Numeric Progress Meter for "Building Previews"

Hi there,
Before the recent update for Lightroom, I would always see the numeric progress for when it was building standard previews (i.e., Building preview 385 of 400) underneath the upper left icon with the progress bar. However, since the new version from last month, it does not show that anymore. Is there a way to put it back in?

I found it. Clicking on the progress bar itself will show a list of current operations, including a visual progress bar as well as numerical statistic.

  • How do I get the progress meter for QuickTime to show up?

When a QuickTime video is embedded in a page I can play it fine. I just wanted to know if there is a way to get a progress meter to show up to see where in the download the QT video is at. For example, I have a video that is 1:20 and when I go to the webpage I just get the big "Q". I don't know if the page is broken or loading because I have no progress meter. I looked at it in Firefox and it says "Trasferring data ..." in the status bar.
Is there a way to get a progress bar for QuickTime video embedded in a webpage?
    Thank you.

    HI,
*Is there a way to get a progress bar for QuickTime video embedded in a webpage?*
Click one time on the video itself. That should prompt the slider.
Make sure you have QT 7 installed. Go to Applications/Utilities. If you don't see QT 7, insert your SL disc. Open the Optional Installs folder, then open Optional Installs.mpkg
An Installer will start... click Continue. When you get to the Installation Type in the window on the right you will see: Applications. Click the Disclosure triangle so it faces down. Select QuickTime 7 then click Continue.
    Restart your Mac.
If you have QT7 installed then..
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move these files to the Trash.
    com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
    com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist
    See if that helps...

  • Firewire Output for Video Preview Intermittent

I'm experiencing a frustrating problem with After Effects these days.
We're producing some video to be projected, so to see what the final output will really look like, I'm doing video previews using FireWire so output goes directly to the projector.
It's been working great up until yesterday.  Was working fine until I had to restart my Mac.  Upon reboot, my the projector no longer gets any video output.
I've tried restarting numerous times, checked all connections, etc.  Got it working again after several restarts, but after switching over to Photoshop momentarily, the video output once again disappeared.
Any suggestions on how to regain consistent Firewire output for Video Previews?
    My setup:
    After Effects CS6
    Mac Pro
    OSX Version 10.7.5
Firewire Output of my Mac's monitor is going to the Firewire Input on my Sony Media Converter
RCA Video out (Composite video) going to the projector's video input.
    After Effects Video Preview preferences:
    Output Device:  FireWire
    Output Mode: Apple FireWire NTSC

    Thanks for your reply, Rick.
I finally figured it out... I had a background application running called iCam that monitors my security cameras.  I had forgotten that it uses Firewire and was intermittently hogging the resources.  Once I quit that application, everything was good once again.
Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated!

  • Why can't I make Lightroom use all the CPU-Power (all cores) available for generating Previews?

    Dear Lightroom Team,
I've been a Lightroom user since the very first Beta, and I am truly happy with the work you deliver. It changed my way of editing forever, and you guys keep improving it.
Yet there is that one question that bothers me, and that i'm looking for an answer for.
My Workflow has the generate Previews checkbox checked by standard. I usually import between 150 and 2000 photos at once, on occaions it can be up to 5000 photos. Generating Previews always takes a significant amount of time, and Lightroom is only using 25% of my CPU Power while doing so. (using a MacBook Pro 8,2)
I understand the concept, that only using 25% CPU enables me to use the computer while waiting for the Previews. But most of the time I just grab myself a cup of coffee, do the dishes or other stuff, while waiting for the Previews. Usually I rund out of things to do, because it takes ages to Process all the photos. So I would really love to make Lightroom use ALL the cpu power possible.
I'm sure you guys have spent a lot of thoughts while coding this and have a very good answer handy. Looking forward reading it!
    all the best,
    Wolfgang

On my four-year old Windows 7 i7-860 system LR4.4.1 takes ~0.5 sec. per Canon 5D MKII 21Mp raw image to render 'Standard-Sized' previews with LR Catalog Settings 'Standard Preview Size' set to '2048' pixels. I consider that pretty fast!
I usually build 1:1 full-size previews on import, which takes ~5.0 sec. per image. Processor utilization varies between 15-50% for Standard-Sized previews and 15-65% for 1:1 previews. I consider this pretty slow, but it doesn't stop me from working on the images inside LR's Library and Develop modules.
I wait until 'Copy and import photos' has completed and can see Preview Building has started. LR doesn't slow-down much even with the 1:1 preview building going on in the background. Have you tried working in LR during the preview building (i.e. sorting,  rating, keywording, and Develop adjustments)?

  • I want to track progress on my building projects with a tick sheet

    Hi All
I want to use a ticksheet to track progress on my building projects.
I have between 10 and 15 projects running simultaniously, I would like to prepopulate the ticksheet and give the tick a value.
So when waking onto a site i would like to just tick work completed then get a % complete and be able to save/output/print etc. with a date stamp.
    example:
                                  Item value     Total value
    setting out                   =1%          1%
    digging trenches           =2%          3%
    Footing                        =5%          8%
So I will get a grand total% if all ticks are ticked will be 100% if not all ticked the unticked value will be deducted from 100%.
    Hope this makes sense.
    Thank you

You may wish to repost in iOS apps section for Numbers. Most of
what you want seems doable; I am not sure about date stamp but
it may be doable using presence/absence of tick to make date entry
    in a cell.
There are some very capable people answering questions in that
forum who should be able to provide a solution. It will probably
take some setup on your part; but after the initial work, you should be
able to touch a few cells to get the results you desire.

  • PS CS4 Error: Could not build preview because of a disk error

I have been using this version of Photoshop without any problems for about two years, and then I upgraded to OS X Lion last week and now I get a disk error when I try to save a file.  The message says "Photoshop could not build preview because of a disk error".  I tried to save the file to a thumb drive, but I get the same problem.  I believe I also got a scratch disk error one of the times as well.  Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?  I have already downloaded the latest update.  I have tried restarting my computer.  It works ok for a few times after restart but then the error returns.

I guess it could be a coincidence, but since this started happening right after I installed OS X 10.7 I have to think it has something to do with that.  I'll try using the repair disk utility... Don't have a 10.7 disk since i installed from the app store, so not really sure what steps to take.

  • Crashes when building previews

LR keeps crashing when I try to rebuild previews. I had an issue before where I didn't see any thumbnails in the "all photographs" view, and to fix that I created a new catalog. I was able to rebuild previews for several external discs, but one disc kept crashing LR. So I installed that disc internally in my Mac Pro. Still kept crashing on build previews. Then I transferred all the files to a brand new hard drive, still inside my Mac. Whenver I rebuild the previews, the scan completes, and then I get the spinning beach ball, and then crash.
I do have a bunch of crash reports if that helps.
I'm running LR 2.7 on a Mac Pro with OSX 10.6.3. 5GB memory. I've repaired disk permissions on startup disk, and ran DiskWarrior on startup disk as well as the discs that house my photos. I've also run Techtool. In the past I've had issues with LR crashing when building Web galleries.
I would really appreciate suggestions--I've been wresting with this for days and it's very frustrating. Thanks!

More trouble: there's a catalog I can't import. I keep getting an "unkown error." And when I start the import, I'm getting strange previews with backwards text (I'm pretty sure it's instructing me to take hallucinogenic drugs) see below.

  • Progress meter not updating

I have an application that needs to send a query out to a website, retrieve the response, parse out the response, and save the results in a table. To give the user an idea of the progress, I have a progress meter that uses the to-be-processed record count
as the total count and a variable that I increase by one on each iteration as the basis of the progress meter.
This is all pretty basic stuff, but after anywhere from 50 or 60 to a few hundred iterations of maybe 3000 entries, the progress meter simple stops progressing. Windows then thinks the application is not responding, and users' initial response is to
kill the task. If I just leave it alone, however, it will eventually complete and pop up my MsgBox that comes up on completion.
This is nothing new; I have another application that has to import several thousand files from a network drive, importing each to a table housing temporary data, then analyze/process the data and create permanent records in another table. While each file
might take upwards of half a second to process, that still adds up to 10 minutes for 1200 records. Again, the problem is that the progress meter seems to stop somewhere early in the process, and all I can do is wait for a while to find out if it
    completes.
I tried repainting on each iteration, but to no effect.
So...how does one run a busy, repetitive process like this without Windows coming to the conclusion that the application is not responding. O course it is not responding to Windows--it is busy doing what the developer told it to do, and that did not
include pausing so the user can ask if it is still running. And how can I ensure that the progress meter refreshes on each and every iteration (even if it has to slow down or pause processing long enough to repaint at least the progress meter)?

I tried repainting on each iteration, but to no effect.
    Hi Brian,
    Yes, Bruce is right!
You need a DoEvents in every loop that increases the current counter.

  • Frozen "Building Previews

I always have previews building. When I go into the active monitor, I have an activity :" Updating Library" it is " Building Previews" and no matter how long I give it, it is 376 remaining. Been going on for who knows how long. A lot of times I will cancel it, but I can not pause the task. Any idea as to how to get it to finish, or what. I have a larger library, 47gb at last count.

same for me. since i import 15 new pictures, my mac build previews for hours. i did not update anything before. also some pictures that i imported before are now grey.
    some ideas?

  • How to stop Aperture from building previews?

    Hi,
How can I stop Aperture 2.1 from building previews each time I make a change to a photo?
I have unselected everything under preferences/previews and I have deleted all previews for this library, but still it's building them again.
    Thanks,
    JO

I have the 1.5 book, and have the 2.0 book on order. Hopefully, it is being updated for 2.1, but no problem if it isn't.
I tried 1.5 (I think) but didn't like it and started using Lightroom, and have been with Lightroom since its beginning. I am now running Lightroom 1.3.1, Lightroom 2 BETA 1, and Aperture 2.1. As a matter of fact, I am importing all of my existing images into Aperture as I type this. Even with the advancements of Lightroom, I find navigating and working with Aperture to be a more efficient, enjoyable matter.
I can't wait to see what's next for Aperture, especially in response to some new features in Lightroom 2.

  • File Filter with wait cursor/progress meter

    Hi all:
In my application I'm doing some file filtering that not only looks at file extention, but also parses the file for information. As a result this can take quite a while if there are a lot of files to filter. Does anyone know if it's possible to change to a wait cursor during the filtering process? Or better yet, attach a progress meter to the filtering process?

Correct, but Why, thank you, really ;-)
well, pass along a reference of the calling object to
the thread and have it provide a setBusy() and
setReady() method - that's what I did. I'd have the
    FileFiltering thread provide a method
getCompletionRate() or sg like that and so the caller
can handle the progress meter. This all happens from within Sun's BasicDirectoryModel. I can't seem to find anyway to touch the thread from outside of the BasicDirectoryModel, and I can't seem to find a way to change the BasicDirectoryModel to a custom model of my own (One that would in the simple case put a wait cursor at the beginning of the filter loop, and normal cursor at the end)

  • Popup Key LOV, NULL and "Invalid numeric value undefined for column"

    Hello.
I've created an item based on database column of NUMBER type and set the following properties:
Display As = Popup Key LOV (Displays description, returns key value)
    List of values definition=select 'display_value' d, 1 r from dual
    Null display value=%
    Null return value=
    Display Null=Yes
When I select "%" in the LOV and try to apply changes to database I get error:

If I set Display As = Select List, all works fine. But I need Popup Key LOV.
    Could anybody help me?
    I use Application Express 2.2.1.00.04

    Hi all,
I did my homework and solved this issue. First I would like to thank Patrick Wolf for the invaluable help he gives out on thread Re: Null value handling in LOVs The code presented here is just a minor edit to his code, but an essential one when dealing with Popup Key LOV items.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Create an Application Process.
    Name: RemoveNulls
    Sequence: 0
Point: On Submit: After Page Submission - Before Computations and Validations
    Process Text:
    BEGIN
        FOR rItem IN
          ( SELECT ITEM_NAME
              FROM APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_ITEMS
             WHERE APPLICATION_ID   = TO_NUMBER(:APP_ID)
               AND PAGE_ID          IN (TO_NUMBER(:APP_PAGE_ID), 0)
               AND LOV_DISPLAY_NULL = 'Yes'
               AND LOV_DEFINITION   IS NOT NULL
               AND LOV_NULL_VALUE   IS NULL
        LOOP
            IF (V(rItem.ITEM_NAME) = '%null' || '%' OR V(rItem.ITEM_NAME) = 'undefined')
            THEN
                Apex_Util.set_session_state(rItem.ITEM_NAME, NULL);
            END IF;
        END LOOP;
    END;Error Message: #SQLERRM#Condition: None
    2. You should be able to submit a Popup Key LOV with a NULL value now.
Once again, THANKS, Patrick! You rock! I'm seriously thinking of trying ApexLib now :)

  • After updating to the latest version of Firefox on my Mac there is no progress bar for the page load. I really miss this feature and can't seem to find a way to obtain it.

The page load progress bar that was on the lower right of the window is no longer there. After updating to the latest version of Firefox on my Mac there is no progress bar for the page load. I really miss this feature and can't seem to find a way to obtain it. The tab has a circular progress wheel but this is useless for determining a stuck or slow loading page.
PLEASE NOTE: I am typing this in from a Windows based work computer but am asking about my Apple MacBook Pro that i use at home.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
