  • Ibook keyboard does not respond!

    Hi
I have a ibook with tiger installed. Everything is normal...except the keyboard. There is no response when I press any key, execpt the num lock key. What a strange thing!
    Any solutions please?

This is very odd. Is this iBook new to you or did the problem just start? Was anything ever spilled on the keyboard that you know of?
You can go to System Preferences>Keyboard and Mouse and check on all the keyboard settings and maybe restore the defaults and see if this affects anything.
You might also go to the Apple site and find the DIY instructions for replacing the keyboard. What you want to do is to open up the keyboard and be sure the cable is securely plugged in. It almost sounds like it might not be.
There are a couple of keyboard articles in the Apple knowledge base that might help, but unfortunately I'm on a trip and don't have the exact references. You might try going to the iBook section of Apple Support and searching for these. There is one that specifically discusses the keyboard not working.
    Good luck!

  • Re: Satellite P845t - keyboard does not respond

    Hi
I am on Satellite P845t with Win 8 and get a serious sensitivity issue with keyboard. It looks like the driver issue but was not able to find the keyboard driver on the website
so, now the main question is where to find it.
Sorry to be summary, but I had to be, because I can't really type... if I type normally
    it cms lkehi asically
    it becomes like this basically.
    Yo

Thanks. I'm then a little lost. In terms of what to do.
    It's preinstalled Win 8. 64bit.
Rather suddenly keyboard and touchpad started malfunctioning. I noticed the synaptic driver gone, so re-installed it to a good effect. I don't know how and when it was lost. Hence I thought it would be a driver issue.
    Tried:
    Toshiba and MS updates
    safe mode booting
    no luck yet.

  • Apple USB keyboard does not work

I have the same problem as described by Sweboss on November 15th, 2012. The Apple USB keyboard is working perfectly, but if I shut down the computer, when I switch it on again, the USB keyboard does not respond, and the computer is looking for a Bluetooth keyboard (which I had before). I have tried switching off, unplugging all peripherals, then unplugging the computer, waiting 15 seconds, then plug it in, wait 5 seconds (this is a remedy proposed in other mails). Switch on and the USB keyboard does not respond. It is not that particular USB port, as it works perfectly well with other peripherals like my scanner, or printer, and changing ports does not help. And when I tried it last time, I had no other USB peripherals connected. Can anyone help?

That is definitely some strange behavior, good to finally be working, but does not explain exactly what causes the behavior.  Could have something to do with the energy saver part of the operating system, or a miscommunication with the USB bus itself.  With multiple USB ports it would be good to test on different ports to see if that is an issue.  Anyway, it is working now and that is good.
Another I don't know why but it works: a couple months ago a user was having problems with a wireless keyboard.  The keyboard-iMac communication resulted in random charaters, time lag, and other bad behavior.  The user finally found by accident that turning the keyboard off, removing the batteries, and then spending about five minutes just pressing keys, placing the palm of the hand on the keyboard and pressing, just pressing and pressing, and then replacing the batteries and turning on the keyboard, it worked fine.  Seems like it is necessary to just force the keyboard to discharge all of the key switches.  Those keyboards use capacitance switches instead of mechanical switches.  So they retain a charge.
While that was a wireless keyboard, I wonder if that was what happened in a way with your keyboard...the unplugging and leaving it for a period of time, any charge may have dissipated and it would work again.  If this happens again, try the above procedure and see if it helps.

  • IMac A1311 does not respond to any keyboard or mouse

    Hello,
My iMac A1311 does not respond to any keyboard or mouse.
I can restart it. It starts without a problem, but I can't enter my account password or move the cursor.
I have tried using four different keyboards including the original bluetooth keyboard and mouse, an Apple wired keyboard, a generic wired keyboard and a wireless keyboard. I also tried resetting PRAM as well as NVRAM. I even tried to start it in Target Mode and tried to start it with a start-up disk (The disk remained inside the computer). Unfortunately, it all seems to originate with the same problem. The computer does not recognize the mouse or the keyboard. I believe I could rule out a problem with the USB port since the original keyboard/mouse uses Bluetooth.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance...

Is this a wake from sleep problem, or after only after a restart?
If it is a 'wake from sleep' issue then since some point in OS X 10.6.x, through 10.7 and 10.8, some users (me included) seem to have the occasional problem with the Mac being unresponsive to any commands from the keyboard/mouse/trackpad, and the issue seems to be something to do with Bluetooth not fully waking from sleep.
The 'fix' that works for me 100% of the time is to go to System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.
I keep hoping that an OS software update will come up with a 'proper' fix.

Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.  See if that clears the glitch.

  • My keyboard on my 4s will not type the letter p or 0 in vertical/portrait position and the whole bottom row in horizontal sometimes does not respond

My keyboard does not type the letter p or the number 0 in portrait/vertical position. And when I use the horizontal keyboard from time to time all functions on the bottom row do not work at all like the space bar, return key, etc. It has become a bit of a nuisance. I have just installed the 7.1 update but was having this issue prior. I have also had the glass replaced (not by apple) about a year ago with no issues until now. Is there anything I can do? I have not reset all settings. But I really don't want to have to do that because I doubt it will help.

    UPDATE
Called HTC... No help, suggested factory reset ,which I didn't mind as I have no data on the phone yet, after reset must call *228 to reprogram. Did not work. Next suggestion, download a keyboard app, the free ones are crap. Why should I have to pay extra to make the device usable? I thought a working keyboard was apart of the initial $200.
On my own I tried *228 option 2 which is some sort of roaming update. That did not work either.

  • Apple USB keyboard does not work on PC (Windows 8)

I am trying to use my USB Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad with my PC that is running Windows 8 but it will not work. It does not respond at all. It works fine with a USB mouse and a different keyboard.
Are there any drivers that are required?

I'm facing the same problem, found any solutions ?

  • Keyboard does not connect - have narrowed to a software issue as it works in safe mode, but do not know how to resolve the software issue

I was in the process of connecting a Razer Blackwidow USB keyboard to my iMAC and something went wrong.
The new keyboard doe not respond and now my bluetooth keyboard does not work either. No connectivity whatsoever.
I've tried a number of things, including resetting the PRAM / NVRAM and SMC (interesting that the computer responds to the keyboard commands that are required to reset the PRAM). I also checked all the universal access setting to make sure nothing was interfering with normal keyboard operation.
btw, blutooth seems to think the keyboard is connected I get a gree light. I can even go through the process of unpairing and pairing and it allows me to type in the numberical code to pair the keyboard, but after that, it still does not work.
When I start the machine in safe mode, the keyboard works fine. So I've narrowed this down to a software problem. I tried to go to another user account to see if it's just associated with the current user, but since I have no keyboard connection at all, I can't type in a password, so that's no good.
I've eliminated a number of applications that I have recently installed (including the Razer set up app) that might interfere with keyboard operation, but no luck.
Any suggestions on how to go about tracking down this software issue?
    Thanks - musikman7

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” (without the quotes) and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • System wide keyboard commands not responding

My mac stops responding to system wide keyboard commands such as the Dashboard, Expose and Spotlight shortcuts. It also does not respond to Command-Tab to switch between applications. Hitting the keys for any of these leads to no response whatsoever.
I have run into this problem several times over the last few months, and the only solution I have found is to restart the computer. Initially, it appeared to be related to the ScreenSaver process crashing. I could look in the System Monitor and see that this process had gone red, when I forced the process to quit, the keyboard commands were restored. More recently, though, this has not been the case, and I have had to restart.
Any guesses what could cause this or suggestions on how to diagnose it? Thanks for any help.

    I'll answer in reverse.
When I've experienced the problem, I have tried other (older style) keyboards, and that did not resolve the problem.
I've never tried creating another user account.
I'll try disabling the screen saver, but part of the problem is that this issue is sufficiently intermittent that it take a while to determine if this has a benefit. I was hoping to find some more systematic way to diagnose what has been happening. Any suggestions along these lines?
Thanks for your help and interest.

    Brian

    Hello there, Brian.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps that help when an application isn't functioning as expected or quits unexpectedly.
With the "Restart" step, make sure you go through and close all applications that are running. If after performing the "Restart" step, you find the issue persists, try the reset portion of the instructions:
iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
If the issue continues unresolved after performing all the recommended steps in that article, you may want to follow these instructions:
Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • HELP NEEDED. Plugin container stopped working / Script does not respond

    Hi!
I am aware that there are numerous articles about this problem, but unfortunately none of them solves my problem.
Very frequently, at least once a day (usually from 3 to even 7 times a day) my Mozilla Firefox freezes and I am forced to restart it. It typically occurs when I try to open a page with some interactive content in it (youtube, some fancy flash pages, even gmail document preview). When I try to close it, Windows pops up a message saying that "Firefox stopped working" and terminates the application itself, and then another window pops up, saying "Plugin Container for Firefox stopped working". It's usually either that, but sometimes Mozilla also shuts itself without any warning and the same message appears.
As for "script does not respond", it does happen as well, although way more seldom. Usually it happens on the pages with lots of images. The whole browser then freezes for couple of seconds, then it pops up a window saying that the script does not respond and asks whether I want to force it to continue or not. It doesn't make any difference which option I choose because usually the browser crashes anyway.
I am using version 34 and I made sure all my plugins and addons are up to date. I also disabled hardware acceleration and tried to reinstall whole flash thing. I wonder whether it's the fault of one of my addons, but I admit I am not too eager to try and disable them all and then test it one by one because it would take up way too much time.
Apart from that, none of the previous solutions seem to help, and the problem really gets on my nerves because numerous times I lost a huge block of text I was writing. Now I learned to copy everything I write couple of times :/
Maybe the crash reports will help. I'll link them from the newest to the oldest (for some weird reason they are 3 crash reports from today, yesterday and 3 days ago - weird, because the browser has shut itself today at least twice, not to mention previous days):
    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/ba7f5087-3d7d-4b2c-b9b1-04e6d2150105

    https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/c3f81ff8-df10-45a6-8400-1c5912150103
I'll be glad for any help because, honestly, I can't stand it anymore. No reinstalling of Firefox or restoring settings to default have helped me yet.

Hmm, that's pretty bad. Often if Windows is stepping in with the crash report, then the issue is with a driver incompatibility, most commonly a display driver.
Here are a couple things to try:
    (1) Disable Firefox from using hardware acceleration
This is the traditional workaround. You can use:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
That takes effect the next time you exit and start Firefox up again, which the way you describe it, might be quite soon.
    (2) Disable the Flash player plugin from using hardware acceleration
This is a separate setting. See this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    (3) Disable the Flash plugin's protected mode feature
Protected mode has security benefits, but is not compatible with all systems for some reason. It can stall scripts on some systems, for example. You can disable the feature by creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches:
    * Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
    * Manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/968190?page=5#answer-509209
    * Batch file to automate the manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/982093#answer-518078 (alternate version of Carm's batch file with a few changes by me: [https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=f7d304d92388737d&id=F7D304D92388737D!336&ithint=file,.bat&authkey=!AP2FXW2Y_3BXZyo])
    Any improvement?

  • Trackpad is paired but cursor does not respond

OS 10.7.5 on 2009 Mac Pro. My new trackpad shows 43% battery but the cursor does not respond. Also keeps losing pairing. Could this be a battery issue? Someone told me that regular AA batteries sometimes cause these problems and that I shoid use lithium rechargeables (which does not make sense to me). This must be either the batteries or a defective unit. Comments appreciated.

Here are a few notes I have put together about batteries.   If something helps you, fine, let us know.   If not, post back with anything you can add about your problem.
Whether you use regular or rechargeable batteries you should buy the best. Discounted or unbranded batteries are more likely to give a depleted performance and may be of irregular size, often leading to connection problems.  Apple’s own brand, Eneloop and Energiser appear to be the best.
Rechargeable batteries for a standard Magic mouse are unlikely to exceed eighteen days before requiring a recharge.    Apple may say more in their sales blurb but this is a realistic expectation.   The benefit (if you are organised) is that you will always have charged batteries available.     Regular batteries will give you between 25 and 35 days before they need to be replaced.
Never mix old and new batteries or rechargeable and regular.
Both the above are based on my personal experience, not shutting down my machine and using it for around four hours per day.   Note.   Monitors do not always faithfully report battery strength, particularly with rechargeable ones.
When checking your mouse or keyboard batteries ...
    Turn off the device.
    Remove the batteries,
Clean the terminals both inside the battery compartment and on the batteries themselves.
    Replace or renew both batteries.
Turn on the device.   You should get a blinking green light if the device is paired.
Click the mouse to activate it.  The green light becomes steady.
