NumLock operation is different after updating operating system.

Once I updated to the new system (actually had to, replacement Blackberry), now Numlock will not stay on when moving between entry boxes in our web base system.  Anyone know of a fix for this??
Thanks
Marc

Cheers for your reply.
Although now up and running on the BIS site, after speaking to orange customer services, so able to add emails online, the fact that the email set-up application has disappeared from the menu completely after updating the operating system, seems to have the good folk at orange baffled.
I was on the phone for nigh on an hour to them, to try and sort this, alas to no avail. They tried resending service books several times too.
Issue has now been passed onto a technician, and am awaiting a call back...

    Merely clicking the Preview icon in the Dock doesn't cause it to open anything, unless you had one or more windows open the last time it quit.
    If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
    from the contextual menu. A folder should open. If there is more than one item in the folder with the words "Flash Player" (not "flashplayer") in the name, open the respective Info windows, check the version numbers, and delete all except the latest. You may be prompted for your login password. If you get the same error after doing that, re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
    Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
    Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    2. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    3. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
    from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    4. In the Safari preference window, select
    Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
    and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

    Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
    Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • [SOLVED] vi (vim) no longer works properly after updating the system

    After updating the system with pacman -Syu vi stopped working. All syntax colors are gone, and everything is grey. When I press i to enter "insert" mode, editing is not visible. Changes are obscure and you can't tell what you are modifying.  Quitting with :q will still prompt you to use :q! to abort changes, even if no changes were visibly made.
    When scrolling to the beginning or end of a file, the screen flashes with grey glitch like areas.  What happened to my vi!?!?!?!?!?
    This all happened while following the beginner's guide to install arch linux.  I realized this when trying to arbitrarily read a test file I made directly after updating.
    The problems continued to be visible when installing and setting up sudo (those steps are the next steps that require vi)...  I think the sudo installation worked... but my vi is horribly glitchy
    Any ideas?

    Setting EDITOR does not help in every case. For instance, visudo is by default hard linked to vi. (You can change this, I know. )
    But in fact, vi is only a symlink to ex. So I simply renamed this link and put another symlink to vim (vim-big in my case since I in fact do use the gvim package).
    /usr/bin/vi -> vim-big
    /usr/bin/vi-simple -> ex
    The drawback is that I have to set those links on every vi-update. (But I sure will remember...)

    After updating to system 7.2 on my MacAir, the library folder in my home folder has disappeared.. anyone know if this is a byproduct of OS7.2

    Not with 10.7.2 but with OSX Lion since it was released.
    Apple has hidden the Library folder by default.
    In Finder option-click Go in the menubar and it will appear under Home.
    Or permanently with this Terminal command: chflags nohidden ~/Library

    If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
    Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
    For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
    If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
    When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • HELP! itunes arranges the library differently after updating

    after updating itunes to 7.0.2.16 the library is arranged abruptly wrong!
    the article in band names is taken now into account! for example, 'the who' is now found under 't' and not - what would be correct - under 'w'.
    this has not been before and i could not find how to change it correctly!
    anyone here who knows how to solve this problem?
    thanks
    itunes 7.0.2.16   Windows XP

    here's the solution!!!!
    important is the file: localizable.strings
    well, you have to do the following steps:
    - go to: programs > itunes > itunes.resources > de.iproj > localizable.strings
    (the path is for german itunes. for english versions it has to be 'en.iproj' or 'fr.iproj' for french, respectively. depending on the version of itunes and wether it is a pc or mac the path can differ. important is to find 'resources' and the ipod-settings - in this folder is the marked file)
    - copy this file and paste it into your desktop.
    - open it with text editor.
    - search for Reordered Artist Strings within the file
    you'll see the following without the marked paragraph:
    /* ===== Reordered Artist Strings ===== */
    "146.001" = "Die ";
    "146.002" = "%1, Die";
    "146.003" = "die ";
    "146.004" = "%1, die";
    "146.005" = "DIE ";
    "146.006" = "%1, DIE";
    "146.007" = "The ";
    "146.008" = "%1, The";
    "146.009" = "the ";
    "146.010" = "%1, the";
    "146.011" = "THE ";
    "146.012" = "%1, THE";
    this is the region important for the arrangement within the library.
    - if you have a none-english version you have to copy the marked paragraph and paste it into the file. pay attention that the numbering is correct!
    ('die' is a german definite artikel like 'the'. in the french version there will probably be 'le' or 'la'. important is that you have the part with 'the' in this file!!!! same to other languages...)
    - i don't know if english versions have this problem, too. important is to have the marked paragraph correctly in this file! check this out!
    - paste the edited file into the original folder. it may be a good idea to keep the old file if anything went wrong!!!

  • After updating the system does not boot anymore!

    I made an usual update with 'pacman -Syu' and since I saw a kernel update I rebooted...
    After reboot the lilo menu appears, it autoselects arch after 2 seconds, it appears
    boot:
    loading arch........................... .................................
    nothing more. No errors, no messages at all!
    It is the same also using the fallback.
    What happened? Can I do something or I have to reinstall arch from zero?
    edit: typo
    edit2: it can be related to the fact the I have /boot partition and lilo in different disks?
    Last edited by ezzetabi (2007-06-03 18:31:34)

    I see, so now I have to start the machine with the arch CD. Mount the drives, chroot the directory where I mounted and starting lilo should solve.
    Thanks everyone.
    edit: it worked! Thanks everyone.

  • Something wrong after updating the system...

    Hi, there,
    Recently, a handful customers came to me and complained that their Macs were totally dead (can't bootup anymore) after a system update. What I can recall now is that most of them use iMac.
    My questions are:
    - Is this a known/common issue?
    - How to diagnose if it's the system update caused the problem?
    - How to recover from the problem?
    Thanks.
      Other OS

    hey there koifans
    i am one of those victims, sadly.
    i have an older, non intel machine.
    its a powermac g4 mirror door drive.
    i got the automatic software update notice. i did the download / install, rebooted and noticed everything running real sluggish. so i did a 2nd reboot and that was that. just a flashing folder / question mark icon.
    i guess i have this unfounded theory that becuase the update serves intel machines, it aint so good to put on older machines. reason i come to that conclusion is becuase a few prior updates ago, i did the automatic software update, had problems, had to reinstall system software. and later found out that there was a version for non intel machines. when i did that version, all was fine. i think there are going to be lots more posts on this issue over next few days.
    i asked apple if this was a known issue, they said no.
    thanks

  • Photo booth again fails after Update of System

    A few months ago I found my Photo Booth stopped showing a camera picture after I upgraded with a System Update but then cured the problem after a simple Reboot.
    Well the photo booth has again failed to operate following a recent Update of the OS and all I get is a blank screen. This time it won't kick start after a re boot. Is there any way to find out why it won't switch on its internal camera and cure it for good.
    The saved snapshots will show in the photo booth but it's simply the "live" picture that won't work.
    There is plenty of daylight in the room so it shouldn't be just a black screen should it?
    Thanks
    Plado

    I think I can pull this question off now. The system has wrong-footed me again.
    It seems to be that when you have too many computers all calling upon the same wireless broadband connection in the one building, the DNS or something gets choked.
    I switched off the router the modem the wireless and the main desktop pc
    I then rebooted them all. After it was all up and running I turned on the MacBook and connected via the usual AirPort and both Google Earth and PhotoBooth were running as sweet as a nut.
    It seems all too easy to think the Macbook has got itself in a twist when in fact it's just responding to a tired and emotional broadband connection that has lost its bandwidth due to over crowded usage.
    I'll close this question now.
    Sorry to alert anyone.

  • ITunes 10.5 won't open after update and System Restore

    I upgraded to iTunes 10.5 days ago on my laptop running Windows Vista 32bit.
    Download and install went ok. Tried to open iTunes it just won't load.
    I click on the iTunes icon from the start menu or the desktop and only the "circle" signifying "wait" pops up for a few seconds then it goes away.
    iTunes.exe shows up in Windows Task Manager for a few seconds, then disappears.
    There is no error message or pop-up during any of this.
    Quciktime Player and Quicktime both work though.
    I had to do a System Restore for my laptop recently because it would not boot up correctly. It kept saying "loading" but never actually load, so I took out the battery and had to system restore it.
    Please help and thanks so very much in advance!

    iFOUND the Solution!!!
    Go to Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel and for every program that is Apple - iTunes - Quicktime related RIGHT click on it and choose "Repair" and repair it. May take some time for each program.
    Then, I got an error message saying:
    "the file "itunes library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes."
    Here, from the Start Menu, search "Apple Software Update" and update every program it says needs updating. I recently this week updated Quicktime to its latest version, but did so anyway. So I updated Quicktime and iTunes...restarted computer...and it worked.
    That's how you do it. iTunes 10.5 works fine now. Hope it does equally well for you.

  • After updating libraries system still needs the old one.

    Hi. Almost always when I upgrade library and som other packages, system still needs the old one but at the same time it needs the new one. Like when i updated gnome and libffi, it needs libffi.so.5 and libffi.so.6. When I run gnome-shell with libffi.so.5 I've got:
    /usr/bin/gnome-shell: error while loading shared libraries: libffi.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    When I upgrade it, new error appears:
    /usr/bin/gnome-shell: error while loading shared libraries: libffi.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    It happend with more apps. I think something is wrong with my system and i don't know what.

    I am using vim in the console but have gvim because it is compiled with X copy/paste support.
    /usr/local/lib is empty.
    I just updated fully (included a gvim and vim-runtime update).
    I deleted the files I added earlier (libffi.so.5, libffi.so.5.0.10).
    I've also rebooted.
    As you can see below, vim needs both libffi.so.5 and libffi.so.6.

  • Almost no applications work after updating the system to 10.6.8

    A few days ago I upgraded my MacBook system to 10.6.8 and afterwards when restarting the computer the screen became blue. Nothing happened and I tried to re-restart it. After this almost no applications are working including VLC-player, appstore, Mail, systemupdate, iTunes, skype etc. Games like the sims 3 are not working either despite the fact that I have tried to uninstall and then reinstall these games and programmes. Is there anyone who has got a clue of what has happened and how I fix it? PLEASE, I'M BECOMING DESPERATE!

    Go through this list of fixes and get back to me
    I'd expect your going to need to do #18 eventually to get a working OS X again.

  • After updated op system, my itunes music library is "no content"

    I updated my itouch to newest op system today. Now when i select the music icon it says "no content". I tried syncing in the summary page of itunes, when i do that i see the msg at top says syncing ipod, step 1 2 3 and then it blinks off, all in 1-2 seconds. How to i get my music back?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Safari private browsing behaves differently after update to 10.6.8.  How can I change it to act as before?

    Prior to 10.6.8 I was able to switch on private browsing and visit sites requiring a login (such as Flickr) and the site would remember my credentials.  Now when I visit such a site with private browsing enabled it prompts me to login.  Is there some switch that I need to set to have it behave as before?

    Ack! We don't need that much.
    What you posted looks like the iTunes Library.xml file  I will let you read about how iTunes works but not only is the .xml not your main library it is just the listing of tracks in your library and where the music files should be located.  Your music is actually in media files (by the way, it is pointless to zip those as they are already compressed).  Anyway, read these and you will see that your true library file (iTunes Library.itl) is only a small, but still important, part of a complete library.

    As you can see, a library has several components, so "getting it back" depends upon what is missing, what it was you actually backed up in the end, if any of this music was purchased from the iTunes Store, etc.
