Numbers won't update and run

For last month I can't use numbers as it would it open. It happened after trying to run update. Can't close or open app, reinstall What to do?

This is confusing to a lot of people. When you downloaded the new version of Numbers the old version remained on your Mac. The new version is in Applications. The old version is in a subfolder within Applications. The icons look similar so it's easy to think you're trying to open a document with the new version whereas in fact the old version has been activated and is trying to open it.
If you tend to open documents from Finder then right-click and Open With ... Numbers.app (3.0).
Or you can open Numbers 3.0 (the one in the Applications folder, not the iWork '09 subfolder) and open the document from there.
Any icons you had on the Dock before the upgrade are of course still pointing to the old version.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem. The backup is necessary on principle, not because of anything suggested in this comment. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help to identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the state of the system that may be pertinent.
Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out. Here's a brief summary: You copy a line of text from this web page into a window in another application. You wait about a minute. Then you paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, paste again. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode. If the system is now running in safe mode and is bootable in normal mode, reboot as usual. If it only boots in safe mode, proceed anyway.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter your password, the script will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important, so don't worry about it.
The script may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear in the Terminal window.
You can then quit Terminal. The output of the script will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. All you have to do is paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V again.
Please note:
☞ This procedure is all copy-and-paste — type nothing in the Terminal window except your login password if and when prompted.
☞ Remember to post the output. It's already in the Clipboard when you see "[Process completed]" in the Terminal window. You don't have to copy the output; just paste into your web browser.
☞ If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.

Twitter loads, but won't update and gives Twitter error message, but only in Firefox.

I just installed my operating system (Ubuntu Linux 12.04, KDE desktop) three days ago, and installed Firefox yesterday. When I go to my Twitter feed, I get a bar at the top of the page saying "Sorry! We did something wrong. Please refresh the page and try again." Refreshing doesn't change anything. At the same time, my feed won't update, and scrolling down the page doesn't bring bring up more tweets, just an error message saying:
Loading Tweets seems to be taking a while.
Twitter may be over capacity or experiencing a momentary hiccup. Try again or visit Twitter Status for more information.
This does not happen in Chrome or Rekonq. I've checked all my add-ons, cleared my history, cache and cookies. I don't know what else to do. Help?

What worked for me was to delete all cookies in Firefox, and then log in again to Twitter. Options > Privacy > clear you recent history. Ask it to clear everything and untick all but cookies.

Numbers won't update

I'm running Numbers 3.0.1 on Mavericks, and each time I open it, it tells me there is an update available, yet when I click through to the store, it doesn't appear. Other than paying another £13.99 (no thanks!) I can't work out what to do.
I'm having the same problem with Pages (5.0.1) and at the moment can only seem to access anything on my iPad.

Wayne Contello has written a User Tip for working with the old and new versions of iWork.

The trick is to drag icons for both versions to your Dock. Right click or control click on each and Options > Keep in Dock. That puts you in charge of which version you launch.
Here is a screen shot of both Numbers icons on my Dock.
Numbers 2.3 (Numbers '09) on the left with a three column graph.
Numbers 3.2 on the right with a four column graph.
Both versions will run happily together. Just be sure which version is opening your document. Do not uninstall Numbers 2. You might need it!
Instead of double clicking the document, run whichever version of Numbers/Pages/Keynote suits and use File > Open.

Chart pasted into Keynote (from Numbers) won't update. Please help.....

When i copy a chart from Numbers 09 and paste into Keynote 09, it won't update (if i make a change in Numbers). It's the same problem if i try and paste a chart into Pages also. Any advice (i've tried the usual solutions)???

This is the procedure for charts:
Updating a Chart Copied from a Numbers Document
If you’ve created a chart in Numbers, you can copy it and paste it into your Keynote
presentation. After it’s been pasted into Keynote, the chart remains linked to the data
tables it references in Numbers.
To change the chart data, open the original Numbers
document and edit the data there, save the Numbers document, and then refresh the
chart data in Keynote.
To update a chart after you’ve updated its data in its linked Numbers table:
mm Select the chart on the slide canvas and click the Refresh button that appears.
Note: You must save the Numbers document before copying and pasting your chart
into your Keynote presentation and after editing the Numbers data tables that the
chart references.

Iphone 5s numbers won't update

i had 5s updates and all went thru except numbers tried and tried on 2 different wi fi's, no luck, deleted numbers and went to app store to reinstall and it wont, circle just spins and goes back to install??? i noticed during the updates even then it just said update while the others showed the circle sign, thx

Installed IOS 6.1.3 last night and to do so, had to make space on the phone as it was near full.
After that, it took a dirt nap.
I have the 4S and experienced the same "problem" documented all over these message boards. Frustrated after trying all the fixes, including a hard reboots, resets of settings, deleting apps, reinstalling apps, new apps, synching ... everything that made sense.
Finally, frustrated and wishing I owned something other than an Apple product at this moment, I decided to go back to what I did to "free up" space -- once I fixed this, the apps stopped "waiting" and started updating.
The issue was in iTunes where I had selected on my phone's settings (to be clear, this is under "Apps" in iTunes), and DESLECTED "Automatically Fill Free Space with Songs."
Solution/Issue: my guess is that the updates were spooling because there wasn't enough space to run the sync.
Thank you Apple -- for NOTHING. A simple error message "Not enough space" would have been brilliant.

My Apple TV won't update and I can't sign into iTunes

I have the second generation Apple TV which is due an upgrade of software but it won't update. I kept getting a message saying that it wouldn't work. It also won't sign me in to iTunes and Netflix never works. Not sure of this has anything to do with not being able to upgrade. Can someone help?

TS3274 Original iPad won't charge, won't update and iTunes won't recognize

I have one of the first generation iPads that won't charge unless it is completely drained of power. Also if after it shuts off from 0% power ifr any reason it gets turned back on while plugged in, it stops charging and won't continue to charge until the device is completely drained again. Also iTunes won't recognize the device AND it is operating under iOS 5.1.1 and says the software is up to date and won't update at all. I have tried different plugs, different computers, nothing works. Is my iPad just too old?

The failure to update isn't an issue. The iPad one is maxed out at 5.1.1.
The other issues may be an issue with the battery, or charging port or software inside. You may want to make an appointment to get it checked out, but even if what's broken is a manufacturer's defect you're outside of any warranty so the most you'll get is the offer of an out of warranty replacement for a fee. might ultimately be cheaper to put that money towards a new device.
Have you tried to give your iPad a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if that helps.

Try resetting the iPad: Simultaneoisly hold down the On and Home buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignor the off slider if it should appear. This should take around ten seconds, give or take. Once shut down is complete, turn the iPad back on using the On button.

Many developers are releasing updates today because tomorrow Apple is shutting down iTunes Connect (the developer backend to iTunes) for the holidays. This could be affecting things, but I doubt it.
You can try resetting your iPhone by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears. Try again to see if the problem persists.

Download the Update and run locally multiple times.

Is it possible to get the (October 2gb update) bits locally from a machine instead of downloading on every machine i have with Win10? I see various folders, but not sure what would work. 2.5gig at a shot is a chunk.

I was thinking a way to create a ISO file so that we can use this file to perform upgrade, but the method would be a bit of complicated.
Here is my thought and steps.
First, if we update our Windows 10 Technical Preview for Enterprise to 9860 build, we would get a install.esd file under C:\RecoveryImage folder.
In Windows 8.1, here is a tool called update advisor, which would covert the esd file to ISO file, but in Windows 10 Technical Preview, there is no such thing. So my thought is to use the install.esd
to create an install.wim or bootable ISO file.
In my first thought, I want to sysprep an updated OS, but it failed without doubt, because we cannot sysprep a updated version OS. So, I choose to use Reset option. Install.esd would be recognized
a compressed install.wim. when I use reset option in 9860 build, it reset the current OS, and I can sysprep this system now. After that, I was trying to use install.esd file directly in 9841 build:
I copy the install.esd to a 9841 build OS, for example, I copy it to C:\RecoveryImage, and run
reagentc.exe /setosimage /path C:\RecoveryImage /target c:Windows /Index 1 , it cannot reset the Windows OS. So I have to create an install.wim file for deployment.
I use Reset option in 9860 build OS, when it is finished, run sysprep, it ran well, I can capture 9860 build wim file (WDS server capture or dism command). We rename it as install.wim.
Use the captured install.wim to set recovery image in 9841 build (copy install.wim to C:\RecoveryImage, and run
reagentc.exe /setosimage /path C:\RecoveryImage /target c:Windows /Index 1), 9841 build succeed upgrading to 9860 build via Reset and Refresh options.
Refresh would upgrade without losing setting and data.
