Numeric-pad 0 key-command behavior
This isn't explicitly mentioned in the manual, but I reckon my numeric pad 0 key should function as a stop | rewind-to-top key-command. Now, my problem is:
- it doesn't;
- this function can't be assigned from the key-command window.
NB: I use a French keyboard...
Q1: am I missing something?
Q2: what work-around would you suggest?
Q3: how can I define a key as a sequence of commands?
A key cannot be assigned as a sequence of key commands within Logic, and there isn't a command for exactly the function you want. However, here's a neatly-grouped bunch of key commands that can offer you the functionality you want:
1. Assign numeric keypad ENTER to key command "play"
2. Assign numeric keypad 0 to "stop"
3. Assign numeric keypad "." to "•go to position"
I think this combination of keys will give you the most flexibility. It would be a piece of cake to get your sequence to start from bar 1 (or any other bar for that matter):
hit 0
hit .
hit 1
hit ENTER
That key sequence would take a fraction of a second to execute.
The zero and/or the "." will function as normal for numerical entry! After a value is entered, they will invoke the various key commands you've assigned.
There are numerous other Global key commands available that might better serve you, but the above is my suggestion.
As far as your using a French keyboard, this should, theoretically, make no difference as to whether or not key commands work. Having said that, there are many bugs associated with the Key Commands window, and some key combinations won't work, and F14 and F15 by themselves won't work for anything. But you shouldn't have any problem using the numeric keypad to work.
If you're having trouble getting key commands to work by "key label", try programming them by "key position" instead.

How do I remove the enter key on the numeric keypad as a command key?
How do I remove the enter key on the numeric keypad as a command key. I want to use the enter key as a return key.
Don't. It will void the warranty. Take is to an Apple store or an AASP and have them do it.

Has anyone had the "equals" key in the numeric pad stop working since installing the Boot Camp 3.3 update?
I have been an ardent user of aperture for years now and got used to the great workflow. Ever since version 1 I have been enjoying working with aperture. It is the workflow that kept me from changing.
I got a new MacPro 12 GB ram, 4TB HDD my library mostly indexed files sits on a raided 2TB for maximum of comfort. I did this in an effort to keep me from writing the posts I writing lately. I do not have the time rally to do this but reality is something different.
Today I am working on a job I need to finish quickly and in aperture workflow manner. So I switched to full screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen mode and after pressing 'H' for the HUD my screen started flickering. please look at the video I posted in my flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mawas/4719742585/
Now this is the second time this happened in a short time after I got a new mac and upgraded to 10.6.4! After the screen had jammed up : http://gallery.me.com/masuwa/100103 I needed to hard boot my mac I am getting nervous! -
Just bought a Mac book and the set up is with the Voice over key commands, how do you switch this off as it is painfull to use and use the scroll pad?
It's the button (key) that is labelled Control.
Each of the modifier keys and similar keys has its own symbol; this makes listing command keys easier to do. The Command key is usually the only key which has its symbol printed on the key. If you open Keyboard Viewer (in the Input menu, the one which displays the flag in the main menu bar), you can see what symbol refers to which key. -
Are the default key commands completely different in L9 compared to L8?
Hi Guys,
I have had to reset my key commands to the defaults, and seem to have lost all my old key commands.
My commands with Logic 8 were the absolute default ones (I didn't change any of them!!) - here are some of the ones I used a lot:
Pressing 0 on the numeric keyboard was always stop. "/" on the numeric keyboard was always cycle on/cycle off.
Pressing control and using the up/down/left/ right arrows (the ones in between the QWERTY keyboard and the number pad) always zoomed in and out, vertically and horizontally respectively...
Pressing the "C" key was always click on/click off. Now it's cycle on/off.
My question is... can someone confirm that the Logic 9 default key commands are completely different, and that these shortcuts above have all gone?
I know I can set them up again, I guess I'm just puzzled that so many of the main commands would completely change their defaults for L9!
Cheers and thanks,
MikeSome of the more in-depth key commands have changed slightly , but the standard ones are still the same.
Most of these you've described are ( or should be still ) exactly the same.
Make sure that you are still using the standard keyboard layout and language in *'Apple/system preferences/international/input menu'*
Mine swiched to German a few months ago and I had no idea what was going on. -
Desktop vs laptop key commands.
I just recently picked up a 15" i5 MBP which is the first laptop I've ever used for audio.
Key commands for a full key board with numeric pad are so ingrained in my mind that I'm hesitant to "learn" variations for the laptop. Believe me, I'm not complaining about having to excute for few extra mouse pad clicks.
How are other folks juggling desktop vs laptop key strokes?
I suppose I could get a full size wireless keyboard (as the MBP USB ports are already spoken for).
Input appreciated.
Cheers.I played around with the key board preferences (US with numeric pad vs just plain US)
I once created a list of the differences between those two presets. Here it is. I realize it's tough to read on this web page, but that's because this forum won't let me use html table tags. But if you paste the text into a spreadsheet or word processor, it will instantly format as a table (because tabs are embedded) and be easily readable.
The first column is the US with numeric keypad, and the second column is the plain US. Any commands not on this list are the same in both presets.
Anyone confused by any of those symbols can find an illustrated guide here or here.

Need key commands list - complete
can someone do me a favor and email me the clipboard output of the comprehensive key command list? i'm not in a position to do this myself right at the moment. if someone chimes up, i'll reply with the email address to send it to. no formating or anything is necessary.
also, for those that use key commands a lot and have some complex customization, what is your opinion on its reliability? my questioning is due to the possible utilization of a remote session of logic, receiving custom MIDI sysex commands to basically remote control functionality via MIDI. (i will be sending commands via TCP, but there will be a local server sending MIDI to the host machine) do key commands ever not execute? if you send a rapid sequence of key commands, do they execute in a predictable fashion? etc...Why do you need to use Sysex commands? They're so much more complicated to program and keep track of...
In terms of reliability, sometimes I find that key commands "go bad". This is almost always a case of "key label" commands going bad and to fix the problem they need to be re-programmed as "key position". That's the only buggy behavior re key commands, aside from the bugs in the key command window itself. But that's another story. Here's the list:

While trying to record a guitar track direct through from a POD HD Pro (which I've done numerous times), Logic suddenly crashed. The screen went dark and my Macbook Pro rebooted. Once I opened Logic Pro X again, it looks like a more primitive and basic version of Logic. I no longer have the capability to open a separate mix/midi/score/etc window. When I select midi tracks they do not show up in the piano roll as to be able to edit. I've also lost all key command functions (i used just default Logic key commands). Is there any way to restore Logic Pro X or do I need to reinstall it? Thanks!
Sounds like Logic's prefs got deleted or corrupted so...
First, do this (Note you will lose any custom key commands you may have created ...)
Quit Logic pro X and then....
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
Restart the computer.
Now after restarting Logic... go to Logic Preferences/Advanced and turn on all the advanced features...
Set other preferences back to how you like them (Not forgetting selecting your Audio device)
Things should be then back to normal again... -
TYPE and SIZE, 2 more columns to the variable in the Command behavior?
DW 8.02 added 2 more columns to the variable in the Command
behavior, TYPE and SIZE. What do you put in here?
What is the difference for Access text, Date/Time, number and
Memo columns.
The Dreamweaver DOCS don't cover this update and you can't OK
the COMMAND without these two columnsThis will be of some help:
http://www.w3schools.com/ado/ado_datatypes.asp
You should be able to gather the column size from the
database's table
definition. Typically, columns that hold text are one byte
per character
(two for Unicode), whereas integers are 4 bytes. Other
numeric types and
date types vary among database systems.

Numeric pad not working correctly mainly in Microsoft Word
I have an Apple keyboard with an integrated numeric pad integrated on the right.
Since a while I have a problem that some of the keys on the numeric pad do not work anymore. The + does not work at all and the * toggles show/hide ¶.
It is not in all programmes, Microsoft Word has the problem but Filemaker Pro does not.
I tried an other KB same result.
Any ideas how to fix this?smithrj wrote:
It may be a mechanical issue. The keyboard may have issues. Do you have a spare keyboard to troubleshoot and narrow the problem down?
Hi Ray
If you look n my original post you will see I covered that.

So answer is yes. -
Apple's new wireless keyboard - why no numeric pad?????
I wanted to go buy one of those new sleek keyboards a while ago and I wanted it to be wireless. But then I found out that the wireless keyboard doesn't have a numeric pad! Why? Really, I don't see the purpose of this! I hope someone at Apple reads this and that they will start producing wireless keyboards with a numeric pad again because until then they won't see my money going to them. Anyone else who shares my opinion about this?
StefI agree, the numerical keypad is not useful for me. However, I miss the delete, home, end and page up/down keys. It is annoying with the wireless keyboard to have to use backspace to delete.
Apple should either expand the current wireless model to include these keys or offer the current wired keyboard in wireless version.

Key Command for "Bold" / Helvetica Neue is "Bold Cndenced"...
As the title reads...with Helvetica Neue the command "shift+command+b" is set to bold in my preferences....but with this fond it changes it to condensed bold...as I've read this might be implanted into the font itself......anyone have some ideas how I can set a key command to bold this font?? I have tons of bolding to do .... =(
thanks@Emperor1212 – I bought an additional keyboard with a numeric keypad because of this and because of the problem that I cannot work the enter key to start a script from the JavaScript console in Acrobat Pro (and there is no button for executing code from that console!) without the numeric keypad.
Hm, what else…
One could write a script for changing formatting of a selected text to a specific character style or a specific formatting.
That script could be assigned to a keyboard shortcut.

Logic does not accept key command of Play from a section. Shift Enter makes display flashing.
Another key command is normal.Hi
If you are on a small keyboard (ie with no numbers pad) use FunctionShift Return
or If you are on a 'numbers keyboard', the Enter key is on the right next to the 3 key (and NOT the Return Key).

TrackPoint Keyboard & Numeric Pad don't seem to play nicely
Hi all.
I have just bought a 55Y9003 TrackPoint Keyboard and 33L3225 Numeric KeyPad to replace my ancient (circa 1997) full trackpoint keyboard; which, by the way has been sensational. I was very disappointed to see it leave the product range.
When I connect the new keyboard and numeric pad to my notebook (Dell 620) pressing the NumLock key on the numeric keypad also puts the keyboard into "NumLock" mode, which defeats the purpose of having the Numeric KeyPad.
Does anyone know a fix for this ?
Needless to say it didn't happen with my old trackpoint keyboard, even on the Dell !
Much sadness follows ;-(
RegDid you find a resolution for this?

Non functional alpha numeric pad.
The numeral portion of my alpha numeric pad stopped inputting. Only the numerals don't work other symbols are still functioning. Older iMac Intel, Bluetooth keyboard.
Move this file to the trash can and then reboot and see if the problem is solved. If so remember to delete the test user account. In Lion the library folder is hidden. You have to go to Finder, press and hold the option key and click on Go and then go down to Library. Once in Library click preferences and the move com.apple.keyboardtype.plist to the trash.
