Nursing Diagnosis Manual Not Working on iBooks

I bought the Nursing Diagnosis Manual on iBooks hoping it would make my life easier.  However, it has been adding to the difficulties.  It takes 5-7 minutes to open the book.  There are times when it will not open at all.  Furthermore, the iBook does not function upon use.  I try looking up a specific word and click the page I want to view.  Then nothing happens.  In addition, when I try scrolling pages, the pages disappear.  Can someone please help me in this ordeal?  Thank you in advance.

Try deleting and redownloading the the book.  If no improvement, use the Report a Problem link on your receipt.

  • Does iSight not work in iBook?

    I bought iBook G4 in 2004.
I have ordered iSight in apple store. Not yet shipped now.
However today my friend told me iSight may not work in iBook.
    Is it right?

    Just for others,
In Jaguar (10.2.5 - 10.2.8) Apple sold a version of iChat 2 for Jaguar from May 2004 until Oct 4th (or that weekend) that worked in the range shown. This is actually a very similar time frame to Panther (10.3) being released.
It is of course unlikely that anyone is in the posistion of having bought this and never used it.

  • Airport card 1.2.1 does not work with Ibook G3 with OSx.4.2

I just purchased a brand new airport express base station. It seems to be up and running on my G4Imac just fine as a server.
    For the client,
I have an ibook G3 and now have OSX.3.4 on it.
I installed my ancient Airport card- 1.2.1 into the Ibook.
I installed the new software from the new Airport base station.
I tried to install the old software from the Airport 1.2.1 card but dont have Classic- so would not install.
Now, the Ibook does not allow me to choose Airport in the Network Preferences section- does not seem to recognize there is a card installed. So, no way to connect to the base station.
    My questions:
1.can OS X..3.4 recognize the old Airport 1.2.1?
    2. Does the software from the new base station support the old card when used in the client?
    3. Do I need different software for the card in the iBook other then the base station software? ie, is there card software that needs to be installed, and if so what is it in system X?
Im trying to figure out if I have a hardward problem- ie the card or slot is not working- or s software problem.
    Can anyone help?

MacOS 10.3.x has all the software to use an Airport card already installed. All I would recommend you do is install the Airport 4.1 update provided at:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airport41formacosx.html
The software that ships on the CD that came with the Airport Express is only used to configure an Airport Express. It doesn't provide any software updates for the MacOS itself, nor for the Airport card installed in that Mac.
First thing I suggest you do - run the System Profiler utility on your Mac. See if it identifies that an Airport card is installed. If it does not then recheck the installation of the card - ie pull out the card, then plug it in again and make sure it is fully seated into its socket. Remember to also attach the antenna cable to the card. If the System Profiler still fails to "see" the installed Airport card, then the card itself is likely defective.
[Side note: Airport 1.2.1 was the version of the Airport software required to provide software support for the card in ancient MacOS versions. Airport 1.2.1 is not actually installed on the Airport card itself, so if you install an original Airport card into another Mac it makes no difference what Airport version was installed on the Mac the card was pulled from.]

  • Left-clicking not working on iBook?

    Hi,
I want to give my old iBook G4 to my parents who presently don't have a computer. When I started it up, I noticed that left-clicking does not work. Right clicking, however, works fine. Even when I attach an external USB, only right-clicking works.
I'll be grateful for any suggestions. Thank you!

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
What I meant was that the iBook trackpad button does not work. HOWEVER, it does work when I control+click (i.e., right-clicking).
I already have the software on there for that external USB mouse which used to work fine, but now only right-clicking works on it.

  • Zoom keys not working on ibook g4, stuck on full zoom...

I was trying the zoom feature on my ibook g4, 10.4.6, and turned on zoom. I zoomed in but now can't zoom out or turn off the feature, as I am fully zoomed in. A reboot did not fix this. Upon login, I see my regular desktop for a few seconds, but can't get system preferences open in time to turn off the zoom. A box opens up called character palette and then my desktop zooms fully in. The keyboard shortcut won't work... When I first turned the feature on, I noticed the zoom in shortcut worked fine, but the rest would not. I use quicksilver and can get to my terminal "blind". Is there a terminal command to turn off the zoom feature? My user account is completely useless until I can zoom out...I will try to create another user to see if I can recreate the problem, but in the meantime... I have tried a test account and can recreate the problem. option apple 8 does not work to turn on/off zoom and option apple - doesn't work as well. Only option apple + works. I can't get into system preferences graphically once fully zoomed in as I can't see anything.

    Hello again!
I'm sorry you're still having the problem. If you have a look back at my previous suggestion, you'll see that I didn't say "do an archive and install"! That will only help if the OS is corrupt.
I don't entirely understand the symptoms you're getting, but I do suspect a corrupt preference file (.plist) which is why I suggested zapping them both and nothing else. Archive and instal preserves .plist files, ensuring that if the problem is indeed related to them, it will not be cured.
However, you've now eliminated the possibility that the OS is corrupt!
So, could I suggest the following steps, since you now have a functioning user account?
    0) Check that the keys are indeed giving you the characters you expect (normally =, - and 8).
    1) Open the System Preferences—>Universal Access pane and check the keystrokes designated for Zoom.
    2) Try the keystroke specified for Zoom on/off (default is cmd-alt-8), and see if the On and Off radio buttons toggle as you do so.
    3) Go to the System Preferences—>Keyboard & Mouse pane and ensure that the checkboxes for "Turn zoom on or off", "Zoom out" and "Zoom in" are all ticked.
    4) Try a single keypress of cmd-alt-= and see if the screen zooms in by a step. If all you get is an alert sound, press cmd-alt-8 and try again.
    5) Try a keypress of cmd-alt-- (minus) and see if it zooms out again. If it doesn't, use the Zoom on/off keystroke to turn it off again.
    6) If the problem still persists, then either quit System Preferences and use Terminal, or do what I suggested in my previous post, but zap those two .plist files. You'll have to reset other values, but at least it should rescue your system.
    Keep us posted!

  • TS4443 Facebook 'like' button not working in iBooks

    Hi,
For some reason the Facebook 'like' button does not seem to work or do anything when in the iBooks store. When selecting the ratings and reviews tab the Facebook button that appears above the review section seems not to do anything? I've tried on both my iphone and ipad running ios 7.
    Can anyone please help?

    Hello jimmyfingers13,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the Facebook Like button is not working correctly in the iBooks app. I have a few recommendations to help troubleshoot the issue here.
First, close all the apps that are running in the background with this article named:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that, restart your device with this article then test again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, I would next re install the iBooks app from the App store:
    6. Reinstall the affected app
Remove the app from your device and reinstall it:
Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-right corner of the app.
Tap the "x" in the corner of the app you want to delete.
Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
    Press the Home button.
    Go to the App Store.
Search for the app and then download it again.
Note: If it is a paid app, ensure you are using the iTunes account you purchased the app with originally. If it is not, you may be asked to purchase the app again. Learn more about downloading previously purchased items.

  • HTML Widget not working with iBooks when exported

I've created an HTML widget for my iBook using Tumult Hype. The widget itself uses the draggable code. When I test it on Chrome and Safari, the code works fine. However, when I use export the iBook and test it on my iPad, the images are not draggable. This is also a problem with movie files, accordion drag and drop lists, etc.
    Anyone know what's going on?

I never used iWeb08, but I just tried to make a site in '09 and my HTML widgets don't work either, on the web. They work if I publish to a folder.
The widgets load flash .swf files. I had to manually put them in the site folder on my computer, and in the widget I access them with a file name like "../flash/file.swf". It worked on the folder, but when I published to the site, they don't load.
Since iWeb doesn't know about the folder I stuck in there, I had to upload it to the site folder also. But that still doesn't fix the problem. I looked at the HTML widget source, and to me it looks like the file pathnames are correct, it just doesn't seem to be running the widget.
Anyone have a fix for this?
    Thanks
    Bob

  • 2.2 hyperlinks not working in ibooks for desktop

    Hi there,
So, I'm using 2.2's new feature in which you can create a text hyperlink to another part of the book from a drop-down menu in the inspector.
It works perfectly in Author itself, and also when previewed on my iPad - so I know I'm doing it correctly. But when I preview or export the same file to iBooks app on my desktop, the links just jump back to the beginning of the chapter. Is this an Apple fail?

Thanks for responding. I'm currently waiting to hear from my developers BUT the X5 version works OK in the developer's browser and the RoboHelp 9 WebHelp does not.

  • Media placeholders not working in iBooks Author

I'm using an iMac with Yosemite OS 10.10.1 and iBooks Author 2.2 (both completely up to date)
I've set up media placeholders in the page templates and saved them, but on the pages themselves the placeholders are not activated.
When I drag in a new image it just lands on the page as a separate image, not in the placeholder.
When I hover over the placeholder on the page, it tells me it is a 'media placeholder'.
I've tried various formats of image. I've tried removing and reapplying the placeholder attribute. I've tried closing and restarting the application. Nothing seems to work.

    Hi superted2uk,
Thanks for your question.  In the resource below, the instructions for adding a placeholder include an option in the inspector to select "Editable om pages using this layout."   Can you check to see if this is enabled on the placeholders you created?
iBooks Author: Add placeholders to a custom template or layout
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2764
iBooks Author: Add placeholders to a custom template or layout
All templates include placeholders that make it easy to add your own text and media. If you create or modify a template or layout, you can define your own placeholders.
You can define media or text placeholders on individual pages. If you want a placeholder to be part of a layout (so it appears whenever you use a particular layout), follow the instructions in “Add a placeholder to a template layout,” below.
To help manage placeholders in a book, you can add tags (names) to them. The media and text placeholders included in the layouts already have tags (Body, Main image, or Objectives), which you can change if you like. You can also create your own tags.
Tagging a customized placeholder enables you to use it in other layouts throughout a book and makes it easy to switch layouts. For example, suppose you create a layout with a placeholder for a graphic in the upper-left corner and another layout with the placeholder in the upper-right corner. If you tag the placeholder “Planet image” in both layouts, the graphic always appears in the correct location, no matter which of the two layouts you use.
    Define a media placeholder
Drag a photo or movie from the Media Browser or Finder to a book page.
If you can’t add the item, it might not be in a supported file type.
Modify the object with the properties you want the placeholder to have, and select the object.
Choose Format > Advanced > Define as Media Placeholder, so that a checkmark appears.
To stop using the object as a placeholder, choose Format > Advanced > Define as Media Placeholder, so that the checkmark disappears.
    Define a text placeholder
Format the text the way you want it to look, and select the text.
Don’t select the final paragraph break character, or the entire paragraph is deleted when the placeholder text is replaced. To see paragraph break characters, choose Show Invisibles from the View pop-up menu  in the toolbar.
Choose Format > Advanced > Define as Placeholder Text, so that a checkmark appears.
To stop using the text as a placeholder, choose Format > Advanced > Define as Placeholder Text, so that the checkmark disappears.
    Change placeholder text
After you create a text placeholder, you can modify its default text. For example, you can insert “Lorem ipsum” text to make it obvious that the text is placeholder.
Select the text in a text placeholder and choose Format > Advanced > Enable Placeholder Authoring.
Type the text you want to appear in the text placeholder.
Choose Format > Advanced > Disable Placeholder Text Authoring.
Add a placeholder to a template layout
If the Layouts pane isn’t open, choose Show Layouts from the View pop-up menu  in the toolbar.
In the Layouts pane, select a layout.
On the book page, select the object you want to make a placeholder.
In the Layout inspector, select “Editable on pages using this layout.”
To add a tag to the placeholder, choose an option from the Tag pop-up menu or type your own text.
To make the placeholder appear in portrait orientation (if you are using a landscape template), select “Shared with portrait layout.”
To stop using an object as a placeholder, select the object and deselect “Editable on pages using this layout” in the Layout inspector.

Let me know if this helps, or if I've misunderstood your question and need more clarification.

  • Mathtype 6.7e not working in iBooks Author 2.1

Is anyone else having trouble inserting Mathtype equations in the latest update of iBooks Author. I can't even edit my previous equations. I also have updated to Mavericks so that could be the problem too. I have the latest version of Mathtype that will work on the mac.

    Mr. Mathtype,
I am having a very similar problem with MathType and iBooks Author. Here is a rundown of what happens. My system is currently running the Mavericks OS with iBooks Author 2.1.
    - When I double click to edit an existing equation a new MathType window is opened titled Untitled X (with X being the iteration of the windor, rather than the normal title you get "Equation from iBooks Author"). This window is blank, it does not contain the text from the equation that I am supposedly editing. If I type anything into this window and then attempt to close, I am asked if I want to save changes.
    - When I try to insert a new equation I do get a MathType window to open titled "Equation from iBooks Author" but no matter what I type into this window, when I close it, no equation is inserted into my iBooks Author file. I have tried this on existing books that I have built as well as brand new books started from Apple's generic templates.
However, your fix of opening MathType before iBooks Author seems to have resolved the issue. Just figured I would chime in to help you troubleshoot the issue.

  • Aperture user manual not working

I am using Aperture 3.2.2 and I wonder where my user manual is.
When I go to help, enter something and click on that link, the help window tells me that it is currently unavailable.
Only those links are working, which refer to the Apple Support page or to pdf documents, but the original online help seems to be gone.
Anything I can do to bring it back? Anyone else experiencing this?
    Thanks.

As far as I remember there never was a german version of the Aperture version available in this dialogue, only an error message  - automatic message, poor grammar:
But the manual is hidden inside the Aperture Application in the german localization folder; you can open it from the Terminal by typing:
      open /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/Resources/German.lproj/aperture_help/index. html
Since it is not very convenient to type this each time you want to access the manual, I'd suggest to open the Aperture Application package and to create an alias to this file or to define an Automator action that performs this command.
    Cheers

  • DVD Burner not working on iBook

I have a G3 PowerBook (Pismo) and I am running OS X 10.4.4. I use an external Firewire enclosure with an HP DVD Writer 200i. Everything works flawlessly. Today, a friend of mine wanted to use the drive on an iBook to burn a movie from iDVD. I plugged it in via Firewire on the iBook and nothing happens. The drive does not show up in the System Profiler at all. Under Firewire it just says supports up to 400 MBits or whatever, doesn't even say that there's a Firewire device attatched.
This has left my stumpped. The iBook is running OS X 10.4.4 as is my Pismo. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this strange problem.

    Any one have any suggestions?

  • Javax.print.attribute.standard.MediaTray.MANUAL not working

    Hello,
Requirement : Printer should prompt for manual paper feed while printing a pdf.
    Code snippet:
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception
    SimpleDoc simpleDoc = new SimpleDoc(*new* FileInputStream(*new* File("c:\\old.pdf")),
    DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.+AUTOSENSE+,*null* );
    PrintService defaultPrintService = PrintServiceLookup.+lookupDefaultPrintService+();
    DocPrintJob docPrintJob = defaultPrintService.createPrintJob();
    {color:#ff0000}PrintRequestAttributeSet aset = new HashPrintRequestAttributeSet(MediaTray.+MANUAL+);{color}
    docPrintJob.print(simpleDoc, aset);
Problem: The print attribute {color:#ff0000}MediaTray.MANUAL{color} is ignored in the above snippet. But when the same attribute when used with jasper reports library, it works fine.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance.

You get out your printer manual and check if your printer will do this or not, if it does, then look up the codes that the printer requires to do that task. If it doesn't do it, then go buy a printer that does support it and look up the codes that the printer requires to do that task. Once you have the codes that are required to do that task, then check if there are any special signals (pin activations and etc) that need to be sent to enable that mode. If there are no special signals that are needed to enable that mode, then send the codes to the printer. If you need special signals, then your probably looking at a JNI module for your project to generate the special signals needed.

  • Bookmarks not working in iBooks author

I am unable to create a bookmark in iBooks author. The “+”-sign in the bookmarks pane of the inspector is faded/unclickable when I select an element on one of the pages (figure, text box, image etc.). I have been reading up on solutions and workarounds, but have yet to find one that works.
I have chapters, sections, and pages in my book but cannot add bookmarks to any of these. I am using the “Photo book”-layout, could this be the problem?
I’d really appreciate any help I can get on this problem, thanks.

I finally managed to find a workaround for this, which I thought I'd share since I know a lot of others are struggling with this too.
In my case, I'm working with a photo book style template, with full sized background images on every page. I wanted to link from one page to the next, but as mentioned, I was unable to create bookmarks on any of the pages of my book.
What I found worked was selecting one of my large background images, then going to the "Widget inspector" (farthest right in the inspector panel), selecting the "Layout" tab and checking "title" and in the label dropdown selecting "Figure". By doing so, I'm defining my image as a figure. I can then select a portion of text on another page, go to the hyperlinks panel in the inspector and in the drop down menu specify that I want to link to a figure, my image then appears in the figure list and I can click to link to it.
Now, this led to a second problem - changing the hyperlink color (predefined as underlined light blue). This is yet another (of many) bugs in iBooks author. I found a way to solve this too; open the Styles Drawer (select it from the "View" menu on the top left of the formatting toolbar). Select the text you want to format (in this case your hyperlink). Click on the little arrow next to the "Figure reference" style (which is the defined style on the text link) and choose "Create character style from selection". In the pop-up that opens, click on "Include these character attributes" and at the bottom left, click on "Select Overrides", then uncheck the overrides for underline and color. Click on OK (I find that you need to have at least one character attribute checked in order to be able to click OK so make sure you have the font and size checked). Now you've created a new formatting style that you can apply to all your hyperlinks but it won't look like you've done anything in iBooks Author - you'll ned to preview the book to see your formatted text (yup, another bug...).
Let's hope Apple get these bugs fixed for the next version, and soon!
