Numlock no longer locked

My numeric keypad has somehow gotten turned off. The clear, =, /, *, -, +, and enter keys all work. But pressing the number keys do nothing. Pressing the 0 (zero) key locks up the active application.
I do not think the keyboard itself is to blame because I have a spare one and when I have it plugged in, I observe the same problem with the same keys.
I also tried plugging the keyboards into a USB bus on the computer instead of the one on the Apple Cinema Display but that did not solve the problem.
I read somewhere that the shift-clear key combo may toggle the numlock function, but it seems to do nothing in my case.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hey Donne Lee Dom
how this story end? I am having the same problem. And if I do use the numlock numberkeys, all othrer keys and the left button of my mouse freeze. Only a forced Quit of the finder will help.

I have OnyX. Nifty tool! However, I ran maintenance

this had no effect on these bothersome number keys at
all.

  • Screensaver No Longer Locking With Password

Since upgrading to 10.4.8, the screensaver no longer locks out by requiring a password. As soon as the mouse or keyboard is hit the screensaver closes and lets the user in. A password panel is supposed to pop up, but it doesn't. Yes, I do have "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver" enabled in "Security" preferences, and I don't have any special Energy Saver preferences set. Any ideas?

This is a known issue and apple is working on a resolution. I opened a bug report and this is what I got back from the developers:

My pavilion dv4-1070 got stuck on a blank screen and numlock and caps lock LED are blinking... it happens when i update the BIOS.. please help... thanks

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue with the notebook giving you a black screen. I also noticed you said only the NumLock and Caps lock is blinking.
Now, the BIOS update could have because this but we won't know until you let me know how many times the LED blinks.
Here is a chart which will tell us what's causing the issue.
Please let me know the outcome.

  • My phone screen no longer locks when I put my phone to my cheek when answering or making a call making it so I constantly press buttons like hold or mute or even end. I've hung up on my boss several times. How do I fix it!

Please help my figure out how to make it so that my phone screen will lock when I put it to my check. The auto black out stopped working not to long after I downloaded the ios7

Is the phone in a case?  Try taking it out of the case.  If that doesn't work, then your proximity sensor is broken.  You'll need to bring your phone to Apple for evaluation.

  • X220 - swapping numlock and scroll lock

    Hello,
does anybody know, how to swap these both keys? I've searched the registry, but I haven't found anything... Ideal state would be just change the values - in a result numlock would be turned on by pressing "scrlk" key, and scroll lock would be turned on by "fn+scrlk". Num lock would help me a lot, since I don't use Excel very often.
I would be very glad for all suggestions!
Thank You and wish a nice day!
    Skrble

    Try KeyTweak.
    I can't confirm Fn+keys combinations remapping capability.

Does your notebook boot into Windows?
You never stated exactly what the problem is besides that you have blinking leds. Please elaborate.

  • Why is my ipad smart cover case no longer locking my ipad

I have an ipad 3 and an apple smart case for it.  It use to work great, but now for some reason when I close the cover it does not lock my ipad.  In fact when I manually lock my ipad and close the cover it unlocks.  Anyone know why  I rebooted my ipad and am still having the same issue.  Thanks.

Just to be sure, go to Settings>General>iPad Cover lock/Unlock>On.
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.

  • Cannot "LOCK" System Preferences any longer???

OK, this just started, I can no long lock any of the system perf's. When I press the lock the window flashes (say's 'De-authenticating' ) very fast and returns to the unlocked state. Logging in as 'Root' or 'Admin' makes no difference. Everything seems to work fine I just cannot lock anything.... any suggestions???

..."Logging in as 'Root' or 'Admin' makes no difference."...
If you happened to have run "repair permissions" on your 10.5 drive while booted into 10.4 (or while using eg. "DiskWarrior"), that would have resulted in changes to permissions that are incompatible with 10.5. One of the consequences is that some user processes may end up running as "root", which might account for there being no difference between logging in as "root" and "admin". The "root" account is meant to be authorized to make most changes through "System Preferences" without being required to authenticate, so it may not be possible to close the "Lock" when "System Preferences" is running as "root".
If the above describes your situation, unfortunately, the tools currently provided with 10.5 will not fix this problem automatically -- specifically, "repair permissions" in 10.5 doesn't repair the permissions that are causing the problem. If you are an experienced user, you can fix the permissions manually (using the output from a "verify permissions" run conducted while booted in 10.5 as a guide to determine what changes are required).
For most users, an "archive and install" may be the easiest solution. It should be acceptable to preserve user and network settings.
This issue could potentially pose a serious security issue. I think Apple needs to fix this quickly, and at the very least, post a support article describing the specific symptoms and warning of the dangers.

  • [SOLVED]Switching Caps Lock with Shift_L

I have a broken left shift key, and it's a bit of a pain to type with. I often use an external keyboard, so this doesn't always bother me, but when I take my laptop with me somewhere, I would like to be able to quickly swap Caps and Left Shift. For a while, I've done that like this:
    xmodmap -e "keycode 66 = Shift_L NoSymbol Shift_L"
But xmodmap is deprecated, and causing problems with qt5 applications, so I want to ditch it and do the same thing with setxbmap instead. Now, xkb is really nice, it is full of built in options for common remaps, and a quick look around shows my I can use any one of these to change how caps lock works:
grp:caps_switch Caps Lock (while pressed), Alt+Caps Lock does the original capslock action
    grp:caps_toggle Caps Lock
    grp:shift_caps_toggle Shift+Caps Lock
grp:shift_caps_switch Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout)
    grp:alt_caps_toggle Alt+Caps Lock
    lv3:caps_switch Caps Lock
lv3:caps_switch_latch Caps Lock chooses 3rd level, acts as onetime lock when pressed together with another 3rd-level-chooser
    ctrl:nocaps Caps Lock as Ctrl
ctrl:swapcaps Swap Ctrl and Caps Lock
    grp_led:caps Caps Lock
    caps Caps Lock key behavior
caps:internal Caps Lock uses internal capitalization. Shift "pauses" Caps Lock
caps:internal_nocancel Caps Lock uses internal capitalization. Shift doesn't affect Caps Lock
caps:shift Caps Lock acts as Shift with locking. Shift "pauses" Caps Lock
caps:shift_nocancel Caps Lock acts as Shift with locking. Shift doesn't affect Caps Lock
caps:capslock Caps Lock toggles normal capitalization of alphabetic characters
caps:numlock Make Caps Lock an additional Num Lock
caps:swapescape Swap ESC and Caps Lock
caps:escape Make Caps Lock an additional ESC
caps:backspace Make Caps Lock an additional Backspace
caps:super Make Caps Lock an additional Super
caps:hyper Make Caps Lock an additional Hyper
caps:shiftlock Caps Lock toggles Shift so all keys are affected
    caps:none Caps Lock is disabled
caps:ctrl_modifier Make Caps Lock an additional Control but keep the Caps_Lock keysym
    compose:caps Caps Lock
compose:caps-altgr 3rd level of Caps Lock
    shift:breaks_caps Shift cancels Caps Lock
shift:both_capslock Both Shift-Keys together toggle Caps Lock
shift:both_capslock_cancel Both Shift-Keys together activate Caps Lock, one Shift-Key deactivates
None of those allow me to use caps lock as a normal shift. I'm trying to figure out how to rebind caps to work as a shift, but I want to have this in a script so that my external keyboard will stick with its default behavior, and I can just type "fixshift" when I unplug it. Basically, just manually switch the two with setxkbmap the way I did with xmodmap. Out of a long while searching, and /only/ finding advice to use one of the default options, and none on making my own, I've decided to come here.
    Any help, Arch-friends?
Last edited by Kebertx (2013-10-31 09:10:14)

For the record, here's my solution:
This creates a custom key symbol to swap Caps and Shift:
    /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/custom
    partial modifier_keys
    xkb_symbols "swapcaps" {
    replace key <CAPS> { [ Shift_L ] };
    replace key <LFSH> { [ Caps_Lock ] };
This script prints a description of the keymap, adds the symbol to swap the two keys from that other file to the right line, and writes the new description to a temporary file... then compiles it!
    /usr/local/bin/fixshift
    #!/usr/bin/bash
    setxkbmap -print | sed '/xkb_symbols/ { s/"/+custom(swapcaps)"/2 }' > /tmp/fixshift
    xkbcomp /tmp/fixshift $DISPLAY > /dev/null 2>&1 &
Then I just set that program to run every time lightdm starts a session:
    /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
    display-setup-script=/usr/local/bin/fixshift
    greeter-setup-script=/usr/local/bin/fixshift
    session-setup-script=/usr/local/bin/fixshift
And nothing more to it. Life is grand again.

  • How come the switch user option is missing from my lock screen?

I upgrade to Lion my iMac Core 2 Duo and now when I lock the screen the switch user option is missing from the lock screen, you just have to cancel o renter as the original user, so that if another member of my family wants to switch and use the mac he or she cannot do it.
This is what I am talking about (image taken from a lion review): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/134544/forum/Schermata%2007-2455766%20alle%2011.05.12.pn g
The switch user option is totaly absent, I just have the cancel.
It that a bug or what?
Please note this happens only when I lock the screen from the screensaver, i.e. requesting the password to restart from the screensaver, if I get to the login windows all users appears correctly and people can switch back and forth.
    Thank you.

I just talked to apple support.  They said Lion doesn't support this feature.  They gave me a work-around, which was to disable requiring a password in the screen saver.  Then enable user switching so it appears in the top right of the banner.  Note that since the screen saver no longer locks the screen, in order to actually lock the screen the user must click on the upper right user list and select something like "Login user...".
This issue has left me disappointed with apple for a few reasons.  Hopefully someone at apple will take note:
    1. Apple removed a useful feature.
    2. Apple did not provide a response to this thread which would have been the best forum to inform users of this change.  It would have saved me and apple one long phone call.

  • Windows 8.1 pro client on a Windows server 2012 R2 Essentials domain, how to change lock when idle?

    Hi,
I need to find out how to do something?
I have Windows 8.1 pro running on my PC and its part of a domain which is Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials, it all runs perfectly except for a little niggle where my Win 8.1 PC locks after its not used for a short time.  What I want to find out is
how to change this so it no longer locks when idle?  I know this is a security feature but as its just my home pc it can be very annoying to log in again after walking away from the PC for a few min's.
I've had a look through the default domain policy but there are so many settings that I can't find it, that's even if there is a setting there?
    Anyway can anyone help?
    Thanks

    Hi,
We can try to implement by use High performance power plan or GPO to prevent computer from locking down:
    Refer to the solution here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0863112d-ee54-4808-9d27-0380d7bf04b0/gpo-to-disable-lock-computer-?forum=winserverGP
Also, you can check if there is any task scheduled for idle:

  • Lumia coming to life after its locked

    Hi.
First post so be gentle as I'm not sure that this has been covered. I bought a Nokia Lumia, and suffered from the battery issue. I've just been given a replacement, and all is good.
However, when I lock the homescreen after about 5 minutes the phone comes back to life and plays a Nokia Demo video. There's no sound, but it is annoying as it keeps doing it out of the corner of my eye. It also means that the phone is no longer locked, so if this happens when its in my pocket I could accidentally do something I dont want to.
Has anyone else experienced this, and found a solution?
    Many thanks

    Morning all.
Well, you asked for an update, so here it is.
After 3 Customer support got in touch via Twitter, I got a confirmation text through which a reference number.
However, I dont know if they were trying to fix the problem remotely or something, but now the phone resets itself every evening, removing my numbers, photos..and text messages and replacing them with the demo ones.
So I havent got the reference number any more.
Notwithstanding that, I still havent heard from anyone "real" from 3 about this issue, and now its Christmas I seriously doubt that I will hear anything until the New Year (even though 3 Customer Services are based in India but there you go...)
So, that will be in total, me having the phone for 2 weeks, being repaired for 3 weeks, and having a demo model for another 3 weeks (if they dont get back until the New Year). I obviously cant use the camera or anything to take pics of my 3 year olds first Christmas that she understands, because it randomly resets itself and I lose the pictures.
My confidence in 3 is completely crushed, which is a shame and as an avid Nokia fanboi, I'm actually starting to give up on them too - when the phone worked it was awesome, but I'm really struggling to convince myself whether to get another Nokia after this one.
Pretty fed up all round really.
Anyway, Happy Christmas and I'll update when I know more.

  • Idoc Locking Issue

We are using an external WMS system (PKMS), so SAP is configured with
de-centralized warehousing. This means that when product is shipped we
receive from the external WMS an iDoc for the Post Goods Issue transaction.
They come in bunches, since there can be many orders on a truck. It seems
that the processing does not occur quick enough and some iDocs are blocked
because the SKU they are trying to update is locked while being updated. We
have turned on the option of 20 retries but still get too many iDocs
blocked on lock. The lock is always from the RFC user id, so the interface
is blocking itself. Many inbound SHP_OBDLV_CONFIRM_DECENTRAL idocs coming in from SBC (from |
an external WMS system) are being rejected with the error message M3024
Valuation data for material nnnnn is locked by the user RFCCI01.
For business reasons, these idocs are processed immediately and
therefore come into the system in a batch. Even with low number of
idocs coming in, up to 50% of them return with a status 51. For
example, of 13 idocs coming in 7 are going to status 51 with this
error. When we reprocess them with program RBDMANIN this obviously
    reprocesses
them properly because it processes them sequentially preventing locking
    |however this does not meet our business need.

    Hi Scott!
In case you are getting a rejection of up to 50% of the IDOCs, then you should go for sequential processing as a immediate help (no parallel processing, not the 'real' sequential technic).
This might look slower in first hand - but with such high rejection rates you are anyway not faster currently. And it's much better to have more successful IDOCs than faster errors.
In a second step you should look for performance optimizations. If you are using Retail: there is an option for a late article master lock option (SPRO general data). It has also business effects, but should be discussed.
Also slow user-exits in update tasks can be a reason for long locks during booking -> check coding for slow parts.
    Regards,
    Christian
