hi
new topic for new driver release.
please discuss driver issues here, that i can modify the wiki if it's necessary, and to get latest news on driver updates.

I also had the /dev/nvidiactl permissions error message.  Did the chmod/chown thing, but I'm also running PAM so I get the error back after rebooting.
I checked for the two permissions files they mentioned, but I don't seem to have them, although I do have an /etc/security/ directory, but none of the files in there have a <dri> section.
Anyone know what I need to change to fix this without disabling PAM?
If im not totaly wrong, consider that I had a few beers  , cant you just add your self to the video group?? I think that is what I did. Check your groups belonging with:

If you not have video, edit your /etc/group file

  • *solved* nvidia 8600GTS, xorg, and no extra power connected to card.

    I just bought a 8600gts and found out I do not have a pci-e power connector on my PSU. I have an adapter being shipped. My question is, X will not run w/o giving me errors about the secondary power not being connected. Thing is, this card runs just as it should under Vista w/o the extra power. Is it possible to get X to start by telling it to ignore the error? And if so, how?

    Thanks! I will give it a try. It's only a temp fix until the power adapter comes in:)
    Edit:
    Your solution worked, thanks again.

  • Nvidia-lts in extra?

    It's a minor thing... but... It would be reeeeeaaaallllly cool if nvidia-lts was maintained in extra. Maybe the combination of kernel-lts and nvidia is not common but I do find for my needs that the lts kernel is easier to use because vmware is pretty slow at supporting newer kernels and for me vmware is a must. I've come to the conclusion that LTS is the path of least resistance for that type of install.
    I would be willing to help with it if necessary. I'm not sure who is maintaining the package in AUR but so far the package has always been updated very quickly after a release of nvidia-utils... Thanks for that whoever you are ;-)
    Cheers,
    Neil

    I'm maintaining the nvidia-lts PKGBUILD in AUR. I could add it in extra as there are other lts modules in extra. I'll ask first on dev ML to see if it's OK with everyone.

    It's working for me, I'm on 340xx nvidia drivers and using sddm+plasma. I even have nouveau installed in parallel (blacklisted).
    I don't know if it makes any difference, but I'm using the -ck variant of the kernel and the nvidia driver. libgl part is still the same though:
    $ pacman -Qs nvidia

  • [SOLVED] Error after using pacman -Sy nvidia

    I am having problems with pacman. After getting xorg with pacman -S xorg and then doing pacman -s xf86-input-mouse (I think there was an ftp error with that package first of all, however, when I ran it it didn't seem to need to download the package)
    I then did pacman -Sy nvidia and it updated the extra repository and then printed this error:
    looking for inter-conflicts... Internal pacman error: Segmentation fault
    Please submit a full bug report, with the given package if appropriate.
    Pacman still works for other packages however for, once I removed /tmp/pacman.lck
    I was able to do pacman -S joe with no problems.
    I am using pacific.com.au as my repository and Pacman 3.0.6. I also
    get the error; "warning: current locale is invalid, using default "C" locale"
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Possible to Use Radeon 4870 AND EVGA NVIDIA GTX 285 at the Same Time?

    Hello,
    I just tried to connect a second 30 inch Cinema display to my early 2009 8-core MacPro with a Radeon 4870 card.
    The second display maxes out at 1280 x 800 resolution.
    I think that is a function of the second port on the 4870, rather than a limitation of the card itself.
    To get around this, I ordered the EVGA NVIDIA GTX 285. At $499, that's a big yikes.
    Here is my question: Will I get better performance running one 30 inch from the Radeon, and the second from the Nvidia? Can I even install both at the same time? Or should I remove the Radeon and use just the Nvidia?
    FWIW, I use this Mac for Photoshop and other image software, and for some stats work. No games. I am using CS4, which would never recognize my 4870. Maybe I will do better with the EVGA NVIDIA GTX 285?
    I would appreciate any and all help on this!
    Thanks!
    Charles

    I just tried to connect a second 30 inch Cinema display to my early 2009 8-core MacPro with a Radeon 4870 card.
    Are you using the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter?
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjkyNjI0Mg>
    The second display maxes out at 1280 x 800 resolution.
    That's the resolution the 30" will run at with a single-link DVI connection.
    I think that is a function of the second port on the 4870, rather than a limitation of the card itself.
    It depends on the adapter you use.
    To get around this, I ordered the EVGA NVIDIA GTX 285. At $499, that's a big yikes.
    It has twice the graphics memory, so may be better if you are processing lots of large images at once.
    Here is my question: Will I get better performance running one 30 inch from the Radeon, and the second from the NVIDIA?
    No. For only two displays, one card is better because it can handle moving windows between displays, or windows spanning both displays. With the displays on different cards, the main computer has to do more work. Even if the windows are never going to cross display boundaries, there is no way for the applications to know that, so they won't let the graphics cards do as much as they could.
    Can I even install both at the same time?
    No. There are only two auxiliary power connectors, and one card will use both.
    Or should I remove the Radeon and use just the NVIDIA?
    Try each card and see which gives the best results with your applications.
    FWIW, I use this Mac for Photoshop and other image software, and for some stats work. No games. I am using CS4, which would never recognize my 4870. Maybe I will do better with the EVGA NVIDIA GTX 285?
    The extra video RAM may give better performance with lors of large images.

  • Bridge crashed on opening folder with .mpeg

    Does not matter if the Bridge is opened as a standalone or within Premiere or AE it craches as soon as i try to open a folder containing  .mpeg files.
    The files are captured with Premeire CS4 straight from a HDV camera.
    Vista 64, Intel i7 940, 12 gig, Nvidia 260, 4 HDD.

    The extra period would come from a typing error when modifying a file name.  For example if you changed fish.mpeg to fish24.mpeg if you insered wrong it could end up fish.24.mpeg.  Or if you have the show suffix turned off in windows you could end up with fish24.mpeg.mpeg.  They would both have errors and may cause problems.
    Just a thought.
    I think it unusual that WE does not show thumbnails.  I checked my mpeg files and I have thumbs in WE and Bridge.  Might want to look into this closer, maye it is something to do with the camera and codex (think that is the term).  Really do not know much on video, but again another thought to consider.

  • Hiccups/hangs with pulseaudio and hd audio ALC883 (ClevoM570RU)

    Hello guys,
    well, as the topic already says, I'm having problems with pulseaudio combined with an ALC883 hd audio card
    on a Clevo-M570RU. I got occassional hiccups and hangs and pulseaudio rewinds.
    For some strange reason I can't kill pulseaudio without having it restart immediatley in the
    current version of archlinux, but I can tell that prior versions showed that the wakeup timer of the pulseaudio
    was increased steadily after buffer underruns occured.
    Its quite rare that buffer underruns occur in which cases pulseaudio triggers a replay of the lost samples (resulting in a hiccup)
    but I can trigger it about every 30-2mins secs with running flash in fullscreen (happens way less in normal window size mode).
    Sometimes the general setup seems to be unstable, resulting in hiccups every like 10 secs, with increasing "severity".
    So far I tried everything possible to fix this issue without any success so far. Maybe one of you guys has an insight into this.
    So far I can only tell, that flash in fullscreen and also normal video playback in vlc (with VDPAU or without, fullscreen worse) trigger this issue way more often.
    So chances are, this is triggered by the NVIDIA drivers, but the problem with that is, that I really need those for development work.
    Also note that e.g. Ubuntu 9.04 did not trigger such an issue - maybe they had an workaround and didn't push it upstream (as usual).

    If i run
    modprobe snd_hda_intel vendor=0x10de product=0x0e0a
    then this gets printed to the kernel log
    [ 655.731520] snd_hda_intel: unknown parameter 'vendor' ignored
    [ 655.731527] snd_hda_intel: unknown parameter 'product' ignored

    [ 656.739954] hda-intel 0000:01:00.1: Codec #0 probe error; disabling it...
    I've tried vid, pid, vendor_id and product_id as parameters, none work. And if i issue modinfo on this module i can't really find a parameter that looks like vendor/product id.
    The same happens if i try adding parameters to the loading of snd_hda_codec_hdmi.

  • Xorg does not start (timeouts) with "no screens found"

    After years of my system working correctly, this has been happening for the last ten days.
    Many times - not all of them - xorg does not start, and I get greated with the standard console login prompt.
    Checking in /var/log/ the xorg.0.log, it says that "no screens found".
    I am using an nvidia VGA with nvidia driver 190.xx from extra.
    I am using KDE, from inittab (not with kdm as a deamon).
    Initial xorg.conf used to be:
    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
    EndSection
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Default Layout"
    Screen "Default Screen"
    InputDevice "Generic Keyboard"
    InputDevice "Configured Mouse"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
    Driver "kbd"
    Option "CoreKeyboard"
    Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Configured Mouse"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "CorePointer"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
    Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
    Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "My Monitor"
    Option "DPMS" "True"
    Option "DPI" "96 x 96"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "My Graphics Card"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Default Screen"
    Device "My Graphics Card"
    Monitor "My Monitor"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1280x1024"
    Viewport 0 0
    EndSubSection
    Option "DPI" "96 x 96"
    Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"
    Option "TripleBuffer" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "enable"
    EndSection
    Now I have trimmed it down to:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "My Graphics Card"
    Driver "nvidia"
    EndSection
    But the problem remains.
    The problem started ten days ago.
    The previous night I had updated the following packages (I provide a section of pacman.log):
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded acct (6.3.2-2 -> 6.5.1-1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded coreutils (8.2-1 -> 8.4-1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded farsight2 (0.0.16-1 -> 0.0.17-1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded git (1.6.6-1 -> 1.6.6.1-1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded iproute2 (2.6.29-3 -> 2.6.31-1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded mkvtoolnix (3.0.0-1 -> 3.1.0-1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded psmisc (22.8-1 -> 22.10-1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded zlib (1.2.3.4-3 -> 1.2.3.4-4)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded recordmydesktop (0.3.8.1-1 -> 0.3.8.1-2)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded smbclient (3.4.4-1 -> 3.4.5-1.1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded samba (3.4.4-1 -> 3.4.5-1.1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded smartmontools (5.38-2 -> 5.39-1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded tzdata (2009t-1 -> 2010a-1)
    [2010-01-21 20:35] upgraded whois (4.7.36-1 -> 5.0.0-1)
    So since nothing on xorg was updated, maybe the new coreutils is the more likely suspect?

    no, i install nvidia and then xorg i try startx without result.
    Right now i am from Ubuntu, i am going to install arch on virtualbox and i will answer to any other questions.
    Thank you
    The reason you were asked if you rebooted is because installing the nvidia driver also installs a kernel module. That kernel module
    needs to be installed in the running kernel, either by invoking "depmod nvidia" or rebooting, providing everything installed correctly. You
    may need to put the module name in your modules section of rc.conf and then reboot.
    The absence of that kernel module explains your error message of not finding that kernel module. :-)
    iirc the .install already does the depmod
    Note to TS:  if you use virtualbox you can't use your hosts video card so you will have to use the vboxvideo driver. So read the wiki about virtualbox

  • SOLVED:Beryl works; But white cube with XGL :(

    Well, Beryl works with nVidia drivers, but lacks the extra "smoothness" that xgl can give. So I tried using xgl with KDE via method 1 and I also tried method 2, but it gives me the dreaded "white cube". (Seems to be a popular trouble, but googling it yields no useful info)
    Any idea as to what I am doing wrong?

    You need to use the "--use-copy" option when you launch beryl.
    Or, with beryl-manager, click Options--> Rendering path --> Copy.

    I cannot thank you enough for this small, yet priceless bit of information. Please accept my thanks, I was battling with this for hours!
    EDIT: An important setting to regard is to select window manager/Beryl (right click on Beryl gem in panel). The default seems to be Kwin, which gives slightly laggy/choppy movement.

  • Once gdm loads I cannot ctrl+alt+Fx to get a tty

    Once gdm loads, I cannot ctrl+alt+Fx to get a tty.  I just get a black screen where my logon screen used to be.  I dunno what has changed on this system.  I installed xfce4 to play with a bit but that is the only recent change.  If I boot into mode 3 everything is fine until I load up X via xinitrc.  This causes the same behavior (black screen when I hit ctrl+alt+Fx).  Thoughts are appreciated!

    graysky wrote:I tried both nvidia from [testing] and from [extra] with no change.  Any idea which log I can look at?  dmesg.log gives nothing; Xorg.log looks just fine.
    I meant nouveau :-)
    You know that nvidia drivers don't use KMS and there will be a couple seconds black screen before you get to the tty, right?

  • Lenovo ThinkPad T61 14,1" LCD problem

    Hi, LCD in my T61 14,1" with nVidia graphics (T61 7664-18G) has failed - I attached an image. External LCD is 100% OK, just internal have this problem (like image in fog, bad readable). I try to replace LCD - problem is still there. What can be the solution? LCD cable, invertor, or it is a nVidia problem (but really just internal LCD problem)? Thanks for help.

Buy another T61/T400 with Intel graphics (because of compatibility and old style keyboard) It is used only for programming, I think that I don't need graphics performance ... Are parts from T61 with nVidia graphics full compatible with parts with Intel graphics (when I will go this way I will have some replacement parts )? Or is it compatible T61 14,1" and T400 in main parts? What will be the best choice? Performance of T61 is sufficient for development of web applications etc.
    If you don't need graphic performance and the T61 performance is enough for you I would buy an Intel T61 planar and replace the Nvidia one. RAM and CPU are compatible, but you will need an integrated heatsink since it's different than the discrete one you have now. I can't comment about driving two monitors, I guess you now use both VGA and DVI ports, right?
    You can also re-use your hard drive or SSD and WLAN card.
    If you go the T400 way (or even T410, it also has a non chiclet keyboard) you will be able to reuse the hard drive/ssd. RAM is not compatible! (DDR3 instead of DDR2)
    Hope this helps!

  • Eclipse crashing

    Hi all. I am currently developing a GUI for my software application.
    I'm using Eclipse 3.1
    It seems that most of the time, when I try to run my GUI, Eclipse will crash, giving me the following message:
    JVM terminated. Exit code = 1
    C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_09\bin\javaw.exe
    -Xms40m
    -Xmx256m
    -jar C:\Program Files\Eclipse\startup.jar
    -os win32
    -ws win32
    -arch x86
    -launcher C:\Program Files\Eclipse\eclipse.exe
    -name Eclipse
    -showsplash 600
    -exitdata c20_10c
    -vm C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_09\bin\javaw.exe
    -vmargs
    -Xms40m
    -Xmx256m
    -jar C:\Program Files\Eclipse\startup.jar
    An error log file is also generated, with the header as follows:
    # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
    # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x74c9dd88, pid=3940, tid=204
    Can anyone enlighten me on what's causing the problem?
    It does not happen all the time, but it's rather frequent, like 70-80%.

    I remember this message from the first time i played around with the vga= kernel option long time ago. There is basically now way around it and I'm not sure if it does produce any problems afterall.
    On my laptop I can only get what my bios allows as resolution (1024x768x32) on a 1280x800 display. Only way to get true native resolution is with nouveau and KMS.
    Tried uvesafb and everything in the wiki but simply can't get any high than 1024x768. Syslinux Hardware Detection Tools also only listes this has the highest possible vga mode and provides the appropriate number for it.
    Let's hope that NVIDA will support KMS in the future. Not only for prettier ttys but also for wayland.
    Also like to use KMSCON in the future as kernel console replacement. Anti-Aliased hardware accelerated FullHD console Hello!
    kmscon-git is already in the AUR.
