Numeric section of keyboard
My keyboard works fine except for the Apple Keyboard (numeric) section to the right. Addition and subtraction keys work, but no numeric response. Ideas?
I believe I solved my own issue, as the author of the message above. I found the following info from 2007 that worked for me. Good Luck.

Always show numeric line above keyboard
Hi,
Does anybody know where can I set my blackberry to always show the keyboard with numeric keys?
Defalut:
Wished (not just with password fields, but everywhere):
Thank you!
Solved!
Go to Solution. There are no settings in keyboard and languages for for including the number bar.
Wouldn't be practical, with the action bar above that it would take up more than half the screen. -
Some Lightroom keyboard shortcuts, e.g. color labels recognize the numeric keypad on my windows pc. When I press 6 it sets the color label to red. According to the keyboard shortcut guide, pressing Shift then a number key should set the color label and move to the next photo. Instead, when pressing a number on the number keypad it recognizes Shift + 6 as a directional arrow, as printed on the key below the '6' and simply moves to the next photo without setting a color label on the first photo. The same applies to the 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 keys on the keypad. They all have a directional function associated with them.
I do not have this problem when pressing Shift + a number key along the top of my keyboard. These combinations work as expected.
Does anyone know how I change the number keypad to behave the same as the number keys at the top of my keyboard?
Thanks - MichaelTry booting the fallback kernel, there is a problem with the AHCI driver concerning new Macbooks. When you've booted, add ata_generic to the modules in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and rebuild the initrd with mkinitcpio -p kernel26.

Hello,
As my Alias says it, I am new to Mac. I purchased an external keyboard which has a numeric keypad. The MacBook and the external keyboard have the French Canadian layout.
When I use the numeric keypad, the comma/period key defaults to comma. To get a period (i.e. decimal point) I have to use Shift+[,] or [CapsLock]+[,]. Is it possible to set the default action to a period and the alternate action to comma?
Thank youThank you for the tip.
And unfortunately you were right. I tried many keyboard configurations and none would give me the period without loosing the french Canadian keyboard layout. Another funny thing is that the caculator will accept either the comma or the the period as the decimal separator. In Spotlight only the period is valid as a decimal separator.
Maybe this should be a feauture request for an upcoming keyboard driver update. -
Why is my numeric keyboard not working on windows 7 via boot camp?
What ever I use the numeric keypad on the Apple Wired Keyboard on Windows 7 boot camp. It does not work. I have to use the number on the above of my letter case part. I tried using the numeric keys on calculator or games. It functions more like fn, home, page down, page up. WTH? Why is it functioning like the keys between the numeric keypad and keyboard? The drivers installed just fine and I got all the windows updates along with apple updates. I even went to keyboard options in boot camp control panel and it still does not work.
Here is your answer - just found it on MacRumors as I was experiencing the same problem. Ready - got a pen and pencil available: Hit "Clear" lol, yup, that is your on off button for the numeric pad. :-) Be sure to share with others.
The "Clear" Button is located above the number 7. 65431354684318643516879 <---- numerica keypad fun. -
My computer is password protected, but for some reason, the letters in the keyboard are not responding. I press the "Caps lock" button and the "num lock" button and they seem to operate fine and the mouse is also working properly, but it seems like the letters are locked and won't input.
Please helpHit the num lock button again. Num lock forces only the numeric keypad underlying keys to work as a numeric keypad, and the rest of the keyboard won't work. Unfortunately Apple stopped including the numeric keypad hidden keyboard key labels on its keyboards. They used to include them. They are known as mouse keys: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/cdb_moskys.html

Maximising windows and important Keyboard Shortcuts in Mountain Lion
Hi - just two questions related to the behaviour of Mac OS X Mountain Lion.
When you minimise a window in Mac OS X, it shrinks down and sits next to the trash. When you want to access it again, you simply click on it and it is maximised again. Can anyone explain to me why, when I have multiple windows open and one minimised, Mac OS X does not always present me with the minimised window when I click on it in the dock? It flicks to another window. This mainly happens when I'm using Word for Mac. To clarify, say I have documents A, B and C open. A and B are both maximised with A at the front and C is minimised. When I click on C to maximise it, there is a short delay and suddenly B appears at the front. So OS X doesn't even take me back to the document I was just viewing, but the random document that just happened to be open in the background. Frustrating enough when I only have three documents open - I'm often using many more and the problem is even more noticeable.
Another frustration I have is not being able to browse quickly between document windows. Windows has a convenient Ctrl+Tab function that allows you to flick between all open windows. OS X has a poor imitation which only allows switching between windows of different applications. If I want to switch between windows of the same application, Cmd+Tab will not allow me to do this. Is there another keyboard shortcut in Mac OS X that will? In previous versions of OS X, I resigned myself to using expose to account for the lack of this function, but now with mission control, all windows are clumped together according to their application - a nice organisational idea in theory perhaps, but rendering mission control completely useless for the functions which expose provided. What am I meant to do if I just happen to want to access the seventh document window that I have open? Mission control shows me barely a sliver of the window's border and no detail of the content whatsoever.
Are there solutions to these problems that inhibit workflow so badly? Are there a whole range of window-switching functions which I simply do not know of? Surely such awkwardness was not what mac is aiming for when designing Moutain Lion.
Any advice much appreciated. You can choose to not minimize windows into the app in the Dock System prefs. That will leave it in the Dock as a separate window.
You can cycle between application windows using cmd-`, however they don't cycle to minimized windows.
On a US keyboard, that key is right above the tab key. It is in various other places on other keyboard layouts.
You can change the shortcut in the Keyboard & Text Input section of Keyboard Shortcuts (Keyboard System Prefs). I believe you used to be able to cycle through Minimized windows, but someone decided you minimized them to get them out of the way and removed them from the cycling.
About the only way is to activate Application Exposé and then arrow down to the minimized windows.
When a window is highlighted, you can hit the space bar to "Qucicklook" the window. The Arrow keys will then cycle between minimized windows. -
How do I set up Keyboard shortcuts to match Windows Excel?
At work I use MS Excel on Windows and I use the keyboard shortcuts a lot.
eg. Alt+= for sum the cells above
Alt+I, Alt+R for insert a row
Alt+D for downfill
How do I set this up on iWork numbers?
Also, where could I go to find out how to do this on MS Excel 2008 for Mac?
Thanks,As Yvan said, it is in the help files. The procedure is
1) Open System Preferences and navigate to the Keyboard section then keyboard shortcuts.
2) Hit the + to add a new shortcut
3) Having it apply to All Applications is the default. You may want to use that because otherwise you'll have to do this once for Numbers and once for Excel. On the other hand, it might screw up an existing shortcut in another application if you are using a key combination assigned to something else in that application.
4) Type in the menu title EXACTLY as it is in the menu. Capitalization and punctuation are important. You don't need to put Insert/Function/Sum, just Sum.
5) Choose a key combination. Note that some key combinations cannot be reassigned. For instance, Alt+ (actually this is Option=) does not work; it inserts a not equal to symbol. Nor does Command+ (Command=) because it is assigned by Numbers to something else. Control+ will work. You can, however, make a different shortcut for the existing Command= shortcut (Format/Font/Bigger) so there is no conflict.
6) Click Add.

Capture ENTER key on numeric keypad
I have several chemistry tutorials where users type something and then have it evaluated by pressing the ENTER key. This works fine for the ENTER key on the main part of the keyboard, but does not work for the ENTER key for the numeric keypad on keyboards with the two ENTER keys. How do I capture the ENTER key on the numeric keypad? In other words, how do I do the equivalent of the following for that key?
if the key = RETURN then

InCopy Paragraph Style Keyboard Short cut errors
I am using CS 6 and have found the following in InCopy:
I create short cuts for my paragraph and character styles on my Mac OS. For example "CMD" + "1" sets Paragraph style to "Intoduction."
I open the file on my PC also running InCopy CS 6 instead of the keyboard short cuts becoming "CTRL" + "1" for paragraph style "Introduction" as happens with InDesign they keyboard short cuts become something seemingly random, in may case "CTRL" + "S"
As InCopy doesn't support non-numeric characters for keyboard shortcuts these short cuts no longer work. I have tried the same process using InDesign files and here the keyboard short cuts went from "CMD" + "1" for the paragraph style "Introduction" to "CTRL" + "1." Is this a known issue or have I made a mistake along the way?
Regards,
Luis LeonWell then, if it walks like a duck…
I’ll see if I can duplicate it here when I have some time. -
Keyboard Shortcut To Get Contextual Menu
Does anyone know a way to configure a keystroke to pop up the contextual menu on the selected item instead of control-clicking?
I'm trying to eliminate as much use of the mouse as possible when interacting with my Mac.
ThanksThere actually is an answer to this--sort of. I presume you have already started investigating the System Prefs section on Keyboard & Mouse, Keyboard Shortcuts and turned on the Full Keyboard Access so you can navigate with the Keyboard.
There is in addition the Universal Access pref pane. In the Mouse section you can turn on Mouse Keys--and Control-5 is a control-click and will bring up the contextual menu. Use System Prefs Help, search on Mouse Keys for more info.
Just fooling around with this a little bit but couldn't really get the hang of moving the mouse around--it kept "popping back" to the beginning spot rather than staying somewhere (among other problems). And I couldn't figure out how to get it to work with keyboard access either. There's probably more info about this somewhere.

My keyboard switches languages while I'm typing...
I only have two languages set as keyboards (British and German) but when I´m typing with the British keyboard, it switches to German.
Not the most frustrating problem, but it´s a bit aggravating to find out you´ve been typing things like -Reallz_ thatäs so neatö Iäll have to trz it sometime-.....
Any suggestions? You might try to see whether or not you have key commands set up that allow the computer to move from the one language to the other. In other words, look under the System Preferences at the Keyboard settings. Under the section titled Keyboard and Text Input, you will see check boxes for "Select the previous input source" and "Select the next input source". To the right of these lines are the key combinations that allow you to change the language of the keyboard. If you use the key combination for either of these two items, you will change the language. It can be easy to do this accidentally in typing. Either uncheck these two items so that keystrokes do not activate an unwanted language, or highlight the keystrokes next to the checked items and then put in a key combination that you will only hit purposefully, such first hold down the three keys for shift, control, command simultaneously and then hit the = key. Such a key combination of four keys is probably unlikely to be hit accidently while typing. My setting for "Select the previous input source" is set to option and space, but I find I sometimes bump this combination while typing, and I think the default for OS X is command and the space bar, which might be even worse.

Me and the people over in the Facebook group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=485676600120&ref=ts wondered if the Dvorak standard is going to be supported in the iOS 4? And I was also wondering if it's going to be possible to choose which language to spell check in independent of the keyboard. As I'm trilingual and use all three languages on a daily basis it's kind of annoying to switch back and forth. Especially since the French keyboard is the AZERTY standard..
I noticed that Dvorak is available in the "hardware keyboard" section of keyboard settings in iOS 4. I don't know what that means. (Maybe you can use Dvorak with a physical keyboard? If that is the case, that is ridiculous.) Anyway, I'm very disappointed that iOS 4 doesn't have phone-wide support for Dvorak.
I have been using an app called "Dvorak" (by DK Digital Media, purchased from the App store for $0.99) and have loved it. In iOS 4, it comes up and then the system's QWERTY keyboard overlays the Dvorak keyboard! I have sent a message to DK Digital Media telling them how much I love the app and wish they could upgrade it to work with iOS 4. If anybody else has enjoyed this app in 3.1.3, I hope you could do the same. Give them a push, and they might fix it. Similarly, I have hounded Apple feedback about this. -
Help!!! three numeric control three booleans
Hi guys, I really need your help. I am currently creating a program where I can select the button keys (A-Z and 0-9) from three numeric and use keyboard in order to turn the 3 individual respective booleans on to light up. I am working for a while now. Here's my program:

SelectKeyDownUp.vi 11 KBSorry for not being specific. I am still a newbie in this. The program will run like this. When I select 'a' from the numeric list and i press on the keyboard key 'a' , the unlit boolean will light up. When i press 'a' again, the lit boolean will unlight. While the program is still running, i still can select different key like '5' and the different key '5' will still toggle it when i pressed it. The three numeric and three booleans act accordingly. Here another similar program i also worked on it but it can only use the other keys. I need to select A-Z and 0-9. I just need it to light up.

Where the Adobe Designer PDF Form "Default Locale" read from?
I am designing PDF form using Adobe Designer. I have set the "Default Locale" in the Edit -> Form Properties. I have set the Display Pattern of numeric field to ZZZ,ZZZ,ZZ9.99. Based on locale, Adobe should format the numeric field accordingly. So wh
