Nvida GT 610 nouveau support

Hello all,
I am currently trying to find a setup with a working graphics card (no 3D required). I got myself a GT 610 from Nvidia, specifically this one here:
https://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/GT610SL1GD3L/
I tried using nouveau with it. Bootup worked fine, it showed the console with the correct resolution. Problem is that X won't start. The error message is:
[drm] kms not enabled
This confuses me, seeing as the nouveau driver seems to work. I tries using Nvidia instead. This does work but the driver has a *horrible* 2D performance. Quite annoying that Nvidia can't even get this to work properly.
Question is: Is this card working at all with nouveau? I took a look at the code names here: https://wiki.freedesktop.org/nouveau/CodeNames/ and the Fermi family seems to be supported. If the card does not work I can return it but then I would need to know if there *is* a working card for <= 50 €. Any ideas?

Hi x2b,
It's kinda obvious but...Have you followed the instructions in KMS Installation?

  • Need advice for a new monitor for Mac Centris 610

    I have a Mac Centris 610. The Apple monitor(display unit) that originally came with it finally died. Would this old Mac be able to use a new flat-screen computer monitor? How can I find out what newer monitors wouldbe compatible with this old "war horse" computer. I use it for one application only, but it still works great for this. Many thanks to anyone who can rescue me from my predicament!

    You can't use a new flat-screen display, because they have a widescreen aspect ratio (16:9) and that isn't supported by the Centris' onboard graphics.  The Centris doesn't have PCI slots, so that eliminates that option.  You could check thrift stores or computer recyclers in your area for an older display.  You might have success using a Mac-to-VGA adapter having a set of adjustable DIP switches.  It plugs into the Mac DB-15 display port on the back of the Centris and enables you to connect an older, multi-sync CRT display (4:3 aspect ratio) having a PC-style VGA connector.
    From the specs posted at EveryMac.com for the Centris 610:
    "By default, the Macintosh Centris 610 only supports a single display, but a second one can be supported with the addition of a compatible PDS or NuBus video card. With the standard VRAM, the system is capable of supporting 512x384 at 16-bit color and 640x480, 800x600 and 832x624 at 8-bit color. With 1 MB of VRAM installed, it can support 640x480, 800x600 and 832x624 at 16-bit color and 832x624, 1024x768 and 1152x870 at 8-bit color."

  • SOLVED - nouveau sync to vblank

    I've been using the nouveau driver and it's working well.
    I have a problem with tearing. I read an article that suggested that nouveau supports sync to vblank and this can be set in xorg.conf.
    Two questions:
    - is this true and
    - if so how do I set that in xorg.conf
    Thanks

  • Gray Screen - Mac Won't boot from DVD, Please Help!

    Hello all
    I have an issue. A big issue in fact. I made a fatal mistake of not reading whether my Mac Pro (1,1 1st Gen, 2006) supported Windows 7 64-bit. So I installed via the Bootcamp installer on a separate internal HD and ever since my Mac Pro will not boot up, it just boots into a gray screen and I get the spinning wheel of death. I can however, boot into Safe Mode.
    Throughout the years and many moving of houses has meant I have lost my original install disks, so I purchased a retail copy of Snow Leopard (10.6.3 / MC573Z/A). My thinking here was that something is obviously screwed and perhaps a good ol' fresh installation of OSX would do the trick. My Mac originally came with a version of OSX older than Snow Leopard so I'm not violating the can't-install-using-an-older-version-that-what-your-Mac-came-with rule.
    Cutting a long story short nothing I do can get the Mac to boot from the install DVD. I've tried the following:
    1. Holding down 'c' at start up
    2. Selecting the startup disk to be the DVD from Settings within Safe Mode
    3. Holding down alt + option key then selecting the DVD
    4. Holding down apple + option + shift + delete (read somewhere this forces the Mac to ignore it's desire to boot from the main partition and boot from next available device)
    5. Tried resetting the NVRAM
    6. Repaired disk permissions from within Safe Mode
    All unnecessary periphals have been removed. I have yet to remove 3rd party RAM admittedly.
    Really struggling for ideas now.
    Is there any hope for me and my beloved Mac Pro?
    Many thanks for your suggestions.

    Right, another update. This coffee stuff really works!
    Did a bit more digging around and found the following forum threads:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-1241149.html
    http://osx86.wikidot.com/known-issues
    Anyway, turns out the chap in the first forum link had the exact same problem as me. He temporarily got around this by removing the following files from the following location whilst in Safe Mode:
    Location: /System/Library/Extensions
    Files:
    NVDANV40Hal.kext
    NVDANV50Hal.kext
    NVDAResman.kext
    NVSMU.kext
    GeForce.kext
    GeForce7xxxGLDriver.bundle
    GeForceGA.plugin
    GeForceGLDriver.bundle
    GeForceVADriver.bundle
    I decided what the heck and moved these files into a new folder on my desktop and deleted the originals.
    Sure enough my mac now boots up normally!
    So it seems that the graphics card was the issue. I have read about the NVIDA 7300 GT only supporting 32-bit, but my tekkie understanding is not enough to know 32-bit what? I thought OSX was a 64-bit OS? If so, then why had it worked all this time? Only when I mistakenly installed Windons 7 64-bit did all my problems start.
    Anyway, looks like I'll need to find a suitable replacement.

  • NSLU2 drive connected to WRT610N

    I have a 500GB USB drive that I used to have connected to an NSLU2.  Replaced that (and my old router) with a WRT610N.  The 610 sees the drive, but wants to format it.  Does the 610 not support the file system used by the NSLU2?  Known issue / workaround?  Latest firmware on 610.
    Thanks -
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Well keep in mind that the wrt610 only supports Fat32 and just recently NTFS was added. As for your hard disk do you know what filesystem it is currently formated as? By default the NSLU2 formats using the EXT3 filesystem, But a firmware update allowed the use fat32/NTFS filesystems. I hope that answers your question.

  • Unexpected problems with Thinkvision L220x

    Hello.
    I bought lenovo thinkvision L220x and when I connected it at native resolution 1920 x 1200 picture overlappes out of the screen horizontally. Vertical 1200 is fine. So first resolution that bring my whole picture back to the screen is 1600 x 1200.
    At both resolutions 1920 x1200 and 1600 x 1200 figures are deformated. So circles are not circles but ellipses. If I want to see proper pictures I must reduce horizontal size a lot. So finally It is not more 22 inch but much less.
    When I watch movies either with media player or bs player on full screen there are horizontal lines like when mobile phone rings.
    I use NVidea graphic card which supports 128 Mb graphics. It supports native resolution 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz.
    Please help.

    if the L220x works on another computer then something is wrong with your computer's video driver or settings.   have you downloaded the latest quadro FX 5600 graphics driver (not the performance driver) from nvidia?

  • SLI installation help??

    First of all, the PC specs:
    * MSI P6N SLI Platinum
    * Intel dual core E6600 2.4 ghz
    * Two gigs Corsair DDR2 800 memory
    * Corsair 620 watt PS
    * Creative sound card
    * SATA Maxtor 7200 rpm hard drive
    * 2 EVGA GTS 8800 graphics cards in SLI
    * lite-on SATA DVD burner
    This is my sons system, and I gave him my old 8800 GTS to run with his identical 8800 GTS in SLI. These are both the early G80 based cards. The only difference between the two is one has 320 MB on board memory, and the other 640.
    I have the switch card set up in the SLI position. Both cards are installed with the SLI bridge. I have the latest Nvidia graphics drivers, as well as system drivers installed. Both cards have the power connected. Both cards show up in device manager. In Everest, it says under "Nvida SLI" SLI status: Supported but disabled.
    If I type "rundll32.exe nvcpl.dll,LaunchMultiGpuApplet" into run and hit enter, I get a screen that says "Your graphics cards feature SLI technology, However, your mobo is not qualified to run in SLI mode".
    Any idea what is going on here? My mobo is SLI capable. Could the difference in on board memory between the two cards be causing this? I have the card with the least amount of memory in the primary PCI express slot on top. I was told that these two cards would run fine in SLI even with different amounts of memory.
    Help!! Thanks!

    "If I type "rundll32.exe nvcpl.dll,LaunchMultiGpuApplet" into run and hit enter, I get a screen that says "Your graphics cards feature SLI technology, However, your mobo is not qualified to run in SLI mode".
    That's force the old style, the message is normal. You should Enable it by normal way from NV Ctrl Panel.{Newest Style}

    Yes, that's an issue. Probably will not gonna works..
    "I was told that these two cards would run fine in SLI even with different amounts of memory.""
    That's out dated info, there is an special trick for that, but it wont works with newest VGA's/Drivers:
    Q: Can I mix and match graphics cards with different sizes of memory?
    While it is not recommended, NVIDIA does offer this flexibility using Coolbits. When purchasing a second graphics card, you should try to match the memory size so that you are ensured full value and performance from your purchase. For example, if your first card is a GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory, you should purchase a second GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory. However, using Coolbits (value set to 18), you can force both of the cards to use the lower of the two memory sizes and operate together in SLI mode. When dissimilar memory sizes are enabled to work together using Coolbits, the effective memory size for each card becomes the smaller of the two memory sizes. Instructions to enable this feature can be found

    When will Camera Raw and Photoshop support Nikon 610 cameras

    Hi,
    What version of photoshop and operating system are you using?
    Photoshop cs6 and photoshop cc should open those files.
    You might just need to go to Help>Updates from within photoshop cs6/cc to get an updated camera raw plugin
    Camera raw 8.3 or 8.4, depending on your operating system.

  • Tethered Support for Nikon D-610

    By reading comments herein, one is led to believe that LR 5.3 provides tethered capture support for the Nikon D-610.  Well, I have a MacBook Pro and OSX, and beg to differ.  I cannot, for the life of me, get LR 5.3 to recognize my D-610.
    If the camera is truly suppoted, please -- someone, anyone -- tell me what steps I need to take to get the software to recognize the camera?
    If this camera is not supported, when will the D-610 be added?  LR 5.3 already supports the 610's predecessor, the D-600; this camera had such a serious dust/sensor problem that Nikon quickly introduced the 610, which is virtually identical but without the sensor problem.  Please, give me some good news!!
    Any takers??
    Thanks, Image man

    Omission?
    Hardly - just limited resources and an almost new-to-market camera. Adobe can't do a thing until the D610 is added by Nikon to the SDK (which only happened in November), and then Adobe has to work the update into a Lightroom release.
    It can take a while...

  • Will my NVIDA K2200 Graphics card be supported in Win 10?

    I wondered if this would have problems?

    Totally awesome Geoff!!!!!!!!!!!! You have no idea how many hours I have wasted (including over an hour with Lightroom Tech Support on the phone -- they told me it was a graphics card problem!) trying to find this very simple answer. I feel overwhelmed with its simplicity... MANY GRATEFUL THANKS!

  • Nvida and nouveau in harmony?

    I know it's supposed to be a real no-no, but I was wondering if there was any way to run nvidia's proprietary drivers and nouveau on the same machine.  I'd really like to have KMS because I use the ttys a lot, but I also want to play nexuiz and assaultcube every now and then.  Is this possible though some method like keeping two kernels?  I'd be okay with rebooting to switch drivers, maybe even with editing xorg.conf.d/ .

    The nvidia libs and libgl clash, yeah, but if you use nouveau just for the framebuffer console, you don't need libgl installed in the first place.
    Hmm, doubt that was the OP's intent, somehow

  • Ivy Bridge Support for 610-1130f (H67 - WJ1 Motherboard)

    Intel H67 chipset supports Ivy Bridge but requires a BIOS update.
    Does HP plan to release a bios update?
    Is there anything we can do to get them to offer an update?
    I really wish HP would support it.
    I've love this machine even more with a new Ivy Bridge CPU and HD 4000 graphics.
    Has anyone tried installing a processor to see what happens?

    Hi,
    Some third parties have released bios updates to support the Ivy Bridge product. A lot of regession testing needs to be done on the older motherboards.  I would suspect that HP will release new models of the TouchSmart with Ivy Bridge support.

  • Is there a workaround for non-supported Nvida card running Premiere Pro CS 5.5?

    I have a NVidia Quadro k2000 card and CS 5.5 but Premiere doesn't recognize the card. I have tried the hack of added the card to the Cuda list and it shows the option for the GPU accelerator in Premiere but it is not rendering any faster.  Besides buying a new card is there any way to make this set-up work?
    Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 0 2.00 GHz (2 processors)
    RAM: 16GB
    System Type: 64 - Bit Oporating System
    Graphics Card: NVidia Quadro k2000

    If Premiere offers you the option to use hardware encoding, then your card is recognized. There is normally nothing more to do.  If I understand you correctly, you are concerned that Premiere is not using the card.  There are 2 ways to check if it is:
    1. Install someting like GPU-Z (google it, it's free) to monitor the GPU. Start to encode something that will actually use CUDA cores, and you should see some activity reported, given as a percentage.  Keep in mind that CUDA is only used for some specific tasks (some effects, resizing) when encoding.
    2. Export a file that will use CUDA when encoding 2 times, once with hardware encoding enabled, and then with software only. Is there a difference in the time needed to complete the export?
