On the iLife side, you’ll have to buy iMovie and iPhoto at full price ($15 or $5, depending on platform). GarageBand is free for everyone to download, though the app does offer in-app purchases. Apple’s iWork apps are each $20 for the Mac, $10 on the iPhone or iPad.

  • I was told at the Apple store that Apple was now offering Pages, numbers and keynote free with the Mavericks download.  I noticed that I got the free when I downloaded the newest operating system on my iPad.  True?  And if so, how do you do it?

I was told at the Apple Store when Mavericks was introduced that Pages, Numbers and Keynote would be offered at no charge with Mavericks.  When I downloaded Mavericks, I could not figure out how to download them without the charges.  When I downloaded the most recent OS to my iPad, I got a prompt to download them.  Can someone tell me how to download them without the charges?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It's not correct at all. It is true that Apple is offering Numbers, Keynote and Pages for free, but only for users who have purchased a Mac after October 1st, 2013, and for existing iWork '09 users. If you have not got iWork '09 and you purchased your Mac before October 1st, you need to pay for these apps.
The new iWork version (Numbers, Keynote and Pages) is criticised by its lack of features. Instead, I recommend you to get LibreOffice or, if you need the most complete productivity suite, Office for Mac. Give LibreOffice a try first
