Numerical keypad not functioning in Windows partition of Boot Camp

Unlike other users, the new keyboard is working fine in Windows -- mostly. Any ideas on why the numerical keypad on the far right isn't working? Is there a "Num Lock" key that I need to press when on the Windows side? If so: where? Can't find it on the keyboard.
Also: does anyone know if one of the software applications (Parallels or VM Wave Fusion 2) is able to mediate these hardware issues?

  • Why is my numeric keyboard not working on windows 7 via boot camp?

What ever I use the numeric keypad on the Apple Wired Keyboard on Windows 7 boot camp. It does not work. I have to use the number on the above of my letter case part. I tried using the numeric keys on calculator or games. It functions more like fn, home, page down, page up. WTH? Why is it functioning like the keys between the numeric keypad and keyboard? The drivers installed just fine and I got all the windows updates along with apple updates. I even went to keyboard options in boot camp control panel and it still does not work.

Here is your answer - just found it on MacRumors as I was experiencing the same problem. Ready - got a pen and pencil available: Hit "Clear" lol, yup, that is your on off button for the numeric pad. :-) Be sure to share with others.
The "Clear" Button is located above the number  7. 65431354684318643516879 <---- numerica keypad fun.

  • I'm trying to create a Windows partition using Boot Camp. An error comes up telling me that I need to reformat my current partition(s) into one single partition. However, it's already formatted in the correct format, and is already a single partition.

As made clear in the title:

My computer recently had a kernel panic, which apparently the corruption was in the system and needed to be erased and re-installed. I have a complete back-up using an external hard drive, and I am definitely not willing to do another one of those to reformat a partition that is already singular. I restarted the computer after ejecting my back-up, and after turning off time machine (thinking that boot camp was recognizing it as a secondary partition), however the error still occurs.
Is there any way to get around this?

map -hosts on /net (autofs, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse)
map auto_home on /home (autofs, automounted, nobrowse)
/dev/disk1 on /Volumes/Windows7 (udf, local, nodev, nosuid, read-only, noowners)
From my very basic knowledge - it still looks as if there is only one partition (not including the windows 7 CD necessary to install the windows partition).

  • Time Capsule issue with backing up Windows partition via Boot Camp

I just bought the macbook pro and time capsule. I set up a 25GB Windows partition using Boot Camp and I have set up a Time Capsule to handle the backups. Time Capsule seems to backup the OSX hard drive partition fine, with the historical versions of the drive displayed correctly. However, with the Windows partition the Time Capsule appears to be backing up any files that change, however there is no version control showing up in Time Machine. In other words, I ONLY see the Windows partitioned drive as backed up in the "Today (Now)" screen. Any historical dates the drive shows up shaded and I cannot access it. Is there a way for Time Machine to manage the Windows partition in the same way as it does for MAC OSX drives?
    John

    Why is it so hard?
1000 and 1 times: the drive must have FREE contiguous unfragmented space and some files are blocking and preventing.
Some are able to find and delete, some by booting from another hard drive or OS X DVD to repair and/or run iDefrag.
    Or.... backup; erase; and restore.
ie, CLONE your hard drive in both directions. My choice would be SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. They tend to work. Defrag tends to be slow and if there is no backup and there is an error.... well, you'll find out.
Apple error message is badly and poorly worded. Said so for over 3 yrs and it has not changed or improved though.
Paragon CampTune 9.5 $19 is great for Boot Camp. And resizing. And Windows 7 may need 2 or 3x what the base minimums listed. 32-48GB at least to be safe. And those are conservative numbers.

TTBOMK the only way you can increase the Windows partition is to repartition the drive back to a single partition
    Then reinstall Mountain Lion
    Restore all data from backup
Create new larger partition with Boot Camp
    Install Windows
    Restore data from backup

  • Not all free disk space available for windows partition in Boot Camp

    Hi,
I want to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp on my MacBook (2009, Mavericks OS, BootCamp Assistant 5.1.2) and unfortunately it has been a huge struggle until now to achieve that. The whole reason for this is that I had Windows XP as the second OS on my MacBook, but I wanted to increase the Windows partition with Disk Utility. Unfortunately this permanently damaged my Windows partition so I couldn't use it anymore.
What I did next? I decided to delete the old Windows XP (which isn't supported anymore by Mavericks) with Disk Utility, which afterwards tells me that I have 1 partition left: The Mac partition.
From there on I wanted to install Windows 7 with the newer Boot Camp. The problem is that in fact Finder tells me that my Macintosh HD has 58,54 Gb free space, so I would like to assign at lease 30 Gb to the to-be Windows partition. However, Boot Camp only gives me the option to assign 20 until 24 Gb, other values I can't assign.
Can anyonetell me why this happens or what could be the problem? I need to have more than 24 Gb available for my Windows as this was the whole reason why I once wanted to increase my old Windows partition, that's where all the problems came from.
I appreciate your help, thank you!
Here is what Disk Utility tells about my partitions:

  • Can not install a Windows ISO in Boot Camp

I created a partition for Boot Camp and I am ready to install Windows. Downloaded a trial Windows 7 ISO from MS and copied to a flash drive. Boot Camp does not recognize the ISO and is looking for an installation disk. How can I Install the downloaded ISO?

    Hi NCMau,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are trying to install Windows using Bootcamp on your Apple computer. I understand you are using a trial version of Windows as well. To install Windows via Bootcamp on your Apple computer, Windows must be the full version. Please refer to the attached article for further information.
Mac Basics: Using Windows on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support
    Requirements
To use Boot Camp, you need:
An Intel-based Mac with a built-in keyboard, external USB keyboard, or an Apple supplied wireless keyboard, and a built-in trackpad, USB mouse, USB trackpad, or Apple supplied wireless mouse or trackpad.
Mac OS X v10.5 or later.
The latest firmware updates available for your Mac.
Boot Camp Assistant, which is located in /Applications/Utilities/ . You can also open Launchpad and type Boot Camp Assistant in the search field.
A DVD or downloaded (ISO) "full version" of Windows installation media. Boot Camp does not include Windows.
For additional requirements, see Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • Numeric keypad not recognized by Window 7

I have installed Windows 7 on my iMac using Boot Camp.
Everything is working as it should except the numeric keypad. The numbers across the top of the keyboard work, but I really want the numeric keypad to be functional.
    Thanks

Usually using the 'Clear'-key (the one directly above the '7'-key in the Numeric Pad) activates the Numeric Pad.

  • How do I remove the Windows partition? Boot Camp Assistant does not allow me to select the remove option.

I am using an iMac, 8.1, early 2008. I installed Windows XP at that time. I am now using OS 10.8.5 and want to remove the Windows partition to free up disk space. Boot Camp Assistant does not allow me to select the "install or remove" option. How can I get rid of the Windows partition?

You can try removing it in Disk Utility.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Open Disk Utility and select the drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list.
    2. Click on the Partition tab in the Disk Utility main window. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. Select the bottom rectangle/partition. Click on the Delete [-] button below the sizing window to remove it. Click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
    4. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for the remaining partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and drag it all the way down to the bottom. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a restored single volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.

  • Is it possible to use an external hard drive as the windows partition with boot camp?

I am looking to get a Macbook Pro adn was researchin the different software advantages over PC and found a program called oot Camp that allows you to run Windows on your Mac. I thought that this was interesting as it was sort of the best of both worlds. I wanted to know from people who have used this before: How well does it work? Does it slow down the computer at any noticable rate? Etc.
The last question that Ive been trying to find an answer to, but have no conclusive results, is wether you are able to select the partition as an external hard drive or not. Also how it affects your ability to use an external drive as well. Answers are much apreciated, thank you.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp is an application that emulates a BIOS so you can install Windows on a second volume on your hard drive. It can't be installed on an external disk because Windows can't be installed on an external hard drive. It works well if you need performance

  • Apple wireless Mighty Mouse not working in Windows XP Pro/Boot Camp

I was able to get Windows XP Pro to install successfully on my new iMac, but I can only get a wired Microsoft USB mouse to work with it. When I boot to WinXP with just my wireless Mighty Mouse, the wireless mouse is completely unresponsive. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a solution? Thanks!

  • How to erase Windows partition with Boot Camp

I used Boot camp to create windowsXP partition, but windows got corrupted and I want to go back to zero by having boot camp erase the windows partition. The boot camp instruction setup guide says to open boot camp assistant, Introduction window and click on the third category " Restore the startup disk to a single volume". However, when I open Boot Camp Assistant there is no Introduction window as shown in the printed guide. Where do I find this so I can restore to a single volume again?
iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Try downloading the brand new Boot Camp version that Apple just posted within the past week (1.1.2 IIRC). Install the new version and it should give you the introduction screen again where you can remove the Windows partition.

FYI anyone watching this thread, I just installed ML over my SL/Win7 bootcamped setup and it worked fine, still boots into Win7.
Mac was set up to boot into Win7 by default BEFORE running ML update.

Well if there is a EFI block, then running a program in OS X isn't going to do a lick of good.
After all EFI was designed for Trusted Computing and Digital Rights Management, to act between the OS and hardware, can read drives, contact the Internet and everything.
Windows doesn't use EFI, will have UEFI in Windows 8 though.
